What's new

PTI's Tsunami March on 14th August [Mega Thread]

Lol.

I can't believe people are shocked it didn't work.

67 years of this country's politics hasn't told you , that if you want a revolution "pick a common man, united under him, and then march and don't stop till it finishes in bloodshed or massacre".

What Pakistanis do?

"Pick a cricketer who has won the World Cup, pack under him in droves, have no clue what he wants to do in this country but hey he's popular, he played cricket he was great, so he must be a great politician, pack under him.. and face humiliation after humiliation due to his political immaturity".

This is not a cricket field, and there is a time and place to be a hero.

I'll repeat what i once said before.

Either all of us are heroes, or none of us is. There is no one single hero or leader who will guide us.

Pakistanis have their head so stuck up in fantasies they are ready to believe anything that is said by potential heroes of 20 years ago. This is not a Disney Movie, this is not a fantasy land. We don't know if we belong to the Eastern Culture, The Hindu Culture or the Western Culture. We want democracy yet Islam wanted a ruler who was popular choice among the learned scholars. Democracy doesn't work in a country like Pakistan where the common man cannot read or write and 70% of the country is below the poverty line.

Some of you will argue Jinnah did a travesty by dividing Pakistan. Jinnah did what had to be done to save the Muslims. But he didn't count on the landlords and mill owners and bureaucrats to bring Pakistan to its knees. He got a piece of land, but unfortunately he didn't live long enough on it see it change.

67 years have passed by, yet we still don't want to stand in a line, we don't want to clean up our cities, we don't want to follow traffic laws, we want to use our connections to get the job done quicker, we want nepotism so that our niece and nephew can make it into the lucrative job on offer. We want to show our 3 star and 4 star cars, we want to show our beautiful weddings in grand hotels, we want to rasmein of "Mehndi, Mayun, and all that blah" ,

We have our head so much stuck in our *** that we can't even the see the light of day.

Yet we want Imran Khan and we want change.

Screw change. Go change your thoughts. And maybe you will change your country and the world.

So Pakistanis should not pay bill’s for two days then on the third invade parliament house inevitably leading to chaos and bloodshed. This will lead to the military taking over for sure, something that PTI and IK have always wanted to avoid, methinks it’s a hit wicket for sure!!. IK makes no sense whatsoever, obviously prior to the march he did little planning and seems clueless if not in a state of panic:facepalm:.

Imran should do himself a service and end the speech.

I think the Sharif brothers have run out IK!!!:))

Naah....I think he self-destructed. His giant ego let him down once more and he could not see past the flaws of this so called piece de resistance. A tragedy really. Reminds me of Marlon Brando's famous quote from the movie "On the Waterfront". He bought himself a one way ticket to Palooka-ville.

Okay . . . . and what is the mentality of an individual out there in the march?

I can't speak for the individuals.

I respect you bro, but here is one thing.

This is a game of politics and power. When politics is personalised in the raw pursuit of power, a Nawaz v. Imran fight to the end, the only loser is the awaam. The ordinary guy who just wants to go to work and earn enough to sustain his family.

Ideology, ethics and past be damned.

Fair enough, but then the ordinary guy should not complain "government corrupt hai, koyi in ko takht se nhi utaar sakta". If truly everyone is happy with their work and earning enough to sustain their families then they have no right to moan about governments

I think a lot of people, not only PTI supporters will be with IK when it comes to his call for not paying taxes.

Slave like mentality summed up in one post

Not even one single reply to the points raised except name calling. Reminds me a lot of AAP supporters in India. Only reply is, "So people should not complain about corruption, people deserve corrupt leaders, slave mentality, blah, blah, blah.........."

Imran Khan's interview while laying down on stage:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152365553024527

Just a general observation. Khan looks really exhausted and i dont know how much toll has 18 years on the trail as a politician taken on him, the amount of physical road work and physical hard work he has put in as a politician compared to others is unparalleled but it appears to be taking a huge toll on his appearance and health. Sometimes i wonder whether he thinks back at the opportunity cost in terms of personal life and other things he could have done, he could have made a lot of money as a commentator, writer for sure.

Imran Khan in his speech on 17th August 2014 called for nationwide civil disobedience in Pakistan and urged his supporters to stop paying taxes and utility bills in order to bring the Government of Nawaz Sharif onto its knees. As soon as Imran Khan announced the civil disobedience movement, analysts and journalists around the country went crazy and termed it as the biggest blunder of Imran's political career. However, almost all of these intellectuals have failed to see the case that Imran Khan has built for his mass movement. In order to explain the rationale for the movement, one needs to first understand the concept of Odious Debt.

Odious Debt:
In international law, Odious Debt or illegitimate debt is defined as:
National debt incurred by a regime for purposes that do not serve the best interests of the nation. According to International Law, such a debt is not enforceable upon the state and are considered as personal debts of the regime/government that incurred these debts. In some respects, the concept is analogous to the invalidity of contracts signed under coercion.
The concept of Odious Debt was formalized by Alexander Nahum Sack, a Russian Legal Theorist. The basis of Sack's legal formalization were precedents such as the repudiation of Mexican debts incurred by Emperor Maximillian's regime and the denial by the United States of Cuban liability for debts incurred by the Spanish Colonial regime.

According to Sack:
When a despotic/dictatorial regime contracts a debt, not for the needs or in the interests of the state, but rather to strengthen itself, to suppress a popular insurrection, etc, this debt is odious for the people of the entire state. This debt does not bind the nation; it is a debt of the regime, a personal debt contracted by the ruler, and consequently it falls with the demise of the regime. The reason why these odious debts cannot attach to the territory of the state is that they do not fulfil one of the conditions determining the lawfulness of State debts, namely that State debts must be incurred, and the proceeds used, for the needs and in the interests of the State. Odious debts, contracted and utilised for purposes which, to the lenders' knowledge, are contrary to the needs and the interests of the nation, are not binding on the nation – when it succeeds in overthrowing the government that contracted them – unless the debt is within the limits of real advantages that these debts might have afforded. The lenders have committed a hostile act against the people, they cannot expect a nation which has freed itself of a despotic regime to assume these odious debts, which are the personal debts of the ruler.
Ecuador Debt WriteOff in 2008:

In 2008 Rafael Correa, President of the Republic of Ecuador, declared that much of Ecuador's $3.9 billion in foreign debt was illegitimate odious debt that was contracted by corrupt and despotic prior regimes. Ecuador managed to successfully reduce the price of foreign debt letters significantly before it paid off the remaining debt.

Imran Khan's Masterclass Against Nawaz Sharif That The Entire Nation Failed To Understand:

As soon as Imran Khan announced his Civil Disobedience movement the entire opposition and twitterati erupted into a tirade of jokes asking questions such as, how would PTI supporters not pay GST on milk, bread and other groceries. Or that if they wont pay the utility bills the utility services would be disconnected and so on.However, none of these so-called intellectuals were able to understand that what this Civil Disobedience movement is aiming to do is declare Nawaz regime a dictatorial regime and hence render all foreign debts that the regime would contract as unenforceable. As, I have already explained that a debt becomes illegitimate if a) the regime that contracts it is despotic and/or dictatorial and b) it was not spent on the betterment of the nation.

The entire long march is based on the premise that Nawaz Sharif and his party rigged the 2013 General elections and hence the regime is dictatorial and illegitimate. Before announcing the Civil Disobedience movement Imran Khan went into elaborate details of how the Sharif has previously used foreign debt to fill his coffers. What Imran was trying to do here was to establish a case that the foreign debts which this regime would incur would not be spent on the nation but would rather be laundered out of the country to power the business of the Sharif dynasty.

In simpler words Imran has told the entire world and specially the foreign lenders aka (IMF, World Bank and Asian Development Bank) that any loans incurred by the Sharif regime would not be enforceable on the future governments of Pakistan. To make it abundantly clear to our intellectual elite, Imran is telling the foreign lenders that if he ever came to power, he wont pay back the loans that the Sharif regime would borrow. This means that the foreign lenders has only one option left before them and that is to decline all future loans to the Sharif regime. Since, the Sharif regime relies heavily on foreign lending to finance its budget, the move would cripple the government and will bring it down to its knees without any bloodletting on the streets.

I once read a quotation that Brilliance hits a target that no one can hit, Genius hits a target that no one can see.

Imran's masterstroke against Sharif is such an act of genius that the entire nation is unable to see the target that it has hit.

Since, we consider the Sharif regime as illegitimate, all foreign debts that it would incur would be illegitimate odious debt and hence would not be paid by the future Pakistani governments.

Imran Khan himself needs to do a better job and explain this to the foreign lenders that since the Sharifs always loot and plunder these loans for their personal gains, future PTI/Pakistani government would consider the foreign loans received by the Sharif regime as illegitimate. Once this is made abundantly clear to both the national and international audiences, it does not matter an iota if the civil disobedience movement fails to reduce the amount of taxes collected at the National level.

He had enough money already. He is come a long way and the only real honest leader we have. May Allah grant him success despite of his political shortcomings. May Allah expose all the corrupt leaders in all Muslim countries and in Pakistan.

I can't speak for the individuals.

Fair enough, but then the ordinary guy should not complain "government corrupt hai, koyi in ko takht se nhi utaar sakta". If truly everyone is happy with their work and earning enough to sustain their families then they have no right to moan about governments

As far as I've seen, it's only the PTI voters/support base taking such a radical stance.

Such educated people, all Luminites that I know of support and celebrate this move. Yes, drive away your investors, throw away whatever success your stock market has recovered and halt economic development by buying all goods and services to avoid the GST. Let the international powers turn this country into a laughing stock from it's previous "extremist hub" conception, and let it all burn in hell. As long as the Nooras vacate their seats and we become the ruling party.

I need to hear the name of one lawyer, one legal activist, one constitutionalist that is upholding this.

There are MILLIONS of people out there still, who grind themselves everyday in jobs that don't pay well enough, entrepreneurs who're barely break even. That one small segment that does pay taxes in the country and he wants to alienate them?!

I always used to uphold IK because even though I never agreed with his politics, I knew at heart he genuinely loved Pakistan, and his heart was in the right place. But I honestly can't believe he'd stoop to this level.

I've absolutely lost faith in our politics this day.

I'm sorry if I hurt you all. But I'm simply gutted at this move from our supposedly most educated party.

The same courts which let Gullu Butt walk free? To hell with these courts

That stance won't get you anywhere.

Gullu Butt did not "walk free" - he was released on bail.

Fine, lower courts are rife with corruption. But would you say that about the Supreme Court? That one institution whose leader was named as one of the most powerful individuals a few years back? Which does something to maintain and uphold the constitution of the country by staying within the system?

saadibaba - your posts are spot on!

Yes, I read one of those posts. I never heard of civil disobedience in developed western countries. Its impossible to avoid taxes in that part of the world. Or am I wrong?

I still think it's impossible to evade tax in Pakistan with GST, unless you want to stop buying everything altogether!

Pakistan was already a joke of a country in the world's view.

Not necessarily. We were that one country with a huge, overly ambitious army that harboured extremist elements and looked like Iraq/Afg (to the West).

Add Tahrir Square to eh above picture ^ and wait for the whole world to raise hue and cry about our military assets now.

This is why Brother KB was saying democracy can't work. Masha'Allah, he was so right.

IK makes no sense whatsoever, obviously prior to the march he did little planning and seems clueless if not in a state of panic:facepalm:.

Basically he said that he cannot hold his karkoons beyond two days. After that whatever happens govt will be responsible for it.

Its like i hold knife on your friends throat and tell you to give me your money and if you dont then you will be responsible for your friends death.

Govt has shown lot of restraint, they have not used force at all. If PTI does riots and breaks laws then PTI will be responsible for any bloodshed.

Its also funny how people cannot see through this transparent veil put on people's eyes by IK. They want people to not pay federal taxes but they want them to pay their own state taxes. They threatened govt to cut off their power if govt tried to collect utility bills.

Its blackmailing in simple words and clear plan to divide the country. But whatever rattles his wickets man.

I'm beginning to wonder what imran is trying to achieve by saying that he'll cut off electricity by shutting down tarbela dam. Sounds treasonous to me. With age he's losing the plot

I am not the most knowledgable on the topic, so please forgive me, but surely a change / revolution of some sort needs to come in Pakistan? Can we not all agree on that?

Yes, all of this sounds crazy... but in the end all revolutions were somewhat crazy to begin with?

With that being said... I have no idea what IK will do if his deadline passes. The security forces/police/army won't just let him and his minions waltz into the Red Zone will they?

Pakistan doesn't need a revolution, it needs reform by way of passing bills in parliament

Pakistan doesn't need a revolution, it needs reform by way of passing bills in parliament

Which isn't happening though, from my understanding? He filed claims in the courts in regard to the election rigging, and nothing is being done about it, correct?

So how I see it, what else is there left to do?

Indeed - but with this mass tax boycott its going to be hard to run a 'model government' in KPK.

Traders have come out in protest at the sit-ins.

http://www.dawn.com/news/1126048/traders-protest-against-sit-ins

ISLAMABAD: Scores of traders on Sunday held a protest outside the National Press Club (NPC) against the ongoing sit-ins of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

The traders were of the view that the sit-ins had disturbed the financial system of the federal capital.

They appealed to the government to resolve the issue either by resigning or shifting the venues of the protests out of the city.

They also appealed to Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri to consider the problems of the traders and find some other ways to get their demands fulfilled.

Addressing the protesters, Ajmal Baloch, a leader of the Aabpara market traders, said for the last eight days most of the shops in the area remained closed.

“Traders have to pay rent of their shops and meet other expenses but in the absence of any business, they are suffering. Besides, daily-wage workers are also out of work,” he said.

He added that traders who opened their businesses did not have much to do as participants of the sit-ins spent most of their time standing in front of their shops.

“They (protesters) come to the shops and charge their mobile phone batteries. They don’t even bother to get permission of the owners,” he said.

The president of the Super Market Welfare Association, Sarfaraz Mughal, said most of the traders purchased goods from wholesale dealers on credit and paid the dealers after selling them.

“If the shops remained closed, how can the traders pay back their loans. During the sit-ins, most of the participants sleep in the markets, and even in the ATM booths.”

He said traders in other markets were also suffering because they were not getting supplies due to security issues. The interior minister should designate a place for the protesters out of the city,” he said.

Mehboobul Mukarram, a trader in the Melody Market, appealed to the PTI and PAT leadership to consider the problems of the traders and shift their supporters somewhere else.

Talking to Dawn, Sarfraz Mughal said: “It has become impossible for the traders to get supplies of edible items because of security reasons. Even the citizens have stopped coming out of their houses.”

When Nooras and their Ganja head could bounce back from abandoning a march midway and turning back from Gujranwala, then any kind of comeback is possible.

Another big lie. Are you not familiar with the names Arsalan and Iftikhar Ch?

In fact, majority of these judges in high courts and supreme courts have been appointed through supreme judicial council , so most of these guys chosen for these jobs have personal relationship with the former chief justice who almost all parties (except N league) consider politicized in favor of N league.

On the other hand, some people in lower courts may be corrupt as is the case in every field anywhere but on the whole they are impartial because they have been selected on merit via competitive examinations and not because of political affiliations or personal relations with Chief Justice.

If you're questioning political partisanship of SC judges, then let me assure you my friend, that this problem is shared by most if not all of modern countries of this day and age. Even the most developed ones including UK, US, Canada and Australia.

As for the corruption charges, then I'd like to see a source other than the IK/PTI camp suggesting this and I might give it some thought.

So no "lies" there, buddy.

We'll stop power supply from Tarbela if center cuts our electricity

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani has said that the province will not be paying electricity and gas bills along with federal taxes and if utilities are disconnected to the province, power supply from Tarbela to Punjab will be stopped.

Speaking to Dawn, Ghani said provincial taxes will be collected as per routine but the public will not be paying any federal taxes along with electricity and gas bills.

He said the civil disobedience movement was against the corrupt and incompetent federal government and not the government managing the province.

Responding to a question, Ghani said that if the centre dared to disconnect power supply to KP, the province will have the right to stop supply from Tarbela which falls within the provincial jurisdiction.

He added that civil disobedience will be practiced countrywide except in KP.

The minister said the KP government has never been implicated in any case of corruption which is why civil obedience will not be practiced in the province.

Ghani said this is a peaceful way to change the government and we want to register our protest without causing any bloodshed.

The minister said the PTI government was not ignorant of its responsibilities, adding that it was aware of the situation in KP.

“We are dealing with both governance of the province as well as our protests effectively,” Ghani said.

^^^

We won't pay taxes or electricity bills but if you cut our electricity we will cut power supply from Tarbela Dam.

This is just plain thuggery.

PTI resigns from National Assembly.

A bit too late, i reckon.

Doesnt make any difference. They refused to resign from KPK assembly which matters most.

They dont want their own skin in the game.

At least now PTI putting money where the mouth is. Should have announced it yesterday for a bigger impact but oh well.

If he had to go down that road then he should have done it yesterday in his "Big announcement". I guess seasoned politicians like SMQ and Baghi convinced him to do it for damage control. Not that their seats in those assemblies were doing them any good anyways.

SMQ said they are still discussing about resigning from kpk assembly while few hours ago khattak said they wont do it. Its shows the fault lines in the party, If they decide to dissolve the kpk assembly then they risk fragmenting their party.

KPK should ask for separation from Pakistan if Nawaz doesn't resign. Thank god Bangladesh separated before they had the deal with Nawaz.

Fact: NS and IK had the same number of showings in the NA.

So much for upholding the parliamentary channel for reforms.

what was the point of resigning now ?! Should have done it a year back, at least then it would have liked a principled stand and they would have gotten some good political mileage from it.

incredibly stupid!

No. Why would they resign from KP and against what ? They have no concerns over elections in KP but at the same time IK did say they are ready for re elections in KP if opposition have doubts over their mandate.

And the other million of votes that went missing and went towards these corrupt ********?

I don't care what happens but I'll forever respect Kaptaan. If he fails/failed, he did trying. A leader worthy of my blind support.

yes millions also went missing but this take away the hope that millions had.. they wont come again.. he had a province to govern and deliver there and take that forward at next elections.. it has no presence in Balochistan.. Establishment decides who wins there.. it has few seats in Sindh.. but it was just matter of 4more years.. should have pushed for reform.. worked on things... be involved in forming next caretaker.. but no.

what are 4/5years in a nation's history? im not defending or supporting the others but even flippin Lib Dems have lasted 4years with various compromises and they will hammered at next elections.. PTI didnt even let it come to that.

Imran khan saying on Geo that tomorrow he will be leading from the front on the way to red zone.

Imran Khan redeems himself today.

"I will lead Azadi March tomorrow into the Red Zone."

"If the police fires, I will take the first bullet before anyone of you do."

He explained the 'No taxation without representation' principle which won America independence from Britain so should get international airplay with that.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan today defended his last night's call to launch a civil disobedience movement to oust Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from power.

Addressing the participants of Azadi March here, Khan said that civil disobedience movement was a peaceful weapon to win freedom. This movement will bring Nawaz Sharif on his knees, he said.

Khan said the nation has been burdened with heavy taxes. Thanks God, government has not imposed tax on oxygen. “We have exercised all legal options to get justice. It is our democratic right to stage protests.”

The PTI leader said that Nawaz Sharif has established a family rule under the garb of democracy. “We will not our children become slaves of children of Sharif family,” he said.

Khan said he doesn’t want his supporters to indulge in violence. “I would have felt sorry if any of my supporters of police would have been killed in violence,” he stated.

“We have resigned from all assemblies except Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We don’t recognize assemblies which have been formed through rigging.

“I have decided to lead you to enter Red Zone. Police will have to decide whether or not they open fire on Imran Khan.” “I know that Pakistani police will not open fire on Imran Khan. I am warning to Gullu Butts that they will have nowhere to hide if they open fire.”

“We are going to write history. Whatever happens tomorrow will be witnessed by the whole world.”

“You will have to promise that our march will be completely peaceful. Not even a flower pot will be broken,” he said, adding that PTI’s workers would stage a peaceful protest.

“I invite all Pakistanis to accompany me to Parliament House, Prime Minister House,” he added – SAMAA

The supreme court is also corrupt...it is bought. Actually if it was not corrupt, the lower courts will think for a second before doing the nonsense that they do. The last CJ sold the country and dreams of an entire nation. He could have had his name etched in Pakistan's history books but he turned out to be a sellout.

Imran has caught the attention of foreign media right before his march into the critical 'red zone'.

When you get the attention of newspapers like Wallstreet Journal and Bloomberg, you clearly are doing something extra-ordinary.

After all he is more educated than most people on this forum, who are continually making him a laughing stock for his move of civil disobedience since yesterday.
LOL the guy has a Degree in Politics and Economics from the Oxford College.

Funny. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudry too was named as one of the most influential personalities back in the day by TIME magazine, does PTI/kaarkuns recognise that?

He was educated from Oxford and that's why he deserves a blind, senseless fan following?

News flash - so were Benazir and Baby Zardari.

We all have functioning brains here, buddy. If IK can lead an unconstitutional disobedience movement alongside being glorified for his thurggery-threat of closing the tarbela dam because it's his "democratic right", then we are all well within our own personal freedom to question and criticise him over this policy issues.

You can question all you want, but you cannot question the fact that IMF cancelled its visit due to IKs call for civil disobedience.

You cannot question the fact that Ishaq Dar had to go to Dxb on an emergency basis to explain the matters at hand to IMF individuals.

You cannot question the fact that Nawaz Sharif is involved in various money laundering scandals (NAB).
You cannot question the fact that Sharif brothers are involved in the practice of illegally allotting lands to their well-wishers all over Punjab. (NAB).
You cannot question the fact that PML-N has taken more loans in one year than the entire tenure in which PPP was in government.
You cannot question the fraudulent Yellow Cab scheme.
You cannot question the fact that Gullu Butt was released on bail days after being arrested.
You cannot question the fact that the PMLN has ended unemployment (within PMLN) by employing hundreds of PMLN workers in the government in various positions (whether they deserved it or not is another case.)
You cannot question the fact that the Sharif brothers and their family DO NOT PAY TAX.

I really feel sorry for you, its not your fault that you support NS and his 'democratically elected' government. In a democracy where if a case is brought against a poor farmer from Pakistan he has no chance to even fight his case and be hanged. But if a case of MURDER i's brought against the Prime Minister of the nation he will get away with it cool-handedly. Long-live 'your version' of democracy.
