After 27 first-class matches since the revamped Quaid-e-Azam Trophy commenced on 14 September, it has come down to the 10th and final round of the four-day tournament (starting on 2 December) that will determine which two sides will progress to the 27-31 December final at the National Stadium.

With a maximum of 24 points (five batting, three bowling and 16 win) available, the top four sides are separated by 18 points, whereas Sindh and Balochistan will fight out to avoid the wooden spoon at the National Stadium in the six-team competition.

Table-toppers Central Punjab will go into their last round match against fourth-placed Southern Punjab leading by 18 points. This match will be played at the State Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Second-placed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have a 13-point advantage over their third-placed opponents Northern. This match will be played at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, the venue that has produced results in the last two round matches.

This means the top four sides – Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern and Southern Punjab – will be fighting tooth and nail to not only collect maximum points but to also keep their rivals to the minimum to ensure they remain in the hunt for the winner’s purse of PKR10million along with the prestigious silverware.

The management of the four sides will have additional responsibilities from 2-5 December as they will have one eye on the proceeding at the other venue as this may potentially force changes to their game plans and strategies.

So, all in all, the fans, followers and supporters of domestic cricket are up for thrilling and exciting next week in Karachi that is expected to produce some of the very best cricket.

Central Punjab v Southern Punjab

In the last four rounds, Central Punjab and Southern Punjab have both collected 42 points.

When the two sides had met in the tournament opener at the Gaddafi Stadium, the match had ended in a high-scoring draw with Southern Punjab scoring 467 and 107-1, and Central Punjab scoring 473 in their only outing.

As points are awarded after 110 overs of the first innings of each side, both the teams pocketed 11 points apiece from this Punjab derby.

Southern’s Sami Aslam had launched his first-class season with 243 and he is now the leading run-getter with 861 runs. Adnan Akmal, who scored 113 runs in the match, has 554 runs. In contrast, Central’s leading run-scorer to date is Kamran Akmal (750 runs), while Salman Butt is the tournament’s sixth most successful batsman with 662 runs.

Amongst the bowlers, Central’s Zafar Gohar is second on the overall list with 36 wickets, while his team-mate Bilal Asif is nine wickets behind with 27 wickets. For Southern, Mohammad Irfan has been the pick of the bowlers with 22 wickets, while Rahat Ali has 17 wickets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa v Northern

The two sides were involved in an exciting first-round fixture in Abbottabad when Northern escaped with a draw after being forced to follow-on. In reply to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 526 for nine declared, which revolved around Mohammad Rizwan (176) and Ashfaq Ahmed (106), Northern were dismissed for 262 before finishing at 433 for six, thanks to centuries from Asif Ali (114) and Mohammad Nawaz (100).

However, their campaigns failed to take off as they remain the only sides to not win a match in the tournament to date. unfortunately for the top performers your contributions mean nothing as the PCB have a special hat in which they dictate the selection.

Poor, poor dismissal for Zeeshan. Last over before lunch, caught off Fakhar trying to clear mid-on. Out for 61.

If KP really wants most of the overs to bowled by spinners than why did they dropped Khalod Usman and Mohsin?

They added an extra batsman probably because they just need to draw this game to make the final. They'll play for the draw.

Probably a good thing.

They may well need him for the upcoming Tests: at least he bowls a bit quicker (135), is tall and usually bowled better when he had Waqar to think for him.

Northern got off to a positive start in their all-important Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 10th round first-class fixture against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa posting 341 for five at close on day-one of the four-day match being played at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi on Monday.

Zeeshan Malik, Ali Sarfaraz, Faizan Riaz, Hammad Azam and Sarmad Bhatti all scored half-centuries to help their team maintain a healthy run-rate. Northern will be eying full five batting points at the completion of 110 overs of their innings tomorrow, they will attain the points if they reach 400 runs.

A win for third-placed Northern will confirm their spot in the 27-31 December, five-day final of the tournament, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the other hand need to draw the match to secure a final’s berth.

On Monday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s captain Fakhar Zaman won the toss and opted to bowl first, Northern lost their ace batsman Umar Amin for three to left-armer Usman Shinwari.

Zeeshan (61 off 94 balls, 11 fours) added 70 runs for the second wicket with Ali Sarfaraz (50 off 84 balls, eight fours). Zeeshan was dismissed by Fakhar at the stroke of lunch, post-lunch Sarfaraz perished with the team score at 139, off-spinner Sajid Khan accounted for him.

Middle-order batsman Faizan scored a 70-ball 63 with the help of seven fours and one six. The best partnership of the day was between Hammad (76 off 108 balls, seven fours and two sixes) and Sarmad (70 not out, 156 balls, seven fours, one six) the two added 146 runs for the fifth wicket to take their team past the 300-run mark.

Hammad was dismissed by Sajid shortly before close; Sajid was the most successful bowler for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa taking three wickets for 100 runs in 32 overs.

Scores in brief:

Northern 341 for 5, 90 overs (Hammad Azam 76, Sarmad Bhatti 70 not out, Faizan Riaz 63, Zeeshan Malik 61, Ali Sarfaraz 50; Sajid Khan 3-100, Fakhar Zaman 1-39)

Former Pakistan Test opener, Imran Farhat and Akbar-ur-Rehman scored centuries to power Balochistan into a strong position against Sindh on day-one of the four-day tenth round first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the National Stadium on Monday.

Farhat and Rehman came together at the score of 2 for 8 and forged an undefeated third wicket stand of 263 runs by stumps with Balochistan finishing with a total of 271 for 2.

Farhat, who is captaining Balochistan scored the 37th century of his first-class career and continued a rich vein of form as this was his second hundred in his last six matches besides three other big fifties in the tournament.

Akbar got his 12th first-class century as Balochistan overcame a shaky start to reach a formidable position at close.

Farhat had scored 137 from 262 balls with 18 fours while Akbar reached 121 from 260 balls with 14 hits to the boundary.

Balochistan batting first due to an uncontested toss got off to a shaky start when the inform Imran Butt was bowled for just 3 runs by Sohail Khan and at the same total of eight, southpaw, Mir Hamza removed Azeem Ghuman for also three runs.

Farhat an experienced campaigner saw off the new ball and then started to open up with some fine shots against the four-man pace attack of Sohail, Hamza, Tabish Khan and Anwar Ali.

As the innings progressed, Sindh captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed was forced to try out eight bowlers to break the partnership. Left arm spinner, Fawad Alam bowled an economical spell of 13 overs for just 23 runs but the two batsmen went after young Mohsin hitting him for 55 runs in his nine overs.

Farhat completed his century from 163 balls with 15 fours while Rehman reached his hundred from 221 balls with 11 fours.

The two brought up the 200 of their partnership from 320 balls and 251 balls.

Sindh which has gone winless in the tournament so far found the pitch at the National stadium not very responsive to the pace bowlers and the combined experience of Farhat 37 and Rehman 36, also proved overwhelming for them.

Both the teams are playing the match for the fifth and sixth positions on the points table when the round matches end on Thursday as the top four teams, Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern Punjab and Southern Punjab are all in the run to play the final.

Scores in brief:

Balochistan 271 for 2, 90 overs (Imran Farhat 137 not out, Akbar-ur-Rehman 121 not out)

These 2 KPK batsmens are looking like tail enders. Mohammed haris is a much better prospect then Rehan Afridi.

He is bowing 10 to 11 overs in a row

He was bowling with decent pace, don't worry about his pace

We should worry he's bowling around 130k max at the moment plus his age looks close to 40s rather then 30s.

Just bowled a match winning spell

We are not blessed with Shoaib Akthar or Waqar Younis type bowlers atm

Lol Peak Pakistani Delusional fans
If We had "Much better options" we wouldn't have hurried uncooked teenagers to International cricket.

2 of the uncooked teenagers were our best bowlers if you watched the games. The other teenager is a rubbish bowler who only shameless misbah can explain why he was selected. While we saw how rubbish and toothless the 3 senior bowlers were. Maybe open your eyes first, watch then post.

2 of the uncooked teenagers were our best bowlers if you watched the games. The other teenager is a rubbish bowler who only shameless misbah can explain why he was selected. While we saw how rubbish and toothless the 3 senior bowlers were. Maybe open your eyes first, watch then post.

Wow well ducked, We both clearly know what I meant by teenagers and Shaheen didnt debut in Aus in the first place.
The discussion was always about Musa and Naseem, One of them was the worst bowler to ever land in Aus and other one albeit promising only lasted 15 overs.

I will just give you 2 all rounder who are better bowlers then him Amad butt and fahim ashraf. Not even going to start with the bowlers. This guy can't hold a bat, rubbish fielder and an average bowler on top on that looks at least 7 years older then his stated age.

Stats suggest something else

Naseem never lasted 15 overs he was looked after the mgt apparently which i agree..was teh best two spells i have seen from our bowlers...

Back to the Srilankans series..2 pacers are required he should be one along with Shaheen dont care what else anybody says

Ducked? Or you can't answer. Read again your previous post. You said "under cooked teenagers" last time i checked shaheen was a teenager so be specific next time.

As again i stated watch cricket then post as you are just digging holes for yourself, Naseem bowled 20 over not 15. Secondly in the final spell supposedly only lasting 15 overs. he was bowling at an avergae of around 143 kph where he bowled 4 overs for 3 runs including Warner's wicket and bowling to Steve smith over 145 kph supposedly unfit and not lasting longer. So there goes your other theory. Let's not forget Saj stated he was fully fit but was dropped for Musa by genius misbah and azhar. Read again what i said about Musa.

Now please enlighten us the miracles of the well established, cooked seniors performances. Since youngsters i mean "under cooked youngsters what did we expect". Shaheen shah and naseem averged 40. While the cooked seniors of Imran, Yasir, Abbas averaged 115, But yes lets blame the under cooked teenagers.
