Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019/20 | Round 9 | November 25-28, 2019 | Matches Thread

Bowlers dominated day three of the ninth round four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture between Balochistan and Northern at the UBL stadium as Balochistan were 189 for eight in their second innings.

Thirteen wickets fell on Wednesday as Northern, continuing their first innings, were skittled out for 342 after adding only 45 runs to their overnight score before Nauman Ali and Waqas Ahmed shared Balochistan’s seven out of eight wickets.

In the first session of the day, Balochistan's paceman Taj Wali ripped through the Northern's batting line-up to claim his 15th five-wicket haul in first class cricket.

The left-arm medium-fast took three more wickets on day three to return six wickets for 89 runs in 20.2 overs.

Sarmad Bhatti and Jamal Anwar added three and 32 runs, respectively, to their overnight scores.

Sarmad made 86 off 176, hitting nine fours and a six, while Jamal cracked 11 fours in his 93 from 120 balls.

With a deficit of 42 runs, Balochistan's openers failed to provide the desired beginning as both openers Imran Butt (28) and Azeem Ghumman (eight) were back in the dressing room by Lunch.

Akbar-ur-Rehman and skipper Imran Farhat consolidated the innings to escort Balochistan to 113 at Tea.

The pair stitched an 84-run partnership for the third wicket with Akbar scoring a 114-ball 41 and Imran recording his 70th first-class half-century with a 114-ball 55.

In the final session of the day, Northern's bowlers came into the act, snapping up quick wickets to squeeze Balochistan.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Bismillah Khan put up resistance with 32 not out from 41 balls (4x4s).

Balochistan are 147 runs ahead and will be relying on Bismillah – who is joined by Mohammad Asghar (three) – to help them post a decent target.

Scores in brief

Balochistan 300 all-out, 90.2 overs (Imran Butt 124, Umar Gul 51, Imran Farhat 32; Sadaf Hussain 4-75, Nauman Ali 3-80) and 189-8, 65 overs (Imran Farhat 55, Akbar-ur-Rehman 41, Bismillah Khan 32 not out; Nauman Ali 4-62, Waqas Ahmed 3-54)

Northern 342 all-out, 86.2 overs (Jamal Anwar 93, Sarmad Bhatti 86, Umar Amin 69; Taj Wali 6-89, Umar Gul 2-61)

the idiots in balochistan management thinks they shld rest Ammad ....

potential to play for pak and these junior gutter men not playing him ... such shame

Good to see right handed openers performing.

Imran Butt and Sahibzada Farhan should both be considered for the SL Tests in December.

Agree with Imran, but Zeeshan Malik and Sami Aslam have so far killed it with their performances with the bat. Farhan's been ok but he needs to score heavy. I'd say for the SL tests Imran, Zeeshan, and Sami should be considered.

Possibly, because Misbah cares nothing about building the long-term foundation of a team by ensuring that 8-9 of the starting eleven are aged 21-30.

But it would be a dumb move.

The only goal right now is Test championship. So he should be in the team already.

Farhan is doing ok statistically, but he will most likely be troubled by any decent international bowler, technique not good enough.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa handed Central Punjab their first defeat of the season as they recorded a 211-run win in the ninth round of the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at NBP Stadium.

Central Punjab, chasing 325, were bowled out for 113 in the afternoon session on the last day of the match.

Mohammad Saad and Umar Akmal, who resumed their innings on the overnight scores of one and 0, showed resistance in the earlier part of the morning session, adding 45 runs for the fifth-wicket.

But, Central Punjab began losing wickets, one after another, after drinks and were 89 for seven at Lunch.

Umar top scored with 43 from 76 balls, hitting seven fours, while Saad made 12 from 50 balls.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa dismissed the remaining three wickets in the earlier half of the second session with leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin doing most of the damage with three for 34.

Middle-order batsman Usman Salahuddin was not out on 29 from 118 balls. He hit two fours and a six.

That Central Punjab found themselves in a precarious situation at the start of the day’s play was due to Usman Shinwari’s fiery spell yesterday in which he took three wickets for two runs in 2.2 overs.

This is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s second consecutive win in the tournament.

Sami Aslam seems to have lost form in the last couple of games :( just as it looked like he was on the verge of a Pakistan recall

Sohail Tanvir has been reprimanded for a Level 1 offence which relates to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match in Northern’s ninth round four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture against Balochistan at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.

The incident occurred after the conclusion of the 41st over of Balochistan’s second innings when Sohail kicked the ball out of frustration for being unable to take a wicket.

The Northern bowler was charged by on-field umpires Qaiser Waheed and Imran Jawed for the violation of Article 2.2 of the PCB’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Sohail pleaded guilty and was reprimanded by match referee Ahmer Saeed.

I was totally against likes of Omair Bin Yousuf, Haider Ali and Saud Shakeel playing rubbish emerging cup, they missed three FC matches because of it. Most of the oldies are in top 10 run getter because of it. India was smart to select fringe players

Quaid e Azam trophy over other tournaments, youngsters need to be in top 10 scorers to push for the selection.

Karachi, 28 November 2019:

Abdul Rehman Muzammil stroked his way to a century as the four-day ninth round first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match between Southern Punjab and Sindh ended in a draw at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Muzammil scored an undefeated 103 runs which came off 209 balls with fourteen fours and two sixes.

As soon as the right-hander reached his hundred, the umpires called stumps with no result in sight as Southern Punjab were 236 for five in 75.4 overs.

He added 138 runs for the fourth-wicket with Sohaib Maqsood (76 off 107).

When Southern Punjab started their second innings this morning, all-rounder Anwar Ali, who had taken five for 75 in the first innings, dismissed Sami Aslam (four) and Zeeshan Ashraf (three).

Muzammil and Sohaib then played freely and smartly rotating the strike to wear down the bowlers on a flat track.

Sohaib in particular didn’t hold back his shots as he used his feet regularly against spinners, dispatching them for boundaries.

He struck 11 fours and three sixes in his 107-ball 76 before getting out to Fawad Alam.

After Tea, Southern Punjab lost Adnan Akmal for one run when he was bowled by Tabish Khan.

The drawn match saw five centuries from both teams with Fawad Alam scoring 211 and Sarfaraz 131 for Sindh while Zeeshan Ashraf, Adnan Akmal and Muzammil were the century-makers for Southern.

Fourth-ranked Southern Punjab play table-toppers Central Punjab at the State Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Sindh and Balochistan - ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, and out of contention for the final - take on each other at the National Stadium.

Scores in brief:

Southern Punjab 517-9d, 133.3 overs (Zeeshan Ashraf 133, Adnan Akmal 107 not out, Sohaib Maqsood 81, Abdul Rehman Muzammil 49, Bilawal Bhatti 45, Umaid Asif 37; Anwar Ali 5-75, Hassan Khan 2-110) and 236-5, 75.4 overs (Abdul Rehman Muzammil 103, Sohaib Maqsood 76, Umar Siddiq 35; Anwar Ali 2-28)

Sindh 486 all-out, 132 overs (Fawad Alam 211, Sarfaraz Ahmed 131, Saad Ali 60, Anwar Ali 28; Bilawal Bhatti 4-82, Zia ul Haq 3-105, Mohammad Irfan 2-129)

Result: Match drawn

Top 4 still in with a chance... Southern Punjab need a big win vs Central Punjab to stand a chance (very unlikely), while Northern most likely can get through with a straightforward win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

i wish the youtube streaming was not already decided...Northern v Khyber will be a cracker for stakes to reach the final..surely that needs to be streamed
