Question to meat eaters: Why do you do it?

Lol...its not vegetable. Not sure if its meat though.

BTW I eat chicken and lamb. Love both of them. But never tasted beef or pork :moyo

That's what animals are here for. If God didn't want us eating them he wouldn't have made them so tasty.

What if rapists say the same to justify a rape?

I am sorry, but that is a SICK excuse. Animals exist to get tortured and mercilessly murdered by us humans? Wow, i don't need such Gods.

What an illogical argument,If god didn't war why would he let us make weapons?Lets kill one another?

I actually don't know how someone can NOT eat meat.

How could you say no to a big juicy dry aged ribeye steak or a slow cooked tender Dumba (Fat-tailed Sheep) Karai? Actually, just thinking about it makes me want to go have it!

There is no substitute for meat.

How could a man not rape a voluptuous woman with juicy lips and curvacious figure. Wow, just thinking of her makes me feel all so horny.

Just because you enjoy something doesn't mean its right.

Pigs can be as intelligent and loyal as dogs ,stop degrading the animal just because of some bias.

Absurd. How can the two things be compared? There's nothing wrong with eating meat.

However, if you're trying to be ethical and are talking about how we hurt the animals and what not. Then, I've got news for you son

I am the only 1 in my family who eats non-vegetarian food

It started way back in 2004 at the age of 17 when I went to Lucknow and I tried out the kebabs in Lucknow. Since then, I got addicted to non-vegetarian food :D Eat chicken about once a week outside and sometimes eat chicken momos at the chat-wala near my house

I would suggest people to make a balance. Don't eat too much of meat and don't be a pure vegetarian. Both are not good. Chicken & Fish give us some vitamins & minerals which u will miss out in vegetarian food. Also, chicken & fish have higher protien content than any vegetarian product

Stop eating vegetables as well

First there is no reputable study yet that proves plants have a central nervous system and they feel pain, second a vegetarian can farm , pluck and eat the vegetables, fruits ,can a meat eater himself cut the meat ?

And it's time Indians started to eat more meat if we want to excel in sports. 1 of the biggest reasons why we fail at most sports is due to this vegetarian culture existing in India. More Indians need to be encouraged to eat meat

Countries with less than 5 million populations get gold medals after gold medals in olympics, whereas India with this vegetarian cuture, struggles to get olympic medals :( If more Indians ate meat, we will have more athletic people and bag more olympic medals

What difference does it make who cuts the meat?

Are you telling me all the vegetables you consume are farmed and plucked by yourself?

Personally i have no issue with meat eaters ,my parents eat them and my dad is into hotel business as well where meat(Chicken and Mutton) are major sellers.Having said that its obviously better to have organic meat where the animals are atleast kept in humane conditions and not just giving corn to eat but fed properly.

I wouldn't have an issue with farming and yes i do grow certain things myself not much but (tomatoes, green chillies, aloe vera) and also wouldn't have an issue with plucking fruits from trees.

In that context Middle East countries or Pakistan should have a higher gold medal tally because of meat being consumed regularly not the case sir.

Not having an issue is one thing but actually doing it is another.

The debate about whether meat should be ethically farmed is again a different topic altogether.

The question was regarding consuming meat and your answer, it appears, is that you're okay with it as long as it is farmed ethically.

If it takes mass murder and extreme torture of innocent animals to win some medals, then nah mate, i'm ok with us just being an educated society that sends rockets to Mars and leads the world's greatest tech companies. Surely people wouldn't need to eat meat to be great doctors and engineers?

Also there is no science behind vegan folks not being great athletes. There have been many great vegan bodybuilders and athletes. and surely in coming years, better ways will be deveoped to derive protein rich diet without torturing animals.

Yes lesser of the two things i don't agree on.

It's about cultural upbringing too it's easier for a Hindu living in a part of India where most people are veggie. And vegetarianism is promoted as a lifestyle and is a cultural norm to stick to being a veggie. Most other societies where meat eating is just a part of the culture it's harder to be veg. It's like in Europe and the u.s pork is a huge part of the diet. E.g always see white people dying over how amazing bacon is etc. But when u are brought up in a Muslim household you are always taught about how pig is dirty unclean etc don't eat it. So u have negative connotations about pig drilled into you. And don't understand how these guys can love pig so much. Like am not religious at all but when I smell pig being cooked it makes me almost vomit.

My brother tried pork and beef for the first time in his life when he went to the US and he told that pork is by far the best meat in the world. Though I couldn't bring myself to eat either pork or beef.

In that context Middle East countries or Pakistan should have a higher gold medal tally because of meat being consumed regularly not the case sir.

We also need to take into consideration the population size. India has a total of 26 medals in the Summer Olympics. Pakistan has 10. India averages 0.02 Medals/million people Pakistan averages 0.05 medals/million people.

Which means if he had a similar population size as you did, or vice versa we would have had more medals than you.

It's not just animals. Even plants have feelings too, but vegetarians kill plants and eat them. Vegetarians, kill mosquitoes and insects at night to sleep properly. Even the insects have feelings too. And then vegetarians eat a lot of bacteria as well when eating curd and other milk products. Too much of hypocrisy

U eat what u want to eat and let others what they want to eat. It's as simple as that. U can enjoy ur paneer tikka and let us have our tandoori chicken

Sushil Kumar from India a strict vegetarian has two individual medals for India in Olympics(2008,2012) apparently beating all the meat eaters of India? This is speaking internally about India and meat eaters and keeping Pakistan out of it.

First bacteria don't have a central nervous system as such to feel pain second a mosquito tries to hurt you whereas a cow or Hen wouldn't try and hurt a human false comparison.

But bacon is bad for your health, recent study by WHO indicates consumption of bacon may cause cancer. So stay away from them :moyo

Abnormalities occur everywhere.

I am a former meat-eater, not the case now. As humanity evolves, I hope we will find a better substitute to these animal killings.

Maybe we can find a way of eating their meat without killing them.

I was thinking something along the lines of cryogenically freezing the animals brain and then putting it inside of another animal that died naturally. However, I find goat brain to be delicacy so that couldn't work.

Thanks, but the bacon they are mentioning there has more to do with processed meat than pig itself.Any processed meat could be bad even Chicken Sausages.

That is true, but there are studies which indicate that over consumption of red meat is a risk factor for many diseases like pancreatic cancer, colon ca., Diabetes, kidney disease, etc., even if it may not have a causal phenomenon. Personally, sea food is the best meat with respect to nutrition imo.

Haha... this reminds of a Bollywood scene.

But realistically, I hope we reach a point where we can produce different kind of meat in laboratories. It will happen eventually, just a matter of time.

The way you look at pig is exactly how veggies look at any meat . Fish stinks a lot more than any other meat , infact most meat dont smell good when cooking .
On the taste part , trust me there is no comparison , I love beef but Pork is at another level .

for pork lovers here ( I know only few ) , if you visit Bali ever . Do go to this restaurant called "naughty nuri's" and have their Pork ribs .

Yeah sea food is the best with health perspective . I love South East Asian food , a perfect balance of meat , greens which are mostly fiber and lost of fresh sea food . No wonder they are so fit .

Not sure how is that an anomaly considering not a single Indian meat eater has two individual medals but a vegetarian has.

You just answered your own question. In Statistics, this would be referred to as an outlier and would not be taken into consideration.

Since they have no central nervous systems, nerve endings, or brains, there is no reason to believe that plants feel pain. If you want to be responsible for the least number of deaths possible, a vegetarian diet is still preferable to a meat-based one, since the vast majority of grains and legumes raised today are used as feed for cattle. By eating vegetables directly, you save many more plants’ lives than you would if you ate animals such as cows, who must consume 16 pounds of vegetation in order to produce 1 pound of flesh.

Just came here to congratulate all those who quit eating meat as a direct or indirect result of this thread. Well done and feel proud.

Its been 8-9 months now for me without meat and i can say i have never felt better. My productivity has increased, i feel more positive and spiritual than ever before, my girlfriends are happier than ever, even my parents feel proud of me. Quitting meat is perhaps the single greatest decision i have taken in life.

Good for you. I can totally get why people become vegetarian and am sure there are plenty of health benefits for it too. Although in my own view a diet based on mostly veg with some meat now and then is even more beneficial. Of course those who are vegetarian on moral grounds don't need to explain their diet for health or science reasons so that is irrelevant.

For my part as a non-practising hypocrite Muslim, in the Quran, Allah has specifically said that for Muslims to eat certain meats is permissible, that's good enough for me. But I certainly respect the decision for vegetarians not to do so for whatever reason.

Happy munching veggie bros.

Thanks. I'm having my diet based mostly on non veg food (with carbs coming from rotis/ parathas etc) here in UAE. Been a couple of months.

Do some research on the Atkins Diet. A lot of people used that to lose weight fast as it is protein based and allows you to eat lots of meat and fats, but cut out starchy carbohydrates. Short term it works, but long term I heard there could be health problems.

How is it for a person who has had vege for most of his/her life to have non veg food, I've heard its fairly traumatic..

Thanks. Will read about it.

It is tough I reckon. Although in my case, I have been very fond of non veg (all kinds - chicken, lamb, beef, pork, sea food etc.) since I was a kid, but a diet totally based on non veg is something that I am having for the first time.

Does a diet based on mostly non veg food have any disadvantages?

Diet high in red meat content has a few harmful effects to your body. Cut down on red meat (if you're consuming too much) and include more white meat (chicken) and sea food (if it's available there) in your diet. Also add dietary fibers to your diet (green veggies/beans) as they will reduce the atherosclerosis risk and also lower the risk of colon cancer. Meat for 3-4 days a week mixed with veggies is okay imo.

Thanks for the advice guys. I consume very less red meat though. It's mostly chicken. But yeah will need to add more veggies. :nehra

It depends what you mean by progress. There has been a lot of progress in science and literature, but greed and violence is still as intrinsic to human nature as eating meat was 1000BC.

Sadly.

I was gonna suggest continuous wars and other troubles as an excuse for not having spent enough time on introspecting in terms of fair animal treatment but then i realized the well off nations of the world have actually been the worst offenders of animal abuse.

SO i amj still wondering why its been like this and whether my dream is just a fairy wish or we are actually gonna get to a point humanity as a whole will just stand up and say guys lets just stop the abuse and cruelty. A lot of what i suggest sounds naive i know but i believe in something and i am certainly not aqlone. The voice in favour of fair animal treatment is now stronger than ever and is spread globally.

This thread is a bit of a joke.

Most Indian veggies and daalkhors are only because of their religion and no other reason.

The rest is all masala to make themselves feel better and project an image that they are being morally upright by not having meat. If religion wasn't restricting them most would dig into the first steak at the first opportunity. ( Many do anyway. I know a bunch Indians who were veggies in India and have become total meatheads after tasting the freedom of getting out of India and smelling the awesome meat dishes.)

I don't understand why Indian Hindus feel ashamed to accept that the reason they don't eat beef is because their religion prohibits them to. The reasons they give is all masala which would be better used on Karahi Gosht.

Most Muslims atleast are open in admitting that they don't eat pork due to religious restrictions. Why are so many Indian Hindus so defensive in this sense?

Farmers are being screwed over, so are sweat shop labourers and child labourers. If i think about everyone, my mind will go crazy. So i try not to think too much about the people that west is screwing over. If I don't care about the people, why would i care about animals ? Chicken, Beef, Mutton and Pork all tastes great. Eating meat is like tasting heaven on earth. Yum yum. Wings and Beer every weekend :akhtar

Massive generalization Hinduism doesn't say don't eat meat except beef.My family consumes it regularly and "vegan-ism" mostly pushed on by PETA activists not the Indians.

Vegetables are also living beings ... so you should also care about them

Bhai Dadri incident has nothing to do with this. I quit eating meat in February this year after i decided enough cruelty from my side. I am already ashamed of the murders i have been indirectly responsible for. Let God, if at all there is one, judge me for my sins, but from now on i will definitly make sure i don't repeat this. Animal lives deserve respect.

Atkins isn't really protein-based. Excess protein can knock you out of ketosis. Some protein is unavoidable on these ketogenic/low-carb diets, but they tend to focus on fats.
