Inclusion of Ifti chacha and Vince strengthen QG a lot. Nawaz and Naseem Shah are greatly improved cricketers. Hasnain is also decent. So QG will definitely do better than last year, but still I don't see them as title contenders.

This team is looking a serious threat. Besides continuing with Sarfi and bringing in past his best Afridi. This team still needs a few good additions but so far, pretty good.

I am still surprised that James Vince has never really broken his way into top level international cricket on a consistent basis, he’s a really talented player.

Some good Intl. players brought. Naveen-ul-Haq is a solid player in T20s, Ben Duckett has improved since his stint with Islamabad United. James Vince, Jason Roy and James Faulkner are good experience additions. With Itfi, Nawaz and young bowling attack, the experience players will have to do there part. Sarfi, Lala and Akmal are awful and at the ends of there career. Relying on them is potentially going to cost Quetta Gladiators the title.

Favourites to win it, imo.

An improvement from last year.

Faulkner is a good signing and of course Roy at the top of the order is a huge boost.

Faulkner, Nawaz and Afridi will be fine with the ball.

The weak part looks to be the pace bowling which can either be brilliant or terrible on any given day.

Well all I have left is Quetta

1. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (E)
2. Jason Roy (F)
3. James Vince (F)
4. Iftikhar Ahmed

I think it would be a good idea to get rid of sarfi from the line-up as his form is nothing short of awful and better to get rid. Give Ben Duckett the gloves despite not keeping for some time. I know this line-up wouldn't come to fruition but I would love to see this line-up.

So Naveen-ul-Haq has opted to not play in PSL.

Naveen was picked by Gladiators in Silver Category during PSL 7 draft on December 12.

Gladiators will now look to pick Naveen's replacement in the mini draft expected to take place on January 7.

It will be no problem finding a foreign or local player to replace Naveen.I hope an emerging pacer gets the chance.

Today's additional players and partial replacements for Quetta Gladiators:

In supplementary round: Ghulam Mudassar (Emerging)

In replacement round: Luke Wood, Will Smeed and Ali Imran (all Silver), Shimron Hetmyer (Diamond)

Ali Imran is an excellent pick. SR of 140 in T20 career so far. He has an opportunity to show what he can do since Quetta have limited opening options outside of Jason Roy.

I think they may go with vince Inn the opening slot but I do hope Imran is given a go

PSL 7 Preview : Quetta Gladiators – Can the Lala effect be enough to win another title?

Many thanks to Titan24 for this write up.

Since winning the tournament in 2019 Quetta Gladiators have had a pretty tough time in PSL. Questionable emerging picks for T20 format, bad combinations, player management and availability, as well as backups - all left a lot to be desired.

Lead by former Pakistan national team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and coached by another former Pakistan captain and keeper Moin Khan Quetta have had its fair share of ups and downs during the last 6 editions.

On paper they have put up a decent squad. They will also have the power of Lala – Shahid Afridi – at their disposal as well. However, once again player availability in few matches might come back to disturb the flow a bit.

At the same time, it looks like the backups this time around are of better quality keeping in mind the combination they had last year. Other than that, Sarfaraz’s captaincy which has not been up to the usual standards set by himself in the last couple of years will again be tested and a lot will depend upon that.

Quetta has almost everything in the squad one can think of from batsmen, power, all-rounders, spinners of every type to both left and right arm pace but, a slight blemish might be lack of experience/leadership in bowling to back young express pacers in Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah.

Sohail Tanvir is in his twilight years and his performances in the last year or so seem to show that. On the other hand James Faulkner who was sensational for Lahore Qalandars on slow surfaces of UAE might not find it as easy on the Pakistani surfaces and has never showed much spark with regards to being a leader of the bowling group.

Key Players: Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Jason Roy, James Vince, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah

Strengths: All basis and varieties covered

Weakness: Not much experience/leadership in the bowling group.

Full Squad:

James Vince, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Jason Roy, James Faulkner, Umar Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Ben Duckett, Khurram Shehzad, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Muhammad Ashar Qureshi, Noor Ahmad, Ahsan Ali, Luke Wood

Supplementary round: Ghulam Mudassar, Dan Lawrence

Partial replacements: Will Smeed, Ali Imran, Shimron Hetmyer

People are sleeping on Quetta, their team looks the most balanced team in the PSL.

The most balanced team for me too.

Let’s see how they fare after last years debacle.

Solid batters they have included this time to support Sarfraz.

Tanvir can be useful guiding and mentoring the young fast bowlers.
His variations are still in the us format.

Didn't know Afridi was still playing!

Must be kissing 50 by now.

Who's the emerging pick?

James Faulkner is out of quarantine and will join Quetta Gladiators in the practice session tonight.

Will Smeed, Dan Lawrence, Ben Duckett are already with the squad while Luke Wood will be joining soon.

Jason Roy, James Vince to join the team right after completion of the England - West Indies series while Noor Ahmad will be with the franchise after Afghanistan’s ICC U19 World Cup campaign.

Vince and Roy will not be available for initial 2-4 games I believe as their WI tour will be ending on Jan 31st and might have to quarantine for few days (I think 3 but, not sure).

Hassan Khan comes in as partial replacement for Shahid Afridi who is under isolation after testing positive for COVID-19

Hassan was part of the list of 15 players who are part of the Managed Event Environment.

Batting order looks messed up.

Ifthi coming in at 6 is ludicrous and a waste.

Meanwhile, Jason Roy and James Vince will be joining the team in early hours of Wednesday.

Noor Ahmad will be joining us after Afghanistan’s ICC U19 World Cup campaign.

Now that Jason Roy and Vince will either play next game or the one after they will be much stronger.

Wow I didn't know Vince and Roy both were selected by Quetta.

Now this is a very dangerous batting lineup.

James Vince will be available for selection tonight because he had Covid last month and the three-day isolation rule doesn’t apply to him.
Jason Roy will only be available after completing his three-day quarantine.

Quetta Gladiators mentor Sir Vivian Richards will be with be attending the match tonight and Shahid Afridi will be available for selection as well.

Can't believe they dropped smeed. They have to let go of lala also. Maybe even .are iftikhar captain. Safran wasnt even his normal self today looked resigned throughout.

hows Shimron Hetmyer ? he hasn't played, cricinfo states he came to the psl? hope its not his attitude which is causing problems,

he's super talented

Jason Roy had his first training session with Quetta Gladiators today and he will be available for selection tomorrow against Lahore Qalandars.

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Quetta Gladiators have announced that they will be retaining Will Smeed and will be included in the squad as Dan Lawrence's replacement.

Smeed was initially brought into the team as a replacement to James Vince. However, his arrival means that Smeed will now be filling in for another absentee instead.

Jason Roy's inclusion has changed the team dynamics. Now they not only bat deep but with enough firepower that they can be backed to chase big totals.

It is the need of the hour, for the sake of the tournament and competition, that some of the less fancied teams win matches and cause bit of a change in the standings. Jason Roy`s inclusion is a much required addition to the Quetta team, although as I see their team in terms of batting firepower, they might just continue to stay a one-man army, as it was almost the case tonight. What a scintillating knock that was by him. Wow! The shot with which he brought up his century was really admirable. The innings of the tournament, easily.

I totally agree, The way he brought up the 100 is hallmark of a true big player for me.

So many batters would have bowed down to the numbers pressure but hit it so truly.

It shows that QG's success has nothing to do with Sarfaraz and his captaincy and more or less because of the players he had at his disposal in the previous seasons i.e. Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, Jason Roy, Russow, Narine e.t.c.

Roy and Vince give them a different dimension and make them capable of hitting over 200 as they showed today.

Without these 2 they are a poor side.

Sarfaraz is a non entity in the team now. Basically a ghost captain, there are a lot of foreigners and Afridi in the team meaning he will not be able to shout and scream at his players. In the presence of many aggressive batsmen, his batting just might not be needed in the line up.

Yes they are still carrying a few passengers in the squad, but who knows with the class of Vince and Roy, those passengers might get hidden away and not be needed as much.

It is one thing to bring up one´s century with a six but a whole thing another to bring it up with the shot that he did. An absolute thunderous heave to the leg side, taking the ball from quite a bit of way from the off-side. A special innings all the way!

I think now they have abit of stability Nawaz and Iftikhar will have less pressure and finish games.

Quetta Gladiators - Sarfaraz Ahmed: “Our sensational victory against Lahore Qalandars has given us renewed hope and we are determined to carry on in the same vein in Lahore. Jason Roy made a memorable contribution for us and his presence at the top of the order has given us great firepower that I am sure will come in handy for us in Lahore.

“We are really looking forward to the Lahore-leg and I am sure the cricket fans in Lahore are super excited to see us and the other teams in action from Thursday.

“The Gladiators are known for fighting hard and despite some poor performances in the previous edition and the Karachi-leg, I firmly believe that we have the team strength and some incredibly skilled and experienced cricketers who can take us to the play-offs and beyond this season.

“I am sure that the Gladiators would have a big fan following in Lahore and would support quality cricket from all six teams. I also want to thank Karachi fans who came out in big numbers despite the covid related challenges and created a wonderful atmosphere at the National Stadium especially during our chase against Qalandars on Monday.”

"The removal of Mohammad Hasnain after his action was deemed illegal has had an effect on our bowling attack as Naseem Shah and he were an important part of our pace battery but the other bowlers have worked hard to cover Hasnain's loss"

Quetta pace bowling look very thin. Inexperienced Naseem been brilliant so far. But surprised they went with Faulkner in their draft he finished and his bowling too predictable. Death bowling is poor they need Naseem bowling their but he too inexperienced so might leak runs. Others are so poor. They could have picked wiser. Then they have Afridi who is finished too. Think their bowling will cost them unless Naseem and someone else has a great remainder of PSL

Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) after suffering navicular bone undisplaced fracture.

==

Big blow for him and QG

The news came late otherwise they could have traded for Zafar gohar. Not sure who else is in the psl reserves to pick from.

Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad joined the team for practice session and will be available for selection from next match.

Some squad updates:

Left-arm pacer Mohammad Irfan, will replace Mohammad Hasnain for the remainder of the tournament, due to the latter being banned from bowling.

Will Smeed will slip into the Silver Category as Ben Duckett’s replacement. Duckett is now unavailable due to personal reasons.

Luke Wood is out of the tournament due to an injury and will be travelling back soon.

I know they've had bad luck regarding injuries and Hasnain.

But if you keep on relying on just 2 or 3 players then you are asking for trouble.

Quetta Gladiators batsman Ahsan Ali suffered a thumb injury against Lahore Qalandars and missed the match against Peshawar Zalmi.
However, he will be available for selection in Quetta Gladiators next match.

Sarfaraz Ahmed should be dumped from the side
Due to his batting they are losing the games.
In captaincy he has been awful as usual.

Quetta Gladiators now need to thrash Karachi Kings in their final match and hope Islamabad United lose heavily in their final 2 group matches.
