Apparently he has decided not to play todays match because he doesn’t want to take the knee as directed by the South African cricket board.

Why are they dictating people to do political actions?

JOHANNESBURG: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Board on Monday evening unanimously agreed to issue a directive requiring all Proteas players to adopt a consistent and united stance against racism by “taking the knee” prior to the start of their remaining World Cup matches.

Concerns were raised that the different postures taken by team members in support of the BLM initiative created an unintended perception of disparity or lack of support for the initiative.

After considering all relevant issues, including the position of the players, the Board felt that it was imperative for the team to be seen taking a united and consistent stand against racism, especially given SA’s history.

Several other teams at the World Cup have adopted a consistent stance against the issue, and the Board felt it is time for all SA players to do the same.

“Taking the knee” is the global gesture against racism adopted by sportspeople across sporting codes because they recognise the power sport has to bring people together.

CSA Board Chairperson, Lawson Naidoo said: “A commitment to overcoming racism is the glue that should unite, bind and strengthen us. Race should not be manipulated to amplify our weaknesses. Diversity can and should find expression in many facets of our daily lives, but not when it comes to taking a stand against racism.”

“South Africans were recently joined by people across the world in celebrating the 90th birthday of our revered Archbishop Desmond Tutu. What better tribute from the Proteas to an icon of the struggle for freedom in South Africa than to demonstrate we are working to fulfil his vision of a united South Africa,” he says.

Cricket is the second most watched sport globally and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, being held in the UAE and Oman, is the ideal platform for the Proteas to highlight the national resolve to heal the divisions of the past.

The CSA Board is actively promoting a holistic transformation strategy that embraces the diversity with which SA has been blessed.

CSA believes success both on the field and beyond the boundary will be guaranteed if all South Africans stand united to build a new innings based on the pillars of inclusivity, access and excellence.

He did the right thing. It is a meaningless act and he shouldn’t be forced into it.

This BLM propaganda is getting stale now.

South African cricket is adamant on destroying itself due to its stubborn approach in everything.

No one should be forced to take the knee. Not everyone has had pleasant experiences when it comes to racial discrimination in life. Well done to QDQ actually

This could be the end of his international career and I am sure he won’t care. He will make plenty of money in franchise cricket.

CSA is racist against white players anyway, they are always looking for an excuse to get rid of a top white player for some rubbish black player.

What did I tell you, he will be retiring and not looking back very soon

Is that even a reason for not playing him? Ridiculous stuff!

Anyways, he is not gonna win anything for SA in ICC tournament, should rather focus on getting retained by Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians are also a better team in T20s under pressure compared to South Africa.

What did I tell you, he will be retiring and not looking back very soon

You did not tell us that he will retire because of CSA politics. You told us that he will retire because he is not interested in cricket anymore.

That is not the case. His best years are still ahead of him, but if CSA is not going to give respect to one of their greatest players of the last decade, he has no reason to play for them.

*He is not interested in International cricket anymore*

This serves him the perfect excuse to walk away and not be criticised for the rest of his life

BLM is a communist and racist movement trying to segregrate instead of unite people.

Naive and ignorant people have fallen for this racist movement because you have the sold out media and SOLD OUT celeberties promoting **.

As Mamoon posted above CSA is racist towards white people.
So is the BLM movement.

As Sammy said this match "when you stand for nothing, you fall for anything". It was well said because the media, celeberties and these first world people usually stand for nothing useful.
Now they have fallen for anything. Lol

No there are people who will stand up for their stances. De Kock did the right thing. We know dudes is not racist. Just because you dont support the commie and racist BLM movement doesnt mean you haye blacks...

Also black people where not the only race subjected to slavery. Uyigurs who are getting abused today, still get zero notice.

BLM is there to distract.

You cannot force people to stand up for movements. If you do not believe in it, what good is your empty gesture?

BLM is a good movement, it was needed. Pakistanis criticizing it and calling it a media propaganda dont understand the race issue.

However, enforcing the BLM movement in South Africa or even Zimbabwe would likely be controversial. Because in those countries you have made race based laws where the whites are targetted. You have a qouta system in place in a team where your color of the skin matters whether you play or not and not the game.

Thus, if Quinton is not taking the field cause of this than he is right. You have to see the BLM issue from country to country.

India and Pakistan taking the BLM stand was hilarious because India has discriminatory rules and laws and targets muslims in its country. While Pakistan targets Ahmadiyyas and even make fun of Hindu religion...

CSA is a board that tries to counter racism by more racism.

You can't force respect by introducing quotas.

Like Vern Philander said, it not just affects the team combination but puts unnecessarily puts pressure on the players of every race. Black players also suffer from it due to increased expectations put on them as a result of these policies.

The most hypocritical thing I have seen is India taking the knee….

When will they take the knee against the racial discrimination they have in place for the Pakistani public?

When will they take the knee for the civil oppression they have in place for the residents of Kashmir?

When will they take the knee for the discrimination suffered by the lower castes?

When will they take the knee for Muslims who are being targeted, tormented by saffron mobs?

A lot of this depends on what QDK's objections are.

If he doesn't want to kneel for religious reasons then he shouldn't be forced to. Some Black Premier league players don't do this for example.

However I think it becomes messy if he doesn't do this for political reasons, especially given SA history.

I don't see how anyone can be against the core principle of BLM which is that Black Lives Matter as well

Quinny probably has some racist pro apartheid feelings that make him not want to take the knee.

This is an incredibly controversial stance to take while in South African colours.

He clearly had no interest in playing for his country and now he is showing he has no interest in the feelings of his countrymen either.

He will look to migrate to New Zealand or Australia too.

Good job by DeKock. You cannot force someone to show solidarity for an agenda if you dont feel for it. BLM movement is a leftist propaganda....not everyone need to adhere to it. I was gutted when Indian team took the knee.

BLM is a communist and racist movement trying to segregrate instead of unite people.

genuine question, what makes you sake that?

yes corporations have shamelessly latched on to this "communist idea," but I think you are treating a global movement as a monolith and judging it by its worst elements

My respect for QDC has increased. BLM is a facist and Marxist movement that creates division.

I don't expect desis to understand BLM, but to call it meaningless is ignorant to say the least.

The idea of players questioning it is also troubling. Because this is a movement whose core aim is to stand-up against all forms of racism. So what are you saying about yourself when you say you don't support this movement?

Especially as a white South African.

I'm not a fan of BLM or empty gestures such as taking the knee because I feel that virtue signalling does more damage than good.

However, in this case given South Africa's history and continued struggles with legacy issues associated with apartheid, this is an absolutely staggering decision by de Kock. I suspected as much given how he has come across over the years and especially during his short captaincy stint, but this confirms to me that he is a complete imbecile.

De Kock may never play for SA again. But I am sure he would not mind and will be happy to play league cricket like DeVillers. There is no pride for a white person to play for South Africa anyway when the country discriminates against them due to colour of their skin. Just bcoz discrimination happens against whites, we dont call them racists. Imagine if it was other way round? LOL.

After IPL finals which CSK won due to Faf Duplessis, CSA put a tweet congratulating Lungi Ngidi for being a part of CSK but no mention of Faf. When Dale Steyn and others criticized, CSA deleted that tweet. How can any white player play for such a cricket board?

Doing the knee gesture every match though is unnecessary. Doing it once is good enough to show your solidarity.

I fully agree with this post. He is an imbecile

He should have still played he could have taken a knee even if he doesnt agree with it. Playing for your country in ICC tournament is bigger thing.

Look at their idealology. They promote racial segregration, are supported by antfia (commie group) promote CRT.

Are basically domestic terrorists. Funded by soros.

That was a stupid thing to do by CSA. But painting white South Africans as oppressed is quite an ignorant thing for you to do. Especially given South Africa's history. The damage that apartheid has done to South Africa is felt to this day in all stratas of society in what is regarded by many as 'the most unequal country in the world'. Where you would be hard-pressed to find whites who aren't affluent or at the very least, middle-class, as thousands of blacks rot away in slums all over South Africa.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has noted the personal decision by South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock not to “take the knee” ahead of Tuesday’s game against the West Indies.

All players had been required, in line with a directive of the CSA Board on Monday evening, to "take the knee" in a united and consistent stance against racism. This is also the global gesture against racism that has been adopted by sportspeople across sporting codes because they recognise the power of sport to bring people together.

After considering all relevant issues, including the freedom of choice of players, the Board had made it clear it was imperative for the team to be seen taking a stand against racism, especially given SA’s history. The Board’s view was that while diversity can and should find expression in many facets of daily lives, this did not apply when it came to taking a stand against racism.

The Board will await a further report from team management before deciding on the next steps. All players are expected to follow this directive for the remaining games of the World Cup.

CSA thanks all other Proteas players for agreeing to unite and make such an important public stand against racism.

There is nothing wrong in supporting BLM, as useless as you may feel making the gesture is, at least there is nothing wrong in doing it.

Then there is absolutely nothing wrong if someone doesn't want to do it. You cannot force players to do things they don't want to do.

BOTTOM LINE IS that players are here to play cricket. Everything else should be optional. This is absolutely ridiculous on the part of CSA.

The funny thing is that if Mumbai Indians had forced everyone to take the knee then you can best believe that QDK would be the quickest one to get on his knee.

SA’s don’t like being told what to do unless there’s money involved.

oh dear, need to ease up on tucker carlson mate

Lol no you need to stop drinking kool aid. I dont watch tucker. I make my own opinions. The rioting by blm was domestic terrorism.. rioting is considered as domestic terrorism..

Lmaoo socialists and commies taking over... if you cant see that your blind dude. Yuri Bezmenov spoke about this back in the 70s defected KGB agent.

People equate it to BLM and yes it does have it roots with BLM. However, taking the knee is not just for the black people. It is a stand against discrimination, against inequality, whether against blacks, Asians, white people or women.

If you know this in your heart then I don't see a problem with taking the knee. If you feel you shouldn't be forced to take it then follow the guidelines and make a statement or write an article afterwards. Don't make a stand by refusing to do to it in a World Cup match which just lets your teammates down.

whats socialism to you?

trust me, none of what you say is happening in USA, all that's happening is that criticism is more democratised

Same here. This leftist, communist movement should have no place in our society

racism is obviously a very important issue to take a stand against especially for a country like SA. However you cannot force players to take a knee, that is there individual choice.

Even in Formula 1, they have #WeRaceAsOne segment where there is one minute silence to support unity and diversity in sport. Some players like LH take the knee, others don't but everyone supports the concept. Forcing performative activism on people isn't the solution.

Hmm mask mandates vaccine passports, maybe you dont see the news.. this is called SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS. Not all states are doinf this but it is happening.. maybe you have never read history are unaware of how communist and socialist countries were ran..

Basically making 1/3 of the pop 3rd class citizens...

Ruining your international career over taking a knee for 10 seconds in solidarity against racism is perhaps one of the most imbecilic things a cricketer has ever done.

Ehat are you blabbing about? This has nothing to do with racism... there were many races the got enslaved.. not just blacks. And all lives matter not just black lives.. what about the uyigurs? Like use some logic.

You can thank the BCCI. Indian fans are very miffed at Rohit and co. for taking the knee as it looked so weird and unforced. What Babar and co. did was pretty cool, not to mention he rattled Rohit by refusing to take the knee. :yk

His international career is over. A country like SA cant get behind a man with obvious hatred in his heart against their majority. I dont think I will never understand what it was like. Probably growing up hearing about the happy times of apartheid, but his family really did him a disservice.

Taking the knee is a hollow gesture from the western world designed to make people believe they actually care about racism. So I don’t have an issue as such when people don’t want to take the knee, however it is slightly insensitive considering SA history and when the team has only recently gone through investigations about deeply rooted racism you need to come together as a team, be it the knee or other gesture however don’t drop yourself from the team when the whole worlds watching because it makes you look like the racist one.

De knock has always come across as a bit immature I think it was a tour of England where he was captain and couldn’t buy a run, he looked like he gave up rather than try and fight through the bad patch, he’s got form for being a quitter

The gesture was meant to be about racism…why are people throwing out BLM as an excuse for QDK being in his right to not take the knee. There is no room for players who don’t condemn racism

Ehat are you blabbing about? This has nothing to do with racism... there were many races the got enslaved.. not just blacks. And all lives matter not just black lives.. what about the uyigurs? Like use some logic.

That's why it's called Black Lives Matter and not Only Black Lives Matter. And, once again, they're not doing it in the name of BLM. Do you really think the "communists" have infiltrated CSA?

Agreed.

Couple of issues:

1.Symbolic stands and gestures only have meaning if they are genuine. Taking the knee because you are told to do so, and not because you want to show solidarity to black people who suffer from systemic racism all over the world, is not the same as doing it because you really want to. So if you are taking the knee but in your head thinking 'this is nonsense', then it renders the whole thing ludicrous. So I'd rather you didn't frankly.

2. It is a fact that black people (and other people of colour) suffer from systemic institutional racism and discrimination all over the world. We are taking the knee to keep this fact in the spotlight because the more people think about it and the more people are reminded of it, the better chance there is of it being fixed. Otherwise we just carry on as we have been and that is unacceptable.

Otherwise totally agree that given South Africa's history - in living memory - where the legacy and effects of apartheid are still being felt in that country - it is as incredibly childish and immature stance by De Kock. But he is entitled to be childish and immature.

Ridiculous decision by CSA. Forcing their opinion on someone is not the way to go.

If QDK doesn't want to take the knee, that's his choice. Lol at some implying that he is racist for that.

That's why it's called Black Lives Matter and not Only Black Lives Matter. And, once again, they're not doing it in the name of BLM. Do you really think the "communists" have infiltrated CSA?

I think sensible people know that... most people are sensible and not racist. Dont need this especially in 2021. Its a non sense movement filled with racists who hate white and chinese people and probably south asians too

I honestly find it baffling people have an issue with BLM movement. I mean racism happens in all parts of world even in Asia. South Africa has it's own history of racism so it's seriously shocking that De Kock would have a problem with lending support to this movement.

Welcome to the Woke Wet Wipe World Cup.

There are many ways to tackle racism, virtual signalling isn’t one of them. Plus the audacity to force someone to accept a political movement. Democracy and freedom my foot.

The left are the real facists.

The BLM movement is a joke. Majority of the founders have amassed multi million dollar property portfolios whilst living in predominant white neighbourhoods.

BLM is a marketing tool raising money for the owners.

Once again, they're not doing it in the name of BLM. Do you really think the "communists" have infiltrated CSA?

Yes, the South African Communist Party is part of the tripartite alliance with the ANC.

I hope we lose, and will no longer support South African Cricket.

This could be the end of his international career and I am sure he won’t care. He will make plenty of money in franchise cricket.

CSA is racist against white players anyway, they are always looking for an excuse to get rid of a top white player for some rubbish black player.

Fully agree with you, which is strange. I hope South African Cricket dies.

South African cricket is adamant on destroying itself due to its stubborn approach in everything.

No one should be forced to take the knee. Not everyone has had pleasant experiences when it comes to racial discrimination in life. Well done to QDQ actually

That's what happens when ideologues and revolutionaries get in power. They are more interested in winning an argument, by force if necessary, than doing something to advance the material conditions of people. Governance is a job for pragmatic, realistic people.

Racism is a real issue, I am speaking of racism against the black citizens of the world. A large Desi community is guilty of it, we have adapted and promoted products that suppose to make our skin lighter, probably millions of dollar industry just in Pakistan and India.

So if anyone is denying racism or minimizing it either do not understand it or are kind of supporting it.

But, If QDQ does not believe in kneeling then that is his choice, can't force it upon anyone. CSA messed up.

Make him take the knee in the IPL. He'll do it before and after every match, and thrice in the knockouts.

I don't think we have enough information on the matter to be hurling personal insults at a player.

QDK has served CSA with great performances and carried on their batting legacy when the rest of their players had the combined IQ of a walnut.

He has been a diamond for them. We don't know how a situation such as this can affect players mentally, and what politics are being spewed in the board itself.

Before questioning his decision and calling him an "imbecile" or a "racist", need I remind you that South Africa's head of cricket, whatever his name is, has been called out by colored members of the team for being a spearhead of racism in their most dominant years.

I am yet to hear anything similar about QDK, and this racism instilled within that organization was clear through their actions on social media, congratulating Ngidi but not Faf+Tahir who gave far better performances and were extremely good ambassadors for SA cricket?

I don't judge people from a decision they take; I have my own theories about what is happening in CSA.

Neither should we judge De Kock for making a personal decision without hearing what he has to say.

I think we all need to wait and see what his response is, because given how bad the situation is in CSA, it could be more bewildering than we think.

I do agree that it is necessary to take a stand against racism, whenever and wherever possible, but I don't agree with slandering the name of a player who has been a great servant of world cricket.

QDk opting out of the match was a blessing in disguise for South Africa.

Their two best bats whom I rate as I mentioned in last game thread, have helped them win the game with crucial knocks.

I honestly find it baffling people have an issue with BLM movement. I mean racism happens in all parts of world even in Asia. South Africa has it's own history of racism so it's seriously shocking that De Kock would have a problem with lending support to this movement.

In case you have not noticed, for some desis these days its considered hip or cool to follow the right wing ideology and believe in the garbage thats spewed from the RW media outlets. You will see a lot of them basically recycling the same conspiracy theories and talking points used by the likes of Tucker Carlson, Hannity, etc.

I call these kids Brown Rush Limbaughs.

Individual freedoms are guaranteed by collective action, and regardless the USA doesn't have any of what you mentioned being mandated by the Federal Government.

Whats your view of drug prices in America, do you think its too high compared to Canada

He would’ve choked in this World Cup anyway as he does in ICC tournaments

I am required not to be racist. Thats the thing.

I cannot be asked to join anyone's political movement.

Lol nice joke...your countrys mentality is aptly shown by ex coach today...gazwa hind dreaming shoaib...n countless others..

No wonder we don't need you in IPL Or wish to play Any bilateral with you...cause Extremism and Sports cannot go together..

N before accusing India...just google on conditions of minorities in your country..

I am required not to be racist. Thats the thing.

I cannot be asked to join anyone's political movement.

It is political if you make it. De Kock has black teammates. They believe in the movement, as a teammate, kneeling down doesn't make him part of some big conspiracy.

It is not a political movement btw BLM is simply - dedicated to fighting racism and anti-Black violence.

I'm against mandating political gestures and think John Barnes as always makes a valid point about taking the knee being used as a substitute for deep, substantive reforms.

However de Kock not opposed to making gestures on the field - he once made a Save The Rhino gesture.

Do the lives of rhinos matter more than his black countrymen ?

I am also against Indian team taking the knee. They are getting heavily criticized in various quarters in India for this

Could taking the knee have been so offensive to little privileged fella behind the stumps he had to skip the match? He should be sent home.

I feel for South Africa as a country as I can relate a lot to the tensions within their nation. The rainbow nation is one of the few countries that has a similar level of diversity as India, and diversity almost always brings divisions. It's a bit sad to see the inter community tensions running high in their country. Whenever I read about them in the news, I'm always remembered of how similar India and South Africa are, in having a divided society, which is kinda sad.

It was against black opposition too. No matter what you think of taking the knee, QDK feeling the need to protest in this manner against the Windies doesn't reflect well on him.

Quite a nonsensical decision from Quinny and it looked like the team didn't feel his absence too much anyway.
