Quinton de Kock reverses ODI retirement for Pakistan Tour [Update @ post#223]

Good. Pretorious is too raw. de zorzi and Rickelton are not going to cut it either. Bavuma is old and crumbling.

With Klaasen gone and Stubbs not stepping up, Saffers batting was on shaky ground. Quinton himself looks washed but let's hope he can find some form on the international scene.

Bad for us but in a way good for them to be more tested and ready for t20 wc

South Africa's Test Squad is in Lahore but their T20I squad, including Quinton de Kock, will play a one-off T20I v Namibia today to inaugurate their newly built FNB Namibia Cricket Ground.

He didn't reverse his retirement because of his love for international cricket and the national team. He reversed his retirement because his demand in leagues was low and he realized that he had to remain in the limelight, be more relevant to maximize his chances of getting picked by leagues and no better way to go about this by making himself available for South Africa in ODI and T20 Cricket again.

The match was today and Nambiar defeated South Africa in the t20. De Kock made 1.

Lol, Qdk as a batter is nowhere near Dhonu who is probably the 6th or 7th greatest Odi batsman.

One thing you will notice with the naysayers is that they will always use some bogus logic instead of actually providing stats.

The usual propaganda of using stats in KOs also fails when comparing Dhoni to Quinny.

It's a team game and if the team let's you down not much you can do. A player can't perform.in every match or every event. Ponting didn't dominate every game as a batsmen either. Infact 2011 wc was won without Sachin's help excluding the semi final.

Agree with the first part that a player can only perform, it’s a team game and how the team performs overall determines if they do enough to take advantage of a great effort by any of their players.

However, you might want to revalidate the bolded statement about Tendulkar’s performance in the 2011 WC.

Sachin Tendulkar was India’s top and the tournament’s second highest scorer in the 2011 WC after T. Dilshan who scored 18 more runs than Tendulkar. Tendulkar scored 482 runs in 9 innings during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, with an average of 53.55 and a strike rate of 91.98. He hit 2 centuries and 2 fifties, playing a pivotal role in India’s title-winning campaign.

What a comeback this has been for QDK, two half-centuries in two ODIs against Pakistan. This time reached the landmark in 49 balls, currently at 53* in 2nd ODI at Faisalabad

Quinton de Kock Gone after scoring a brilliant 106 off 89 balls...

Quinton De Kock Equals Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma's World Record, Shatters Another With Ton vs India

Quinton de Kock, after scoring 8 and 0 in the first two India vs South Africa ODIs, looked like a man on a mission in the final and deciding ODI in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The South African wicketkeeper-batter reached his 23rd ODI century in just 80 balls, with the help of six sixes and eight fours. This was de Kock's seventh ODI century against India. On reaching the mark, de Kock either equalled or shattered several world records.

De Kock's seventh century is the joint-most by any batter in an away country. He equalled a feat previously achieved by Sachin Tendulkar, Saeed Anwar, Rohit Sharma, among others.

Most ODI hundreds in an away country

7 - Sachin Tendulkar in UAE

7 - Saeed Anwar in UAE

7 - AB de Villiers in India

7 - Rohit Sharma in England

7 - Quinton de Kock in India

*Including neutral venues

The South African now has the most ODI centuries against an opponent by designated wicketkeepers:

6 - Adam Gilchrist vs Sri Lanka

6 - Kumar Sangakkara vs India

5 - Kumar Sangakkara vs Bangladesh

4 - Quinton de Kock vs Sri Lanka

7 - Sanath Jayasuriya (85 innings)

6 - AB de Villiers (32 innings)

6 - Ricky Ponting (59 innings)

6 - Kumar Sangakkara (71 innings)

De Kock is now equal with another Sri Lanka great, Kumar Sangakkara, for most ODI tons as a designated wicketkeeper:

23 - Kumar Sangakkara

23 - Quinton de Kock

19 - Shai Hope

16 - Adam Gilchrist

11 - Jos Buttler

10 - AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni

India won the toss and elected to field against South Africa in the third and final ODI of the series in Visakhapatnam. The last time India won the toss in an ODI was during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Virat Kohli has been in brilliant form in the ongoing three-match ODI series with two back-to-back centuries. Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the series, while Kuldeep Yadav has taken the most wickets, with five scalps in two matches.

The series is tied 1-1, with India winning the first match in Ranchi and South Africa levelling things up in Raipur. Both previous games saw the team batting first after posting more than 340 runs.
