Pakistan Railways authorities were responsible for the massive fire on the Tezgam Express in October, a report has said.

Seventy-four people were killed on October 31 after the Tezgam Express caught fire near Rahim Yar Khan. The fire spread to three bogies of the moving train. It was heading to Rawalpindi from Karachi and was near the Tanwari Railway Station when the fire erupted. More than 40 people were injured.

The Railway authorities, including Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed, had blamed passengers who had brought cylinders on the train. The passengers, all from the Tableeghi Jamaat, had brought gas cylinders and were cooking food when one exploded, causing the fire, authorities had said.

But a Railways report released on Wednesday placed the blame on the Railway authorities, not the passengers. The dining car manager and waiters had set up a makeshift kitchen in bogies 11 and 12, said the report. That is where the fire broke out.

The situation was compounded due to the gas cylinders in the train but did not occur due to them, said the report. The cylinders exploded after the train caught fire, making it worse.

The waiters and dining car manager used the makeshift kitchen to make tea and food for passengers.

The report also held five Railways officers, including the deputy divisional superintendent of Karachi and divisional commercial officers in Karachi and Hyderabad responsible for not stopping passengers who brought gas cylinders on the train.

According to the ministry, there were 933 passengers on the train and 207 in the three bogies that caught fire.

Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed had told SAMAA TV at the time of the accident that the fire broke out at 6:30am. There were two coaches booked by members of the Tableeghi Jamaat who were going to a gathering in Raiwind, he said, adding that they had brought two cylinders with them and stoves to cook food. One cylinder exploded, triggering the second one as well, said the minister. Their two coaches and a business class coach caught fire, he said,

It was an accident and we will have to take notice of things like this, he had said.

WHen this incident took place, Sheikh Rasheed without any investigation placed the blame on cylinders and the passengers.

At the time i said it was unprofessional from the railway minister to give such dumb statements without any investigation, and the PTI blind wagon started to attack.

Now investigation is done, and guess what. The fire never started due to the cylinders. Sheikh Rasheed lied about it.

PM doesnt give two hoots, and this railway minister lol never cared about anyone.

There was a time in India when finance minister resigned coz of an Insurance scam that happened under him, the good old days of democracy for 20-28 years :P

wow that's good.
it is not common in our countries for ministers to resign after an incident.

and no calls for his resignation by the fan club that doesnt live in Pakistan :)

I definitely think Sheikh Rasheed should resign, not just for this incident but overall he is useless as minister and more suited for "Ministry of Gossips".

If anyone wants to see how Imran is making a fool of the nation and exposing himself as a con-artist, don’t look beyond the complete lack of accountability.

Let’s not forget what he died after the Lodhran accident in 2017, when Saad Rafique was the Railway Minister:

“I think the Railway Minister should resign. Anywhere in the world, whenever there is a railway accident, the minister resigns because unless he does so, there cannot be any proper inquiry”.

He has no shame whatsoever, and his supporters are even more shameless.

Well if that is true, he should have asked Sheikh Rasheed to resign.

But as I keep saying in every thread the haters keep searching for these kind of newz. But remember the lovers will not let you live peacefully either if PTI doesn’t win next election. Always easy to critisize when in opposition.

Why there was cylinder though? How did it get pass through security?

Due to high inflation, people cant afford to buy food from outside. Train passengers are mostly those who belong from the lowest income groups. Portable gas cylinders are quite cheap and people often get those to cook food from scratch as its much cheaper.

Plus, this train had passengers full of people belong to a religious group and were on their way to attend some event related to their sect. I think it was the Tableeghi jamaat people.
Thus, often, our govt and institution give these people leverage on alot of stuff. Because they are viewed as religious people.
