I think the match should have started 30 minutes early but it is probably raining atm

Wthhhhh why not an early start they lost over 30 overs Australia stArts an hour early if they even lose 5 over s

everyone is freezing out there, Russell is having difficulty just making his point. SL batsmen are going to be very stiff

The weather is seriously cold out today. Hope Naseem doesn't catch a cold!

Why is Naseem being overbowled what is the use of Shanwari if he can't do donkey work

Rizwan should have been standing slightly up especially given the nature of the surface. This has been Pakistan's dilemma forever no one can teach you these things it has to come with reading the game and being one step ahead. Wicket at this stage would have opened the tail but hell when can we expect any smartness from Pakistan team.

lol i remember Kamran Akmal used to stand miles behind to Asif.

He missed so many chances due to this positioning in 2009 NZ and 2010 england series

its good tactic though for someone like Akmal.

Narrative becomes 'ball fell short' rather than 'dropped catch.'

Any chance of match starting today? It is raining heavily as per cricbuzz.

The rain has stopped and the sun seems to be making its way out, at least that's what I see outside my window.

Is there any chance of play today?

Not looking good right now.

I come from Rawalpindi. These kind of rains last for days here. Even if there is play it would be very little. Same for tomorrow and may be even day 4

After appointing Misbah, this one has to be WK’s worst decision- to arrange a Test match in Pindi, in middle of December.

Don’t these people check climate or weather forecast/trend before scheduling a Test? There had been so many instances of a Test match in PAK wasted by weather in particular season. In 1989, PAK-IND series, 1992 PAK-SRL, that famous series here ZIM won in PAK, PAK-SAF in 1997.... those were before satellite age; but if in 2019 such a Test match is washed out for weather in a country stressed by over 1500km north south ... someone needs to lose his job!!!!! Abnormal weather is different issue, but there were couple of cancellations in domestic tournaments as well in northern PAK during this period. Yesterday, I saw probably the best crowed in PAK for Day 1 of a Test - these people deserve better.

Multan was the best place apart from Karachi in this season. North part of the Pakistan is never ideal for test matches

Extremly foolish decision by PCB

Agreed but you also have to note that the country is holding their first Test match in over a decade. This isnt India where you can hold a Test match anywhere from Bombay to Delhi to Himachal Pradesh without having to think twice. Pakistan needs to lockdown an entire city, involve the entire district, army, provincial and federal police to hold 5 days of cricket. It's a loooong process that requires a lot of planning and support from different departments and organisations working in Pakistan.

You can just stage a match without a lengthy security test in Peshawar, Balochistan, Sialkot, Hyderabad and others. Karachi already has a match. For those suggesting Multan, theres ought to be some reason, perhaps security concerns with Sipah-e-Sahaba emerging from Southern Punjab - the group that attacked Sri Lankans the last time.

Is the Multan Stadium ready for top level cricket? There were no QEA matches there this season, presumably renovations happening for PSL. Besides, the forecast is showing showers for Multan also today. Even Karachi had a bit of drizzle yesterday.

At least you will get 90 overs if there is no rain. Light is really bad in northern part of Pakistan

Okay at least play D/N match, then you don't have to play 70 overs a day. Bad light won't be a issue :))

No point if the stadium isn't ready.

But anyway, keeping the weather aside, the match start for Rawalpindi should have been scheduled for maximum 9am, if sunset is at 5pm. 9.45am start means you are guaranteed to lose at least 30 mins a day, besides the extra 30 mins that are available at the end of play. If they keep starting at 9.45am, it'll be tough to get in more than 75 overs a day, even if there is no rain.

D/N better solution imo

This isnt Karachi or Lahore. During this time of the year, the grounds are soaked with dew until even 10 AM. The ball gets wet and the bowlers have a hard time gripping the ball.

Pakistan does not have modern technology to take care of the dew in the outfield but even if we did, it would only make a slight difference.

Well then, D/N Tests are the only possibility for this time of year up north.

Yep. It MIGHT be too cold to play though. I'm not sure. December nights in Islamabad are extremely cold. Easily 4-5 degree Celsius with odd instances of temperatures dropping to 0 degrees Celsius and sometimes even below.

Coldest day last year was -3 degree C.

Its funny how it hardly ever rained in Pakistan when cricket was a norm in Pakistan but since it has become a novelty factor, it rains more than usual on matchdays even though it hardly rains there throughout the year.

When I was a kid, I once remember it snowing in Islamabad. Now, every other year we do get a little bit of snow (kind of) on the odd day, towards the mountains. However, on the particular day that I'm talking about, there was proper snow. It snowed like we were in Murree and I even made a snowman with my cousin. I still have photos of it.

Islamabad always receives a good amount of rainfall throughout the year so this is not an anomaly.

Unless pakistani batsmen score a couple of sub 150 runs , there wont be any result of this match. Fingers crossed.

I said yesterday, playing cricket in the middle of winter is just plain dumb.
Not only is it wet out there but it looks freezing! Someone is goung to get hurt, (afridi already is).
Pcb are truly dumb!

I think rain will pretty much ruin the game from here onwards.

Hopefully the match starts soon as we only have a little bit of time left. The rain is expected to come back sometime after 3 pm. In that case we can only hope for an hour and a half of play and I hope we get all of it.

I know new ball is close by but why not bowl Shanwari one end try to pick a wicket after long delay

How exactly do they plan on having that third session when it's dark by then? 5.15pm is after sunset :))

Now you can't blame them for everything. They have to consider the quality of the facilities and more importantly security. I am sure the venues would've been decided in consultation with the government and security establishment and Pindi preferred for some valid reason.
