What's new

Rain-hit second Test match between England and Pakistan ends in a draw

The only thing worth contemplating is if PAK can give ENG a scare in the sense of what awaits them. But that’s all really. So perhaps try to take a few wickets here, ideally get to the tail.

Much better conditions for batting today. Much more light and less cloud cover.

If Abbas is going to continue to bowl at least bring Rizwan up. Sun is out, good visibility, ball not doing as much in the air.

And increase the chances of getting injured? Rather we should bowl Naseem and see if we can injure some of their players

Looks like the clouds from Southampton have come to visit NL.

It is absolutely pelting down.

I presume you mean why risk injury in a dead game? If that’s the case, fair enough. But if it’s about standing up at all, then I think we know he’ll have to do it in 3rd test like the 1st one.

This is the part of a Test match when bowlers start imitating other peoples' bowling actions.

I wonder the likes of Mamoon would also call Crawley inning fluke after a missed catch and an edge that did.not carry to slip, or fluke is only reserved for Pakistan.

Get to 20 overs and then let Shan and Fawad have a go. Lol, would be great if Fawad gets a wicket or something.

Enjoyable time for Sibley and Crawley with no way near as much movement as before due to change in weather and not much pressure as well.

Even Anderson got one. Barbers would have been arranged probably.

The England players were released from the bubble but the Pakistani players were not, perhaps someone in the camp has a set of clippers and can do a decent job.

Yes they were but, I guess there would have been some limitations. Its maybe understandable to be with family but not sure if they were allowed to roam around. In any case it would not have been that difficult to arrange a barber with testing and precautions in place before getting him/her in for Pakistani players.

Worth trying out Shan as well sometime today, bowls decent medium pace.

Nothing really impressive with Naseem. More suited to the low pitches of Pak.

Doesn't really get that zip or movement consistently

Pak best chance was the old Trafford test which was tailor made for Yasir shah.

If the wicket isn't helpful to spinners, pak will struggle to get 20 wickets with the xurrebr seamers

Crawley and Sibley are so tall that they have to make an effort to crouch and hit full wide deliveries

Leg slip, men back for the hook, round the wicket. Here comes the short stuff.

Should bring on Yasir now. Suns out, pacers looking off the boil and ineffective. Should be Yasir one end, Naseem bouncers the other.

Naseem never looks like taking a wicket. Need to drop him and put a more experienced bowler in. He is far too raw.

This is just a glorified net session for the English Batsmen...
Absolutely nothing to be gained for the Pakistani bowlers...
Just the English top order get to practice against our bowlers...

Oh yes because abbas and shaheen do look like taking wickets dont they....pitched has eased n he stil bowlin 89mph pretty gud to me

Naseem hasnt really looked threatening in both test. Neither has SSA. Need more experience in this line up

So what of he bowls 89mph. Not exactly rushing the batters is he. If you can't move the ball, pace is redundant

Out of context but I think Babar is ready to take over test captaincy, his confidence has gone up considerably since he has been given the T20 and now ODI captaincy as well. Have noticed in this series his persona in the field has grown a lot as well.

I have a feeling he will do a decent job.

It’s like Pakistan have made a deal with England to bowl like a bunch of women to give them batting practice?! Get these gore jumping around a bit!

I didn't know it was going to rain again.
Still unsure why they don't put down some waterproof sheets or whatever they use in SL across the WHOLE ground

Again - covers across the whole ground is banned in England because it's seen as ineffective here and potentially damaging to the state of the pitch.

PAK bowlers are saving themselves for Friday.

Batted Creepy, keep going....

Bit worried about the start to his T20 captaincy career though.

He okayed the recalling of Hafeez and Malik against a weak Bangladesh side at home when that was an ideal opportunity for youngsters, and backed the selection of Usman Qadir ahead of spinners like Zafar Gohar who he plays with for Central Punjab.

Beautiful bowling by Abbas.

Loved how he stared Joe Root!

That’s more like it!

I don't know how people thought of dropping Abbas for an England tour with a Dukes ball.

Dom Sibley is so ugly to watch. I was happy Azhar Ali's career is coming to an end so we won't see some ugly batting but in comes Sibley and he's Azhar Ali 2.0

Naseem is overrated. Muhammad Amir of 2010 was once in a generation bowler like Wasim Akram

Naseem might be useful in white ball cricket

You are right in questioning those calls but, I personally take it as a positive that he has the confidence to take decisions and ask for players he want which is something that hasnt been pretty common with Pak captains in recent times. He will obviously learn few things with time but, overall I am liking his growing confidence on the field and the way he is carrying himself overall.

Abbass has bowled well within his limitation, best bowler by far.

Amir was really really good.

If IK approves a bowler at the age of 18 he must be something very special.

Will never forgive Butt for ruining his career.

Ordinary batting from Eng in last few overs under much improved batting conditions and undoubtedly good stuff from Abbas.

Amir was different gravy in comparison to Naseem. Amir was lethal and could move the ball both ways.

Naseem is just basically a bowling matchine set at 87mph

The natural bowling intelligence which Amir had along with his skills was a rarity.

Current Pak test pacers will have to develop it. They can do so if they are willing to put in the hard yards, talk as much as they can with Waqar, Wasim and even with Amir on the field in LOIs and Abbas in tests. I personally would have captain on Mid off and one of the senior bowlers like Amir and Abbas on the mid on for them to guide them through.

Waqar and Wasim were lucky to have someone like Imran as captain who guided them along.

He has only bowled 5 overs for 10 runs . Maybe have realistic expectations , instead ?

Warne used the slider to great effect later in his career.

Can anyone explain it’s secrets or why it was so effective?

As said before this match would have been a pretty good one without rain. Eng's middle order is struggling even in these much improved conditions.

Naseem has potential - there is no doubt about it.

But he has to learn a lot.
