A lesser known political outfit, Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, has decided to field Shambhulal Regar — accused of hacking a Muslim man to death and burning his body in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand — as its candidate from Agra Lok Sabha seat.

Though Regar is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail, party leaders are confident that he would win the election. The Agra (reserved) Lok Sabha seat is presently represented by former union minister Ram Shankar Katheria who is the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC).

National president of UP Navnirman Sena Amit Jani said: “If a person is accused in a murder case it does not mean he is a murderer... Regar has the constitutional right to contest election till his conviction...” He said the party had offered Regar a ticket which he had accepted.

“There will be objections from parties which have otherwise given tickets to people like Atiq Ahmad, Mukhtar Ansari and Shahabuddin and got them elected in the name of secularism. These parties will oppose the candidature of Shambhulal Regar who comparatively faces lighter charges than many others contesting elections,” Jani claimed.

He said the BJP should have given ticket to Regar from some assembly seat in Rajasthan but it was in no mood to do so. “Navnirman Sena will field candidates in UP for Lok Sabha elections...The seers will guide us and also campaign for our candidates,” Jani added.

Labourer Mohd Afrazul, who hailed from West Bengal, was allegedly hacked and burnt alive on December 6 last year by Regar. After killing Afrazul, Regar was seen in a video ranting that he did it to ‘stop Love Jihad’, a term publicised to refer to Muslim men marrying Hindu women.

Jani was arrested in October 2017 in Agra along with his associate Updesh Rana for posting a controversial post depicting Taj Mahal as ‘Tejomahalaya’, a Shiv Temple, on social media.

Even the paper is a disgrace. It says Mohd was 'allegedly' hacked. There is nothing alleged about it, this killer was on camera hacking away.

Not sure how he can contest. Was the case against him proved in the court? If so, he will be ineligible to contest elections.

If the case against him is still pending, then he can contest. There are many people with criminal cases pending against them contesting in elections each year.

I cant believe it.

This is how they make the Indian citizens happy? Is this what actually contributes to votes.
Deplorable.

This is India, folks. The largest democracy in the world and a future superpower.

Someone needs to conquer them again, ASAP.

The so-called largest democracy in the world where murders and rapists roam free with an impunity. So much for a Corporate and bollywood India to cover...

Huge Crowd Gathers As Mukhtar Ansari Buried In Family Graveyard In UP

The funeral of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari took place amid heightened security in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur today. The body was transported to the ancestral burial site of the Ansari family, situated approximately half a kilometre away from their Ghazipur home. On Friday, a grave was excavated adjacent to the resting place of Mr Ansari's parents. Heavy security has been deployed in Ghazipur and surrounding areas in anticipation of the funeral.

Following the completion of the postmortem examination at Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda district, Mr Ansari's body was brought to his hometown Ghazipur, covering a 400-kilometre route.

A convoy of 26 vehicles, including 24 police vehicles alongside the ambulance carrying Mr Ansari's body, made its way through districts like Prayagraj, Bhadohi, Kaushambi, and Varanasi, before reaching Ghazipur, where Mr Ansari's legacy is both feared and revered.

Mr Ansari's sons Umar Ansari and Abbas Ansari, and the latter's wife, accompanied by two cousins, were present inside the ambulance during the journey. The UP government planned the route in anticipation of security concerns, given Mr Ansari's notorious past and the sensitive nature of the situation.

Family's Allegations

Despite the security arrangements, controversy looms over Mr Ansari's death. His family has alleged that he was subjected to "slow poisoning" during his incarceration. However, according to news agency PTI, a postmortem examination confirmed that Ansari, 68, died of a heart attack, conducted by a panel of five doctors at Rani Durgavati Medical College.

His family claims they were not informed directly about his demise and learned about it through the media.

Mr Ansari's life was marred by controversies and legal battles. In April 2023, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. Earlier this month, he received a life sentence for his involvement in obtaining an arms license using forged documents.

Criminal Record

His first encounter with law enforcement took place when he was just 15 years old. From thereon, his criminal record burgeoned, with a staggering 65 cases lodged against him, ranging from murder to extortion.

However, Mr Ansari's notoriety did not deter his foray into politics. He was elected as an MLA in UP on five occasions, representing different political parties.

Post a commentDespite his criminal graph escalating over the years, Mr Ansari continued to wield political influence, even founding his own party, Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED), and securing electoral victories. However, his criminal pursuits eventually caught up with him, with numerous convictions and ongoing trials in various courts.
