Umar turns it on after Pakistan omission

KARACHI: After his unceremonious expulsion from Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad, Umar Akmal vented his anger on the local club bowlers with a swashbuckling knock in the 32nd Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramzan Cricket Festival here on Wednesday.

Umar’s hurricane 47-ball innings contained seven boundaries and six sixes, while opener Shahid Yousuf was the only other batsman to cross 20. He scored 26 off 21 balls with three boundaries.

Off-spinner Farhan Arif captured three wickets for 24 runs with slow left-armer Khurram Humayun taking 2-19.

Performances in ramzaan cup

Really impressed with karbala heroes .. specialy khushdil shah.. any other promising performances? hassan talat also imrpressed me with his bowling..

Lol at the people trying to troll him or bring him down. He's gone away and is working on his fitness and performances what more can he do? He's playing in a T20 cup and is performing and people are having issue with this? Sometimes I question the logic of some memenership here.

watching moin khans son bat live on ptv sports. he is massive but very good hitting and timing

Shahid Afridi speaking at the tournament:

"With time things change, before it was international cricket that I enjoyed and now I am enjoying Ramzan cricket"

"Players gets a chance in a nice atmosphere to get awareness of the game during Ramzan cricket, Ramzan is a festival and T20 cricket has always been Pakistan's identity so there is a lot of talent here"

"Azam Khan looks like a good player but he'll need to take care of his health and eat less biryani and nihari, he is a clean hitter"

"I said the Pak Eng match was like a final and Pakistan won so I'm really happy, Pakistan has surpassed expectations"

"Whatever the result of the final is, I want the team to play freely and positively as they play in the PSL matches, that's how to play cricket"

local administration needs to back local cricket tournaments, there are so many philonthropists and cricket patrons like nadeem omar, muhammad ali shah, moin khan, rashid latif who have kept club scene alive in karachi

but the corrupt KCCA and the corrupt local administration has done nothing and doesnt patronize such crucial events and even the idiot karachi sports journalists pay no attention to highlight such events.

he is just a waste... seriously , people need to wake up and move past these failures ... we stuck with shahzad for sooooo long fearing how youngsters will perform and sharjeel and now fakhar has stormed us ... same way need to get rid of these akmal brothers for good.... too much more talented and mentally strong players in PSL n domestic waiting for their turn

Ready nahi hai abhi. Two-three years of development needed. I hope you get to see some of the other younger batsmen from Qalandars, in particular Rafay who's a wonderful strokemaker. Such a clean swing of the bat.

He was excellent against pace on the LQ tour of Sydney, but the one major flaw in his batting is his temperament. He frequently threw away good starts.

Hopefully he overcomes the issue with experience.

What is the probability of Rafay getting picked for SA T20 event ? (If players from pak can be picked)

Grim chances in my view. But would be great oppurtunity if He is picked.

Aqib would go with Saif & Fakhar.

Rafay seems to be really rated highly by CD Bhai as well.

Eager to watch him bat.

Slim chances, in fact I don't think Rafay was part of the LQ squad for the Emirati T20.

Class bat, his timing is up there with Sharjeel.

Unfortunately, hasn't been getting the chances he deserves due to non cricketing reasons.

If you people will keep on highlighting non-cricketing reasons than I am afraid He won't even get chances in domestic B grade tournaments too. So it's a request not to mention this stuff just for the sake of somebody's professional career.

Rafay was the only player who scored 50 in Australia and luckily infront of Waqar Younis in Sydney. Waqar should help him as he is close to Mushtaq Ahmed who is head coach at NCA. I only want Rafay to get selected for Bahawalpur T20 team and in some FC & List A squads next season. Than ball will be in his court. If he performs well He should be picked for PSL aswell as for tournaments like Pentangular/Pakistan Cup. Further good performances should mean Pakistan A reward.

Hamza_ He is good of backfoot. Good on Cut shot.

Ellipsism He has 2 years contract with LQ so LQ can give him chance for PSL or for CSA T20 event. For Emirati tournament only 4 were picked rest all were players from pak domestic or foreign players. Wherever Aqib would have say He would opt for Saif over Rafay. Saif is highly talented but He needs time in domestic. Than he should be exposed to higher levels.

PCB can develop a Joe Root in Saif Badar provided they go by proper player development pathway.

Asif ali (SNGPL) played a crazy inns in the final of Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cup. He scored 68 of just 21 balls smashed 10 sixes.

SSGC are such a strong team.

KElectric 102/8.

Non cricketing reasons should never be there. If boy has potential to wear green and serve for green team in future then he must be developed.

Simple as that, Nothing else matters.

I hope after seeing how the newbies Shadab Hasan and fakhar have been rewarded for their hard work the youngsters in our domestic feel the fire and passion and try their utmost best to impress. Especially I am hopeful for the next psl session. I wish to see young players giving it their all knowing there is a big chance of a reward. Exciting times ahead.

Ghulam Mudassar K-Electric ki taraf se bowling karne ke liye aa rahe hain... ya to hero banein gein ya loadshedding.

Commentary

K-Electric win by 2 runs.

On the last ball, the commentator was asking if Adil Amin can emulate Miandad...

This is a farce.

Had he come earlier, surely the would had a better chance at winning.

He is better than most of their 'batsmen'.

Their batting lineup: Awais Zia, Saifullah Bangash, Umar Amin, Adil Amin, Mohammad Waqas, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Tariq Haroon, Aamer Yamin, Zafar Gohar, Usama Mir.

Manage to catch the last couple of overs, and Ghulam was definitely looking more nippy with his action looking more refined, as well.

Instead they had Mohammad Waqas who couldn't lay bat on ball at #5.

What has happened to Waqas ? :'(

Last year He almost made it to the Pakistan A squad.

15 months ago his FC average was 48 and T20 average was 30 plus.

He played a Gun 60 plus knock with 6 sixes to draw a T20 televised match 3 years ago. (Grade 1)

Hope he revives his form & performance.

Should've sent in Usama Mir earlier. He hit 4 sixes to win the game for his team in the last match

Great to see his development. Have been following him since He was 16. InshaAllah Pak Cap soon.

Yamin is not a genuine allrounder. He is a batsman mainly and needs to bat at number 4-5 in all formats. He has opened in QEA semfinal/final for SBP 2-3 years ago and scored a fifty. It wad televised. He has a FC double ton in his debut FC season. He is being wasted needlessly which is a pity.

I hope it's some other guy because this one looked really terrible at the crease.
