KARACHI: Former Pakistan batsman Ramiz Raja on Thursday revealed he is producing a movie and has cast Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt for the lead role.

“It’s true, I am making a movie,” Ramiz said while speaking to The Express Tribune. The cricketer-turned-commentator said an actress has not yet been finalised for the role and he’s uncertain whether it will be a Pakistani or an Indian star.

“I can confirm that Sanjay will be playing the lead role in the movie and the plot will revolve around spreading the message of peace through cricket,” he added.

‘PSL 2 will be bigger and better’

The 54-year-old, who is one of the brand ambassadors for Pakistan Super League (PSL), will be in the UAE from February 9, the opening ceremony of the second edition, and he thinks this version would be better than the last one.

“It is going to be bigger, better and more fun,” said Ramiz. “It is one of the best products when compared to other T20 leagues around the world. I am hoping you will get to see better matches and more crowds.”

The former Pakistan opener further said the schedule in the second edition will help draw in more crowds.

“The schedule is very feasible this time,” he said. “It has more breaks so people will be able to enjoy matches more and the players would also be fresh to perform at their peak in every match.”

On PCB’s round table conference

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan on Wednesday announced that he will be calling all former cricketers and veterans to a round table conference on March 6 and 7 to discuss problems hindering the progress of the game in the country.

According to a press release published by the PCB, invitations to attend the meeting have been sent out to a number of people including Ramiz.

When asked if he would attend the meeting, Ramiz said: “I would definitely go and I would urge everyone to come.”

The issues that will be discussed in the meeting are: Improving teams’ performances, domestic structure, improvement of pitches, coaching of national and junior teams and encouragement to foreign teams to tour Pakistan.

Congrats to him, I hope he makes a great one. Well going by this "Spreading the message of peace through cricket" it seems like the plot is going to be boring Bollywood type.

Will be a killer if narrated by Ramiz

New Delhi: Former Pakistan cricket captain on Thursday announced that he will cast Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt in a film he is producing.

According to Geo News, the movie would focus on the power of cricket, and it can be used to eliminate terrorism.

It also reported that the female lead for his movie is yet to be announced but it's rumoured that Raees star Mahira Khan and Katrina Kaif would star opposite Dutt in a 1-hero, 2-heroine flick.

Interestingly, the cricketer-turned-commentator was in the news for his criticism of Pakistan after tennis fans in the country missed out the recent Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal Australian Open final.

He took to Twitter to expressed his disappointment. "Unbelievable: We are such a sports unfriendly nation that no channel showed the iconic Federer Nadal Australian Open final.shameful," he wrote.

But as expected, there were supporters and critics.

What does that even mean.

It would suggest that the Federer-Nadal classic wasn't televised in Pakistan, which I find hard to believe. Anyone with a cable connection should've been able to view it. Unless of course Rameez wanted it televised on PTV. If it wasn't, it is a valid criticism and highlights our failing as a nation.

US Open is televised on Ten Sports in Pakistan and Wimbledon on PTV. Australian Open is on Star Sports I think which local cable companies have removed since the banning of Pakistani artists in India. No Pakistani channel telecasted Australian Open.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

Rambo to make a guest appearance of course.......as a commentator.

Why not venture in to cinema for Rambo! As long as he doesn't cast himself as the main lead it is something worth trying. He could be the next Steven Spielberg!:misbah4

Ramiz Raja is making a film about cricket and it will star Sanjay Dutt!

Pakistani cricket commentator and former batsman Ramiz Raja has revealed that he's making a film.

"Yes, I'm writing and co-producing a film," Raja confirmed to Images. The film, unsurprisingly, is about cricket!

It's apparent that Raja is pouring his decades of observations about the game into the film.

"The topic was very close to my heart,"
he elaborated. "I wanted it to reach the audience, be it in the form of a documentary or a film. You know, how cricket could heal and bond every tier of society, especially the downtrodden, little kids lost to terrorism... I've had this topic in my mind for ten years. I think [the sport] has strength, a type of special force, a neutral force that can be launched anywhere. Through cricket, through this great medium, we can serve society."

"Cricket has the muscles to heal wounds and that's what I want to show in the film," he concluded.

The film is titled Dorbaz and will star Sanjay Dutt in the lead role, Raja also revealed. How did he manage that coup, we wonder?

"Dorbaz is based on a thought that just wouldn't leave my mind and somehow the idea got accepted by a production [company] in India and things just went on from there," he shared.

"Sanjay is extremely excited about the script. He's got great star-power, he's got presence and I think the role suits him perfectly."

Brushing aside reports that he's eager to cast Mahira Khan or Katrina Kaif in the female lead, Raja said that women don't feature prominently in the film. "I think it's a male-dominated film. So casting female actors was not a priority, the priority for me was getting Sanjay Dutt on board."

It's going to be a financial flop Mr Raja, some one is taking you for a ride, this is the stuff that can lead to a heart attack. No one in India wants to see films about cricket and cross border friendship, they want to see Katrina, match fixing, doping scandals and a bit terrorism thrown in.

Rameez should write a book on the topic instead, good money in that option too.
