Mustafizur new icon as BPL starts on November 2

Mustafizur Rahman is the latest addition to the list of icon players for the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier league, BPL’s governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha has announced.

At a press conference, Sinha told reporters about the news. BPL 5 will see the eight franchises compete for the coveted title this year with Sylhet’s return. The franchise had participated in the first three editions of the tournament.

The fourth edition of BPL, won by Dhaka Dynamites saw seven teams participate in the tournament. Besides Dhaka, Khulna Titans, Chittagong Vikings, Rajshahi Kings, Rangpur Riders, Comilla Victorians and Barisal Bulls were all seen in action last year.

With the addition of a new team to the tournament – Mustafizur Rahman became the new icon player and will feature for Sylhet franchise in the upcoming tournament.

The news of Mustafizur’s addition to the list is not surprising given that BPL governing council member secretary IH Mallick had previously said: “In light of his performances, Mustafizur Rahim will be the latest icon.”

The opening ceremony for the upcoming edition of the tournament is scheduled for October 31.

The BPL council had asked the franchises for opinion regarding the ‘five foreign player quota’. The franchises have given a resounding yes to continuing the policy of having five foreign players in the squad.

Will PCB give players NOC? The BPL is probably the least prestigous of the global leagues and risking player injury for 50K USD might not make sense for guys like Amir or Hasan. But it would be good to see those players play in our league.

Which Pakistani players are playing for which teams? Does anyone have a list regarding this?

Player are being paid more than that. Someone like Amir would be paid 80k bare minimum.

Amir, Sarfaraz, Hasan, Babar should skip

Fizz misses Icon-hood as Barisal Bulls excluded from BPL

The governing council of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a franchise-based T20 cricket tournament, has decided not to allow the 2015-16 edition runner-up, Barisal Bulls, to take part in the fifth edition of the professional league this year.

The governing council made the decision as the franchise, Barisal Bulls, failed to abide by the rules and regulations related to financial affairs.

Seven teams will compete in the tournament this year, like the previous year, as a new franchise, Surma Sixers Sylhet, has been included.

Bangladesh’s pace sensation, Mustafizur Rahman, popularly called Fizz, was confirmed to take part in the tournament as ‘Icon Player’ of Barisal Bulls.

What will happen to him now?

BPL governing council member secretary Ismail Haider said, “Mustafiz will not play as an Icon Player. We have been considering whether we can include his name in the players’ draft.”

A few days ago, one of the owners of Barisal Bulls, MA Awal Chowdhury, passed an objectionable comment on Bangladesh’s test team captain, Mushfiqur Rahim.

The players’ draft is scheduled to take place on 16 September.

The fifth BPL tournament is likely to kick off on 2 November.

Buttler set to join Comilla

England wicket-keeper/batsman Jos Buttler has agreed to a contract with Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Comilla Victorians, reported The Guardian yesterday.

They added that the 26-year-old had agreed to a 200,000-pound deal, but added that the deal would be finalised only after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) give their player the green signal.

If he is selected as the reserve wicketkeeper for the Ashes, which will also be held around the time of the BPL in November, then he will be unable to make the trip to Dhaka.

Previously the BPL faced no competitors for its timeframe -- the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Australian Big Bash League and the Caribbean Premier League all had different slots in the calendar, but now there is a conflict with the South African Global T20 League, which will start only two days after the BPL. That has seen players being divided up between the two leagues.

Buttler's England teammate David Willey also has a similar agreement in place with Rangpur Riders.

200000 pounds is a damn good reason for playing in BPL.

Just letting you know Buttler was supposed to play in the inaugural BPL but missed out due to selection in England Lions

BPL Vs National T-20 Cup

Now Pcb postponed the N-t20 cup in November. Some pakistani players already gives commitment to BPL.How will they play in BPL?

They should participate in local league first. But maybe the likes of Afridi will play in BPL

Fakhar Junaid and Afridi for some reason put their names in both BPL and global T20 for some reason. These 3 should make a choice first

There is no way PCB will let the players play in foreign leagues when their own domestic event is taking place especially after sethi has taken over, even though i dont think there is a need for this t-20 with PSL already there....I dont think any other country has 2 domestic league for t-20s. This is denying the players of some decent income which can be earned from these foreign leagues.

BCB should stop scratching their back and actually discuss terms with Pakistan cricket board. Around 20 Pakistani cricketers have been picked by BPL teams

Btw how on earth does BPL pick such random players from WI Pak England.

Who are the players selected?

Chittagong and Sylhet have chosen poor foreign players overall. Others have made decent picks.

Its interesting that almost all of the foreign bowlers to be picked have been Pakistanis

Mustafizur unlikely to take part in BPL

Mustafizur Rahman is unlikely to play any part in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The left-arm pacer suffered a twisted ankle during warm up and was sidelined for the ODI series against the Proteas.

After an assessment of the injury today it was learnt that Mustafizur had suffered a grade two strain.

A grade two strain usually takes about three weeks of recovery time and it is unlikely that the strike bowler would be able to participate in this season’s BPL. Musustafizur was set feature for Rajshahi Kings this season.

Mustafizur had also missed the last edition of the BPL due to a shoulder injury.

The BPL is set to begin on November 4.

After comparing Dhaka vs Chittagong squads, I feel like Chittagong is not even in the game. Its like comparing Platinum with Bronze. I'm rooting for Chittagong due to Misbah and feel sorry they may lose all games :(

Pakistani Players At BPL 2017

I know theres a bpl discussion thread already but it will make it much easier to find out about which pakistani players are in action and how they performed in a seperate thread. So im making this one. Cant any concrete news about which players are actually in action today any confirmations?

I don't think any are there right now because of the domestic tournament. TBH I don't think we will see much participation from Pak cricketers this season as their national duties conflict with BPL.

I guess Pakistani players are not there yet as national T20 cup is gonna start in a week or two and in later part of the month players are gonna be busy with national duty so very difficult for players to play a lot of matches.

Sylhet Sixers vs Dhaka Dynamites, 1st Match

Two spinners from both ends for the first 4 overs in the first match of BPL. :murali

Very professional and honest step by Sarfraz Ahmed to excuse himself from Khulna Titans team [leading him to be released] knowing well he will not be playing the full season.

Not sure if Pakistani players minus Shahid Afridi will play BPL.

PCB has packed the November schedule shows BCB-PCB ties are not very good. Bangladesh Govt. has only worsened ties.

Visually there is'nt much technology in BPL also no spider drone, or other tech.. It has run into telecast issues with Sony Six not showing the matches.

Bore season
Bore league.. where are star players? And worst part is that local talent og ban is pathetic to watch also.. with no international star players.. what waste of time

Will any Pakistani players be in action on Day 2? The four team in action on Day 1 had none.

I don't wanna be waking up at 3 in the morning and find that none of our players are in action. Comilla and Khulna have quite a few named in the squad but not sure if they are participating.

Jos buttler(english)

They changed the rule this year from four foreign players to five.

Why there is no emerging player rule or any similar rule to encourage younger players in BPL? These are same old faces mainly.

Ok they wanted five foreign players to improve the standard of cricket but what about younger players inclusion as lack of opportunities for them in BPL is gonna limit its benifits to Bangladeshi cricket if no new or younger players are gonna play alongside foreign ones.

Khulna Titans have won the toss and have opted to field

Dhaka Dynamites (Playing XI): Evin Lewis, Kumar Sangakkara, Mosaddek Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Kieron Pollard, Jahurul Islam(w), Cameron Delport, Abu Hider Rony, Mohammad Shahid, Sunil Narine, Khaled Ahmed

Khulna Titans (Playing XI): Chadwick Walton(w), Rilee Rossouw, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mahmudullah(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Jofra Chioke Archer, Ariful Haque, Akila Dananjaya, Mosharraf Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Abu Jayed

I hate this attitude. T20 franchise leagues are not developmental leagues. As far as I am concerned the owners can play whoever they want since they paid for their services.

I would have done opposite - block anyone BD U23 from BPL and allow 6, if not 7 foreigners in playing XI. I don't mind even 11, as long as BD players are paid their money for carrying drinks and practice with the set up.

T20 leagues are money making machine - as long as they are spending that in the domestic FC & List A system, no issues. It'll be dooms day if we have to depend on BPL to find talent.

Looks Like schoolboys are playing. Broadcast quality is ridicilous. Alot of improvements needed.

Very very poor production quality.Commentators are boring too, except one with South African accent. He’s good.

Misbah applying the finishing touches to Chittagong's innings... with 31 off 32 balls. :danish

CV 166/4

Quality of cricket and environment good

But production quality is garbage. I think Lahore indoor premier league had better production quality.

Oh and the trio of Aamir Shamim and Athar, enough to put someone in a coma
