Why did you exclude the greatest bowler of modern times, Bumrah?

My top 3 would be:

1. Bumrah
2. Hazlewood
3. Starc

Bumrah, Cummins and Rabada in different league to above mentioned names so not considered. I mean I thought it was obvious.

Test:
Vern > Hazlewood > Johnson > Boult/Shami/Starc > Morkel/Southee

Seems spot on. All of them were poor in alien conditions. It is down to who was more destructive in favourable conditions.

I'd rate Hazlewood/Shami ahead of Vernon who bowled on the spiciest, most tailor made wickets during his time. Johnson and Hazlewood bowled on some of the flattest decks in AUS but neither bowled in as inhospitable conditions as Shami.

Relative to others, Boult, Morne and Starc have a modest away record. But Morne had the luxury of bowling on spiciest tracks at home in the company of Steyn and Vern.

1. Shami/Hazlewood
2. Johnson
3. Vernon/Boult/Starc
4. Morkel

Philander>Hazlewood/Boult > Shami>Morkel>Johnson>Starc/Southee

I will say that Hazlewood has stats that deceive, he got to play 55/70 tests(78.5%) of his tests in Aus/Eng/NZ where he does well. Hasn't played in India for 7 years, SA for 6 years, SL for 8 years, BAN for 7 years etc. Philander in a similar but not as exaggerated boat.

Shami got the other end of the stick, having only played 21/64 tests at home

Think Johnson and Starc should be higher than morkel. They played tough series more.

If not for the spicy pitches he played on for the entirety of his career, Morkel's record would be as bad as Ishant's overall. Forget Steyn, he also fell under Vernon's shadow.
