Recommend me a laptop

This laptop sure does look good, I would definitely buy that. However it's expensive I think.

It's only $799 USD ($1100 NZD) on Amazon.

Really good deal considering the same laptop costs $1800 NZD here in New Zealand.

Best Laptop

Looking for a laptop for everyday use, needs to be fairly slim and light but not the highest priority. Looking for at least i5 processor, 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM, price not much of an issue.

Any recommendations? No Macs please only Windows...

Just bought an acer aspire a quadcore I7 gen 8 with 256 gb ssd for $650 at micro center if you are in the US.

My 16GB ram, 256 GB ssd macbook pro is sometimes not enough for my work as I have to run multiple virtual machines on it. But is far better than laptops meant for ordinary people.

If I had get to get a Windows, I would go for the Microsoft Surface Pro - looks premium, and probably runs slicker than your HPs, Acers, Lenovos, Dells and other mediocrities.

More specifics would probably help.

Need a dual-core or quad-core processor? Screen? Are you looking for a premium product (like a Dell XPS)?

I've been using a MacBook Pro since 2008, and love it.

Would definitely recommend it, and if you need to use windows application just use boot camp.

i5 is not latest.

What would be the use of your laptop? Does it include any of this?
Video Editing
3D Modelling / Rendering
Game or App Development
Parallel Processing / Neural Nets / Artificial Intelligence
3D Gaming (AAA)

also, what should be laptop (screen) size? Smaller than regular, regular or The desktopish large one?

for how long are you planning to keep it?

are you actually going to move it much?

Was going to buy a macbook but they are rip off, i got a HP Envy, known as the macbook pro killer, i7 8th gen, 8 gb, 128gb ssd, 1tb HDD and 4k screen for £1000, the closest Macbook was i7 7gen, 250gb ssd, 8gb for well over £2000, 8th generation and 4k havnt even reached apple yet.

sales are now finished so the next bargains will come on boxing day.

But the ones to look out for are:
- Dell XPS
- HP Spectre (what a sexy machine)
- Lenova Yoga 910
- Asus Zenbook 3 Deluxe

All these weight less than 1,5kg and have great specs

Included none of that, no processor/graphic hungry work needed just day to day browsing, screen size 14 inch+, keepin git 5 years+, will not move it much but would prefer it not to be too bulky, currently have a HP g6 as a comparison

Not too bothered with cores etc, just need something that wont slow to a crawl with average use

Recently got a Dell i7567-5314 gaming laptop as a wedding present!

Although I am not a gamer - it’s i5 7th Gen Quad processor with a 1TB hard disk space won me over :)

15.7 in screen...

If you need a premium product then the likes of Dell XPS and HP Spectre are popular options.

If it's just mainstream laptops then there's a ton of options with the specs you need, really. Try and get something with an IPS display at any rate.

Regarding old laptops, a lot of times they lag and/or become noisy due to dust build-up. If you've had one for many years and it's not been serviced, a simple round of cleaning can make a huge difference.

If power is not an issue then Lenovo Yoga, Dell XPS and HP Specter are fine sleek options out there.
But with low-powered processors, it can get annoying even for simplest of task at times.

If you can afford an expensive one then also have a look at Razer Blade, they've kept a fine balance of power and sleek form factor.

how would you do this

Most people take them to laptop servicing shops - basically the dust needs to be cleared from the fan(s) and surrounding areas.

Can be done manually as well but most laptops have different ways to get to the fans. Some are easy to access while for some, you might need to take the whole thing apart so it's not advisable to do it yourself unless you're familiar with the layout.

I generally open my laptop every few months to do it. Over time it starts heating up more and can lead to throttling so a simple clean job helps a lot.

Also have a family member using an old Toshiba laptop that was really struggling a lot; simple browsing would make the laptop heat up immensely and as a result, the CPU was throttled. A few years of dust build up had gathered in the fans etc.; after cleaning, it was a lot better.

Service + Thermal Paste

My cousin also ordered an Acer swift 5 i5 so may swap with him, will see what we prefer

ye had a look at a few videos and doesnt look that difficult, will probably try it on my old laptop as its not worth much to me.

If you're not fussed about budget then I would target a gaming laptop, tend to perform the best. You could also get yours built from scratch based on the desired specification
