Rehman Malik & Yusuf Raza Gillani & Cynthia Ritchie exchange defamation notices [Post#150]

There should be a full investigation into the claims. However, regardless this does expose the hypocrisy of the so called liberal and left wing community of Pakistan.

Also, this thread completely exposes one PP poster as a hypocrite (although he doesn’t need much exposing).

Do you think ppp will accept the investigation outcome if it comes against them? They would obviously reject it citing PTI conspiracy behind it, just like mamoon here would.

Shouldn’t really matter if PPP accepts it or not. PMLN still hasn’t accepted Calibri was released after 2007.

As long as the truth(whatever it is) comes out to the public that’s all that matters.

Still some questions, but a pretty detailed account of her story.

Thanks for sharing the video. The lady looked very confidient and assured and didn't look nervous at all.

This could mean big trouble for these PPP tops. Let's see.

The lady and all the accused need to be in front of a full JIT which no one can object to if they have nothing to hide.

Yep her story already seems much more authentic than Ayesha Gualali’s.

American blogger and filmmaker Cynthia D Ritchie shared details about the rape allegation she made against former interior minister Rehman Malik and accusations that senior PPP leaders Yousaf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Shahabuddin 'manhandled' her.

Speaking to Shahzad Iqbal during the Geo News programme 'Naya Pakistan', Cynthia said that she fully stands behind her accusations against the PPP leaders.

Cynthia alleged that Malik called her by sending a driver to her place and promised to resolve an issue related to her visa. The US blogger said when she arrived to meet Malik, the gifts of a bouquet, precious mobile phone and a drink were arranged for her.

The drink, Cynthia said, intoxicated her and the next thing she knew, Malik was raping her. She alleged that after the rape, Malik sent her back to her residence with the driver. Cynthia said the former interior minister gave £2,000 to the driver who took her back to her residence. The US blogger said she complained to the US embassy about the incident, but did not get a positive response from them.

Cynthia talks about former prime minister Gilani, Shahabuddin

Talking about former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Cynthia alleged that he gave her an "awkward hug" and former federal minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin tried to touch her without her consent. According to Cynthia, she asked Shahabuddin to stay away from her after that incident.

Talking about her tweet regarding former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, she said it was based on what senior PPP leaders had told her. Cynthia claimed that she met Gilani at the Aiwan-e-Sadr shortly after he was ousted as the country's prime minister.

She said her entry can be checked in the logbooks maintained by the Presidency. Disclosing that there were four other people in the meeting, Cynthia said that when she was about to depart, the former prime minister hugged her awkwardly. According to her, she looked around the room and all the other men looked down as if they had seen nothing.

In response to a question as to why she was coming forth with the allegations after so many years, Cynthia said at the time she was afraid as these were some of the most powerful men in Pakistan. However, she said that the recent tensions between her and the PPP spiked after the US blogger claimed she discovered links between the PPP and the PTM. “It’s not the PPP’s headache on which visa I am working in Pakistan,” she said, when asked on whose authority she was probing links between the two, adding that her agenda is the truth which will come out in court.

Cynthia said she is now able to talk about these incidents as she has developed contacts with people in various political parties such as the PPP, PML-N and also in the PTI. She accused PPP supporters of sending her rape and death threats, saying that even her family had not been spared.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani had reacted to Cynthia's allegations on Sunday, saying that they were a pre-planned plot to malign the political leadership of PPP.

The minister, during his press conference, said, "I would urge all the media channels of Pakistan, that an issue is being created to malign the political leadership of Pakistan."

"You can put it in writing. If we create pomp and show about it, then today it is the PPP, tomorrow it will be another party and then so on. Maybe, those who are blowing trumpets about it, they can also [fall victim to it]," he added.

Ghani warned the federal government by saying that people were aware of the 'activities' of those who were in power. "If they [federal government ministers] think they can be happy over false allegations regarding others, then they will have to face true allegations against themselves. Then they will not be able to rid themselves of it," added Ghani.

In response to a question, he angrily said that Cynthia had not revealed any confidential information about the PPP. "We have forgotten about the locusts, we have forgotten about the coronavirus, we have forgotten about poverty, we have forgotten about unemployment, we have forgotten about the economy. We are running the baseless and false allegations of a woman in our headlines," Ghani had said.

In response to another question, the PPP leader had said that the allegations were being posed by a woman whose own character is dubious.

"At times, she is in Israel, at times in India. In one place one day and another at another day. It will all be revealed to you soon. A foreigner comes here and tries to be more patriotic than you and me. How can it be?" he asked.

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister and senior PPP leader Senator Rehman Malik sent US blogger Cynthia D Ritchie a Rs500mn defamation notice in response to her allegations that he had raped her.

In the legal notice, Malik strongly rejected Cynthia's allegations, saying that this was a fight for Benazir Bhutto's prestige. He said that the slain former prime minister was a leader of the entire country.

In his notice, the former interior minister said that he would expose the faces behind Ritchie's allegations at the appropriate time. Malik said that he was constantly receiving threats of being sent to jail or killed.

The PPP leader said that he had never bowed to pressure before and would not do the same now. Malik said that he did not harbour any grievances against Ritchie and said that he was the citizen of a friendly country.

Ritchie had said in an interview with Naya Pakistan host Shahzad Iqbal that a senior PPP leader had provided her details of the tweet that she had posted about former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The US blogger had said that she would try to prove her allegations against senior PPP leaders in court and would present whatever evidence she had to authorities in Pakistan.

Ritchie had said that she was going nowhere and was ready to face the consequences if her allegations were proven false.

Need a full investigation. Its quite clear that this stuff happens quite often amongst these circles. I have heard of numerous incidents and it is rife in Pakistan amongst a large cadre of the elite and the so called liberal class. I know someone very close to me who went through a situation. I know of another incident of a senior army officer daughter who was raped by a bara baap ka beta and he mocked her by saying you cant do anything to me. A lot of the servants and drivers know whats going on and they should be questioned. I very much believe this is the case with Malik. There are rumours of Zardari doing it too.

lets not pretend this doesnt happen. we all know it does.

An elite drunk on power, money and the feeling of invincibility will do as they please. You can see the resistance to any curtailing of their corruption in their opposition to IK. A horrible, corrupt Judiciary is one of the biggest reasons.

Pakistani politicians are masters at hiding behind the ‘conspiracy’ card and have the skills to get away with any allegation even if it gets proven with solid evidence - they can refute the evidence as being ‘fabricated’ and point at the ‘establishment’ , opposition parties, government, or foreign ‘hand’ as being behind it all.

They have all the lines prepared on this, it’s a tried and tested formula.

And in the end the accuser / victim will become controversialised and have their integrity questioned with help from the media, character assassination and so on - the whole thing becomes a farce and the original allegation becomes diluted with counter allegations , so no one knows what is really going on .. and then it all dies it’s death and everyone moves on to the next controversy.

Yes, many ‘goris’ do not report rape but she is no ordinary gori.

She is an American ISI agent who got raped by a prominent senior politician in Pakistan. What is the excuse/justification for her silence and why is she coming out now?

This is a shocking take, even by your lowly standards

This is a shocking take, even by your lowly standards

You can say whatever you want, but I cannot overlook the plot-holes in her script. I will repeat the questions that I asked on the first page which people have only responded to by resorting to personal attacks.

Firstly, what is an American woman doing in Pakistan that is so important that she is happy to live here in spite of getting raped by a prominent politician? What on earth is her job that an American woman is willing to sacrifice her personal safety in a third world country?

People who don’t report rape usually fall into the following three categories:

(1) they suffer from mental trauma and it takes a long time for them to get their act together and be in a position where they have the confidence to tell the world

(2) they are bread-earners of their family and they have no choice but to keep their jobs. They are victims of their social conditions. This is the number one reason why women often ignore workplace sexual harassment and misappropriate conduct because they have no choice but to sacrifice their self-respect and personal safety for their family’s needs.

(3) they are worried about their reputation. This is especially true in countries like Pakistan, where the victim is defamed for life and the society doesn’t look at her normally again. If she is single, she might not find a husband; if she is married, her husband might divorce her etc.

Unfortunately, our ISI agent does not fall into any of these three broad categories. Perhaps one could make an argument that was suffering from mental trauma until now, but she has not shown any signs of a traumatized person who is not ready to face the world. She has been writing mediocre blogs for years, traveling across the country and regularly hanging out with the top military officials. These are not the actions of a traumatized person.

Secondly, even if we assume that she is the bread-earner of her family, what is so important about whatever she is doing in Pakistan that is forcing her to put her personal safety at risk?

How is an American woman who got raped in Pakistan in 2011 is still not only living in Pakistan, but also traveling extensively across the country. Do you think a regular woman would have the confidence and the courage to travel from north to south in a third world country where she got raped by a prominent politician and is well-known by the political elite of the country?

It is very obvious that she has protection from the ISI which again is understandable since she is an agent.

Thirdly, she was not a position where she had no choice but to keep quiet about what happened. We are talking about an American woman who got raped by a renowned politician in a third world country. And not just an ordinary American woman - an American woman who had access to the top military officials and politicians in the country.

One phone call to the U.S. embassy and it would have made international news and Rehman Malik’s political career would have been in tatters.

Keeping all of that in mind, and regardless of what people here will say about me, I have come to the following conclusions:

(A) She did get raped, but her employers ISI told her to sit on it at the time because PPP was in power and Zardari was on good terms with the military. Now the timing is right to blackmail PPP and not only defame them but extract money as well.

(B) She did not get raped and this is a made-up story by her employers to blackmail PPP.

I am personally leaning towards (A), because I don’t think that even ISI is capable of stooping so low that they would use a fake rape case to get their way, and although Cynthia Ritchie does not have a shred of credibility, I think she would at least have enough self-respect and dignity to not allow herself to be a part of a fake rape case.

As far as the timing of the establishment is concerned, it is everything. Let’s cast our minds back to 2017 and how Nawaz Sharif was conveniently deposed under the pretext of Panama Leaks to install the puppet regime of PTI.

Nawaz did not become corrupt overnight, but the corruption was used by the establishment at a convenient time to get their way. This what they do - they find stuff that they can use against you in the future and they strike when the timing is right. They sat on Nawaz’s corruption and didn’t do anything for years until they decided that the time was right to act.

Imran Khan would suffer the same fate in the foreign funding case. So far, the establishment have turned a blind eye towards those proceedings and have ignored the loopholes in Imran and his sister’s (Aleema Khan) story and they have also ignored how PTI have demanded secrecy in investigations because it is very clear that they have skeletons in the closet.

All of this would be used against Imran Khan when the time is right for the military to remove him.

before I drift further, let me reiterate that this is my take on this whole Cynthia Ritchie scandal. Now you can carry on with your personal attacks and insults if you wish because I have said what I wanted to say until there is any further development.

She is not an ISI agent, it is only Mamoon fabricating things so the corrupt parties are not exposed.

Imran Khan’s supporters usually lose their capacity to think for themselves, but I hope you can try.

How is an American woman who got raped in a third world country like Pakistan by a prominent politician still comfortably living here? What is her job and why is it so important that she is willing to risk her personal safety?

How is an American woman who got raped in a third world country like Pakistan still comfortable enough to the extent that she is willing to travel across the country from north to south? She is either remarkably courageous and gutsy or the nature of her work is very sensitive and she has protection from the ISI.

Maybe a little research will help.
No it was your friends in the PPP. They gave her a job and paid her. It won't be long before you disappear again.

Don’t playing ignorant all the time. You are better than that.

Every incumbent government follows the orders of the military/ISI or they don’t stay in power. In Pakistan, the military is always the central power and the civilian leader is just a public face who is left to deal with administrative decisions while the military control strategic matters, foreign affairs and sensitive issues.

Agents are not recruited by PPP, PMLN or PTI. They are only used as cover and that is what happened here. This is why she was instructed by her employers to sit on her rape case in 2011 because PPP was on good terms with the establishment and the timing was not right. However, the timing is right now that is the motivate for her coming out after 9 years.

So the American women should have locked herself away forever and live in fear. This is the appealing level of your thought processes. Maybe you need to look at how this came out, rather just worshipping the evil PPP. Remember the PPP has a history of killing journalists, opposition politicians and Custom officers. Rape for them isn't a big deal, especially if you are in power and you own the police and judges. The ISI doesn't need to take down the PPP, it's on its last legs with Billo and his murderous thugs.

Regardless; it is fact that she came in PPPs tenure and was on good terms with them.

Sounds similar to the story in the post I told below:

I personally know of an American woman from back in college who was molested (as per her; other Americans in the program say it might have been more) in a study abroad semester in Varanasi in India. It sort of became common knowledge unfortunately and she sought counselling. She was even offered by the college to go public with her story on the news and lodge a formal complaint which at the minimum would have guaranteed tough punishments on the organizers of the program in India. This was during the days when India was already getting bad press internationally due to the rape of the woman on the bus and of a Swedish diplomat. So all the cards were with her and she definitely had more power and influence versus a study abroad program in India.

But she never chose to go public and its been about 7+ years now. Nobody understood it at the time but the #MeToo scandal few years later made me realize how common it is for women not to go public even in situations when you think she has all the cards in her favor. I have lost touch with her but since then but I've seen on Facebook that she has been back to India a few more times for volunteering even though she has such a terrible memory associated with the country.

So I have no qualms in believing that an American woman would stay silent if the assaulter was Interior Minister of a country; even if she herself has access to influential people.

So you are saying that Rehman Malik and the health Minister gave her a job on the recommendation of the ISI and the ISI couldn't find her a paid job themselves. That is got to be the dumbest logic you have ever come up with. And even if that was the case, I am sure Rehman Malik would have said so by now, or does the ISI still control him today. I don't know if she is telling the truth but the way the PPP have attacked her and then ran tells me that they know she is and they are desperate to discredit her. So far everything she has said about the PPP is true, from Billos boyfriend to Shazia Marri marriage.

In any case; she is clearly in the country due to financial gains only and isnt comparable to other vloggers like Mark Weins, Eva Zu Beck and many others who have had encouragement from the government to vlog about Pakistan but arent mouthpieces for propaganda and are reputed in their own right.

She clearly has some very powerful connections and is more than just a ‘vlogger’ that people are making her seem to be.

Every person in these photographs (and there are more) need to explain why they met her, what was discussed and under what circumstances. Her whole business in Pakistan is very, very shady and there is curiously little biodata available on her on the Internet.

It is abundantly clear that she is more than just a random blogger and has access to sensitive information and communicates with people that regular bloggers do not have access to.

How do you think undercover agents are recruited and how do they enter the country? ISI recruited her and they used PPP (the party in so-called power) to get her into the country.

There could be multiple reasons why Rehman Malik is quiet now. There is probably even more dirt on him than what has been revealed.

Yes pretty much. That is the only explanation that I have for why she kept quiet all these years and why she is coming out now all of a sudden. She needs to have convincing answers to these questions to add credibility to her story.

Your example is valid but that person is yet to come out. If she does now, she will no doubt be asked why she didn’t say anything at that time and why she chose to come out now etc.

What would have happened to her had she reported the rape under the PPP or the Nooras?

Her account of what Rahman Malik did does not really have much plot holes. Yes, what she is doing in Pakistan can be questioned but that really does not have much to do with the accusation.

But more importantly, if I understand your theory # A correctly, ISI got this lady recruited into PPP’s health department for what? in hopes that one day a prominent minister will rape her and than they would keep her on the payroll for another 11 years to eventually use this incident.

Talk about far fetched lol

Not that I subscribe to it (I don’t know much about the story) but I think mamoons idea is that infiltrating a political party with an agent who rubs shoulders with the top brass can be valuable in terms of information. Influencing decisions is a cherry on top and blackmail material is a jackpot

All this being said, I think her story shouldn’t be discredited so easily. There will be an investigation in any case — if she is indeed telling the truth, which is more likely than not, then it is a moment of immense courage. Doesn’t matter if ISI is pulling the strings, direct your hate towards them. She’s a pawn with her traumas being leveraged as a weapon as even you say in your option A [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION]

That’s not right

She was hired into the health department which is hardly a department which contains any sensitive information.

It is actually very common for agents/spies to have other jobs as cover, and these jobs are usually low-profile in nature.

For example, Titus Presler, the principal of Edwardes College Peshawar from 2011 to 2013, was later exposed by our security agencies as a CIA agent.

I crossed paths with him a few times because he was appointed as I was about to graduate, and you wouldn’t guess in your wildest dreams that he was working for the CIA.

Bewal, the only comedy here is the laughable assertion that she is just a ‘vlogger’ who happens to be in Pakistan since 2010, has somehow managed to forge links with the leaders of the ruling party as well as the COAS, gets personal invites from Bajwa and is able to access strategic locations and has no problem with traveling across the country after allegedly getting raped by a renowned politician.

It couldn’t be any more obvious that her business in Pakistan is extremely shady and she is more than very likely to be an agent.

Where did you get these pictures, out of curiosity? Apologies if they’re already common knowledge, not really following the news on this story

They are available on social media. They are plenty more as well. This ‘vlogger’ spends half her time hanging out with the armed forces in sensitive locations.

Not at all. She was recruited in the PPP health department as cover just like Titus Presler (CIA agent) was recruited as Edwardes College Peshawar’s principal.

The rape incident is obviously not something that anyone would have foreseen or even planned, but I firmly believe that she decided to sit on it for 9 years and is now coming out on the instructions of her employers (ISI).

Irrespective of her shady business in Pakistan and her lack of credibility, I completely agree that the rape should be investigated and justice should be served. No woman deserves to suffer from the most hideous and disgusting of crimes.

Nevertheless, she and the people that she regularly mingles with have a lot of questions to answer:

In what capacity is she in Pakistan?

What is her visa status and what type of visa is she on? How has she managed to stay in Pakistan since 2010?

If she is just an ordinary vlogger, how did she manage to forge links with leaders of the ruling party and the COAS?

She was allegedly raped by a prominent politician in 2011. How did she muster the courage and the confidence to continue to travel the country from north to south after that? Who is giving her protection?

Furthermore, why would a citizen of the most powerful country in the world continue to live a third world country where her safety and dignity has been violated unless her work is of extremely sensitive nature?

Why did all the leaders in Pakistan - both civilian and military - regularly hang out with her and under what capacity? Furthermore, what was discussed in these meetings?

Why is she allowed to visit sensitive strategic locations and communicate with the forces in person? Let’s assume that she is not an ISI agent. Are our forces and intelligence services not aware of the possibility that she could have links with CIA, Mossad, RAW etc.?

Unfortunately, no one will pose these questions to her in the media because she is after all on ISI’s payroll and her cover will not be publicly blown.

What would have happened to her had she reported the rape under the PPP or the Nooras?

She would have never reported the rate under PPP because at the time, PPP were the party in power and they were on good terms with the establishment.

She wasn’t instructed to report under PMLN because the relationship between PMLN and the establishment was rocky at best during the 2013-2017 tenure and that is why Nawaz was removed on the pretext of Panama Leaks and corruption.

Nawaz did not become corrupt overnight, but the establishment sat on his corruption and used it against him when the timing was right from their perspective.

One of the major driving forces behind Nawaz’s deposition was his reluctance to hand over CPEC contracts to the military, who obviously wanted control of that jackpot and finally got their way when they installed the PTI puppet regime.

It is also important to bear in mind that she came to Pakistan in 2010, traveled across the country, mingled with high profile civil and military leaders and access strategic and sensitive locations at a time when the security situation in Pakistan was at its worst.

This new wave of vloggers in Pakistan is only a recent phenomena when the security situation has improved considerably.

You have to be high as a kite to not believe that her business in Pakistan is not very shady and she does not have any links with security agencies.

ISLAMABAD: The social media controversy that began with Pakistan-based American blogger Cynthia Ritchie’s allegations against former prime minister Benazir Bhutto is turning murkier after rape accusations against former interior minister Rehman Malik and her claims that she had been “investigating” an ethnic organisation.

In a letter addressed to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Ms Ritchie, 44, said she was a “law abiding resident of Pakistan” and had been “investigating PTM (with the assistance of supporting agencies and the military)” for the past couple of years, which led to unearthing of “links of anti-state activities between PTM and PPP”.

The letter seems to have been written by Ms Ritchie to clarify her position after PPP leaders filed a complaint against her with the FIA for maligning Ms Bhutto, who lost her life in a terrorist attack in Rawalpindi in December 2007 while returning from an election rally. Defending her allegation against Ms Bhutto, she contended the accusation did not fall under the ambit of the defamation law.

Her claim about working with the military was not exactly new as she has often in the past bragged about her connection with the security establishment and posted pictures on her social media accounts flaunting the privileged access she enjoyed in the host country.

After rape accusation, she blames PPP for links with anti-state activities

The leaked letter, however, opened floodgates of questions about her activities and their legality, her stay in Pakistan, and her associations.

From the way the controversy has progressed, it is evident that it will become messier in the coming days.

A source in the interior ministry claimed that she was living in Pakistan on a business visa. The Interior Ministry spokesperson was not available for comment because of a family bereavement.

First visit to Pakistan

Ms Ritchie’s first documented visit to Pakistan was in October 2009 and she is believed to have obtained a visit visa from Pakistan’s consulate general in Houston on the recommendation of a relative of federal Minister for Narcotics Control Azam Swati, who at that time had vast businesses in Houston.

“She used to live around Port Arthur area in Texas. An hour’s drive from Houston where Azam Swati has lots of businesses. His son was city councilman there recently and his daughters and grandkids still live there and run his businesses,” a Pakistani American recalled, asking not to be named.

Mr Swati reportedly later helped her socialise in Pakistan and develop local contacts. Interestingly, during her very first visit she met Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders in November 2009. After the meeting, Ms Ritchie had tweeted: “Met leaders of the MQM movement. If you enjoy int’l politics, I would encourage u to read about this party”. The reason for picking MQM for first political engagement in Pakistan remains unclear.

A source in Swati’s family said that she had developed contacts with the minister’s granddaughters in Houston and had expressed her interest in working on social issues in Pakistan. The granddaughters later put her through to Mr Swati. The source said the Swatis, however, distanced themselves from her subsequently.

Ms Ritchie made connections in Pakistan through Houston-based Pakistani expatriates. In this regard, the role of Illinois-based Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America was important, as per the open source material. At least her first two jobs in Pakistan starting October 2010 were at organisations, owned/managed by US-based Pakistani doctors, the Omair-Sana Foundation and Humanity Hope.

She again surfaced on the radar in 2011 around the May 2011 raid by US Special Forces in Abbottabad on OBL hideout when she gave media interviews and indicated her plans for staying in Pakistan for another couple of years. She had then got a two-year work visa. In an interview at that time, she disclosed that she had got a job with the health ministry for training of doctors to become better communicators. It’s not clear how long her contract continued.

Ritchie then cultivated strong links in the PPP government. Her rape allegations against Senator Malik, the then minister, are also from 2011. The allegations have been strongly denied by Senator Malik.

It was in 2012 that she began her transition from her activities in the humanitarian and development sector to media projects and her first announced undertakings were about projecting ‘what Pakistanis are doing for Pakistan’ and positively projecting relations between the US and Pakistan.

She announced a documentary on Kashmir in 2015, which she claims in one of her social media posts, was authorised by the Government of Pakistan. The project was seemingly continuing in 2019.

Ritchie began getting social media fame in 2016 when people started sharing her photos cycling on the streets of Pakistan and mingling with ordinary folks. The country was then still grappling with the terrorism problem and was viewed by foreign media as a dangerous place for foreigners to live. Her activities thus helped her project herself as a Pakistan friend. From there onwards, she posed as a ‘social media influencer’.

Her critics, however, say that she focused all her activities on Pakistan’s domestic audience and did little for promoting the country overseas, where the real work of projecting its soft image needed to be done.

Connections, work

In her letter to the FIA, Ritchie while detailing her activities writes: “have been an active force in promoting Positive Pakistan my entire time in Pakistan, including numerous articles I’ve written in eTribune, The News International, and South Asia Magazine. I’ve worked closely with CTD’s, Female Commandos in KP, Highways and Motorways Police, Military, NACTA”.

She did not mention any foreign publication where she has been published or a foreign TV channel on which she appeared for advocating Pakistan. “I wonder who she is influencing,” said a Pakistani working on public diplomacy.

She launched a documentary titled ‘Emerging Faces: Exploring Pakistan’s Hidden Treasures’. The video was first screened at Pakistan Embassy in Washington in November 2017 at an event titled “Colours of Pakistan”, according to a press release by the embassy at that time. The event, according to the press release, was hosted by Pakistan’s ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry and his wife Najia Ahmad and Cynthia Ritchie was one of the speakers on the occasion.

Lately, she involved in social media fights with opponents of the government earning her many critics.

Ritchie’s career before coming to Pakistan is not well known.

Academic background

She holds a Bachelor degree with a major in Criminal Justice from Louisiana State University and Master of Education with a concentration in Psychology from the same university in 2005. She claims about degrees from Pepperdine University and The George Washington University, but reportedly she got few certifications from these institutes, but not any formal degree.

She did public relations jobs between 2006 and 2009 and later worked briefly at a computer and phone business. Her last known employment in Houston was as a senior official at a Houston-based company offering janitorial services.

She took over as CEO of Kulture Inc. in 2017, but two years later the company’s status was reported as suspended. She also set up another company – ‘A Different Lens Production’ – in 2017, but that too was suspended by authorities in the US sometime in 2019.

Notice issued to police

Meanwhile, a local court issued notice to the Islamabad police on Monday and sought reply on the petition seeking registration of the first information report (FIR) against Ritchie for defaming the slain Pakistani leader and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Another court of the additional district and sessions judge has already issued notice to the cybercrime circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on an identical application filed by PPP’s local leader Raja Shakeel Abbasi.

On Monday, ADSJ Abida Sajjad took up the application filed by Waqas Abbasi and issued notice to the Islamabad police seeking their reply till June 12, adds Malik Asad.

In his application, Mr Abbasi said the FIA had not registered an FIR on his complaint against the blogger who defamed the slain leader of PPP and former prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto.

Meanwhile, Ritchie posted on Twitter her photo in which she is receiving souvenir from Mr Malik. In another tweet, she said: “How accurate are lie detector tests in Pakistan? Would Rehman Malik agree to take one? I certainly would be.”

If Mamoon actually put in the same kind of effort in making Pakistan a better and prosperous place for the future as much as he does in defending the corrupt PML N and PPP mafia, our country would have gone places right now. But alas he chooses to be the Sarfaraz Nawaz of the forum by making controversial posts and getting what he wants ie massive attention and criticism therefore fulfilling his fetish

No surprises here at all.

PPP are a utter disgrace and can stoop to any lengths. Animals are better then these disgusting individuals

One conspiracy after another without a single tangible fact to back it up.
Btw the Panama scandal was a conspiracy to remove NS? I have heard it all. What a crock of ****

But she was given a job by the PPP not by the ISI, and you haven't explained why? I can claim she is a Japanese agent or Korean but I have to show some, any evidence as to why the PPP would appoint her, did the ISI force their hand? By now you have heard from the PPP tell us she is lying, she is a Qadyani, etc but even they are not saying she was forced upon them. So please tell me why the PPP appointed her?

Surely the PPP has to accept the lie detector challenge. Why wouldn't they.

As i said yesterday to you yesterday, you seem to read Noora propaganda and believe them. It would help if you used a little bit of critical thinking, or is that asking for too much.

This thread is a basket of conspiracy theories rather than the thread subject itself.

In my opinion, the only subject that matters at this point is the accusation of rape. This accusation should be tested through courts rather than holding a media trial with conspiracy theories flying about.

Justice should be served. if the accusations are true, Rehman Malik should be held accountable and dealt with under criminal law. If accusations are false, Cynthia should be charged under criminal law and serve prison sentence too.

Everything else is smoke to the real matter at hand and this smoke should be avoided.

Not at all. She was recruited in the PPP health department as cover just like Titus Presler (CIA agent) was recruited as Edwardes College Peshawar’s principal.

The problem is everything you are saying is mere speculation. The ISI/CIA theory stems primarily from her skin colour. Nothing really concrete to back it up. IF she is an agent, she must be a pretty bad one as most of her movements within Pakistan and her connections are openly documented on social media.

The fact of the matter is her background doesn’t matter as the accusation is that a sitting minister in power raped her. That crime doesn’t not become any smaller because of her background.

What is clear to see here is that you are applying a much different standard here than you applied in the case of Gulali. Even though the depiction of events in this case are a lot more plausible and the allegation is a lot more serious.

He said backing AG was fine because he doesn't like IK and obviously that IK guilty. With the PPP there is a world wide to conspiracy to bring someone down who has been out of power for 7 years.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted its reply in court on Tuesday after a petitioner had claimed that the agency was not taking action against the US blogger for her unsavoury remarks against former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani in Islamabad heard the case as a duty judge. The petitioner said that the FIA is not taking action on a complaint filed against Ritchie for slandering PPP leader Benazir Bhutto on social media.

The court issued a notice to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and a reply has been sought from the authority on the matter till June 13.

Talking to media, the counsel for the petitioner said that the FIA has agreed to register the case against Ritchie. The court said that they also issued notices to the US blogger and demanded an answer on her allegations against the slain PPP leader, Benazir Bhutto.

Ritchie's tweet about the late Benazir had prompted a war of words between her and PPP supporters and party leaders on social media a few days ago. On Friday, she made headlines after an explosive statement in which she accused former interior minister Rehman Malik of raping her.

Ritchie's letter to FIA
Meanwhile, contents of a letter Ritchie wrote to the FIA after a complaint was filed against her by the PPP, emerged a few days later.

"I am a freelancer and pay taxes to FBR and report my income to IRS in USA. I am not on government payroll. I take projects (such as KP Dept of Archaeology/Engro/and some cleared NGOS) as matters of personal and professional interest," she wrote, adding that she has been in Pakistan for "10+ years".

She said she has been working on an "investigative film".

"To be fair, I've wanted to do a documentary on Bilawal as a potential future leader. I have no interest in fighting PPP," Ritchie said.

Last week, the PPP advocate had moved a complaint with the FIA's cybercrime wing against Ritchie for her "slanderous" remarks against late party leader Benazir Bhutto.

"Through this application, it is brought to your notice that a woman, who goes by the name of Cynthia D Ritchie on Twitter has passed extremely derogatory and slanderous remarks about Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, through her Twitter handle/account," the letter dated May 28 read.

"Her remarks being false, untrue, defamating and slanderous as they are, have caused immense pain and agony to the millions across Pakistan who revere and hold Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in high esteem," it said.

"Your office is requested to take immediate action and initiate proceedings against this woman as prescribed by the law and under your mandate. A photocopy of the tweet, a true portrayal of her sick and disgusting mind is attached with the application," the letter added.

Malik, PPP leaders deny accusations
Former interior minister Malik has vehemently denied the rape accusation, terming it "baseless, shameful, and inappropriate".

The PPP leader’s spokesman, in a statement, said that the purpose behind the US blogger’s allegations was to damage the reputation of Malik.

“The US woman made the inappropriate allegations against Rehman Malik upon the instigation of a certain individual or a group,” said the spokesman on behalf of the former interior minister.

Gillani, too, had flatly denied the allegations.

"Can a prime minister ever commit such an act at the Aiwan-e-Sadr?"

"What was the lady levelling such accusations doing at the Aiwan-e-Sadr?" he had said, adding: "Who gave her the right to accuse politicians like this?"

He had said that responding to such statements would be "contemptuous".

He noted that Ritchie had recently levelled several accusations at former Pakistani prime minister and late party leader Benazir Bhutto and "no one can tolerate such accusations".

"I am not worried about what was said about me. I am more concerned about the baseless accusations levelled at Shaheed Benazir," Gillani had said.

PPP Senator Rehman Malik, who has been accused of rape by American blogger Cynthia Ritchie, has couriered her a second defamation notice worth Rs50 billion, a statement by Malik's spokesperson said on Tuesday.

A Rs500 million defamation notice was sent a day prior in response to Ritchie's allegations against the former interior minister.

Today's notice was sent in connection with the US blogger's appearance on various news channels on Sunday and "levelling baseless allegations" against the senator on air.

"Cynthia Ritchie's accusations are a pack of lies. I strongly reject them," said Malik.

"[She] levelled undue and baseless allegations on television programmes," he added.

"I will have her answer for her lies in court," Malik vowed.

Ritchie's claims on TV regarding Bhutto tweet

The feud seemed to have begun with Ritchie's "slanderous" remarks against late PPP leader Benazir Bhutto, but what the blogger claims likely stem from "dirt" she has on the party.

Ritchie, in a Geo News interview with "Naya Pakistan" host Shahzad Iqbal said a PPP leader provided her information on Benazir Bhutto based on which she had posted the tweet.

She said that she would prove her allegations against senior PPP leaders in court and would present whatever evidence she had to authorities in Pakistan.

Ritchie said that she was "going nowhere" and was ready to face the consequences if her allegations were proven false.

First notice

In the first legal notice, Malik strongly rejected Ritchie's allegations, saying that the entire episode was a fight for Benazir Bhutto's prestige. He paid tribute to Bhutto by saying that the slain former prime minister was considered a leader of impeccable repute by the entire country.

The former interior minister, in the notice, said that he would expose the faces behind Ritchie's allegations at the appropriate time. Malik claimed that he was constantly receiving threats of being sent to jail or killed.

The PPP leader said that he had never bowed to pressure before and would not do the same now. Malik said that he did not harbour any grievances against Ritchie and said that she was the citizen of a friendly country.

PPP-Ritchie online spat takes dark turn

The ongoing social media spat between Ritchie and various PPP leaders took a dark turn on Friday after Ritchie took to Facebook to level several serious allegations against the party's senior leadership.

In a video broadcast live on Facebook, Ritchie alleged that then interior minister Malik had raped her while former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and then health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin had "manhandled" her at separate occasions.

She stated that the incidents occurred in 2011 when the PPP was in power.

Besides Malik, Gillani too, has flatly denied the accusations and said he will pursue legal action against Ritchie.

Lol at these defamation notices worth Rs 500 million and Rs 50 billion. Doesn't the individual have to prove that his reputation is worth that much or close to it in the first place?

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investi*ga*tion Agency (FIA) on Tuesday opposed a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against US blogger Cynthia D. Ritchie and requested the district and sessions court to dismiss it accordingly since the petitioner, a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was not an aggrieved person in the matter.

PPP’s Islamabad president Advocate Raja Shakeel Abbasi had filed the petition before Additional District and Sessions Judge Atta Rabbani under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code, seeking registration of an FIR against Ms Ritchie for allegedly defaming the slain PPP chairperson and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on social media.

The court issued a notice to Ms Ritchie, asking her to appear before it on June 13.

Last week, the court had issued a notice to the FIA on the petition.

FIA cybercrime circle’s assistant director Adnan Ahmad Khan Lohani submitted a reply to the petition. It stated: “On June 2 when the complainant appeared in the office of the Cybercrime Reporting Centre, Islamabad, in connection with verification of his complaint, he was explained that under the law, he has no locus standi [right of audience] to become complainant in the mater for invoking the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act [Peca] 2016.”

Court directs Cynthia Ritchie to appear before it on June 13 on petition filed by local PPP leader

The FIA official said Section 20 of Peca specifically made it clear that “whoever intentionally and publically exhibits or displays or transmits any information through any information system, which he knows to be false, and intimidates or harms the reputation or privacy of the natural person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine [which] may extend to one million rupees or with both”.

The FIA reply stated that subsection 2 of the Section 20 made it clear that “any aggrieved person or his guardian, where such person is a minor, may apply to the authority for removal, destruction of or blocking access to such information”.

It said that “bare reading of the law would reveal that only an aggrieved neutral person or his guardian can lodge a complaint. The right provided in subsection (2) to the aggrieved person or his guardian, in case the aggrieved person is a minor for applying the authority for removal of contents further substantiate that in the case under discussion, law can be set in motion only on the complaint of either an aggrieved ‘natural person’ or his guardian”.

Subsequently, the FIA requested “that the instant petition may be dismissed”.

The court directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to submit comments by June 13 when it would take up the matter again.

After the court’s proceedings, Cynthia Ritchie tweeted: “My actions don’t fall within the ambit of cyber crimes. I have the right to express my opinion...My lawyer, Nasir Azeem Khan, Advocate High Court will appear in Islamabad District Court on given date.”

In his petition, Advocate Abbasi said the FIA did not register an FIR on his complaint against the blogger who defamed the slain Benazir Bhutto.

In the complaint, Mr Abbasi urged the FIA’s cybercrime cell to take action against Ms Ritchie for posting on her Twitter acco*unt what he described as derogatory and slanderous remarks about Benazir Bhutto.

The complainant said Ms Ritchie had in her tweet passed extremely derogatory and slanderous remarks about Benazir Bhutto. “Her remarks being false, untrue, defamatory and slanderous as they are, have caused immense pain and agony to the millions across Pakistan who revere and hold Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in high esteem,” he added.

“Your office is requested to take immediate action and initiate proceedings against this woman as prescribed by the law and under your mandate,” the complaint stated.

Another defamation notice

As Pakistan-based US blogger Cynthia Ritchie steps up a campaign against top PPP leaders, repeating serious allegations against them in TV talk shows with more details, senior PPP leader and former interior minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday sent another defamation notice to her.

In the notice sent through his counsel Rehman Bajwa, Senator Malik demands Ms Ritchie to pay Rs50 billion in damages, besides asking her to withdraw the allegations and tender an unqualified apology, failing which civil and criminal proceedings will be initiated against her in a court of competent jurisdiction.

The PPP leader strongly rejected all allegations against him and termed those a pack of lies to damage his national and international reputation which he has earned after tireless struggle for decades as investigator, politician, parliamentarian, former interior minister and author of three books and hundreds of articles published in national and international media. He said he considered it bellow his dignity to respond to the baseless and malicious allegations leveled against him by a foreigner, adding that he would take her to the court with her pack of lies to face the law.

Senator Malik said that running of such highly defamatory interviews on private TV channels were against the Pemra (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) rules and “our national ethics”. He has asked the TV channels to refrain from telecasting defamatory interviews and news against him.

The trigger for Cynthia was the PPP free speech loving liberal left internet trolls who claimed to her sister that they were her long lost step-sister using a fake ID to dig up personal family info from her real sister and leak it on social media.

ISLAMABAD: Two days after former interior minister and senior PPP leader Rehman Malik demanded that the name of Cynthia D. Ritchie be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), the American blogger has alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party is trying to get her deported.

The US blogger on Wednesday tweeted: “Since #PPP is trying to have me deported, I request @pid.gov to place me on #ECL. So I can fight this battle. I’m not going anywhere. My vacations can wait. Chalo!”

However, hours later, she shared a confidential document, dated June 8, 2020, about the directive given for putting her name on the no-fly list to ensure her presence before the relevant authorities and courts of law, and tweeted: “‘Confidential’… If true, I don’t have to worry about filing for extension, now.”

She also raised the questions of security of former prime minister and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27, 2007. In one of her tweets, the American blogger said: “I saw bad things from Blackwater operatives & I formally complained to US Ambassador @MunterCameron at the time. Journos should ask when/who authorized/facilitated Blackwater’s presence in Pak? Zardari? Rehman Malik? Why did BB request Blackwater’s protection?”

Senator Malik wants US blogger’s name put on no-fly list

She further said: “Why inadequate security the day of BB’s assassination? Of all the people in PPP who were in positions of power at the time of BB’s death Zardari, Rehman Malik “security advisor”, former Amb Hussain Haqqani then [MENTION=2174]sherry[/MENTION]rehman ... who is still alive? How did they benefit?”

In another series of tweets, the American blogger said prime minister’s adviser Babar Awan, besides Mr Malik, had shared the blame for the security lapses. She tweeted: “Thank you to PPP/BB loyalists who shared information with me: ‘The former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was left to the mercy of her assassins by her security chief who abandoned her in the minutes before her death, a key witness has told the United Nations inquiry into her death. Chaudhry Mohummad Aslam, one of Ms Bhutto’s protocol officers who was guarding her vehicle when she was shot, said that Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik and current law minister Babar Awan were to blame for security lapses which allowed her killers to strike.’”

Earlier, Rehman Malik, who is also chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, had demanded that the US blogger be placed on the ECL and asked the interior secretary, Islamabad police chief and chief commissioner to provide her foolproof security during her stay in Pakistan as apprehensions had been expressed in a TV show about her safety.

The chairman also transferred the suo motu notice proceedings regard-ing her highly defamatory tweets about Benazir Bhutto to the Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunication.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Senator Malik said the PPP leader had not yet responded to Ms Ritchie on her defamatory tweets and not passed any derogatory remarks against her in reaction.

Mr Malik has said he considers it below his dignity to respond to such allegations as he believes in getting justice through court of law for which he has already served two notices on her.

So basically Rehman Malik raped her and just sent her home without worrying about the consequences.

She reported it to us embassy and they did jack **** about it

After dam fund and corona fund, we now have Cynthia fund.

She has set up an account where will people are supposed to donate her money so that she can cover the legal costs of her battle with PPP.

Now some emotional and gullible fools will give her their money so that she can take it and go back to the U.S.

Former prime minister and PPP stalwart Yousaf Raza Gillani on Wednesday sent a defamation notice to Pakistan-based American blogger Cynthia Ritchie, who has accused him of "manhandling" her while he was "staying at the President's House".

The notice, sent through his lawyer, says she will be liable to pay Rs100 million for her defamatory allegations.

Ritchie had made the explosive claims on June 5, in a video broadcast live on Facebook.

She had then also accused former interior minister Rehman Malik of raping her and of the then health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin of also "manhandling" her, saying that the incidents occurred in 2011 when the PPP was in power.

Furthermore, she has claimed she, as well as her sisters, have been harassed online by various PPP members and supporters.

Gillani responds
Responding to the allegations against him, former premier Gillani asked: "Can a prime minister ever commit such an act at the Aiwan-e-Sadr?"

"What was the lady levelling such accusations doing at the Aiwan-e-Sadr?" he continued, adding: "Who gave her the right to accuse politicians like this?"

He said responding to such statements would be "disgraceful".

Gillani said that he may have gone to the Aiwan-e-Sadr to meet the president or a delegation.

The former prime minister said that Ritchie "should be ashamed of herself for saying such things".

He noted that Ritchie had recently levelled several accusations at former Pakistani prime minister and late party leader Benazir Bhutto and "no one can tolerate such accusations".

"I am not worried about what was said about me. I am more concerned about the baseless accusations levelled at Shaheed Benazir."

"Ali Haider Gillani and Ali Qasim have approached the court in this regard," he said.

Later, in a conversation with Geo News, the former premier said that he had met Ritchie a while back at a diplomat's residence and had met her subsequently on various occasions in large gatherings.

"I am not aware of her background. She contacted my son Ali Qadir Gillani a while back. She told my son his father is an honourable man and he should inquire after me on her behalf."

Online spat turns dark
The feud seemed to have begun with Ritchie's "slanderous" remarks on Twitter against late PPP leader Benazir Bhutto, but what the blogger claims likely stem from "dirt" she has on the party.

PPP has filed a complaint with the FIA for Ritchie's tweet and claims Ritchie's accusations against party leaders are in response to that.

Ritchie, in a Geo News interview with "Naya Pakistan" host Shahzad Iqbal claimed a PPP leader provided her information on Benazir Bhutto based on which she had posted the tweet.

She said that she would prove her allegations against senior PPP leaders in court and would present whatever evidence she had to authorities in Pakistan.

Ritchie said that she was "going nowhere" and was ready to face the consequences if her allegations were proven false.

If the current government provides her with legal counsel and bears her legal expenses, would you then say that this is PTI's saazish against PPP?

Also going by your storyline. In your opinion is Rehman Malik a culprit and should be sentenced under criminal law?

If the current government provides her with legal counsel and bears her legal expenses, would you then say that this is PTI's saazish against PPP?

Also going by your storyline. In your opinion is Rehman Malik a culprit and should be sentenced under criminal law?

The current government should remain impartial (at least give the impression) and not cover the legal costs. It is not their business.

I don’t know if Rehman Malik is a culprit or not. Sexual harassment is a real problem especially in political circles of Pakistan but there is also great potential for misuse.

Furthermore, there have been several cases of false accusations against PMLN/PPP in order to defame them, so we have to take this allegations with a pinch of salt unless proven otherwise.

Another problem is that Cynthia Ritchie does not have an ounce of credibility and that is why I urge the public to not act like fools and not donate her any money.

There is no moral duty on the nation to cover the legal costs of her case. She is exploiting the anti-PPP narrative in order to milk the public for money.

If she would have been raped by someone who is now in PTI, she wouldn’t have set up this fund because it would have been difficult for her to milk the public.

Finally, the shady nature of her work in Pakistan and her mingling with the political and military leadership needs to be investigated independent of this rape case.

US blogger Cynthia Ritchie sent former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani a legal notice of Rs120mn in which she threatened to take legal action against him unless he tendered an apology, on Thursday.

Ritchie sent the notice through her counsel Nasir Azeem Khan Advocate, in which she stated that Gilani had harassed her and damaged her reputation by making false accusations.

She alleged that the former prime minister had harassed her "in connivance" with ex-interior minister Rehman Malik 2011. The legal notice accused the PPP media cell of harassing Ritchie on social media as well.

Saying that she was defamed locally and internationally, the US blogger called on Gilani to apologise to her. Ritchie warned that in case the PPP leader did not apologise for levelling allegations against her within 14 days, she would initiate legal action against him.

Ritchie made headlines when she accused former interior minister Rehman Malik of raping her in 2011, during a video broadcast live on Facebook.

She also accused then health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin of "manhandling" her, whiel saying that Gilani had given her an awkward hug, stating that the incidents occurred in 2011 when the PPP was in power.

Gilani had also sent a defamation notice of Rs100 million to Ritchie after she went public with accusations against him. The legal notice was sent to the US citizen through Gilani's lawyers who asked her to respond within 14 days.

Malik, Gilani and Shahbuddin have categorically rejected Ritchie's allegations.

After the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Islamabad Police too refused to register a case against American national Cynthia Ritchie but shifted the responsibility back to the country’s top crime investigating agency, saying the matter fell in its domain.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the Banigala Police Station officials told a local court on Friday that the application for registering the case should be disposed of. It had been revealed after reading the application filed by Waqas Ahmed Abbasi on June 1 that the issue was related the Cybercrime Wing of FIA, the police argued.

Earlier, Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry heard the petition, seeking registration of case against Cynthia, as she asked the police file a response. As the police argued that the issue was related to the FIA Cybercrime Wing, the court sought a detailed reply from the police.

The police had stated in the reply that the allegation [against the slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto] was levelled on social media, which did not fall under their authority. However, the petitioner’s counsel, Chaudhry Zahid Asif, rejected the explanation and argued before the court that the Pakistan Penal Code sections were applicable to the application. The police could register the case but were only fabricating excuses, he added.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till June 17 as it sought a detailed reply from the police on the issue. Cynthia Dawn Ritchie had taken Pakistan’s political scene by storm as her ‘revelations’ have put Pakistan People’s Party’s leadership in an embarrassing situation. The allegations of rape and sexual harassment against the PPP top brass by a foreign woman is a bit unusual and if Cynthia got support from the famous ‘Me Too’ campaign around the world, it would be very difficult for many big names to survive.

ISLAMABAD. Additional District and Sessions Judge (ASJ) Jahangir Awan on Saturday reserved judgment on an application seeking a case against US blogger Cynthia Ritchie who has levelled harassment allegations against the PPP leadership, reported The News.

During the hearing yesterday, Ritchie’s lawyer asked the court not to file a case. The court had reserved its judgment until June 15.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have requested the court to dismiss the plea against the US blogger.

The FIA told the court that the petitioner was not the targeted victim or guardian of the victim so the agency could not lodge a complain. On the other hand, the counsel for the petitioner argued that due to the nature of tweets, the PPP was the aggrieved party.

To this, the court asked why the heirs of late Benazir Bhutto were not lodging a complain.

The petitioner – PPP Islamabad President Shakeel Abbasi – took the position that Ritchie had made baseless allegations against ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and a case should be registered against her.

In her video message earlier this month, Ritchie had accused senior PPP leader Senator Rehman Malik of abusing her and said that the incident happened in 2011 when Malik was interior minister.

She also claimed that former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin had also abused her, while former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani shook hands with him while he was in the Presidency.

To this, the court asked why the heirs of late Benazir Bhutto were not lodging a complaint.

In her video message earlier this month, Ritchie had accused senior PPP leader Senator Rehman Malik of abusing her and said that the incident happened in 2011 when Malik was interior minister.

She had also claimed that former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin had also abused her, while former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani shook hands with him while he was in the Presidency.

US blogger Cynthia Richie moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday in a bid to stop the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from registering a case against her.

In her petition, Ritchie had said that the FIA should be stopped from filing a case against her as she had not committed any crime.

On Monday, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ASJ) Jahangir Awan had directed the FIA to register a case against Ritchie, who has levelled harassment allegations against the PPP leadership after a public spat with the party.

The petitioner, PPP Islamabad President Shakeel Abbasi on Saturday had filed a petition stating that Ritchie had made baseless allegations against ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto and a case should be registered against her.

In its two-page verdict, the court had said the US blogger had not denied that she created this tweet on social media.

In a video broadcast live on Facebook, Ritchie had alleged that one of the party's senior members had raped her while two others had "manhandled" her at a separate occasion.

She had stated that the incidents occurred in 2011 when the PPP was in power, and when the individual she accused of rape had been a senior minister. Geo News has attempted to reach out to the accused for comment but received no response so far.

Ritchie had further alleged that two other senior party leaders — a federal minister and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani (who has publicly responded to the allegation) — had "physically manhandled" her when the latter "was staying the President House".

In a subsequent textual post on Facebook, Ritchie had said that the alleged rape incident had occurred at the accused's residence in Islamabad's Minister's Enclave in 2011, "around the [time of the] OBL (Osama Bin Laden) incident".

"I thought it was a meeting about my visa but I was given flowers [and] a drugged drink," she claimed, adding that she had "kept quiet" about the incident because "who in the [ruling government] would help me against the [accused minister]?"

However, she said she did tell someone about the incident at the US Embassy in 2011, but "due to 'fluid' situation and 'complex' relations" between Washington and Islamabad, she said the response "was less than adequate".

PPP moves FIA against Ritchie over 'slanderous' remarks

Earlier, the PPP had requested the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Cyber crime Wing to take immediate action and initiate proceedings against Cynthia D. Ritchie for "extremely derogatory and slanderous remarks" regarding Benazir Bhutto.

Any allegation of rape or sexual assault must be investigated and if true, this is yet another black mark on Rehman Malik who was arguably the worst Interior Minister of recent times.

However, reading into Cynthia Ritchie's background, honestly she comes across as a blatant spy and on someone's payroll.

Come on, how many vloggers come to Pakistan and gets involved in internal politics like Ritchie has ? She claims to "expose the anti-state activity between PTM and PPP" - firstly it's no coincidence these are two parties the security establishment have never been on friendly terms with. Secondly, any random vlogger will not receive invitations to functions by senior military and political leadership. Thirdly, which vlogger uses such language ?!

I despite Malik and PPP as much as the next person, but I can still call a spade a spade which sadly not many do online as they are blinded by partisanship.

ISLAMABAD: US blogger Cynthia D. Ritchie on Thursday filed an appeal against the directive of a court to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to proceed against her in connection with the case of defaming former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on social media.

On June 15, additional district and sessions judge Mohammad Jahangir Awan had on a petition filed by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Raja Shakeel Abbasi directed the FIA to register a criminal case against Ms Ritchie.

Advocate Imran Feroz Malik, counsel for Ms Ritchie, filed the appeal against the judge’s order before the Islamabad High Court.

He contended in the petition that the sessions judge “has ignored the fact that under the FIA laws, registration of an FIR is not mandatory, it’s always subject to the result of an inquiry, and the FIA has been vested with the power to refuse to register the FIR if during inquiry the information is found to be false, hence an order directing the FIA to register FIR is otherwise against the express provisions of law, hence it is liable to be set aside.”

Mr Malik pointed out that the FIA had initially “discarded [the complaint] on the ground of locus standi [right of audience] as the complainant was not an aggrieved person within the meaning of Prevention of Cyber Crime Act, 2016”, adding that even then the sessions judge directed the FIA to proceed with the registration of an FIR.

Complainant Abbasi had taken the stance before the sessions judge that since Ms Ritchie “passed extremely derogatory remarks” against Ms Bhutto, the FIA did not entertain his application seeking registration of an FIR against the blogger.

I completely agree. The rape accusations should not be brushed under the carpet but he presence in Pakistan should still be questioned.

You have to be high as a kite to not be convinced that she is an agent or a spy.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police refused to register a case against US citizen and blogger Cynthia Dawn Ritchie, who has accused the top PPP leadership of rape and harassment.

A report was forwarded from the Bani Gala police station to the additional sessions judge’s court in this regard. PPP leader Waqas Abbasi had submitted the plea against Ritchie for making inappropriate claims about former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in her tweets.

In the petition, it was mentioned that the US citizen posted defamatory tweets.

Police said that if any action is required against Ritchie, then the Federal Investigation Agency should be consulted.

The court then summoned final arguments from both sides in the next hearing and adjourned the case until June 24.

Earlier, police had dismissed the case filed by Ritchie against Senator Rehman Malik over lack of evidence.

On Thursday, Cynthia Richie had moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a bid to stop the FIA from registering a case against her.

Under the circumstances, the application is hereby accepted and FIA is directed to proceed in accordance with law, conduct on inquiry and if there is sufficient material register an FIR," the order read.

So she is an ISI agent who is taking selfies with them. The ISI must be getting soft.
