Pakistan to come up with new quality based central contracts

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to design its new central contracts keeping in mind next year's World Cup and will lay emphasis on quality rather than quantity.

Reliable sources in the PCB told PTI on Tuesday that the Board is planning to reduce the number of players in the new central contracts from 35 to 25.

"Last year 35 players got central contracts in different categories but this year discussions have been held on giving fewer players contracts but raising their monthly salaries and other perks in the contracts," a PCB official said.

The official said that the PCB was contemplating increasing monthly retainers and also fees for Test matches.

He said that head coach Mickey Arthur will join chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and two Board officials, Haroon Rasheed and Mudassar Nazar in finalising the list of players to be given the new contracts.
"These people will also recommend to the Board how many players should get contracts and how much raise should be given to them," the official added.

He said the head coach wanted the PCB to give contracts to those players who would be in a pool of players to be finalised for the World Cup pretty soon.

"The stress this year is on the preparations for the World Cup and players who are likely to serve Pakistan well in the mega event," he said.

"The increase in the contractual salaries is being contemplated to keep the contracted players away from the mushrooming foreign T20 leagues so that their cricket careers are extended."

He said the new contracts would be from July 1 for a period of 12 months as the existing contracts expire at end of June.

Players, who don't get central contracts, will be able to take part in foreign T20 leagues to increase their earnings but will have to seek NOCs from the same committee that includes Arthur, Inzamam and the two PCB officials.

The PCB recently announced it would allow its contracted players to take part in only two leagues in a year including the PSL.

Smart move.

Reduce quantity, increase quality.

More competition for fewer central contracts is a good thing imo.

Plus, I don't care for the Hafeezs, Akmals, etc. going to CPL, BPL, BBL and all.
Preventing the candidates who are likely to represent Pak in WC2019 is a wiser move.

This is very good idea we need to preserve our quality player from league around the world but also need financail support so they have no complain.

Contracting 35 players was always a dumb idea. PCB sometimes makes poor decisions and then corrects them a few years later.

I hope PCB will not select players like Shehzad, Hafeez, Akmal, Gul.... in that list

Shezzy will get A+ contract and become Opener for at least 75 more ODIs and T20s. He will score a 50 against AFG and will continue to start in every game no questions asked.

The PCB needs to compensate the centrally contracted players for leagues they turn down, it will prevent resentment.

KARACHI : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will finalise the list of centrally contracted players towards the end of this week, before the team’s tour to Zimbabwe.

Despite the fact that the current set of contracts will expire on June 30, the PCB is yet to reach a decision regarding players who will be under board’s payroll for the next term.

It is expected that the PCB will arrive at a decision after consultation between Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq, Head Coach Mickey Arthur and other board officials before Pakistan team leaves for Zimbabwe.
PCB steps up efforts to normalise ties with Emirates Cricket Board

According to sources, the board is contemplating a new line of approach which could see less centrally contracted players than before but with a higher pay grade.

Last year, the PCB awarded central contracts to 35 players—which was an increase of seven as compared to 2016.

The contracts are split into four categories with players in the A-group receiving the highest amount of money.

Pakistan cricketers will gather in Lahore for a brief training camp— beginning on June 25— in order to prepare for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

The squad will be named after assessing the rehabilitation process of injured players such as pacer Rumman Raees, right-handed batsman Babar Azam and all-rounder Imad Wasim.

Meanwhile a plan will also be chalked out for fast bowler Mohammad Amir with regards how to manage his work-rate.

The selected members of the squad will leave for Zimbabwe on June 28.

Lol why Mohd Amir only? What would about others like Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Usman Shinwari? Shouldn't there workloads be managed either?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be reducing the number of central contracts of players with an aim to improve players' superiority instead of their numbers.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jun, 2018 ) :The pakistan cricket Board (PCB) will be reducing the number of central contracts of players with an aim to improve players' superiority instead of their numbers.

Talking to APP, a PCB official said board wants to reduce the central contracts from 35 to 25 or 24. "PCB had awarded central contracts to 35 players last year which also included a stipend category," he said.

The official said the board is thinking to remove the stipend category and include the best performing players from this category to A, B and C categories," he said. "The amount the players are getting for their respective categories won't be reduced but instead increased."He said PCB wants to build a formidable pool of players for the 2019 World Cup to be held in England and Wales, from May 30.

"Therefore PCB wants to award central contracts only to the best performing players who can represent the country in the World Cup," he said.

And we will see Azhar, Shafiq, Hafeez in A category. All hype talk but zero application.

PCB should introduce senior quota since they are unstoppable and award them a good salary instead of making mockery of "Quality base Central Contract" talk.

I'm guessing Hafeez is on a higher tier contract than Babar Azam, and most likely Ahmad Sehzad higher than Fakhar Zaman - makes sense , after all they are seniors and proven performers.

Central contracts need to be revised not just by who get them but how they are granted. Idk the exact formula but they need to factor in match winning efforts.

For example

The fifteen runs scored by Wahab were more important than all the centuries combined that were scored by Pakistani batsmen against the Australia series in UAE.

The Pak team should go out to win and that's how the contracts should be worked out. No point in creating a system where batsmen know that if they plod their way to a hundred and help team lose a very winnable match, they would be given extra money just because they scored a ton.

Fakhar doesnt deserve A. Sarfaraz and Hasan deserve C or lower

Given our performances so far, performance based contracts for LOI players:

A+:
Babar, Haris Sohail

A:
Amir, Imad Wasim

B+:
Fakhar (good last year or so), Hafeez, Shadab

B:
Shaheen, Wahab, Shinwari, Rizwan

C:
Sarfaraz, Imam, Hasan Ali, Hasnain, Faheem, Junaid Khan, Abid Ali

D:
Umar Akmal, Asif Ali

No contracts:
Rumman, Sahibzada, Hussain Talat (way below par last year).

Of test players, M Abbas (A+), Yasir Shah (A), Shan Masood (B+), Azhar (B), Asad Shafiq (C)

Agree with this post. too many selfish players who play for averages and not for wins.
Players often do this so they can float their inflated averages in the media and run campaigns to get in the side. This has worked for many players over the years.

The likes of Hafeez, Malik and Wahab won't be amongst the new contracts so I suppose they'll include some youngsters [I hope anyway] and obviously give them a lower grade to start off with.

It's time to fix the grading system and people like Imam/Fakhar etc don't need to be that high up either as neither has proven their worth in the WC thus far.

Very good I hope this is true treat them like royality is they deserve to.

It will be great for Pakistan cricket if playing for Pakistan would be the best thing happen to them.
