The Pakistan Cricket Board has already lined up a role for legendary batsman Younis Khan after he retires at the end of the ongoing series against West Indies.

According to PCB sources, the board has decided to appoint Younis as mentor of Pakistan Under-19 cricket team. The veteran batsman is expected to assume the new role after he bids farewell to international cricket later this month.

Younis would accompany the U-19 team for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in January 2018, the sources said.

The Test cricketer is already batting coach and mentor of Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi, which won the 2017 title earlier this year.

The 39-year-old announced last month that the West Indies tour will be the last of his career.

Great news i hope he accept the offer

after some u19 level coaching experience he can do coaching in the future

ideally he should work with our young players how to play spin

that would be great
but i think he is gonna first complete coaching training... he is already level 2 coach (i don't know what that means) and he had said that after retirement he wants to complete the training....
that is a great decision....
Rahul Dravid has brought a huge change for India and Younis can do ot for Pakistan

That is the best news that has come out of Pakistan cricket over the last year or so..

This mentor thing is too airy-fairy!

To show up and pat someone on the back and recount some old story is not what we want from YK

We need solid help such as nets and batting technique etc for specific players etc

He should be given a more formal and bigger role, within the NCA perhaps - it would be a shame not to make the most of his immense experience and talent.

He wants to complete his coaching qualifications first. He said in a recent interview with Ramiz that he's level 2 right now. He wants to become level 4, and then take the reigns of one of the junior teams.

From what I have heard, all players who have played international cricket hold level 2 coaching. For level 3 you have to do some courses alongwith coaching a side for some period.

I am a bit concerned about his temperament. You need a lot of patience to work with youngsters and YK lacks that. Dravid does possess that.

Reckon he should become slip fielding coach as I think we'll miss his slip catching more then anything else...

Younis with the under19s and even with the A team would be perfect.

I wouldn't discard it completely.

Many Sialkot players have greatly credited Shoaib Malik for being a true role model and mentor for them - such as Haris Sohail.

Hopefully - it will greatly help the U19 players on improving their game for the longer format.

That is not correct.
