India all-rounder Irfan Pathan and other support staffs of the Jammu and Kashmir’s cricket team were requested to leave the state at the earliest after the Indian Government’s security advisory following unrest in the valley. Pathan, who is associated with Jammu and Kashmir team as player cum mentor along with coach Milap Mewada and trainer Sudarshan VP are expected to leave the state on Sunday, reported The New Indian Express.

“Yes, the JKCA has advised Pathan and other support staff to leave J&K. They will fly out of the Valley on Sunday. Selectors, who are not from the region, have also been asked to leave for their respective places,” said, JKCA chief executive officer (CEO) Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari.

This could turn out to be a blow for the J&K side ahead of the domestic season, which starts from August 17 with the Duleep Trophy followed by the domestic fifty-over tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy. The league round of Ranji Trophy is scheduled to begin on December 9

The turmoil in the state has also forced the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association to suspend all cricketing activities and even send home more than 100 cricketers from different age groups who were camped at the Sher-i-Kashmir stadium in Srinagar.

“We’ve already sent 101-102 Jammu players, who were camping at Sher-i-Kashmir stadium, back. The situation is tense and even we are not sure what’s going to happen, so we postponed cricketing activities and decided to wait for the right time to restart it,” Bukhari added.

According to the report, JKCA had planned to organize preparatory camps which also involved match-practice by dividing the senior and U-23 cricketers to 8 different teams – three from Jammu, three from Kashmir and two from the senior team probables.

“We played a selection match on Tuesday. The juniors including U-19 and U-16 cricketers were undergoing training camp at the stadium. Apart from this, matches were going on at district headquarters. Selectors were visiting these places for talent scouting. But all these activities have now come to a sudden halt due,” India and J&K cricketer Parvez Rasool told The New Indian Express.

The turmoil in the state has also cast a doubt on the matches set to be hosted by J&K during the domestic season. However, there has been no official word from the BCCI on that matter.

I understand that this is an emotive issue but lets keep it focussed on cricket in this forum, Time Pass & sports for other stuff

Back to topic

how will this effect lives of cricketers in J&K?

I hope the cricketers return back to play cricket again.

Not a good thing to see a cricket game/series to get stopped due to non-cricketing reasons.

To be fair I don't think having tourists or cricketers in Kashmir was a good idea for the time being considering what Indian govt is planning there, to which there almost certainly will be backlash in the valley

seriously what are india upto, its must definitely have to do with that article 370 bill.

It almost likely they will change the law on this regards

India have added a further 10k soldiers to the already 50k they had deployed earlier.

This is a humanitarian issue waiting to happen.

Shame on India and those that kill innocent people.

So Modi only care for players not their families. If these players leave their state and leaving their family in danger it would be disgraceful. Nothing bigger than family.

BCCI ready to help Jammu and Kashmir Cricket, things may return to normalcy, says Irfan Pathan

Jammu and Kashmir cricket mentor Irfan Pathan on Monday said the BCCI has promised them help after the team was forced to pull out of a domestic tournament due to the communication clampdown in the state. “Hopefully, this won’t have an impact in the upcoming season. From what I have spoken to BCCI, they are ready to help in any way. They will help in taking any decision. It is quite possible things may return to normalcy and we may not need to move anywhere else,” Irfan said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) pulled out of the upcoming Vizzy Trophy after it failed to establish contact with the players due to communication restrictions in the valley following the revocation of the state’s special status.

“We (the Jammu and Kashmir team) are not going for the Vizzy Trophy. The ground reality is that we tried to send the boys to play the tournament as preparation is necessary (but could not make it),” Pathan told reporters here after attending a meeting on the contentious conflict of interest issue.

The out-of-favour India all-rounder informed that the team had begun preparations for the upcoming season but its plans were disturbed by the curfew imposed in the valley.

“We did a camp from June 14 and we trained for a month. I had taken a trainer who was with the Indian team for the camp. Our coach has worked a lot and fitness levels had improved.

“(But) when the matches started, we had to stop (training) as curfew was imposed and it was better to send back all the kids (players to their respective homes),” he said.

Restrictions have been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the Narendra Modi-led government revoked the special status given to the state. The Vizzy trophy is a pre-season preparation tournament.

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) will be airing advertisements on local television channels to reach out to their players due to the volatile situation in the city ever since the government decided to abrogate Article 370.

According to a report in Sportstar on Tuesday, the advertisements will be aired from Tuesday. The association have asked their players from Srinagar and other districts to assemble in Jammu on August 31 for a preparatory camp ahead of the domestic season.

The decision was taken few days ago after JKCA administrator Justice (retired) CK Prasad met with JKCA CEO Ashiq Ali Bukhari and former India pacer Irfan Pathan, the team’s mentor in New Delhi.

Due to the ongoing situation in the Kashmir Valley, the JKCA were unable to send any of their players for the Vizzy Trophy last week and don’t want to face another situation when the domestic season gets underway on September 24.

“Even though the mobile networks are unavailable, some of the television channels are operational. So, we thought this was the best way to communicate to the players,” Bukhari was quoted as saying in the report.

“With the domestic season approaching, there was nothing else we could have done to reach out to the players. At least, if we put out advertisements on television, they will be aware of a camp,” Bukhari said.

20 players from the team have been asked to attend the camp. Among the players whom the association have been unable to connect are captain Parvez Rasool, who live in Srinagar, but has been incommunicado for more than two weeks now.

“Now that the advertisements are being aired on television, we hope to get a positive response,” Pathan, who has mentored the team for two seasons now, said.

Pathan also revealed that the practice venue will be decided once players arrive and only after the situation is assessed. “In Jammu, the grounds are usually ready by November, so for now, we will have to look for a different option. We will also speak to BCCI on the matter,” Pathan said.

The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team is set to have its camp in Baroda from Thursday as they prepare for this year’s domestic season.

The move comes in the light of the developments in Srinagar which saw the players being asked to leave the Valley due to security reasons.

Allrounder Irfan Pathan who is now the mentor-cum-coach of the side confirmed the development.

“By today all the boys have assembled in Jammu. There are 27 of them, half from Jammu and half from Kashmir. We had a meeting and decided we would give an advertisement on television, on a local Kashmiri channel. So from there, the boys assembled in Jammu and the camp will be held in Baroda,” Irfan told IANS.

“The camp will take place at Motibag Cricket Ground in Baroda from Thursday.”

The domestic season is underway with the Duleep Trophy. It will be followed by the domestic fifty-over tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy. The league round of Ranji Trophy is scheduled to begin on December 9.

The turmoil in Jammu & Kashmir has also seen the cricket association suspend all cricketing activities.

Speaking to IANS, a senior official of the JKCA had confirmed the same last month and said it was due to security reasons that the players were asked to leave the place.

The army had earlier issued a security advisory asking tourists and Amarnath pilgrims to leave the valley.
