Media reports are suggesting that players are unhappy with Mickey Arthur. In turn, Mickey Arthur has blamed factors such as league cricket contributing to the New Zealand debacle. Senior cricketers have complained to the chief selector.

If True, Mickey is 100% right. And lol at senior duds complaining to Inzi. They have no right to complain. I wonder who these are.

Lol hopefully these whiny seniors are thrown out. Mickey probably let them have it after this disastrous effort. :))

.
lolz the senior player should be kicked out instead of complaining.

Senior cricketers need to have a good, hard look at themselves. If someone calls you out for your rubbish performances and questions the fact that you spent two months playing lame league cricket, you deserve it.

One the senior players can't perform, and when they get a telling off they'd rather complain than think about how to change and improve.

By the way, usually on tours when the camera goes to the dressing room you usually see Mickey Arthur among the players, this time although I might have missed it, I found he was sat separately with coaches as opposed to with players throughout the series.

Wonder who these senior players are, I hope Sarafarz isn't one of them. Hafeez could be the one as he scored two 'brilliant half centuries' & would not like to be called among those seniors who are letting the team down.

This isn't good if it's true....
These disgusting seniors shud be named and shamed in public....
One senior has a history of doing such stuff and looks like he is continuing his legacy.

Can we analyze his two brilliant half centuries here?
They were of no use to me.were selfish and added nothing.

whoever complains must be kicked out of the team.. how you can justify your poor performances in the series? and mickey is 100% right.. this senior garbage needs to be dropped forever from the team.. this kind of dirty politics hurting pakistan a big way.. how the hell you complain even when you are not performing well?

mickey has done a great job by keeping out wahab, akmals from the team.. getting the same feeling as of t20 world cup 2016 when we were let down because of this kind of politics..

Once upon a time in Pakistan cricket the term senior cricketers referred: akram, waqar, inzi, ijaz, anwar. At a later time it referred to ppl like a risk, razzaq, yousuf (you will not how the pedigree of senior cricketer declines). And now the term refers to (hehe) Malik, Hafeez, aamir (?), azhar (?)

clearly reflecting the downfall and gradual decline in standard of PCT..

Because the senior players have been put under the spotlight their mediocre performance and for the mediocre players they are who don't deserve to be any near the team. Now they have running to their mommies to help save them so typical of our senior players.

It is really sad to say that our senior players are Malik, Hafeez and Azhar. You know what they say, it's not about your performance but who you know to wear the green shirt.

I don't think Babar would have played all 5 ODIs if Sarfraz wasn't captain. Another captain would have probably dropped him after consistent poor performances and for the worst average of the whole team.

Easy to blame league cricket. League cricket is easier competition so players will do better often, less pressure than internationals, shorter overs (so easier to bowl at a faster pace for those overs). It's not the problem.

We were just awful bat and ball. Bowlers bowled wrong lengths, low on pace, some were not at full fitness/injured I suspect (hence bowled slower). Batsmen were either just not good enough(Azhar, Imam (though he's young and can improve), Malik, Hafeez) or unfit (Sarfraz and to some extent Haris).

Coach could have done some things better too. Haris should have been introduced sooner clearly. Also including Nawaz (and Haris for his spin, as well as bowling more of Malik's overs) earlier might have helped too as spin seemed to trouble NZ a bit more than our pacers, I felt Fahim's role in the team was unclear, he was either sent behind Shadab at 8, randomly to open and never really bowled full overs. Though not sure if this would have made a huge difference as NZ played our spinners decently well too.

If Misbah was still around Babar would still be playing domestics.

And who were you going to replace Babar with? We don't have any other good batsman in the team to replace him with. If Inzi, Yousuf, Mindad etc were sitting on the bench then I would have said to replace Babar with them after the second ODI. The fact of the matter is we don't have anyone and he has preformed for us for last 30 odd ODIs so based on current conditions alone he deserves to play all 5 ODIs.

Hilarious!!!

This kind of exposes Inzamam's nefarious role in the team and him being the biggest reason we lost the ODI series.
Senior losers the people who are responsible for NZ series loss, are trying to repeat 2010/11 with Mickey Arthur even though they don't even deserve to play in the side. They are trying to protect themselves although most were'nt dropped. Those uninformed posters who were lobbying to throw the seniors out, should see and understand the dynamics of the cricket board. Just imagine if Sarfaraz or Arthur would've really pushed the seniors out WHAT WOULD'VE TRANSPIRED!!! Inzamam would've found a way to play his dirty politics. And another players coup was down the corner, only one or 2 insecure juniors were required to orchestrate a REVOLT against both captain and coach.Thankfully all the juniors performed and seniors failed.

These are some of the reasons Pakistan can't win because we can't drop 'fit' seniors in any circumstances esp. even an unfit Malik.
Shoaib Malik being sent home is something he is not willing to accept. We should thank Arthur again to block Akmals & Butt in the side or else the juniors would also have not performed and players would've been complaining to the board to either drop the captain or they won't play in the XI.

I trust Mickey Arthur to overcome this tactfully, he just needs to 'plan' to phase out the seniors sooner rather than later. Or else these seniors will not allow him or Sarfaraz to remain part of the XI by the end of 2018, I can bet on this. Seniors like Hafeez or Malik or even Babar Azam don't care about the country they only want to stay in the team as long as possible they will do anything to make that happen.

To have someone like Misbah in that middle order would be a luxury, we would have someone who would fight through the innings, and bowlers would actually have to work hard to get his wicket and he wouldn't just give it away.

Right now we don't have a middle order, lacking in class and depth and I have no faith in them in such conditions. Instead we are looking at our tail enders like man they can bat so they will help us reach a respectable score, think about that for a minute we believe our tailenders will consistently score more than our middle order batsmen.

That's true we don't batsmen of those calibre on the bench. However, Imam could have been given more chances than one as he has recently performed too. With tailenders out performing the middle order, and babar having an average of 6 for the whole series, I believe that warrants a change whether thats bringing Imam in or an all rounder.

Man, these foreign coaches can't survive the political nature of the Pakistan cricket board/team. I really feel for them at times. So much going on behind the scenes with certain lobbies pushing for certain players and these coaches are either completely unaware or helpless. I really hope Mickey stamps his authority on the team and selections, or threatens to resign. If PCB really wants him as a coach, it'll let him do his job without one hand tied behind his back.

If this middle order had misbah we wold have still lost by 5-0 but a bit repectable way like not going all out on 27 etc but at the end result matter and i dont think so he would have changed it.we can see from the past i mean history.

Imam is an opener and should have played instead of Azhar and yes he should have played more than one match. However, replacing Babar with all rounder doesn't make sense at all because at the end of the day you need a proper batsman batting at #3. If anything Aamer Yamin should have replaced Malik since Malik is in the side as an all rounder and hasn't done much as an all rounder. I am not sure why are you against a guy who has been a consistent performer for Pakistan for a while now. If someone performance for you for number of matches but fails in two matches then he should be kicked out of the team?

Going off by what you are saying then Virat Kholi should have been dropped after the first test against SA because he failed in the first test. Starc should be dropped because he failed in todays match against England along with David Warner, Hales etc...

I don't know about the final scorecard, but we would have competed a bit more if Misbah played instead of Babar or Malik for instance. We need another such batsman in the team who can hold his fort. Fawad Alam, instead of Babar/Malik would have been great.

What's to blame is sticking with the deadwood and picking overall a poor squad.

They were of no use to me.were selfish and added nothing.

with an 0-5 thrashing, which performance by ANYONE was for any worth? that selfish tag should belong to EVERYONE who played one game in this series. why single out one? by the way, i ma not a hafiz supporter.

I know what you're saying, but Babar was like a dead fish, he went where the water swayed and seemed could do nothing to stop the flow of the current. I agree about malik, I believe aamer or nawaz should have replaced him. But see, I believe malik has performed quite well for us too in recent years, and if you are okay with him being dropped and not Babar then what is the reason for this?

If a guy has scored fewer than 10 runs in 3 ODIS, and you have lost the series.. I think its time you consider dropping him, and give someone else a chance. They had no problem dropping Azhar, what exactly did Babar show you in the whole series that justified his selection ahead of others? Don't say past performances, as alot of these batsman had good past performances, not to mention Babars were largely in UAE and mostly against weaker teams.

Kohli and Starc are are in another league from Babar azam for one, and second kohli is captaining the side. You can't say you are okay with azhar/malik being dropped, but okay with keeping babar where he has done worse, that doesn't make sense. You could give Babar a 3rd chance if he failed in 2 ODI's, when he fails the third time and the series is lost then I'd consider other options. He fails again in the 4th, and you pick him for the 5th? Why? He showed nothing this whole series to suggest he will score in the 5th, did Pakistan want to win or give babar a practice session in game?

Seniors are complaining to the the selectors? For what? Playing them in New Zealand when they can't bat here unless the bowlers are a bunch of 15 year olds?

LOL that false hope gained from that first warm up match, now I really understand the value of such warm ups when it comes to our batting performance, and I will always remember that.

It was expected actually. After the NZ series, Arthur isn't happy with the squad given to him and he didn't hide what in his mind here. So, the seniors have gone to their Bhai - just in case, Ul Haq comes under pressure and does something brave .......

i said yes we would have competed more but would have not won and thats important, misbah style of play was never gonna win us matches aginst top 5 post 2011.

and he wil defintely do.he will say deko ma na experinece player diy thay magar managment k zimadaari ha in sa kaam leaina na k in ko underpressure karna.

I was just making a point that Malik is in the team an as all rounder and he should be replaced by an all rounder. The difference between Malik and Babar is that Malik has been playing cricket for a very long and is average at best. He has failed on green tops over and over again and the biggest thing is that he is towards the end of his career and we can't expect him to approve now. Babar on the other hand is starting is career and has been the standout batsman for last year and half and can still improve to be a match winner for us in the future.

Babar hasn't done anything to justify his selection after a poor ODI series but the fact he is still better than Azhar, Malik and Hafeez so I would back him up then those that have been playing cricket for a while and are average at best. If Babar had been given half as many opportunities as Malik and Hafeez and his overall performance was average then I would be the first person to say that he needs to be dropped from the team and didn't even deserve to play the first ODI.

I agree Kohli and Starc are in anther league but Babar is an other league compared to Hafeez and Malik.

Malik averages 30 in AUS, 13 in Eng and 32 in NZ with an overall average of 35 and SR of 81

Hafeez averages 18 in Aus, 27 in Eng and 37 in NZ with an overall average of 32 and SR of 75

Babar averages 56 in Aus, 31 in Eng and 25 in NZ with an overall average of 51 and SR of 84

*I didn't include South Africa which is the other bowling friendly country because Babar hasn't played in SA yet*

Babar beats out Hafeez and Malik in two out of the three countries and have a much superior overall average and better SR then Malik and Hafeez despite failing in NZ. I would take Babar over Hafeez and Malik any day. This is Babars first series in which he has failed compared to a lot of series where Hafeez and Malik have been a failure. Now I would still back Babar up in the next series because he has proven that he can deliver for us, despite failing in one series. However, if Babar fails in the next 2/3 matches then I would drop him.

You're right about Babar having a good overall record, but I was thinking on the basis of the current series he didn't even score 10 runs against average bowlers in the warm up, and then failed in 3 ODIs in a row with nothing to suggest he may perform. On the basis of that, and wanting to win some matches in the series I would think that would be a good time to replace him. At the very latest after the 4th ODI failure.

However, it's likely that he will be selected for the next series, so if he fails to perform for the first 2 ODI's, I think they need to give him that kick up the backside so he can think about doing things differently if he wants to play.

Looks like Micky's days are numbered and his fate will be just like Hature of Bangladesh. These players have too much power for their own selection into team. PCB is just like puppet

So the Pakistan Cricket's Media Circus™ starts.

NZ should rub it in and this team deserved to lose 0-8.

But I am positive we still won't see any changes

The worst thing is this NZ team hasn't even been pushed. Pakistan have crumbled and NZ have just picked things up from there.

NZ have been ruthless, no doubt about it. One of my favourite teams to watch, with only England more entertaining than them to be honest.

If Pakistan don't put in an improved performance in the last two T20's, there will most likely be consequences. Players are worried. Coach is worried. Everyone appears to be worried about keeping their places.

Even though I am not a huge fan of keeping Hafeez in the side if he can't bowl, you cannot say he underperformed. Must have had the most runs out of any Pak player in that series, so you cannot say he underperformed compared to others. Should be rational and clear-headed about what has gone wrong in this series:

1. Babar averaged about 6.20 in the ODI series batting at crucial no. 3 position. Not good enough.
2. Haris Sohail did not play until it was too late
3. Mohammad Nawaz got into the series too late
4. Sarfraz underperforming with the bat
5. Malik had a poor series (but deserves leeway considering he has been our most consistent batsman over the last two years)

So to make this a 'seniors' vs 'juniors' issue is not appropriate either as MA seems to be trying to do. Just judge a player on their performance and not their age.

We all know what was the reason for the series loss.

Mickey Arthur would've been criticized anyway he took a safe statement option advised by his fellow staff or PCB.
If Mickey Arthur would've stated the obvious or the REAL reason that is Chief Selector Inzamam selecting his favorite batting seniors with 9 and 6 average like Azhar, Malik, Hafeez, Babar and underperforming Amir.

So-called cricket experts/former cricketers and biased mediaperson like Yahya bechaini would jump in to defend political hack Inzamam and the seniors .

Our former cricketers/experts are themselves pathetic and biased who have done jack for the team over the years as players or support staff but criticize so that a coach position is left vacant for them. We all know how local Pak coaches minus Mohsin Khan have been devastating for the Pakistan team over the years.

The youngsters performed 'really well' like Shadab and stepped up to the responsibility, seniors looked shameful infront of our performing youngsters.

A journalist on TV revelaed today that Hafeez sat out the 1st T20 in protest as he isn't happy from coach's statement about senior players & there's a serious tiff going b/w the seniors & coach. I'm not too sure about her credibility as a journalist but Mickey's statement today testified that he wants to play a young team. The problem here is that Mickey's only insight on Pakistan's domestic talent is through PSL & I doubt he's ever seen domestic top performers like Sadaf Hussain or Saad Ali playing in any other domestic tournamant.

As 8-0 is surely on cards, I really hope that Mickey & Sarfi manage to survive this because we need them to continue till WC'19. Malik has an abysmal record in England, Azhar is not suitable for ODI's & Amir will have to fight for his place once Shinwari & Junaid returns. Hafeez (the all-rounder) can be useful if he decides to put his ego aside & bat as a low order finisher, his bowling will be a vital asset against Non-Asian teams.

If Hafeez has made such a 'protest' for playing pathetically and losing us the series. If seniors think they are bigger than the Pakistan team, than they should be sent back.
Seniors only going to poison the atmospheres so that the youngsters don't perform.
These are all ploys done to death before to sink the team further so that they can remove the only hurdle that stands between them and their automatic place in the team, the coach and captain.
Hafeez and other seniors after 15 years still don't have ability to play bounce, they have performed shamefully.
Even if they were great, it took Tauqir Zia, one sign to throw these greats out in 2003 who thought they can get away with shenanigans just to save themselves.

Hasan Ali, Haris and Umar Amin body language was poor today. Anyone who underperforms should be benched and Arthur should try to work this out so that Hafeez does'nt negatively influence the team further.

Hafeez should be banned from playing cricket if that's the case. Pakistan team hai ye, iski jaaidaad nahi. I'm sure he's chuffed about his 60 and 80 this series, but those innings did jack all for Pakistan in terms of the result. A senior should command respect, not demand it.

With so many leagues and matches being played, the board should provide NOC for one or max of two leagues per person. The board should make sure that the players are available for practice and selection atleast a month before the national duty. No excuses how great the player is.

You can blame leagues all you want but the harsh reality is that the fixture secretary for Pakistan isnt doing his job, these guys are not playing enough international cricket! its as simple as that, what else do you think a professional cricketer to do considering his worth is only as valuable as his age being young?

Blaming League cricket is riddiculous. The leagues should have prepared the players better for the ODI's and T-20's. The reality is that the team should have turned up a lot earlier to acclimitize to the conditions.

Sethi doesn't seem to care one bit about our awful scheduling or players going off to random T10 leagues.

To hell with domestic cricket, to hell with A team tours, to hell with regular international series with adequate preparation time - as long as he can milk PSL like a cow and receive the plaudits from "Bringing Cricket Home" - Sethi's job is done.

Lame excuses. Players from other countries play in 20-20 leagues around the world. These leagues should have prepared the players better for the ODI and T-20 series in NZ. The Pakistani players had a decent gap b/w the Sri lankan series and NZ series and had enough time to arrive in NZ early to acclimitize.

What does he mean by league cricket?

Is this the same league cricket that he is coaching Karachi Kings in?

Incorrect... only Windies and Pak players play in so many T20 leagues. Heck some of these guys were going even as far as Uganda to play in a league.

Lame excuse

Also. Why doesnt he take the first step and resign from KK. Money-grabbing Hypocrite

Hasan ali is going to Hong Kong league. If he was free around Uganda league, then he will go there too.

He clearly meant excess of league cricket.
Whats the need of Hasan or shadab to play hong kong cricket? Pak players dont even leave uganda leagues.

Mickeys right..our players are putting themselves at risk running after paisa..Hasan was clearly tired and if he gets injured what do you think Mickey will say?

As for the "seniors" well the senior most players are Hafeez and Malik. Need I say more..One should have been dropped ten years ago, the other is useless if he cant bowl..

The senior most player in this team should be the captain end of..the rest are all youngsters..end of..

Moderation. PSL is our own league, who is going to participate in it if Pakistanis won't?

For an example of a jam-packed schedule, look at how much Hasan Ali played in 2017:

January 2017: 1 OD tour match and five ODIs in Australia
February 2017: 9 T20s in PSL
March 2017: 2 T20s in PSL, 2 T20Is in WI
April 2017: 2 T20Is, 3 ODIs and a 3-day FC match in WI
May 2017: 1 Test in WI, 2 warm-up matches for CT
June 2017: 5 ODIs in CT
August 2017: 6 T20s in CPL
September 2017: 2 T20s against World XI, 1 Test against SL
October 2017: 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is against SL
November 2017: 6 T20s in National T20 and BPL
December 2017: 4 T20s in BPL, 5 matches in T10 league

This was just his 2nd year in international cricket; this year he's playing in the HK league as well and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the T20 Blast. Also take into account all the travelling, etc. It's a valid concern.

Well if this is true, let's see how his fans on this forum try to defend this. Who is Hafeez to choose which he games he sits out?

Player power isn't something new to Pakistan cricket as we're well aware of. I'm afraid Hafeez will play & score some runs in last two T20's to strengthen the notion that senior players should be played at any cost. Sarfi lacks the spine to take a clear stand against, lets see whether Mickey can survive this or not.

Let's see if he scores runs. If he fails he won't have a leg to stand on. I think Arthur wants a younger team but is being hindered by Inzi.

But the PCB needs them to play in these leagues as they take a cut of the earnings.

Sarfraz wants policy to control players’ participation in foreign leagues

DUBAI: Pakistan cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed has called for a policy to control players’ participation in various foreign leagues to preserve players for the national team’s upcoming busy schedule. Talking to media after the Quetta Gladiators vs Karachi Kings match, the wicket-keeper batsman said that PCB would decide on which leagues players should participate in. “We must stop players from playing too many leagues, we have a busy schedule ahead, including important series in the months to come and the world cup next year. PCB will decide what leagues a player should participate,” said Sarfaraz.

He also revealed that the team’s trainer Grant Ludon and coach Mickey Arthur would also keep national players busy with training programmes on the sidelines of their respective PSL games. The 30-year old captain, who earlier led Pakistan to the glory of Champions Trophy title, added that PSL had become a talent factory for Pakistan cricket. “PSL has become a talent factory, Pakistan got several players from the two previous PSL editions and I am sure talented players will continue to emerge and those who will utilise this opportunity will surely come forward,” said Sarfraz. Commenting on Quetta’s defeat by Karachi Kings, Sarfraz said the batting let his team down although the bowlers made a good comeback during the ending overs. “We did well with bowling in the end but batting didn’t do well. We played too many dot balls especially in the first six overs, which brought us under pressure and led to our defeat,” Sarfraz highlighted.
