According to media reports, bookies tried to contact PSL players through social media.

The players notified the board straight away.

PCB's prompt action foiled the bookies' plot.

The bookies were 'Indian/Bangladeshi'.

PSL 3: ATU foils fixing bid after reports from players

DUBAI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) anti-corruption unit (ACU) on Friday foiled an attempt by international fixing mafia to taint the country’s top cricket league.

PCB ATU foiled an attempt by two bookies from an international syndicate to approach PSL cricketers via social media networks after players reported them to the authorities.

According to reports, the bookies tried to approach the players via Whatsapp and Facetime mobile apps, but their attempts were countered after the players alerted the anti-corruption unit.

One of the miscreants was identified as Umar from Bangladesh, while the other one was said to be from India. Both of the bookies are on International Cricket Council (ICC)’s blacklist.

The unit held an emergency meeting at the hotel afterwards and reinstated its stance against match-fixing, while also urging the players to be vigilant.

Pakistani media cooking stories about indian/bangladeshi involvement. So predictable.

princeuk pakistani media is biased in these cases. Don't believe on them. We don't care about your league.

princeuk pakistani media is biased in these cases. Don't believe on them. We don't care about your league.

And indian media isnt, who are spreading lies about overseas players not giving 100% effort, your media knows more than we do over here than our own league.

No other source than Pakistani media. So it is false. Pakistani posters rejected that theory since you do not believe in Indian media news. Now why you telling me to believe on Pakistani source. They are spreading lies only princeuk

No Indian is involved since there is no credible source of this news.

Pakistani media seems like the paragon of integrity when you compare it to garbage Indian media.

Syed1 just like Indian media is paragon of integrity for us in front of lier Pakistani media. They are biased.

Mirpur express I do not know that you own this forum. I am allowed by mods/admins.

No one has ever heard of a Pakistani bookie, ever. Fixing is always traced back to only one place and that is India. Just shows how our players have been the most vulnerable when it comes to all this...

sshakir411 yes, Mazhar Majeed is a peacemaker between Salman butt and Mo. Amir.

Stop drifting away from the subject, noone says that bookies are only from India, or only from Pakistan or only from Bangladesh, they can be anywhere. You seem to have got defensive straight away when you found out they werent paksitani.

sshakir411 yes, Mazhar Majeed is a peacemaker between Salman butt and Mo. Amir.

Get a dictionary and look up what a bookie is. Mazhar Majeed was not a bookie but rather a player agent who took money from bookies. I know it's hard for Indians to admit any wrong doing in front of Pakistanis but don't make non-factual comments.

So when you got hit hard by fact you made him agent. Whether he is agent or bookie, all are pakistani. And pakistani cricketers are no saint. If you allure by money so easily then it is fault inside you. Do not blame others. sshakir411

You need help. Look up the reports from the court that clearly mention him as an agent..and also post#14. If you have trouble in reading and comprehension (most likely the case) then please go somewhere else.

sshakir411 you have to get rid of your victim mentality and stop crying that all pakistani are angels and indians lure them. Whether he is agent or bookie or a player. They all are criminals. Now don't quote me if you can't stop attack personally.

Bookies’ bid to taint PSL again?

DUBAI-Stringent anti-corruption measures employed effectively by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) foiled bid by an international fixing syndicate to corrupt the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Two bookies belonging to an international fixing syndicate attempted to approach players during the PSL third edition in Dubai via social media websites, but their nefarious designs were foiled by the PCB’s anti-corruption unit (ACU), sources close to the matter revealed.

According to evidence available with the ACU’s investigators, the bookies attempted to approach at least three players via WhatsApp and FaceTime. But their plot was thwarted when the players immediately reported the approach to the PCB. One of the bookies is named Umar and belongs to Bangladesh, said the board sources. The other is believed to be from India. A PCB official confirmed that he has solid evidence that the two bookies were spotted in Dubai; however, they have so far managed to stay away from the teams’ hotel.

Following the corrupt approach, the PCB’s ACU held an emergency briefing at the hotel, where the players were once again warned to stay vigilant against any attempt by bookies to taint the PSL.

According to sources, the players were also shown a photograph of one of the suspects, with instructions to immediately inform the board if the suspect was spotted anywhere near the hotel.

The bookies , according to investigation conducted by the PCB, belong to an international mafia and have been blacklisted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as Test-playing countries.

Information available with the ICC and the UK’s National Crime Agency indicates that both the bookies are in Dubai at the moment.

The PCB has exercised the strictest of security measures in the aftermath of a spot-fixing scandal that hit the PSL last year, which saw cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif get suspended by the PCB for five years after the board’s anti-corruption tribunal found them guilty of playing a role in the corruption.

Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz were also suspended for twelve and two months, respectively, for not reporting the corrupt approach to the board in a timely manner. Karachi Kings batsman Shahzaib Hasan was suspended for a year, while the probe is ongoing against former Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed.

For the third edition of PSL currently underway in UAE, the board has cautioned cricketers to stay wary of social media. They do not have permission to undertake any private trips during the tournament, and can only travel with the rest of the team. The players are also forbidden to meet any guests in their hotel rooms, and can only meet visitors in the hotel lobby. The owners of the PSL franchises do not have access to the players’ rooms, and are not even allowed to book rooms on the same floor as the players.

As per instructions from the ACU, players are required to inform security upon leaving the hotel, and a security official accompanies them wherever they go. The PCB has also issued new SIM cards to the players, and the board’s anti-corruption officials constantly monitor all the data records.

I didn’t know CIA had a “wing” in Mohali and were actively involved in sting operations against cricket betting? :13: :danish

I think you need serious help with English or maybe you need an eye test. I already said in post #14 that Pakistani players are vulnerable.. Never did I say they're saints. And for the record, Mazhar Majeed is a shady agent and not a bookie..that's a fact. Thanks for the laugh though, you epitomize the brainwashed Indian population.

Doubt bookies have a larger goal of tainting a league. All they want to earn is a quick buck. Doesn't matter if it comes from IPL, PSL, BBL or BPL.

Vadodara: A businessman registered a case of extortion against a car service station owner and his man after the accused allegedly took away Rs 4 lakh and then demanded another Rs 10 lakh.
The accused Nitin Agrawal, a resident of Gotri, had lost Rs 8 lakh in cricket betting with the accused Rajesh alias Akku Patel for which he had been demanding money from the latter.

In his complaint, Agrawal told the police that he had been regularly placing bets on cricket matches with Patel since 2015. Last month, he lost around Rs 8 lakh in his bets on India-South Africa T20 cricket matches and matches of Pakistan cricket league to Patel. The accused and his man Jaideep alias Jetho used to call him for money and Agrawal kept dilly dallying.

In one of the calls, Jaideep said that Agrawal will have to give Rs 14 lakh and when he said that he owes Rs 8 lakh, Jaideep came to his office and took Rs 4 lakh forcibly. On March 1, Jaideep came to Agrawal’s house to demand Rs 10 lakh and even threatened to kill him. Two days later, he reached Agrawal’s office in Fatehgunj when he was not present and called him for money. He told Agrawal that he will not leave from there until he gets his money. Later, when Agrawal’s staff called police control room, he went away from there.

On Monday, Jaideep again called Agrawal and asked him to come to Harinagar crossroads in Gotri with money or else he will be killed. Agrawal then, instead of going to meet Jaideep, went to Gotri police station and gave his complaint.
Police said that Agrawal had got into cricket betting in 2009 when he started facing losses in his business. But after some months when he suffered losses in betting, he stopped it but again started in 2015.
