I was getting worried about DRAMA only from Indian side which was very out of character.

Good to hear this news.

Some hope for us Indians. :D

Umar 1 down and hafeez number 5/6 with malik

Hafeez number isn't going to change after last match performance and there is a chance of Afridi coming at number 4 so i can't see Umar Akmal coming in top 4.

Well rain again started.......

He is the best batsman and your best batsmen need the most exposure.

He proved himself in the PSL and the two games he played up the order in the Asia cup is well.

Don't know what else he can do and it must be frustrating for him is well.

The report looks genuine. Geo News showing a video of Umar Akmal asking Imran :yk This is not looking good at all Camera captured the moment and now Waqar and Afridi both will take a class of Umar Akmal for doing this.

:)))

Umar has ALWAYS even publicly expressed his desire to play up the order.

And he should: at number 3 or 4. Sarfraz too should play at the top specially in Asian conditions.

ROFL!

Hilarious if true. Like asking for recommendation from a senior for a promotion in the company:))

Geo camera captured the video they are showing it with audio. Imran saying you should be going at number 3 or in top order and Umar Akmal saying tell Afridi to send him in top.

I stand corrected brother.

So it's Imran who started this ?

Lol just saw a vid where Imran requested Waqar and Afridi to send Akmal at 3. Nothing serious just a request by Umar

Even the legendary Imran himself wants Akmal at no. 3, can't get better than that for Akmal.

You cannot plan based on a visit by Imran

Umar should bat at 4 and Malik at 5. Ideally Akmal should bat at 3 but thats unrealistic because Hafeez will always come at 3

Remember when Umar came in at 1-down during Bhuvaneshwar Kumar's debut game in Bangalore?

He got bowled off an inswinger for 0 (3) if I recall.

Yep, I remember. Aane Do series.. Bhuvi was unplayable throughout the series.

I remember his unbeaten 56* in 35 balls coming to bat at number 3 against Australia in World T20 Semi Final. Also remember his 94 again against Aussies coming at number 4 in another World T20 last time.

It's not about how a guy plays at #3 when the team is 100-1 and looking to accelerate. It is about coming at #3 when the team's at 10-1 and building the innings :kohli

I feel that having a meeting on the day of the match may not be such a great idea. Should have had it a couple of days ahead. Anyhow, great to see Imran there with the boys.

On a side note, what is Sheikh Rasheed doing there? Didn't he say we should send our blind cricket team to tournaments instead of this one.

You are not playing the Aussies, you are playing India :yk2

From what I have seen, Umar Akmal fares better when he starts his innings against fast bowling when there is no swing. I feel that he has a difficult time getting set when the spinners are on.

I completely agree. These motivational talks have a way of backfiring on our team more often than not. Recall how Imran gave a motivational talk prior to the first Ganguly led India visit this century.

The team is settled, fiddling with their minds just before game will play on their fragile composure.

I am now concerned.

The guy has been saying this for years, but Pakistani team management always had problems in getting the best out of their players. Umar will continue to get get wasted by these smart people.

Hafeez is basically an opener, unfairly occupying the number 3 position. Umar Akmal should be our number 3 in the current line up.

Oh the irony. If someone had tried to offer Imran 'advice' on the batting order when he was captain he would probably have sent both him and the player packing. Umar amal would have been out of the batting order instead of up the batting order.

Let's move our most consistent batsmen to make room for this loser. Great idea everyone!

UAkmal should bat at 4 at least he someone that needs to face the pacers before facing the spinners to get into his groove.

Will the management commit the cardinal sin of not listening to Imran?

He even thanked afridi and management after srilanka's match in Asia cup where he scored 48 runs but still management has no faith in him

He's also made 55 in the semi final of the t20 WC in 2010 coming at 3. Pak losing was another matter but he did his job.

One chance at 3 once in a decade means nothing.

Besides, Hafeez has shown he can bat at 4, made a classy 55 in the Ahmedabad t20.

I dont think IK did say this on Umar's request. HE has said this in past on TV channels and might just be saying what he thinks

Ridiculous way to go about it and another way to annoy your captain and management.

Came in at no. 4 today and did an excellent job, albeit his weakness is against the spinners - well done to him.

I guess the question is, why wasn't he comfortable asking Afridi himself? Did he ask before and got turned down? is he scared of Afridi? Or was he just trying to put pressure on Afridi?

^^
Basically, Imran himself said that Akmal should bat at no. 3 and Akmal said "tell them to do it in the future matches" or something along those lines.

Imran was the one that wants him there, but Akmal was simply telling him why he wasn't there and he should advise the management.

It worked, he was sent in at no.4.

Please tell Umar to tell IK to tell Afridi to always pick Imad and/or Nawaz no matter what. ;-)

Lol, if this is true, what a ridiculous spin by the pathetic media.

Shehzad at 25 of 27

And Akmal at 22 of 15

Were doing excellent job.

But end result of 25 of 28 and 22 of 16 cannot be termed excellent. Why ?

Because they did not complete their job and both got out on the balls which weren't deserving wickets.

# Afsousssssssssss at both :( :'(

Yeah, you can clearly here Imran saying "You should be up the order.....why do you bat down there.......should be at no. 3".

Media always twists it.

I have to disagree, both him and Malik were brilliant.

The pitch was very difficult to bat on (impossible at times).

Blame has to go to the bowlers.

Can't really make out what Umar Akmal's saying or asking him

The delivery at which Akmal got out wasn't a wicket taking one. Had he played the deliveries Sarfraz & Hafeez faced later than a set Akmal can do what we all know. We would have scored 135 or 140 and we could have batted India out of the game.

You can say he could have scored a few runs here or there, but to me - not even a 130 or 140 score would have made a difference.

This was more than a good enough score, but the bowlers have to take the blame.

Spinners bowling full and the pacers not using their brains was what made the difference, hence I can't fault the batsmen here.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one.

I agree bowlers weren't spot on and could have defended this total had they bowled well especially Afridi and Malik. But having said that if we scored 135 or 140 than even if we bowled this bad we could have defended it because of run rate stress.

The way new Zealand won the game against Australia the other day. Had New Zealand scores 25 runs less than they would have won that game ? No.

do not worry guys Sheikh Rashid will disclose everything as he was there and he is not going to keep silent for long

You can't really compare the pitches between NZ vs Aus to this one because the first 5 or 6 overs were easy for batting and a score of 50 was almost guaranteed.

Here, the pitch was impossible to bat on from the first ball.

This was like the Nagpur pitch, where the Kiwi's defended 126.

Pak fell 8 runs short and not to forget, still had 2 overs to go (reduced game), meaning Pak did better than the Kiwi's and Ind were bowled out for 79 on that pitch.

The last time Imran opened his mouth and meddled with the batting order it set our ODI team back for years. He should stick to politics because I don't think his opinion on cricket is worth anything nowadays.

Oh dear, better duck for cover now.

Some folks will soon arrive with their rocket launchers.

It is certainly worth more than your opinion any day.

Really? Last time I checked I'm not the one who spent an entire ODI series using his role as guest pundit to publicly lobby for Younus Khan to bat at #3.

That alone means I am better qualified than Imran Khan is to comment on 21st century Pakistani cricket.

So one opinion transcends all his other opinions on cricket?

If he is talking about when he played, players he with and against and even the thought processes and tactics of a fast bowler then I will listen intently and take note of everything he says.

If he is talking about the current Pakistan team, then I won't listen to what Imran says because he has shown that his thoughts on that topic aren't worth a damn.

Being the greatest player of my lifetime doesn't mean everything he says is gospel. Much like Shane Warne, who is still one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the game but whose opinion on every single topic with the exception of leg-spin should be ignored.

I remember that, biggest blunder in PCB history. After that YK began thinking he was entitled to #3. He was a good #6 batsman, and Malik was playing his role as a #3 batsman wonderfully at the time. Malik was like a very poor man's Kohli once upon a time as a chaser for big totals, esp at one down.

Since that day I don't take IK's opinions of cricket seriously.

This whole thing is just strange

Umar Akmal complaining to Imran in the middle of the corridor

Imran standing in the middle of the corridor saying "YOU should go in at number 3" at the top of his voice whilst all random media and public personal are lurking about

The team management missing from the entire picture

Ramiz Raja blasting Umar Akmal on Twitter about why Jnr asked Imran for help

Just shows everyone's incompetence of how to be professional & deal with issues at the international cricket level.

If Umar had gone to Imran in private and asked him to pitch the idea of promoting him to number 3 to the management that still would have been acceptable - but this is just a bit of a joke. Similarly I'm sure Ramiz could have easily gone to Umar in private and raise his concern.

At the end of the day in my opinion it looks like Ramiz inappropriately complained about how Umar Akmal was inappropriately complaining to Imran.

Kher - we live and we learn...you would hope.

No point dragging this issue out at this stage. Let's focus on the NZ match and see if we can In-Shaa-Allah qualify for the Semi's

Not sure why are people blasting Umar Akmal here? Ik just asked him a simple question as to why is he not batting at no 3 & that he should be batting at no 3 and Akmal responded he should tell the team management. Nothing wrong with what Akmal did or said.
