Does anyone exercise using resistance bands at home? I have taken to it recently because i got frustrated waiting around for gyms to open, they finally opened gyms in Toronto in August but have shut them down again because of the rising number of cases, my prediction is that the gyms will remain shut till the end of the Winter i.e. May 2021 because this virus is most effective during the cooler weathers.

Surprisingly i have found the Resistance bands to be pretty decent, the only exercises i have not been able to do are the legs i.e. leg extensions, leg press machines and will have to find a creative way to do it. Using the resistance bands in my opinion is mostly about creativity and practice.

Just wanted to know if anyone over here is using this mode of exercising and what are their views on it?

Which ones did you purchase? I’m always worried they will snap and lead to an injury.

pull em around your shoulders and you can do squats. they aren't as intense as weights, presses or extensions, but it will help minimise muscle loss from inactivity if you are out of gym for a few months.

have used them in the past but only out of desperation, i.e. the situation you are in. buy an ez curl bar, and a few weight plates, you can recreate most gym exercises.

i use the bands for stretching mostly now.

Overall free weights are definitely the best. I use bands for things like face pulls and sometimes side raises. Bands definitely have their place and can feel better for some movements since their resistance increases through the range of motion

You should check out mountaindog1 on YouTube, ex bodybuilder/coach John Meadows, made a series of resistance band workouts for quarantine times with gyms closed On there. Athlean X also has an arms video for quarantine.

I’m sure you know already it’s easier to maintain muscle than build it. Even if it’s just resistance bands- make the most of it. But obviously you will have to crank up the volume and limit rest times because let’s be honest resistance bands don’t offer much intensity unless you order the really thick ones which mimic 100 lbs or more.

Depending on how long the quarantine will be, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to order some basic weights. Maybe some 20 lb dumbbells or a 100 lb barbell set. Might take a while to arrive because it’s in high demand, but never a bad investment imo- to give you some variety.

I do think they are a stopgap solution though, my advice is based on if that’s all you have access to with gyms closed and zero equipment. Eventually if gyms remain closed, I’d 100% buy some equipment.

I previously was exercising a body part once a week. I have now changed and have now switched to twice a week. Its more painful, aching and exhausting but i think its showing better results. Based on my research, it depends on your goals, if you want to build serious Ronny Coleman type body building competition type muscles then you have to go to the gym but if you just want to be fit and have a beach body then it can be achieved via resistance bands, the key to using resistance bands is knowing how to use them i.e. you really have to stretch them to the maximum to put optimum stress on the muscles

I have a few dumbbells at home i.e. 10 lbs, 15 lbs, 25 lbs, don't have a bar because space is a problem inside the house and its impossible to train outside given the winter weather in Canada. I wish i had an adjustable bench, i use stools in my home creatively to compensate.

The equipment you have is enough I think. I had access to a similar amount of weight as you with gyms closed for months and was able to maintain.

Yeah it does depend on your goals, but let’s be honest, it will take more than just gym to get to Ronnie level lmao.

The fake weight deadlift was p pathetic on his part, but that aside he gives solid advice. Though I do listen to couple other people as Athlean X does not really talk about strength building but nuanced tips and tricks on well known exercises. Even that has had helped me a ton.

Lifting weights and using the ressistance bands has been very beneficial for my back. I used to wear a back support belt whenever working out for all my excercises as I was scared off putting my lower back under stress.

A trainer encouraged me to take a risk and stop wearing it all together and start doing all excercises without it but ensuring I maintained correct posture, form as that is the only way I was going to strengthen my lower back muscles again. I have also had a few acupuncture sessions. So far, it seems to be working very well. I am now able to stand for longer time periods with no back stiffness and no need, urge to stretch the back muscles
