What's new

Result : South Africa v England | 2nd Test | Jan 2-6, 2016 | Cape Town | Match Drawn

Another 2 quick wickets and we might see some panic and some excitement.

If you think that South Africa cannot chase 150 in 20 overs, when they are 1:0 down and after what Stokes and Bairstow have already done on this pitch, then we have nothing more to discuss.
Weird you think England will only score 70 runs in 46 overs.

I clearly said the batsmen, Ali and Broad are capable of scoring 150 between them.

You were the one who said that 150 runs will shut this game out. If you made a mistake, then it's okay.

SA need one wicket more atleast before lunch.Anyways they need to get them out till tea..

Compton, Taylor, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali and Broad can easily score 150 between them to shut this game out.

Yeah, you didn't. You also said that South Africa can't and won't even attempt to chase down 150 runs in 20 overs, which is bizarre thinking.

Awwwww! Rabada takes a great catch but the ball pops out when his elbow hits the ground. So close. :sanga

Morkel bowling like Steyn right now. Beats the inside and outside edges of Taylor's bat.

Bro, this is test cricket. Its not easy to chase 150 in 20 overs on 5th day.But definitely any team would go for the target and so would SA..

Another one gone! Nice bowling and good captaincy.

Perhaps it is not easy but to say that the game will be shut out is false. AB won't care how many fielders are on the boundaries when he is smashing Anderson and Moeen for sixes.

And they got one before lunch..One more will be icing on cake .

What is Morkel doing? Bowl at him, not wide, outside off.

England need to start playing for time now.

Stokes should play his normal game. If he fires for a while then the game will go beyond SA fairly quickly.

But with the ball suddenly doing more, if SA have a session to get 180 and go for it, England could win!

Yes, we're all so caught up with de Villiers that no one is thinking about the possibility that Anderson can swing England to victory here. The clouds are out and about.

All three results are a possibility right now.

Realistically the only possible result is a tame draw.

Rest is height of optimism.

Even if they're bowled out, they can pack the fielders on the boundary and slow the scoring.

What do you think are the chances SA even go for it given a chaseable total?

Very low to be honest. :)). Which is why declaring yesterday was a poor decision. Amla should simply have given the tail and Bavuma to swing their bats around for as long as possible.

I would say your post is the depth of pessimism!

Some people who moaned about SA batting slowly on this thread don't understand the nature of test cricket. This match could still turn into a T20 in the final session.

110-4 feels a bit better. Come on Taylor, come on Stokesy.

No way.....Tukathon will start fro first ball.

Pathetic from Stokes. There was no need for that. Just play out a draw. England are playing very poorly.

Idiots all they needed was 150+ runs...looks like repeat of 2006..at least that was against a better OZ side...this is rubbish.

LOL! I suggest some people keep their fingers off their keyboards for the rest of the test match because every single thing that they have vehemently argued for, has been proven false. You're right, Robert, half the guys who've posted in this thread have no idea what test cricket is about.

:)))

The Proteas are back, which is wonderful to see. What a turn-around this has been. :14:

Nothing is proven..this is usual England collapse..hope you have seen match..Cook/Compton/Stokes all thrown wicket for ordinary deliveries....

South Africa should bat with this lineup:

1) De Kock
2) Amla
3) AB
4) Bavuma
5) Van Zyl
6) Faf
7) Elgar

Bowlers.

They need Faf and Elgar as an insurance policy down the order, just in case Anderson bowls well under the clouds. Will most probably have to go at 5-6 RPO.

It's going to be a draw, they said. South Africa should have kept on batting, they said. Boring match on a flat pitch, they said.

Even great bowlers get gifted wickets many times without any efforts but that only proves that pressure force you to make mistakes and Test cricket is all about handling pressure.

If SA can dismiss England at 160 and still have 30 overs left than it's going to be interesting to see Amla approach as a captain here because if Smith was captain i can bet my money he will go for a safe draw because he knows there are 2 Tests still left to win/draw the series and chasing can backfire here and make it 0-2.

England are still in the game. Get 50 more runs and then use the assistance to bowl out a still shaky South African batting lineup.

I don't think so. Smith was a defensive captain but no captain would play out a draw if all they need is 160 runs in 180 balls. If they lose a few wickets then sure, play for the draw but not going for it at all would be mind-boggling. South Africa are 1:0 down.

Agree. That's exactly what I was thinking. Keep Faf and Elgar for safety and go with this line up.Younger guys would have to look to score quick runs along with Amla ( playing consolidator role) and ABDV and take the game close.

Defensive captains always keep in mind this can backfire and make it 0-2 instead of 1-1 while 2 Tests already left

Even if all they do is give England a big scare, it will be a job well done.

They can always start their tuk-tuk when they are two or three down for not many.

10 overs till Tea. Need at least one more here, if not two.

What the hell happened? Are we gonna lose this? Is the a mine field now?

Have to admit watching a match played in SA can become awkward if you are sitting with family (thanks to the cameramen and crowd)

If S.A can take last 4 wickets in next 10 overs. 160-80 off 30 overs would then be worth a dart at.

I had written South Africa totally out of this ..

Time to eat some humble pie. I hope they are making some vegan humble pies these days :)))

What are chances of Cook declaring at 180-200 and giving SA 20 overs? :13:

Nil. Why would he want to give the Saffers a chance when he is 1:0 up?

Chris Morris is a good bowler, if Steyn is fit for Jo'Burg Morris should play over Abbott.

Only if SA batted at RR of 3.35 at least 30 overs should have saved......Rather than this fake excitement sessions we should have real match in our hand.

Why he has to do that? SA batted tuk tuk for almost 10 sessions for Draw.

I think he should but think he won't.

I was just imagining if somehow Clarke soul can enter in Cook for last session to give it an interesting end :yk

I have a good excuse for wickets falling... today is the best day to bowl with the clouds!

It should be if both sides play or at least tried to play bit aggressively..here one side played complete defensively until they felt they are safe,so i don't see any reason other Captain try to get a result.

Best partnership of the innings, well played Bairstow and Ali.

Boooooooooo! Man, this game is so much fun. :)))

Great bowling change and a tremendous delivery from Elgar.

That's it for the game, it's drizzling but its been good fun. Should shake hands now.
