Result : South Africa v England | 2nd Test | Jan 2-6, 2016 | Cape Town | Match Drawn

Looks like Cook sent message to Stokes saying total 630 or if he want 300...Stokes was only interested in hitting Sixes

Watched some of the highlights, not surprised to see Anderson struggling to swing the kookaburra.

Amla's first 50 in ages. Happy for him but he and ABDV need to bat for most of tomorrow if they are to save this match and series as the rest of their batsmen are hopeless.

:)) Stokes said on TMS after stumps it was hot out there so couldn't be bothered to run 1s and 2s so decided to slog as much as possible :inzi

Bilal7 this is for you :)

De Villiers being De Villiers, Wouldn't expect a daddy hundred from him. Amla on the other hand may get one.

AB 4 runs away from 8,000 Test runs.

Amla 18 away from 7,000 Test runs.

AB doesn't seem anxious to get there. Suppose that indicated just how much he cares for that sort of thing.

No swing, no seam, a bit of true bounce is all.

Could be a long couple of days for the Englishmen.

Root and Jimmy have dropped catches off each other in this match. Oops!

Looks like SA prepared utter flat track to bring back Amla & co into form....your guys dropping crucial catches doesn't help either.

The # getting close to 100 no.24. Hope he gets there off Moeen :amla :moeen

Why?

Also getting close to 7000 runs. I remember cricinfo bringing this stat up before the India series. The fact that he's only gotten there five matches later tells you what a terrible run of five matches that was.

Bhai Brigade ftw!

Probably S.A best session of cricket in series so far, they need a lot more like this to get back into the match.

Poor stuff from SA. Can't compete otherwise, so prepare a batta.

Good century that was scored under immense pressure. Great applause all around for The Mighty #.

Needs to get some more scores to prove that he's back.

Amla needs to make this 100 a double or triple here.. if they can escape with a draw they might get philander and steyn back for last two tests which gives them a chance.

I'm surprised that AB has more test runs than Amla. I thought that Amla would be ahead of him in the runs department in the test arena.

South African cheerleaders on PakPassion at work again.

'I dedicate this knock to all Muslims around the world' - :amla

Great knock from Amla under pressure. Can't question his bottle in Tests.

Amla Bhai back in form just when his average was about to drop below 50. A true selfless cricketer :)

At least AB got something to smile about

Another batsman has finally woken up

I had the idea that SA will win the series 2-1 before it started, and I still do.

Lots of pessimism creeping in because of 1 decent partnership on a flat pitch.

England just need a breakthough here; Faf is out of form, the lower middle order has shown nothing so far and the tail is long as well.

England need to stay patient and they can still end the day well on top.

Not seeing any easy break throughs...2 easy catches dropped,England have this habit of dropping crucial catches....Even UAE series also they made blunders.

1. SA avoid follow-on
2. Cook bottles the declaration leaving not enough time to force a win
3. SA bat out time
4. Steyn and Philander come back and bowl SA to victory in tests three and four

Even if England go into the 3rd Test 1-0 up following a win and a draw, considering the rankings disparity, playing away from home and South Africa's strong record at Cape Town, that would still be a dream position and if it had been offered to anyone connected with England 3 weeks ago they/we would have bitten your hands off. Cheer up Team England! Lol

Strange isn't it? They're a decent fielding team on paper. Maybe it's an experience/concentration thing...

Still a long way to go when this partnership is broken. I wouldn't be surprised to see England run through the saffers. They need 430 just to avoid the follow on that's still a tall order. Saffers need to bat till lunch tomorrow at least to be safe.

I love watching tests in South Africa and England. The two best countries to play test cricket in, by far. Two pretty good test matches already and it is only going to get better.

Previously we had a slip cordon that was most likely the best in the world but the retirement of the likes of Swann and Strauss has mean new people have had to start taking the spots, Root mostly as of late and previously Bell. These guys probably don't have a lot of experience in the positions given the strength of the previous cordon and are therefore still developing at a guess.

Good innings, but it will mean nothing if England win the series.
In the context of the game a really good knock. Amla was under immense pressure before this game.

I wonder what stopped AB 'best since Viv' de Villiers from scoring a century on this flat deck, even though he got two chances.

If CSA can get Smith back in whites, Amla should give up the captaincy after this series (victory). Smith will probably not score a lot of runs but having him back has given some sort of confidence to the South African side and that is invaluable. By the end of the year, maybe Faf will be ready and the captaincy can be passed on to him.

I would personally like to see it given to Elgar. He's younger and is strong mentally.

It's just that he is not as good as Amla in this format of the game :yk

He is overrated in this format anyway, if we talk about the last 10 years, he is behind Sangakkara, Amla bhai, Cook, Pietersen, Clarke and Younis. Yet people go on about him as if he's the second coming of Jesus.

For once i agree with you ABD maybe a better bat than all current players in all formats combined but in this format he is behind many.

What happened this series then? AB at-least tried here.

So a player have to perform everywhere all the time? and if he fail once in a while the other one that performs become better than him become better automatically? and last performances can go to garbage?

Good that AB got out without hitting a century.Otherwise it would have been considered another supporting role knock with all credit given to Amla.

If South Africa can get to 500, they can salvage this game. Surely Bavuma, De Kock and Morris can score 100-120 runs between them on this pitch.

Good, supporting knock from AB today. He makes a great Robin to Amla's Batman.

They used to have a really good slip cordon, which was a key part of their success from 2009-12. Now Cook is the only reliable slipper. It might have been worth persevering with Lyth who was very good in this regard.

Also to Faf when he was batting at no.3. Just the problem is that when he takes the lead then there is no Robin to support him..
