Rivalries in Cricket (Pakistan vs England)

There is no rivalry between England and Pakistan. Teams seem friendly between each other and Pakistan being a poor team doesn't help.

England's main rival is Australia. After that I would say it's India due to the fact they have 5 tests with them.

India is England's greatest rival, you are being too kind to Australia by making them England's greatest rival. And by the way which team it was who until recently didn't lose a test series to England for 10 years? Oh yeah India, got it.

England's greatest rival is Australia. That's a well known fact. They have over a century of history as rivals.

What does not losing to a team have to do with a rivalry LOL?

You build rivalries by winning not by avoiding series defeats
When last time Pakistan won test series in England

Whats India's W/L record against England? Surely must be best ever as India is one of England's greatest rival?

But they play 5 tests against each other regularly and you can see there is an edge in the game. When Pakistan play England there is no edge in the game and most of the time it's a 2/3 test match series.

Ofcourse, there is no rivalry between England and Pakistan. Pakistan have always owned England at home or in UAE and compete well in England.

A prime Pakistan team treated England as minnow level team, beating them in their backyard over three consecutive tours.

Even in their worst years, Pakistan hold a head-to-head test record against England of 8-4 since 2011 which is the best by any team against England. This means that in every 3 test matches played between Pakistan and England, Pakistan wins 2 of them and England wins only 1. In every 30, Pakistan wins 20 of them and England only 10.

In big World tournaments also, Pakistan won last time against England in 2019 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy.

I asked what is India's W/L record against England? Does any other team have a better W/L record against England than India ?

You are speaking too much truth here for some people. Will hurt them badly.

Pakistan have only won 3 ODI series against the top sides in the last 14 years, West Indies probably have a similar record if not better.

Yes, West Indies have won 3 bilateral ODI series vs the current top 5 since 2005 (India 2006, England 2007 and New Zealand 2012).

They've actually drawn a few too - Australia 2012, New Zealand 2013 and England 2019.

Pakistan have won 5 (India 2005 and 2012, England 2005, New Zealand 2011 and South Africa 2013). Drawn against England 2006 and New Zealand 2018.

This is the reality.

But some jokers here think England own us and fans celebrate draws in England.

Credit where due, Pakistan have always performed brilliantly in England.

The Aussie-India rivalry exists because even at their peak, India was the only team that threatened Australia. India beat them in 2001 at home then drew two series away. Australia doesn't take Pakistan seriously because in Australia we've been whipping boys. And when we weren't getting wrecked we were throwing games (Sydney).

That being said, a few people here are implying Pakistan are minnows which is wrong. Over the last 20 years, Pakistan have been competitive tourists everywhere except Australia and South Africa. We've won multiple series in New Zealand. We've drawn 3 in England (2 of which we should've won). In West Indies we should've won 2-3 series but I don't think we've lost one in 20 years.

The current Pakistan team is in transition. It may need a few years before it's competing again. I don't have high hopes for this current NZ series. This current NZ team is as good as any I have ever seen before from the little island.

Bangladesh Vs Pakistan is the new rivalry if its about the level and if its about playing on regular basis then its Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka as a new rivalry. The thing is every other team wants to beat India either at home or away. On a serious note there are 3 rivalries, IndiaVsPakistan which doesnt seem to be a rivalry at all with a huge gulf in their performances at present. Second, The Ashes and third India Vs Aus. As India and Pakistan dont play each other so Its India Vs Eng which can be termed as a rivalry as Eng are more eager to beat India over Pakistan. The hype is more and the broadcast deal of ECB depends on the number of series with India which wasnt the case in 90's.

But, but , but Pakistan has been at par with West Indies in the last 20 years for a certain poster on this forum.

I honestly thought about quoting him in my post. But then I saw how many different posts he had just in this thread basically trashing Pakistan over and over again. I figured it wasn't worth it.

The drama queen of the forum. Waiting for the next time he throws his toys out of the pram after constantly posting attention-seeking nonsensical posts.

I live in the UK and I can tell you that all the English media and English fans see Australia as the main rivals. English fans and media do not see Pakistan as a rival as well. So I really don't get where you are going with this.

If you think India are England's biggest rivals due to W/L record and Pakistan and England are rivals, you are free to think that.

I think there was a genuine rivalry between Pakistan and England in the 80s and 90s up until maybe the 2001 series event.

There were more than a hints of colonized giving back to the colonizer elements. Shakoor Rana giving it back to Gatting. Aaqib and Miandad not taking it from Palmer.

Plus a number of Pakistani players played for counties well.

There is no rivalry now. And yes Australia are England's biggest rivals. The rest all depends on eras and level of competition.

There may have been a rivalry then but I can assure you England fans and media do not see Pakistan as a rival. The main reason is because we aren't a very good team. For England in test cricket the be and end all is winning The Ashes, after that it's winning in India because it is so rarely done .

I am not disagreeing with you. The other reason they may not see us as rivals is because we haven't played enterprising test cricket in years. The 2006 series was one-sided because of a terrible bowling attack. The 2010 series was one-sided and just a complete humiliation thanks to Salman Butt.

The last 3 series since then have been competitive but hardly exciting.

India play more enterprising cricket and are a more competitive team that's why there is significance currently. It's similar to how there was so much more context to a series with West Indies in the 80s and 90s. Or in the 90s and 00s against South Africa.

But yea there's no rivalry without competition and context.

You didn't get it, it was sarcasm. Australia, Pakistan have a better W/L record against England than India.
