Canterbury Squad: Jack Boyle (captain), HJ Chamberlain, Blake Coburn, Tyler Lortan, Fraser Sheat, Nick Kwant, Theo van Woerkom, Sean Davey, Jackson Latham, Matthew Hay, Mitchell Hay (wicketkeeper), Henry Shipley

Shaheens Squad: Rohail Nazir (captain, wicketkeeper), Abdullah Shafiq, Amad Butt, Danish Aziz, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Musa Khan, Usman Qadir, Wahab Riaz, Zafar Gohar and Zeeshan Malik.

Anyone know Pakistan's XI?

The Pak XI shown on the NZ website doesn't have Mohammad Husnain even though he is playing.

Is this true that Wahab Riaz is playing for PAK A, or it’s some other Wahab Riaz?

If it’s the known Wahab Riaz, then I have to say someone is trying to fool PAK fans back home ......

Yeah, Wahab playing for shaheens indicates where Pakistan cricket stands.

Shaheens have lost both games they played, one by 9 wickets i think.

What is Wahab Riaz doing playing against a U19 team? Smacked for 10 in his first over

Losing is not a big deal - bigger deal is PCB is trying to show “improvement” through winning these side games by playing 6-7 PAK internationals, basically every T20 players those not part of Test side. This is almost cheating with people most of whom are not aware of the finer things of the game.

I think some of the regular Shaheens players are missing beacuse they were only allowed a squad of 35 which obviously included T20Is and Tests players.

I'm just worried that even with 6-7 international players we still lost the first 2 matches.

Looks like our pace bowling factory has collapsed.

Struggling to take 10 wickets against club cricketers, this is a new low.

Some of these pacers were supposedly meant to be an upgrade from Amir.

Hassnain bowls gun barrel straight.. no swing.. no bounce. Some no name Chamberlai swatted him back straight for 4. I don't get the hype around him.
He was carted around in Australia by Warner and Finch. Wonder what other batters like Rohit, Williamson etc will do to him.

Wth Wahab is playing and bowling 18th over.. Why ???
Shaheen team is to try new players.
Is it some kind of record... a 37 year old playing a game on the developmental "A" tour matches ?

Wahab losing the plot in the death overs. Just bowled a no ball and got hit for 6 off the free hit.

Any way, good to watch live cricket for free after so long.

T20 is more about restricting the opposition. As long as they can restrict them below 150 they have done a good job.

Pace is Pace yaar.

Posters here will hype anyone that bowls 140kph. Our standards have fallen.

Another decent outing for Qadir.

While Musa hasnt bowled well recently, he should have played over Wahab.

This has to be the biggest farce I have ever seen from a test playing nation. Playing a senior citizen against some bunch of domestic U-19s. That too in a T20I. That too on a development A tour match on the side.
Pakistan fans being taken for a ride here by the visionary. I wonder if Mamoon has seen this

This is Pakistan’s A team, they’re playing against club cricketers.

I just watched Hasnain get smashed around the park by a kid in his last over and I had to turn the game off.

The same Hasnain that’s meant to be a replacement for Amir according to some posters.

He has started getting decent outswing with new ball. Bowled well vs NZ in 3rd T20. Needs to keep on working on his consistency.

Ok if you say so. I have seen very limited clips of him so may be he has the attributes and can fine polish skills further. Else if he bowls just straight in modern era he will be carted around by some monster batting line ups

I agree he was gun barrel straight when he debuted for Pak and his accuracy was nothing to right home about either. He has improved his seam position but, will need to keep on working on his consistency to be a regular.

Ends up giving 45 in 4 overs, which stage of that was excellent

The bit where he managed to come back to playing for PAK. Even if it was PAK A. Against kids. Especially with these kind of figures. Remarkable at the very least.

Maybe this helps write him off for the national team, then i won’t mind him playing this U19 match...

Abdullah doesn’t seem to know whether to pull it or cut it when it comes to the short ball. Wasn’t his dismissal in one of the T20Is a result of a false shot on a short ball too? Obvious area for improvement it seems.

Zeeshan is a proper tullay baaz. A very good tullay baaz.

Abdullah is good on the eyes but still unsure of his game at times. That drive for 4 was fantastic.

Is there anyone who has really seen Rohail bat over the years? I really haven’t - any obvious technical or temperamental issues? How much FC has he played?

De Villiers and Kohli are gone but Dhoni is still there so no worries

Very, very good temperament. Lots of 100s at U19 level in tough situations and first class hundred on debut, plus a good run last year with Northern including two 50s in the final. Highest scorer in Emerging Asia ODI Cup for Shaheens, man of the tournament. Century in the final. Not outrageously gifted though, but he’s a fighter. Can play reverse sweep, ramp, scoop etc, which sometimes he relies on in T20s since he’s still working on his power game.

Scored a century for Shaheens against NZ A just a few days ago. Very good backup wicket keeper option for the longer two formats in the coming years, behind Rizwan. Can take over eventually when Rizwan gives up the gloves.

Rohail Nazir building his innings very smartly in a moment of crisis - first 12 balls, 12 runs. Next 12 balls, 25 runs.

Now on 37(24)

Thank you for the write up, really appreciate it.

On the basis of how he’s doing right now and his performance in the Tour game, seems like he will be a contender for selection in 2021.

Possibly as an accumulator in the top order in ODIs if he can open. Otherwise, let’s see. May need to play for FC before slotting in to the Test side.

But most importantly - admittedly on the back of a very small sample size - he seems to have the oft absent quality in PAK players: a level head.

Feel like he’s more mature about his game in comparison to Haider.

Lovely acceleration here by Talat. Matchwinning partnership from these two.

Talat definitely has a future for Pakistan, especially when you factor in his bowling option. I think he could be a very useful ODI and even Test player.

His double hundred in the Quaid e Azam trophy was a good sign. Hopefully he develops further.

Indeed. I'd bring Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel into the Test fold against SA, but keep an eye on Talat. IMO he's next in line and another good FC season should seal the deal for him. Needs to try and bring that average as close to 40 as possible, in the mean time.

Check out the Rohail Nazir thread, I’ve posted on his progress there as well and you’ll find some videos of his knocks too. Very promising prospect, and thankfully people don’t overhype him either

Wrong player for wrong format.
Haider : Good prospect( All format).
Zeeshan M: Hack.
A Shafique: Test & ODI.
Rohail N: All format.
H Talat: Test & May be ODI.
Khushdil: Hack.
Iftikhar: Hack.
Ammad B: Try him as AR in Tests.
Usman Q: T20.
Wahab R: PLEASE RETIRE.
H Rauf: T20.
M Husnain: Groom him properly.
Most importantly boot out Misbah and Waqar.

Great stuff by the lads. Rohail and Talat both one for the future.

Definitely. What a game. Rohail’s a fighter, I’ve said it before (based on his performances, not because of some “x factor”). He keeps proving it right, and also shows he is willing to work on his game unlike many others. After getting kicked out of the biosecure bubble in England by Misbah, for example, he went to work with Gary Palmer instead of just flying back to Pakistan.

He’s also a good analyst of his own game and talks to all the right people, working with Rashid Latif and Sarfaraz on his keeping, Babar on his drives, Younis Khan on his technique, etc, and has been working hard on power hitting. You can see the improvement in the game today and how he finished it.

One of our rare products who despite not being rated by many, keeps churning out the right kinds of performances.

Totally agree! Saud and Kamran should be next in line for the test team. Saud should be playing instead of Haris Sohail right now.

Rohail has had a very solid tour. And good to see Talat, Amad Butt also having a good time of things.

Meanwhile Wahab continues to be a horrible bowler, and Haider's disappointment continues.

PCB needs to be smart while organizing these A team tours. First what's the need of so many T 20s and just a single 3 day game (2 if we count the cancelled one). Players are groomed in the longer format rather than the T20s. Second PCB should select players with a nice blend of promising youngsters (like Shafique and Akif) and consistent performers in the QeA trophy who are close to selection in the national team (likes of Shakeel, Ghulam, Zahid needed to be there). And third choose the right player for the right format, playing Shafique and Talat in T20s is just not on.

Pretty smooth chase in 18.1 overs with 7 wickets in hand.

among all the youngsters selected for NZ tour. This boy Rohail Nazir impressed the most. He have the game awareness which is lacking in other young hyped players like Haider, Shafique, Naseem & Khushdil. When selected a player selectors should Also consider this in mind and don't select the dumb players

Lovely attitude. Guy is doing all the right things and will be rewarded for it with a prosperous career iA.

This should be the end of Sarfraz even as a backup. If Rizwan ever gets injured, Rohail must play.
