What's new

Rohail Nazir (69*) & Hussain Talat (53*) takes Shaheens to 7 wicket win over Canterbury in T20 game

PCB needs to be smart while organizing these A team tours. First what's the need of so many T 20s and just a single 3 day game (2 if we count the cancelled one). Players are groomed in the longer format rather than the T20s. Second PCB should select players with a nice blend of promising youngsters (like Shafique and Akif) and consistent performers in the QeA trophy who are close to selection in the national team (likes of Shakeel, Ghulam, Zahid needed to be there). And third choose the right player for the right format, playing Shafique and Talat in T20s is just not on.

What is wrong with playing Hussain Talat in t20s? He was one of the best performers in the national t20 cup.

Maybe because he's not a t20 player. Pakistan keep selecting wrong players in the wrong format. Talat was selected on the back of a double hundred in FC. His international t20 stats are mediocre. He's an accumulater and we have 1 too many of them.

Why keep picking Wahab?

Ridiculous tactics.

He may have an average t20 record but he did very well in the most recent national t20 cup. Even the double century he scored in tests came of 237 balls. Now I am not saying that based on that performance he should be in t20 but what I am trying to say is that he is a naturally aggressive batsman who may have not delivered up till now but does have the potential and skills to do it. He has shown that today as well as in the national t20 cup, especially the final.

Performing in one format does not necessarily mean the person is not suited for other formats or he's made for that format only. Reminds me of Fawad Alam's example when he was the player of the tournament in domestic t20 for his all-round performance and not because of his hitting abilities way back in 2005 or 2006 I guess and was subsequently included in Pakistan's t20 lineup and was expected to smash boundaries lower down the order. That genius plan did not work as we all know now.

I hear what you're saying but so did Abdullah have a great NT20. I have posted several times on here regarding him too during the NT20 player after watching all his innings closely. He's a genuine batsman who will excell in the longer format.
Talat is the same,he needs t3eds to play the longer formats first and develop himself into a more of a versatile batsman and then be brought into the t20 squad. We've got enough players averaging 20 with SR of 120 already.
Another example is iftikhar, he's a brilliant finisher but should play odi cricket. He's someone who likes to get in and then can go big, he doesn't have that luxury in t20 especially in pak squad where he's sent in at 6,7.

I agree on this for Abdullah Shafiq. Even for Haider Ali, I would be more happy to see him play first class and later on tests rather than t20s, but Hussain Talat imo has enough domestic experience to play all formats.

Hussain Talat needs to be given a run in tests and ODIs. Misbah knows him from his time at IU. Misbah likes experience and players he knows so why not give Talat a chance?

His SR in T20s is questionable and has an average record in T20s both in the Pakistan Cup and PSL. More suited for the longer formats

So they dropped the 20 year old Musa for the 35 year old Wahab who by the way has been the worst bowler on the tour.

Brilliant!

He always looks like he's tried so hard. Like he'll smash a boundary on the first ball and the play the next 4 as dots.. strike rotation problem just like the rest of pak team.
