Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should be ashamed for the humiliation in the Semi-Final vs England

Looks like Dravid like Saqlain has given leeway to the players with regards to fitness, body fat levels, eating habits e.t.c. Sub continent players need a Mickey Arthur type danda to keep in shape, they cannot be trusted to be professionals on their own. Not everyone can be a gym rat like Virat Kohli

Strange because Indian team for the past 10 years atleast had gotten more serious about fitness (unlike our players).

It is down to individuals at the end of the day. Kohli/Rohit have been playing together for 14 years. Just look at Kohli in 2008 and Kohli now. Drastic difference. Look at Rohit in 2007 and now. Kohli looks like a professional sportsman. Rohit looks like a middle-aged office-going uncle who gains weight each year. Atleast he is excusable. Guys like Pant, Prithvi shaw have no excuse. Sarfrazh khan looks like a whale. I still don't know how he has stamina to make 200s, 300s. YOu need self-drive first.

Why Virat?

Rohit and KL should be ashamed

If you can’t play for the team, then you have no business opening the innings!

Virat is one of the greats of the game so when he performs like he did then he should be criticised.

It is understandable that the Board and Coaching staff, fitness trainers can't be with the players 24/7 and they can't police them on their eating and training habits all the time. But these trainers can pull up a player who turns up in horrendous shape and doesn't meet the minimum fitness, body fat, yoyo requirements and send him back home on the first available flight.

Mickey Arthur named, shamed Umar Akmal and sent him back home from the 2017 CT on the first available flight. Strong management need to take these steps to send a universal message across that everyone is expected to meet certain standards and no one is above the game.

I expected better from the richest most professionally run cricket board in the world i.e. BCCI.

Agree that it is upon individuals to take care of fitness. But it should be the duty of your management to enforce discipline. No one should be above board (including Sharmaji). As Pandya had said a while back, India can field 2-3 teams in tournaments based on the talent pool. So why carry passengers.

Which current player in this squad is getting leeway in terms of fitness and body fat levels.

To be honest Indian bowling is quite toothless. No serious pace, no variation

They do well against us mainly because of the indo-Pak game pressure

Against most western teams, India needs to score 190+/- on non-Asian pitches. Then their bowlers might come into the equation (with the help of scoreboard pressure!) as batsmen might make mistakes while taking more risks/trying to score some quick runs

Barring one win against Pakistan (that too in a very close encounter) the Indian team was subpar and not upto standards.

We keep forgetting the conditions. That determines how the England vs India match-up works. THey have traded punches with each other over the years. Whenever india chases they win most of the time. 3 out of 4 in recent times. Even the one that India lost India chased 215 and ended up with 198. SKY made 117. But whenever India defended 50/50. You cannot defend target agaisnt England on flat tracks. It is the only conditions where England has got the better of India in recent times.

The game at the higher levels is of fine margins and these guys have got old and their reflexes have slowed down. It happens and they should retire with dignity after 2 excellent but ultimately fruitless careers

This.

Our batsmen lost us today's game.

Even though 170 wasn't a par total on that pitch, losing the game inside 16 overs without taking a single wicket wasn't good on bowlers' part. Could have pushed some pressure and dragged the game to the penultimate over with a few wickets.

This is a monsterous batting line up on a belter. Ball hardly moved. hardly turned for finger spinners. So India's swing bowling options and finger spinner options are the least suitable on this surfaec against these beasts. It was a perfect storm for India. India should have scored 200. Not that English bowling was any good. They went under 6 runs against spin bowling of England. That is 7 overs. Pitch had no demons. When you meet England on a flat pitch it is always better to chase them. You simply can't second guess what a good total would be. Given how the tournament went no team was going to target 200. 180 at best. which is only like 12 runs more than what they got eventually. That hit wicket cost 4 runs. So 172 would have been. But only when we saw how Hardik, Buttler, LIvingstone batted everyone even found this pitch was a belter. By the time it was too late for India. Wasted 7 spinner overs.

Don't think they feel it anymore.

When you :
- exit first round of T20 world cup
- exit first round of asia cup
- exit in the semis with Just one win against non minnow on the last ball
- loose odi series against Bangladesh

And you keep thinking you are the best, it means you have no shame left.

- when you keep reusing a FAILURE like KL Rahul.

He dropped the simplest catch with wicket keeper gloves that would have literally won the game for India and how did we punish him? We made hm the CAPTAIN for the next game.

India deserves this humiliation. It makes me happy to see them go thru this. They are arrogant, corrupt and simply don't care anymore. They are more interested in making money in the IPL games and showing favoritism.

Kohli is the greatest ODI batsman of all time. Rohit is the second greatest ODI opener (after Tendulkar) of all time. Players of their stature & legacy do not get humiliated. They have nothing left to prove.

However, Indian selectors deserve this humiliation & hopefully it will be a wake up call for them that they need to change their thinking.

They have so much talent at their disposal but they have allowed the ODI & T20I teams to decay. Also, although Dravid was rested for this series, he needs to go. He has been a total failure as coach & his defensive mindset has held the team back.

Rohit- second greatest opener of all time
Kohli-greatest odi batsman of all time
KL Rahul- we all know how highly you rate him
Iyer- Best crurent odi batsman
Dhawan- second opener of the all time best opening pair
Sundar- spécial talent

This is all according to you. So are you sure selectors are not selecting a good team ? Or all this is not good enough to beat Bangladesh.

It's a total humiliation that india is having over last 1 year and a half.

Dhawan is finished. He should have been put to pasture 12 months ago. He was a tremendous opener from 2013 to 2020 & was part of the greatest top three in ODI history, but time does not stop for anyone.

KL Rahul needs some time away from the limelight to rediscover his true self. He is a dynamic, aggressive player but he is too tentative & cautious.

He is too eager to play like Rohit & Kohli rather than backing his natural game. He can always make a comeback in the future if he can sort his issues.

Too bad he doesn’t play for Pakistan or Sri Lanka because the standards & expectations are higher in India.

Rohit is also washed up. Still a very good player but not the player he once was. Both him & Kohli cannot play together anymore.

One of them needs to be replaced by a more aggressive player & between the two, Kohli is clearly better so Rohit needs to make way.

India does not need to make wholesale changes. All they need is to play two aggressive openers who are not thinking about occupying the crease & aim to get after the bowlers from ball one. Everything else will take care of itself.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant need to open for India in ODI’s

Gill
Shaw
Kohli
S Iyer
Pant
Pandya
Jadeja

This is the best top 7 for India in my opinion. In T20s, you can replace Kohli with SKY and Iyer with Samson.

Dropping Dhawan, Rahul, and Rohit IS “making wholesale changes.” That is like dropping 60% of the Indian team lol

There is never a guarantee that those in-line will fill the boots so close to the WC.

The hyped world class backup talent was owned in NZ recently so am not sure if the upcoming crop is ready yet. Although this is not an indictment on their talent because it takes time to develop and polish it.

The bigger problem is bowling. And the fitness levels are visibly in decline along with poor fielding standards.

Unfortunately, this also means that you may have to tone down your narrative a bit before results match the hype. Man for man, Pakistan has a much stronger ODI unit today with an in-form settled top order and versatile and potent bowling unit.

Gill is a brilliant player but India needs two hard hitting openers. Gill is in the same mould as Kohli & should be his long-term replacement.

Full-strength India is still comfortably better than Pakistan. If there is an ODI series today they will win.

Kohli is past his prime in general but he will keep spanking Pakistani bowlers. They are scared of him & they always bow down to the king.

India’s depth is also much greater than Pakistan. Players like Gill, Shaw, Kishan, Samson etc. cannot find a place in their main team yet but they would be absolute superstars in Pakistan.

India needs to change its template. They already have the players. In some ways they need to do what England did in 2015 but obviously on a smaller-scale.

Selection & tactics problems are good. They are resolvable. Teams like Pakistan have a talent issue, the players are not good enough so changing selection policy & playing style will not make a big difference because the lack of talent will remain a blocker.

India does not have that blocker. They can become a top side again overnight but they definitely need to change their mindset.

What is, is. Whether it’s mental blocker or something else, the performance is below par when you’re losing to Bangladesh at full strength.

After 10-15 years, Pakistan is ranked above India in ICC ODI ranking. Currently, I completely disagree with you that full strength India would be able to beat a full strength Pak side. At the very least, it will be very closely contested.
