Arjun Tendulkar on Thursday was named in India's under-19 squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The team will visit the neighbouring nation in July for four-day and ODI matches.

However, Arjun has only been picked for the two four-day matches. He failed to make the cut for the five-match ODI squad.

The cricketer was part of a group of U-19 cricketers who underwent a month-long camp in Dharamsala in April this year.

Delhi's Anuj Rawat will captain the Indian side in the four-day series, while UP's Aryan Juyal will lead the ODI team.

Arjun is often compared to his father who is also know as the God of cricket, but the 18-year-old has regularly stressed that he wants to build his own career and not rely on Tendulkar's name.

The teenager recently grabbed eyeballs with a 24-ball 48 and four wickets in a competitive match against Hong Kong Cricket Club at the Bradman Oval in January this year.

In the 2017/18 Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy, Arjun picked up two five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul.

The U-19 cricket for long has been seen as a launchpad for future Indian cricketers. Virat Kohli, who won the U-19 World Cup in 2008, is currently India's skipper across all three formats.

The stars of the 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning Indian side were also awarded with handsome contracts by Indian Premier League (IPL) sides. Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and Shivam Mavi among others were part of the 2018 edition of the T20 league.

Squads:

India U19 squad for 2 four-day games: Anuj Rawat (C) (WK) (DDCA), Atharva Taide (VCA), Devdutt Padikkal (KSCA), Aryan Juyal (VC) (WK) (UPCA), Yash Rathod (VCA), Ayush Badoni (DDCA), Sameer Choudhary (UPCA), Siddharth Desai (GCA), Harsh Tyagi (DDCA), Y.D. Mangwani (MHCA), Arjun Tendulkar (MCA), Nehal Wadhera (PCA), Akash Pande (GCA), Mohit Jangra (UPCA), Pawan Shah (MHCA).

India U19 squad for one-days: Aryan Juyal (C) (WK) (UPCA), Anuj Rawat (WK) (DDCA), Devdutt Padikkal (KSCA), Atharva Taide (VCA), Yash Rathod (VCA), Ayush Badoni (DDCA), Sameer Choudhary (UPCA), Siddharth Desai (GCA), Harsh Tyagi (DDCA), Y.D. Mangwani (MHCA), Ajay Devgaud (HYD), Y. Jaiswal (MCA), Mohit Jangra (UPCA), Akash Pande (GCA), Pawan Shah (MHCA).

Interesting both the captain select are wicketkeepers. Must be the Dhoni legacy effect that after more than a decade after his debut, we are seeing a flood of batting wicket keepers in Indian Cricket

I think he is not that good and also not that bad as a player and he has got some favour I reckon because of son of Tendulkar and that's not a crime. But what is important is that he should grab the opportunity with both hands with good performances for Indian under 19 otherwise he won't continue to get the same favour.

Why then are we rolling around with the same old Saha - Patel - Karthik bunch when it comes to the main team?

Watched him practice with his father at Lord's a couple of years ago and he looked ok.

He has such a tough act to follow.

If he manages 1/5th of what his father achieved he'll be an Indian great :srt

Looking forward to Tendulkar Jr's international journey!

Hey India, give him debut vs Pakistan in 2019 :)

Clocked 130 in the Lords nets is what I've heard.
Not bad for a teenager. Can easily add another 5kph as he gets older and stronger. The key to me is if he can swing both ways..and if has a got slower one..

On what basis are you saying this? How much have you watched him play?

So far, he is not promising at all. Bits and pieces.

Might develop, might not develop. Thats a different question. But right now, nothing special.

Do you see him as someone who can fill his father's shoes in terms of 'carrying the mantle' ??

No idea yet. I have yet to see him play. It's ok that he is playing since he loves the game. But being a regular member of the Indian team is asking a bit too much from him. Only a few selected lucky ones blessed with natural talent and abilities are able to secure a regular spot in the Indian team.

I remember his mum saying in Sachin's docudrama that if he doesn't make it big in cricket, he'll have to live with it. True words. People might be pointing out at nepotism without knowing the facts, but nepotism can merely earn him a spot. It can't make him retain that spot without performance.

Undeserving.

We will find out soon, if he is undeserving or not.

There you go. It's just a beginning tho

Took a wicket off his 12th ball though. He's a bowling all rounder.

Fond memories of Rohan Gavaskar and Stuart Binny. I say that because it is more of "pressure" rather than "hunger" (Pressure of being Dad's son! Sure easy opportunity he got, but there is immense pressure to live up to it!)

Nothing player. I am sure of that.
Was bowling to England's women's team in nets .
Imagine shaheen bowling to England's women team, all of them will leave cricket asap.

Patience. He looks more promising than Rohan Gavasker. I like him because he is prospect as left hander pace bowler. India don't have that for long time.

What I care about is not batting.

but this

Blasphemy to say at the moment, but Wasim Akram like jump and release.

I don't want to jinx it but that ball made this kid really look like the reincarnation of Wasim Akram.

Having a left armer is really beneficial, but he should be a bowler first. Not the kind of Rp, Sran or Unadkat like.

Indian batsmen face Arjun Tendulkar to prepare for Sam Curran

After enduring a tough time against 20-year-old Sam Curran at Edgbaston, the Indian cricket team geared up to prepare for his left-arm pace by calling in none other than Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. The 18-year-old, who recently made his debut for India Under-19 in a Youth Test against Sri Lanka, had a crack at the Indian batsmen at the nets under the supervision of coach Ravi Shastri ahead of the second Test at Lord’s.

The Indian batting came under immense criticism after their abject failure to put runs on board saw them lose the Edgbaston Test by 31 runs. Curran picked up 4/74 in the first innings, where he removed openers Murali Vijay Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul in a space of eight deliveries as India went from a solid start of 50/0 to 59/3. He then came back to remove Hardik Pandya, getting the better of the batsman with a yorker.

Tendulkar, who in fact, trains at Lord’s indoor cricket academy, spent a considerable time bowling to Vijay and Virat Kohli. Tendulkar is often seen bowling in the nets to the senior team. In October 2017, he practiced with the Indian team as they were preparing to face New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Tendulkar has also bowled to the women’s team during the ICC Women’s World Cup last year. Having a tendency to clock deliveries at over 135 km/h, Tendulkar had last year bowled a yorker to England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow that gave him an injury scare in the nets.

Is this a joke? Surely there are better left armers they can face, let Arjun bowl to kids his age, they won't gain much facing him anyway

From whatever clippings i have seen of Arjun, he looks very very ordinary. The kid might have the best of intentions and perhaps the best available resources to him, but his bowling action suggests that he is just not natural. And for a bowler who doesn't even seem natural or coherent in his action by the age of 19, it will be difficult to become a good bowler.

Nice comeback by youngsta beauty after getting hit for a four.

Credit where its due.

He's got a smooth action. Looking forward to his development :wasim

Arjun Tendulkar bowls in England nets ahead of ENG-AUS match at Lord's

Ahead of the big Australia-England match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, England team came face-to-face with a 'Tendulkar' during their net session. Nope, not Sachin, but his son Arjun.

Arjun, a budding cricketer, trains at the MCC academy and the Lord’s cricket ground and with Australia taking on hots England in the Match 32 of the tournament at Lord’s, it gave the Arjun the opportunity bowl at the England internationals as a net bowler.

The video of Arjun bowling in the nets was shared by cricket.com.au on their social media accounts.

Arjun was most recently in the news, when he produced a peach of a delivery that dismissed Surrey second XI’s opener Nathan Tilley, while playing for MCC Young Cricketers team. The 19-year-old, a left-arm pacer, has had his share of bowling at the nets to international players.

Last year, when Indian toured England, Arjun bowled in the Indian nets at Lord’s ahead of the second Test.

Nepotism?
Indian fans please respond, as i have never seen this guy play!
Wow hes a six footer?
Sachin only 5'4!

Even if he has his dads backing?

Nope. Fans will roast him if he gets to play more matches than he deserves. Of course all will be well if can justify his selection (if he does get selected). Anyways, this is the BCCI in question here, not the PCB. Nepotism doesn’t have place in the BCCI.

But some fans here think that Jadeja and Jadhav are in the team because of Dhoni? :inti

Funny that, i remember reading on here that dhoni when captain filled his side with less worthy players, who were his favourites!

Not a bad ball at all. I wonder what's his speed is.. India can do with a decent left arm seamer..

I remember wasim saying that sachin had asked him to give arjun some tips!
How about sachin giving imam some tips, heck why isn't inzi giving mam some tips.
Akram has helped alot of indian pacers, why can't indian former batsman help pak youngsters!

They need to ask for help. Former greats have no obligation to seek out any current players for tips. Sachin requested Akram which is the main thing. I am sure if a Pakistan player seeks Sachin for some tips he will. Ramiz Raja, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akthar all were saying that Pakistan players never come and ask for any advice. Why would they seek out to others when they don't ask their own greats?

Help is given to those who seek it.

When Yoni asked Dravid for help, help was given.

A great player will not just walk up to you to give help even if from your own country and from what I recall season and many senior Pakistani players have spoken on TV that most Pakistani players don’t ever ask for help.

Gavaskar also lashes out at Indian team during test series in England for not seeking help

Shoaib akhtar was refering to kohli, when he asked kohli why he doesn't talk to umar and shezad about how to improve their batting. Kohli replied that they liked to talk about other things and not cricket.
Unfortunately, our youngsters don't get to mingled with indian greats!
In the under 19 wc, dravid was ruthlessly criticised for going to the pak dressing room to compliment shaheen shah afridi.
Now dravid would be like akram, no bias and willing to help pak batsman, but indian fans and media would crucify him!

He was the weakest player in that U-19 series vs Sri Lanka. But he has the financial and his father's support to develop into something else. . No other athlete in the world in any of the sports can get this much support and backing.

May be in cricket. But not in other sports. For example, an average NFL player here in ‘Murica has access to way better infrastructure and support system than any cricketer can ever imagine let alone Arjun Tendulkar.
Also you need to show results to succeed in any sports. Else your dad’s support wont matter much. Rohan Gavaskar and Stuart Binny are good examples.

Lucky for him he went on his mother's side as far as height is concerned!
Needs to go on his father's side when it comes to cricketing genes though(even if hes a bowler and not a batsman)!
Also Sachin was born in the 80’s as a middle-class kid and would never had got the nutrition that Arjun is getting now while growing up. That also affects your height.
All my Indian-American cousins are taller than both their parents and us, Indian-born cousins.

Arjun was only part of the U19 long duration games set up and was sent back home early as he was not in limited overs team. He is getting lucky with the selections because Indian think tank has been actively looking for left arm seamers, that is why they tried Barinder Sran and Khaleel Ahmed in the past.

It is becoming very difficult for Indian Management to find quality left arm seamers and seam bowling all rounders. Behind the scenes, work is in full swing to prepare for test championship.
