Saff cup 2018 will kick off as of Septmeber 4th 2018, this tournament will consists of 7 teams and will be held in Bangladesh.

Group A
Bangladesh/ Bhutan/ Nepal and Pakistan

Group B
India/ Sri Lanka/ Maldives

This tournament will be big for Pakistan hoping they can reach the semis, also some wins can do some good for them in the rankings as well. India are favored to win this tournament. Pakistan best finish at the tournament was third place in 1997 when the tournament was held in Nepal, followed by 4th place finish in 1993 when tournament was held in Pakistan, 2003 when the tournament was held in Bangladesh and 2005 when it was held in Pakistan as well.

Hoping the PFF can send a solid squad, good look to the boys in Green should be a good tournament.

India will win it they are highest ranked International Side from SAFF teams.

I am hoping for a match between India and Pakistan.

In order for India vs Pakistan match....they would have to meet either in the semi-finals or finals, which will be tough for Pakistan considering their senior side has not played a match over 2/3 years. They will have to take on Bangladesh who is strong side, and home advantage. Nepal who will be tough match too, the one pakistan should win with ease would be against Bhutan. But than again we never know anything can happen, would be nice if they can pick up a win against either Nepal or Bangladesh

Didnt follow football in Asian Games. What exactly have Bangladesh achieved there?

They advance from Group B, which consisted of Uzbekistan, Thailand, and Qatar
They lost to uzbekistan, tied thailand, and beat qatar on last minute goal.

Bangladesh did lose, their round of 16 match to north Korea, but they still achieved a lot by reaching round of 16, only south Asian team reach round of 16 in this years tournament.

That's better than I thought, well done to Bangla boys.

2018 Suzuki SAFF Football Championship

So the big tournament begins on the 4th September with teams like Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka to battle it out for the trophy, although it is expected for India, Maldives and the hosts Bangladesh to be the favorites to win it.

The first game kicks off on 4th September, with Pakistan playing Nepal, and Pakistan have high hopes this year, following the appointment of their high profile coach...but advancing through the group stages is quite likely for them. Bangladesh expected to top the group however, with their home advantage coming into play.

On the other group, India and Maldives are almost certain to advance. I also feel these two teams will be in the final too.

Who will win this?

Hassan Bashir and Muhammad Adil will be key for Pakistan as well, glad to see Saaduallah back in the line up was cut from the Asian games squad. In goal Yussuf Butt should get the start very solid keeper

Really exited to see Pak football back. Please someone share me any online link to watch the match if you get one.

GOAAAAAAL Pakistan and its 1-0 well deserved lead after a penelty was awarded on a foul that was done Agaisnt Mohammad riaz. Hassan Bashir steps up to the spot kick and scores a calm and collective goal Pakistan up 1-0 so far

1-0 Pakistan after half time. Really good start by Pakistan some good runs by the forwards , defense doesn't look so bad either although Nepal has had some chances but haven't looked to dangerous ,Yussuf Butt goalkeeper looking sharp so far are well. Some small signs of fatigue and some good build up plays as well by Pak would like to see some more shots. Hopefully the boys can play a solid second half and win the match

GOAAAL Nepal are level from a corner kick its headed in and we have a tie game Nepal playing a strong second half and they made it count on the 82nd minute

GOAAAAL can you believe what we just witness on the counter attack Mohammad Adil sends the ball in the box and Muhammad Ali finishes it with s header having missing a solid chance. This was the last play of the game and Ali scores in injury what a goal what game what a win Pakistan you beauty final score 2-1 in favor of Pakistan :)

Exactly.I thought the game was over since the players looked fatigued.

What a run and what a ball from Adil

The second half was all Nepal and fatigue did play a factor, Adil coming later into the game from the bench prove to be crucial. This win is so important since its 3 points we needed, but also for rankings since I believe Nepal is ranked 161 so this will help with our rankings as well

Bangladesh has beaten Bhutan by a score of 2-0

Thus after day 1 standings look like this

1) Bangladesh with 3 points ( 1 win goal differential +2)
2) Pakistan with 3 points ( 1 win goal differential + 1)
3) Nepal with 0 points ( 0 win goal differential -1)
4) Bhutan with 0 points ( 0 win goal differential -2)

KARACHI : Pakistan began their South Asian Football Federation (Saff) championship campaign, now known as the Saff Suzuki Cup, with a 2-1 victory against Nepal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The team is placed in Group A with hosts Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, while ranking-wise Pakistan is the lowest in the region.

Asian Games football: Pakistan bag first victory after 44 years

However, they took on Nepal and led 1-0 at the interval courtesy Hassan Bashir, who scored from a penalty-kick.

Nepal returned a fiercer side in the second half, equalising the score in the 82nd minute with a goal through Bimal Gharti Magar, but Mohammad Ali snatched away that one point from Nepal, leaving them with a heart-break as he scored for Pakistan in the last minute of the extra-time.

Before Tuesday’s victory, Pakistan last won their opener in Saff championship in 2005.

PFF announces Pakistan squad for Sept 4 SAFF championship, finally

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s best performance at the Saff championship had been in 1997 when the team finished third, while Pakistan last played in the event in 2013, before the Pakistan Football federation (PFF) fell apart due to its internal politics.

The debacle left the players without action from 2015 till August this year, when the country participated at the Asian Games.

Pakistan will play tomorrow September 6th Agaisnt home side Bangladesh this will be a tough game since Bangladesh is a decent side , and also have the home advantage as well. Pakistan will have to play well and try to have more possession as well. I do believe the first goal of the game will be crucial. The second half will be important for Pakistan since fatigue will be an issue as well.

I still believe Pakistan will come through final score prediction Pakistan 2 Bangladesh 0

Should be good shooting practice for Bangladesh tomorrow. It should be a stroll in the park and too much energy shouldn't be expended so Bangladesh can start preparing for the knockouts.

Yeah when Bangladesh loses tomorrow they can go for a stroll in the park and thing about the loss :p

Group B action today, the only game today featured India taking on Sri Lanka, with India winning by a score of 2-0

Pakistan forward Adnan Mohammed is having visa issues, and is unable to join the national team, that is a big loss

Nepal beat Bhutan today by a score of 4-0. Bhutan were down to ten men during the 69th minute of the match

Halftime Pakistan 0 Bangladesh 0 very good first half by Pakistan good amount of possession defence looking good as well and some good chances created by Pakistan, from the set pieces Pakistan has had some good chances I think easily Pakistan should have had one goal atleast but you need to convert your chances the big test will come now in the second half since fatigue seems to be a factor with this team

Goaaal 85th minute and Bangladesh take the lead 1-0 this Second half has been all Bangladesh

Bangladesh had 60% of the possession and more than double the number of shots as Pakistan did. Should have been 3 or 4 nil.

Given I watched the game, I can safely say that 1-0 is a good result for BD. It could well have been a draw. Pakistan got the best chance of the game when the keeper made a massive save .

Bangladesh only came to life during the second half, but were able to make a chance count, first half was in pakistans favor, but they were not able to convert, as mentioed previously the real test for Pakistan has been the second half they look all over the place, and look really tired, this needs to be looked at, it will get better with the more games they play. Regardless kudos to Bangladesh for winning the game, the group is truly open now, with Pakistan playing their last game against Bhutan

Group A standings after today results

1 ) Bangladesh 6 points with 2 wins and goal differential + 3
2) Nepal 3 points with 1 win and goal differential + 3
3) Pakistan 3 points with 1 win and goal differential 0
4) Bhutan 0 points with 0 win and goal differential -6

Pakistan will have to win their game with Bhutan, if Nepal draws or loses to Bangladesh than Pakistan should go through if they are to beat Bhutan

This could be a breakthrough year for Bangladeshi footballl. Their performance in the Asian Games was incredibly impressive and their performances so far in SAFF cup has been great. Their squad is very young....most players under age of 22.

Bangladesh must have played their B team then.

Nope Bangladesh had their full squad Pakistan were also missing Hassan Bashir that much and adnan Muhammad couldn't make it due to visa issues so two names missing and still a pretty decent result

So both hockey and football sides have same issues. They will play top notch in the first half of the game and then run out of steam in the latter stages and lose.

Jaan jaye leken nihari biryani na jaye

Also the other day I was watching the highlights of the Nepal game, the main striker for Pakistan had a really good shot on target which was prevented from being a goal only due to a great save by the Nepali keeper, at that point the striker lifted his shirt to wipe his face and you could see a belly with plenty of fat and undefined abs. Usually most footballers in the world have such low levels of body fat that you can see complete muscle definition all over their body and especially in the abs region.

Bhai they havent played together for 3 years. Dont you think its hard to maintain fitness levels?

Group B action only game in today Maldives vs Sri Lanka ended in Draw 0-0

Its brilliant for us. For sure India will win vs Maldives. And if they win by more than 2 goals then we might have an easy game is semis. And we will be in finals vs India. Then we might have a chance to even win SAFF cup.

If Pakistan do qualify for the semi finals, and they take on Maldives that wont be a walk in the park either, Maldives is pretty decent as well, and in semi finals regardless of the sport, or even team, its really anyways game at that point of time.

Pakistan will be in action tomorrow and will play their final group game VS Bhutan, followed by Bangladesh taking on Nepal.

Maldives didnt beat Sri Lanka. And I am sure they are not that great side without Ali Ashfaq playing. I have recently followed football in South Asia and I can tell you that only other decent player in their team is Ali fasir. Eveyone else is not that good. even is we have to face maldives, I think we should be able to manage it. We have a good side.

We do have a good side but at the same time we have our fatigue issues which will get better with the more games we can play we should beat Maldives if we are to face them but again it won't be a walk in the park

I'm no expert, but from my observation, Pakistan doesn't know how to hold onto possession of the ball. They just take the ball and go straight for the attack. A lot of runs, and thoughtless kicks. No real passing and possession game, something they should perhaps work on.

Very true and also when they don't have the ball they don't look to move around as much either and a lot of times I see too many long balls

Also when in defense the general idea is to punt it forward rather than to play it around and pass your way out of defense. There is a reason we are ranked so low.

Should have been 4-0 now by Mohammad Ali misses a golden chance after Muhammad Adil sets up a very good chance . I say Muhammad Adil is clutch when ever he comes on the pitch he always looks dangerous and makes something happen even on Faheem goal he set it up what a player indeed. Finals score Pakistan 3 Bhutan 0

Exactly, this has been our problem since ages. Our players do not have enough fitness nor strength to play long ball game but they still pursue that style.

You can't get anywhere in football without fitness, it's not like cricket where you can still be a little lenient. Pakistan won't progress without working on their fitness levels.

Really hoping for a Nepal win over Bangladesh tonight, it would mean we get the easier game against the Maldives and probably meet India in the final.

We need Nepal to lose they have the same exact goal differential with us if they are to win depending on the goal differential they would advance, and maybe even knockout Pakistan because Bangladesh Nepal and Pakistan would all be at 6 points. At this point all three teams have the same goal differential which is plus 3. Ideal result would be Bangladesh win or their match ends in a draw
