Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif performance in domestic cricket after their return

Guys what are the chances for Salman Butt and Asif to return to the fold esp with Aaqib possibly in the running to be the next coach? I guess he is against the trio, isn't he?

Got to play your best players in my view.

so salman butt is selected for pakistan cup unfortunately asif was not pick by any side .how will salman butt perform ?great opportunity for butt to push his selection for england series

Seems Asif won't make the plane to England.
Maybe not, but Amir, Junaid and Rahat should cope out there.

He is probably more indispensable for the Tests in NZ and Australia at the end of the year.

I think a deal has been done within the PCB. They don't want all three fixers to tour England, and they need Salman Butt the most desperately - and he had the best political connections.

Who is England to make a deal on which players should or shouldn't be playing. They served punishment and were brought back by ICC. This tournament is not a big deal. It's only couple of matches. Lots of key guys are missing. Maybe they thought that he would be more useful in test then LO

Asif should've played over some of the parch33 players, disgusting as to how Asif has been treated since comeback in comparison to Amir getting royalty treatment.

PCB thick tank doesn't realize how much we need Asif AND Butt, they need to swallow their pride amongst other things, and fast track them as well.

Criminals or not, we are in dire straits and need all the help we can get performance wise.

Butt is worse and has no cricketing talent either.

A shame Asif wasn't picked.

3 left-armers?

Also, disagree with Junaid in Tests.

Wahab is doing fine, and if not him, I'd play Imran or Ehsan.

Actually, I'd bench Rahat and have both Wahab & Imran play (alongside Amir), with Rahat and Ehsan as cover.

Wapda have dropped Mohammad Asif for Waqas Maqsood ?

Or Asif is not in Pakistan ?

Was looking forward at Asif's Performance in FC Cricket.

where are all the butt supporters who jump on every micro stat they can? had he not failed miserably in the two fc games so far, they would be screaming their lungs out.

I didn't know that they made Butt the captain over Kamran Akmal. That's just the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

A person who was entrapped into fixing for a newspaper ahead of a person whom the prosecution identified in court as being linked with [self-censored to prevent deletion].

He has only batted twice, and scored 31 which is okay but not good, and 5 which is poor. Wait and see how he goes over a larger sample size.

It's bad timing, for sure, because Mohammad Hafeez's latest duck in front of Mickey Arthur has ensured that he won't be getting picked again.

Butt really has the golden luck or golden sifarish. Getting named as a captain of a major Lahore team in one year after the ban is over is definitely something.

Why is M. Asif being ignored?
And butt is everywhere.
Asif is finished. Isn't even good enough to break into our mediocre FC teams.

He should look for a coaching stint with Afghanistan or any other minnow.

There's a reason why one of them is incriminated, and the other is not. And I'm not going into that debate.

My point remains simple, Kamran Akmal despite his flaws and all that has been playing domestic cricket for five years and knows the players that he is playing alongside. He should lead the side and maybe in the second season, Butt can replace him.

Just as it was in the tournament that was recently concluded.

thats the first time youve ever mentioned a need for a larger sample size, usually you are very happy to quote ridiculously insignificant averages over a four game tour. not surprising to see the tail wag the dog.

he is performing precisely in line with his long term career averages - ie rubbish.

totally agree.

but entirely predictable given the incompetence, unprofessionalism and idiocy of the board. not really sending out the right signal for aspiring cricketers most of whom are likely to be emerging out of poverty, is it?

Where is Mohammad Asif?! I DEMAND ANSWERS. His return to the international side needs to be fast-tracked!

What message are you trying to send out? "Don't do it" or "Don't get caught"?

So it is officialy over for mohammad asif and salman butt starts as a captain. Am not shocked from pakistan cricket. Every weird thing is possible.

i am also not shocked at Ashraful return and soon after 2018 he will be ban team when his ban is over

To be honest, I am finding that the thing which clouds the issue the most is age.

I'm starting to suspect that Mohammad Asif is actually around 37 or 38, and incapable of bowling fast enough to come back.

But the Salman Butt issue is more complex. Officially he is the same age as Azhar Ali, and slightly older than Asad Shafiq, and they in turn are around 4 or 5 years younger than Mohammad Hafeez and a decade younger than Misbah and Younis.

But is that true? TalentSpotterPk writes that Azhar Ali is the father of a 17 year old son, while we all know that Salman Butt's eldest son is 5 years old.

My current take on this - and it changes frequently :) - is that

1) Mohammad Amir is probably around 26, and so offended at the age of 20, not 18, and has a 6-8 year international career ahead of him.

2) Mohammad Asif may well be around 37 or 38, and is finished.

3) Salman Butt is probably a year or two younger than Azhar Ali, and has around 5 years left as a potential international cricketer.

Azhar Ali's son is 12 he follows me on Twitter.

Thanks, good to know.

That being the case, and making allowances for Salman Butt being from a higher social demographic and therefore likely to have kids later, I'll assume that Azhar Ali and Salman Butt are probably both just 32 - it was apparently Butt's birthday yesterday.

I think that it will probably work very well for Pakistan if Hafeez is retired from Tests now and Misbah and Younis in January.

That would leave Mickey Arthur with the following Top Six in the West Indies:

1. Sami Aslam (21 then)
2. Salman Butt (32)
3. Azhar Ali (32)
4. Babar Azam (21)
5. Umar Akmal (27)
6. Asad Shafiq (31)

That's a terrific mix of ages.

No, I never wrote that he is 17.

He looks like 13,14 and that is what I wrote.

Thats a good lineup but I would rather give Fawad Alam a chance instead of Umar Akmal.Fawad deserves it on merit.Statistically Fawad is much better and reliable. However Umar should perform in LOI's and FC to get a spot in the team.

Nobody knows whether he is Unfit or he is being benched ¿

There is No News at all.

It was reported that he will be playing second round i.e match two of Qea trophy but he is not part of playing eleven. Let's wait for few days.

What message are you trying to send out? "Don't do it" or "Don't get caught"?

what kind of message do you think is sent out when someone captains their side, is imprisoned for his actions based on treachery and greed, brings unprecedented shame to his country and five years later is reinstated as captain?

In June 2012 when Butt was (on paper anyway) 28 he looked like this...

Sure stress etc was a factor back then but he looked sigificantly older than 28 back then.

Salman Butt refuses to let PSL snub get to him

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt said he has not been disheartened by being overlooked at the drafting ceremony for the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), vowing to carry on his bid to revive his international career.

Both Butt and fast-bowler Mohammad Asif, who served five-year bans for spot-fixing along with Mohammad Amir, were included in the players’ draft after being ignored in the list for the inaugural edition.

Amir had turned out for Karachi Kings in the first edition and many thought the remaining two of the ‘tainted trio’ might feature in the second PSL.

But all five franchises decided against picking the duo at the drafting ceremony held in Dubai on Wednesday. Butt was included in the Gold category while Asif was named in Silver.

The left-handed Butt had impressed in the National T20 Cup, amassing 350 runs in eight innings for Lahore Whites to finish as the second-highest run-getter.

“It was an honour to be included in the draft but honestly I wasn’t very hopeful,” Butt told The Express Tribune. “It would have been good if I had been selected but I am not disheartened by the snub. I still have plenty of time and I hope I will be a part of the league one day.”

Butt revealed he is focusing on first-class cricket for the time being. “My main priority nowadays is first-class cricket. I am giving my best in order to catch the eyes of the selectors,” said the opening batsman, who is leading WAPDA in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

“I have regained a lot of my old confidence by playing at domestic level,” he added. “My National T20 performance was also a boost for me. I am working hard on my fitness and am satisfied with my overall progress.”

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief selector Inzamamul Haq had said earlier this month that Butt and Asif were being monitored by the selectors.

Many believe there is a reluctance to pick Butt due to his involvement in that infamous spot-fixing scandal, but the 32-year-old wants to focus on his own game rather than get caught up in such debates.

“I will continue the battle to revive my international career as I still have a lot of cricket left in me,” he said.

Butt was a mediocre player even before his ban. He has nothing new to offer to the Pak team, we already have better players than him atm. I hope he never gets selected again.

Why would he be disheartened, the guy got millions in his bank account anyway

Why was Asif in the drafts, he is banned from entry into UAE

His grey hair is not a reflection his age, my cousin is only 25 and his hair is very grey. He looks jaded and stressed in that pic, probably relapsed after abusing his haram money

People age in very strange ways. I am 31 years old but do not have a strand of grey hair on my head and people in the US, Canada complement me for giving 24-25 year olds a run for their money. I know a 24 year old has receding hair line and looks like a 30-31 year old already.

Do u rate his bowling at the moment and what do u know about Karachi kings emerging players? Unknown to me but could be very good.

His and his team players body language suggests that his magic is intact and they succeeded in traps they set for the batsman. I would like him to add another step to his follow through which is dying down prematurely. May be it's the Rust.

About which Emerging Player of KK you want to know about ?

Abrar Ahmed and amad Alam

Both are Under 19 players from Khi.

Ammad Alam is a Top Order Batsman while Abrar Ahmed is a bowler.

Ammad plays for Zone 2 and Abrar plays for Zone 3 in Khi.

Abrar was 2nd highest wicket taker in All Pakistan Inter district Under 19 Inter District tournament where he took 32 wickets at an Ave of 13 with 4 fivefers and 1 tenfer.

Both are Surprise picks and nobody has seen them Bat or bowl in televised matches. Rashid Latif may be the reason being them being picked.

haha man that's excellent. Asif at his best. He got that signature movement off the seam going again. AMAZING STUFF.
Junaids would be proud too.

Seems to be doing okay but nothing extraordinary. Waqas Maqsood doing a much better job for WAPDA than Asif.

Yes I posted that myself too!

Basically if Butt is finished, Babar Azam becomes not just the spare middle order batsman in NZ and Australia but the spare opener too!

Better hope that Starc doesn't break any hands or toes!

Oh right, am guessing you also watched Babar bat in the 2nd innings vs the WI during the 1st Test!

TalentSpotterPk It reminds me of Asif making a comeback to the ODI team during the champions trophy vs Australia, think it was either Clarke or Cameron white who get out in similar fashion; it was seam movement right came into the right hander

Spot On.

It was Cameron White who got bamboozled.

Similar delivery exactly.

Go on twitter and in the search box type in Mohammad Asif, then the moment you see a video which has been posted or quoted click on it

Holy Crap :O Just saw the video Goodness me !! TalentSpotterPk Junaids Vintage Asif this !!

Just wow.

Asif should be the first bowler on the team sheet Down Under.

I thought he'd lost it. I was wrong.

If you play an attack of:

Amir
Asif
Wahab
Yasir

It means that Wahab instantly becomes more of a threat, because the other three are so hard for batsmen to get on top of.

In the video of last match ie Asif's first Fc match after 6 years there was swing & seam but I was worried about his Follow through which was dying down prematurely after hardly 2 steps but in this video his follow through is back aswell which is very encouraging.

Selectors must take notice of it. Don't know whether any selector is on ground or not.

You of all people?!

CSvJt3hXIAA_tNi.jpg

I'm still doubtful about Butt. But he was never top class - just a good opener by awful Pakistan standards.

Asif is, I suspect, probably around 36 years old. And his lack of follow-through - until today's video - made me doubt his ability to return at this age.

But no team can afford weak link bowlers in Australia. If Asif returns, Pakistan's chances become much, much stronger.

Who is more likely to dismiss Burns, Khawaja and Mitch Marsh? Sohail Khan or Mohammad Asif?

These days I am extremely busy due to work and other stuff, bro can you tell me how's his fitness ?? I mean if hypothetically we take him to NZ and Aus can he bowl 25 overs an innings ?? Remember the pitches in Australia are super flat these days and there is not much lateral movement to begin with....

Given his lanky frame would he be able to sustain the work load since team Misbah has this grind mentality in test matches in down under the workload for pacers would be more than the spinners.

Would also like Junaids insights on how the pitches might play out this summer in Australia. What is the expected nature of the tracks for each venue..

Asif most certainly but it all depends on how favorable the selectors will be towards him, Khan can also bat a bit which Mickey loves

I was asif's big fan.. missing his special.. i mean what a waste of talent... what today's cricket is missing.. I want him playing. but what can we do.. only he is to blame for his actions
