Did you see the match?? After it nabI was asked about playing with his idol KP. Don't know how you correlated the two. Cricinfo used that interview.

Nabi mentioned how KP told him to counter Misbah's reverse sweep and where to set the field.

In the first match also when Nawaz got Billings bowled he went staright to KP pointing towards him.

This post proves mine as well - I'm not sure Sarfraz gets any credit for captaincy. I doubt the players really think of him as the strategic head either

Um no. Commentators keep saying "Quetta have not learned tonight." Consistently bowling short - have not seen Sarfraz ONCE speak to his bowlers or adjust the bowling plan.

If that isn't brainless captaincy while you're getting smashed, I don't know what is.

He's already done the damage. Every commentator was shocked literally that "They have not learned" - bowlers bowling short garbage consistently and getting smacked.

Surely a "brilliant tactician" would notice that?

What are your opinions about his pathetic keeping today? Missing a stumping and 3 catches? Also, why didn't the brilliant tactician talk to his bowlers and get them to stop bowling short?

Today he was horrible agreed but how many stumping chances and Catches did he drop in the NZ series let alone in the first few PSL matches he isn't the best but he is certainly better than Kamran who everybody wants him to be replaced with.

Captaincy Race : Sarfaraz Ahmed leading by a margin

5 PSL Captains, Afridi retiring, Misbah retired, Azhar doesn't play T20I. Competition for Pakistan next T20 captain is Between Malik and Vice Captain Sarfraz.

Till date, Malik is disappointment. Poor team selection. No motivation in team.
On the other hand, Sarfraz is doing excellent job. He promoted Nawaz and let his batting talent display. Excellent bowling changes.

Sarfaraz is way ahead of Malik and winning the race for next T20 captain.

NOTE: Sarfaraz also sideline KP so he may not steal the credit. Away from bowlers and camera.

Is Saifi more animated and more hyper than Virat Kohli as a captain ?

Virat has slightly calmed down now as a leader & player. Or let's see in Asia cup, world T20 & IPL.

Sarfaraz Gets too hyper and jumps around like a kid. Also gets very nervous when going gets tough and starts biting his nails this spreading a negative air of nervousness around him.

Needs to control his emotions and keep calm in order to really make a case for captaincy

Captaincy is not just about results my friend.

There was a time when unarguably Stephen Fleming was the best captain in Odi & Test cricket and yet Pakistani , Australian , Indian and Srilankan captains were winning more matches than New Zealand.


In the last domestic T20 tournament Imad Wasim looked the second best captain to me as a tactician & as a leader both on and off the field yet islamabad lost I guess 3,4 matches under his leadership.


Sarfraz usually makes lesser errors in keeping than Kamran & Rizwan but in second last match he missed two three chances against spinners where it seemed that mentally he wasn't there and was thinking about field placings and bowling changes and those chances were missed due to drift of concentration for few seconds as a keeper.


If you just go by results and personal performances than wrt Shoaib Malik has achieved alot in domestic T20 cricket as a captain and as a batsman. He won sialkot many matches where only he stood between opposition winning matches and delivered knocks under pressure when most needed.


I believe Pakistan's captain should be our best batsman or best bowler of the format. The best performer.

The problem is that all the cities & countries where bowl of fast medium or fast bowlers seams or swings there Shoaib Malik won't be our best batsman in playing eleven. He struggles alot. Plus the short ball issue. But than the second argument comes that in T20 cricket mostly wickets are spin friendly or flat belters so Malik won't struggle.

Regarding Sarfraz yes he should play as wk batsman in odis & T20's too until we find a better wk batsman than him in these formats (not kamran or rizwan) but I don't think he is our best batsman in odi or T20 cricket.

Our best batsman is Umar Akmal. But

A. He is controversial character

B. He isn't a good thinker or tactician.


Our best bowler is Mohammad Amir

A. He is mentally very astute & sharp.

B. Reads the game very well.

C. He is controversial aswell.


So we have lots of problems. We do not have any ideal option for captaincy in our T20 , Odi or Test team.
 
no question Sarfraz is the front runner for T20I and ODIs (once Azhar is inevitably sacked)

He's an underrated batsmen and one of the very few (3?) players thats an automatic selection in all 3 teams, so he there's a succession plan for even when Misbah retires sometime in 2016

he's consistency produced results, and as long as he does that I don't mind the captain being animated and push the team hard
 
The guy has impressed in tactics and smart bowler rotations.

He's a very intelligent guy, it shows from his prompt field placements, bringing in appropriate bowlers according to batsmen at crease and his behind the stump advising to the spinners.

He's a package. Hope we don't waste captaincy by giving it to TTF Malik (who was beyond terrible in his first instint)
 
no point in making Malik next captain as he is unlikely to play next T20 WC. need to back Sarfraz
 
First Sarfraz has to prove that his keeping in improving. As of halfway through PSL, I have seen him miss at least 3 chances, easy ones too.

So why make someone captain when he is not even a confident keeper and fumbles.

Besides.....I am not sure you have seen PSL games ball by ball...or you would know who is captaining/leading the gladiator players.

No competition. Malik is a cricketing mastermind. Some of his tactical decisions look suspect to the human eye at that moment, only when the game finishes you realize the masterstroke it was.

KP is doing the brunt of the work, maybe he should be our next captain :farhat

Malik has been failed to lift the team. He is not communicating good with players.
 
Malik is more experienced and a calm character.But Sarfraz is the future.Sarfraz should be given captaincy as Malik is unlikely to the play the next WC.

I know Sarfaraz did not drop a single catch or miss stumping in NZ series otherwise you would have bumped that Sarfaraz is a bad wicketkeeper thread.

And I also know that he has only fumbled in one PSL game till know courtesy you

Captain should be a person whose own place in the team can not be questioned. Can we say this for sarfaraz? Dont think so.

This man's the difference between others and an underrated underdogs Gladiators.

Top stuff so far, even though they threw my team out of the tournament (ISLU) :( :(

Won't be surprised if he ends up winning the tournament for Quetta.

True but It also depends on the player's role in the team and if he is dispensable (i.e. without hurting the balance of the team much).

Biting nails hardly proves anything. Ponting never needed a nail cutter in his life, just a pressure situation and his teeth.
 
Undoubtedly the best cricketing brain in Pakistan.

The 'fake' brain in Don :malik got badly exposed. He doesn't have the batting so Hare Krishnas were only relying on the 'brain' argument.

Hasn't malik won like 70 percent of the Pakistan domestic t20 tournaments? For me its still malik.
 
Though Sarfi getting lot of help from KP, but still i would like to see him as a captain of our team after WT20.
 
Sarfraz is an intelligent captain. But he is not suited for T20s as a batsman.

Undoubtedly. Very very clever cricketer. Just listen to him behind the stump mic during test matches. I still dont think hes suited to LOIs but thats my opinion. Not dynamic enough

you're right, he's not dynamic (1-D, not a power hitter). But guys like him are a must on ODIs, and he even adds value in T20s as a batsmen

he's constantly picking up singes and he's a very good runner b/w wickets. Just look at his strike rate- does any Pakistani batsmen have a SR of 85+ in ODIs in the last decade (I can only think of UAkmal)

Sarfraz and Malik should be the core of the ODI batting line up. Its guys like Azhar who bat like its still 1996

Babar, Hafeez and Haris(when fit) are your core. Akmal too if we make him open. Can be good in powerplay overs.

Makes the team just on his street smartness and awareness of the game.

Plus like someone else mentioned, he's one of the only players who maintain a constantly high strike rate.

The only other bat would be Umar Akmal.

A must in ODIs and Tests, good utility in T20s too ahead of poor bats like Malik.

Haris hasn't played meaningful cricket in over 6 months, and no one knows when he'll play again or how good he can still be- can't plan for him much

Babar, Akmal and Hafeez are the impact players, you'll have to have guys like Malik and Sarfraz who just keep getting quick singles, and convert singles into doubles- they all bring value to LOI batting

I know that but exceptions dont make a rule. I am not saying sarfaraz is a bad player. I am just saying he needs a bigger role in the team. Coming in at number 7 in ODIs and t20s and then playing useless knocks like 40 off 47 or 25 off 22 doesn't say much. To top it all off he isn't a world class wicket keeper as well.

He needs to be given a bigger role in the team, maybe a number 4 or 5 batsman where he can really contribute substantially and have some sort of impact on the game.
 
He is one lucky to have good team players as well who are responding to him at the right time.

Just saw the scorecard, strange captaincy by Malik, didn't even give one over to Mir Hamza. Was Hamza injured?
