Bowling changes, shuffling the batting order and field placings were also because of luck?
 
How he controls the field, bowling changes etc. from behind the stumps is very impressive.

Microphone catches it most of the times.

Simply brilliant. Like I've been saying, the best cricketing brain in PAK.

Can't say he's the best yet, but he's better certainly than our current LOI captains. Some people just won't admit that he's been the best in the PSL thus far.
 
He will be tested today! A low total on the board against Zalmi's strong batting order. Let's see how he uses his spinners and what field he sets for them.

Brilliant innings today, contender for the performance of the tournament.
 
Needs to have an extra player, at least, in the circle. Total is too low and can be picked off in just singles.

I've been impressed with what I've seen so far. He was so annoyed of himself when he got out in the fashion that he did. I like that. It shows he takes responsibility and understands the value of his wicket.

Also liked how he while walking back shouted for the batting order to be changed. Really think he has it in him to lead the side but there's room for improvement in his performances.
 
He might have that Dhoni luck with him. He is a decent wicket keeper batsman but I didn't see anything special in his captaincy in the match against Zalmi defending a small total. He gave away singles which reminded me of Misbah, Afridi.

Haven't watched Quetta much this PSL but I saw him captain in domestic. He's pretty good tactically. Sets good trap fields. Knows when to attack and defend.
 
He wouldn't be my first thought as captaining material for Pakistan tbh, but seeing as how bad Azhar Ali's been I rather my Grandad be given a chance too.

The brilliant tactician specifically requested for :anwara ahead of Elliott, Nawaz and Nabi. Allrounder :anwara didn't disappoint either with his might hacks and swings and misses.

In Tests, but he reads the game in Limited Overs as well as any captain I've seen, and knows how to maximize his resources to the fullest.

I think his most underrated feature as captain is his utilization of part-time bowlers.

I don't have a problem with your personally but I do have a problem with flippant statements e.g. he wouldn't be my first choice and so forth. If not Azhar then who??
 
Looks well set to become our T20 Captain after the World Cup.

Mian Malik has lost it.
 
I honestly think he's the only choice for captain. He may not be a "brilliant tactician" but he has a sound understanding of the game, and is clearly (domestic, U19, PSL) a good leader

Plus, with Afridi and Misbah months away from retirement and Azhars complete failure as ODI captain, Sarfaraz is the only person that can lead all 3 teams, and is going to be around long term.
 
Not sure over the long-term bit. He is around 30 years old and has the fitness of a 40 year old. Not to mention a mediocre Limited Overs batsman.

I don't have a preference, that's the point of my original post.

It's hardly a flippant statement either, I see no improvement under his captaincy and we've only gotten worse since his leadership, or lack there of.

Hell maybe going back to Malik may be the only solution, in the short term that is.

Once again I also state I don't have an issue with Sarfraz, my point was I never pictured him as a captain when talking about who will lead the side. Nothing against him, but picturing it wasn't easy, that's all. Nothing negative in that.

Or Rizwan, Azhar Ali, Shafiq and lest not forget the imperious K Akmal, and yet Sarfraz is the one that gets slammed on here.

I said it before if we have a good replacement then fair enough, but seeing as don't...

Has a higher chance of succeding Malik ; based on PSL standings,

6/8 times Sarfraz as compared to Malik's 2/8 times

Likelihood of Sarfraz winning you the game compared to Malik = 3:1
 
In conclusion the probability of Sarfraz winning you a game is 3 times more than the likelihood of Malik winning you one based on captaincy skills. Squad strength goes in favor of Malik, despite these odds Sarfraz comes out trumps.


Definite captaincy candidate. More likely to be our next captain now that has fallen like a House of cards.

I think he's a good replacement in t20's. He can hone his skills and we can push him towards the ODI's. Azhar for me was always a stop gap because sarfraz hadn't done his "residency" yet. I also preferred him over azhar but I like azhar coz he is a hardworker and gives his all. It doesn't help when you have a team low on quality too.

That is the problem you see, the exaggerations. His keeping never has and never will be 'brilliant'. He is a mediocre keeper. Obviously you missed the match few days ago where he missed three stumpings in one game.

You can add couple of years to every Pakistani player if we're being honest. I highly doubt he was the captain of the U-19 team in 2006 at the age of 18. His fitness is not good though, he looks exhausted after 30 deliveries and his keeping is not good. Just look at his belly.

None of the players mentioned are options for captaincy, are they? The reason why I'm against sacking Azhar so soon is because chopping and changing captains/coaches has never yielded good results in Pakistan cricket and only catalyses instability and grouping.

We find ourselves in an unfortunate position where we don't have a player who is performing + has good captaincy credentials. Hafeez is one player who fits the ball but again, he is almost 35-36 now, and is thus not a long-term option.

Sacking Azhar and Waqar is not the answer to our Limited Overs woes, we simply don't have good enough cricketers.

We can make Babar Azam the captain like South Africa did with Graeme Smith at 23 years of age if he continues his good performances.

Babar or Haris, both are good candidates. The latter is of course subject to fitness.

In 2-3 years, Root will captain England, Smith, Kohli and Williamson will of course be captains of their respective teams as well and de Kock will probably captain SA.

We need a top drawer batsman in his mid to late 20's who captains the team and can match these batsman if we are to compete with such teams across all formats.

It is a shame that players like Umar, Maqsood, Shehzad etc. haven't exhibited enough ability and most importantly maturity to lead the team.

Not sold on Haris for captaincy purely because he has far too many fitness issues has missed 2 FC seasons because of it incase you dont know he missed half of the previous season as well because he got injured and missed this one completely.

All that sarfi touches is turning to gold, saw on twitter everyone was surprised cheema was getting the last over. Turns out cheema bowled the best over of his life after he did in the Asia cup.. true genius!!!

Cheema bowled brilliantly. He's very good at the death, in fact a specialist.

He defended 9 runs in the asia cup final 4 years ago and he's done it again...

Because they will duel man to man? I agree it would be nice, but we may have to consider the possibility that someone of that caliber won't be unearthed any time soon. I'd settle for just very good, enough to deserve a place in the team, but with a sharp tactical brain. The latter would be positively refreshing.
