Shahid Afridi speaking to a media outlet

"You have to keep pressure. The stronger the bench is, the more careful the player will be about his performance. Rizwan hasn’t been performing, and I believe that on tours like this, Sarfaraz could have been given an opportunity"

“The biases about cities is going on for a long time now. Someone will say, ‘this guy is from Karachi, or this guy is from Lahore’ (while talking about selection in the team). I don’t think these things should happen. Insaan ke bacche ban jayen to behtar hai"

Someone needs to remind him what is Rizwan's current ranking. I dont think Sarfaraz ever got that high. Its a ridiculous notion. We need to move on from Sarfaraz. Afridi should practice what he is preaching right now.

Sarfraz should retire by now instead he is selected in the squad.

Excellent comments. Rizwan has been joy-riding in the Test and ODI team

To throw Sarfaraz in the mix suddenly would have been a disaster also.

Karachi based players and journalists keep backing Sarfraz. The truth is Sarfraz is a below average player. He was ok for a couple of years but he went downhill. He loses his cool as a captain. It is embarrassing to see him lead QG in PSL.

If they wanted Riwan at 4 they could have played Sarfraz instead of Fawad

On what basis did Sarfaraz deserve a recall?

In my opinion he was lucky to be in the Test squad.

Lol saw the article and immediately knew that you'd be here. Understandable from an ODI perspective as Riz needs to up those numbers but what terrible form is he in for tests? Yes he could've contributed more in the runs this past SL series but 20-40 run scores in general aren't bad scores. The only criticism here is him batting at 4-5 in which, yes these 20-40 runs aren't good enough but joy-riding in the test team? Nah bro.

Rizwan isn't seen as a Babar-type batsman in the sense where you look to him to score those match-winning hundreds. Riz ain't joy-riding in any team + Sarf hasn't done squat to get back in the XI, let alone test XI. The only joy-rider here is Sarfraz on the bench.

Not saying Sarfraz should have played instead of Rizwan but Rizwan was playing at no 4 so you would expect him to score much higher than 20-40 range.

Always noticed that Afridi has a weird bias against Rizwan. Even when he was performing well, Afridi was hesitant to give him the credit he deserved and then as soon as bit of a slump hit, he's quick to say that Rizwan isn't performing.

Don't know what it is, but the with the number of performances that Rizwan has given, he surely deserves backing for a while.

I don't think so.

Rizwan is doing fine.

Sarfaraz could've replaced Fawad Alam though.

Although I don't agree with him on this occasion but on these pages I have stated about our WKs starting well and then falling away as the competition loses form or retires. Riz needs strong competition and Afridis suggestion will help him to focus.

Rizwan batting higher up the order will get criticised for any batting failures as one would for any specialist batsmen.

He should, like Safraz bat in the lower order whereby there would be zero expectation in scoring any runs.

Yeah I mentioned this already. If he bats at 4-5, which he shouldn't, then 20-40 run scores aren't good enough. These scores hold more of a weight when he's batting 6-7. All in all, he isn't scoring consistent single digit scores so him being replaced with Sarfraz is total hogwash since Sarfraz himself hasn't had any sort of good consistent scoring of note for a while.

If they ain't going to play Sarfraz then they need to induct a young keeper in the squad.

Looks like Shahid Afridi’s batting is not the only thing about him that is brainless. I usually support Afridi, for all his many flaws, but these comments are just so unhelpful and, frankly, stupid.

The reason Sarfraz cannot get into this team is because Mohammed Rizwan is one million times better than him. If Sarfraz wants to play, he has to score a tonne of runs and show that he’s a specialist batsman, and I’m afraid he’s not good enough to be one.

That said, anyone breathing could replace Azhar Ali right now, and neither Fawad nor Agha Salman having done anywhere near enough to secure a spot. Even so, there are just way better specialist batsmen right now than Sarfraz (e.g. the fact that Shan Masood isn’t walking into this team right now is a travesty), and so Sarfraz just has no chance.

Our ex-cricketers should be wholeheartedly supporting our players, especially our absolute superstars who are Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan. Afridi’s motive here in supporting Sarfraz is simply for the benefit of his friendship with Sarfraz. It is not for the betterment of Pakistani cricket. That is completely and utterly wrong and a selfish Lala such as this is not one I am used to seeing.

its will be going backwards , Rizwan is doing very well but of course he is not No.4 batsman.

Yes, going to a 35 year old as backup option in tests from a 29 year old keeper in the natural transition which every team around the world does.

Even if Sarfaraz is that great of a player of spin, they could have played him as a batsman rather then as a backup keeper which should be someone younger than Rizwan.

Rizwan is being played out of position, that's all. Thick tank are trying to paper over the cracks rather than trying to resolve issues.

No point in going to back to guys that are around 35 - 40 years old, although this is a favourite Pak cricket tactic.

Sarfraz is an old yeller, who of a sane mind would advocate this guy at this point over Wisden’s cricketer of the year. Some of ya”ll need to be drug tested

They should bring Rohail Nazir or haseebullah in the squad instead of Sarfraz

The only guy good enough to keep well and score valuable runs below the age of 21 is Mohammad Haris

From being a huge Afridi fan, my respect for this man has depleted. I can’t deny his charity work but his comments over the years have been ridiculous.
