ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan Test fast bowler and inventor of reverse swing Sarfraz Nawaz lashes out at Pakistan Cricket Board for dropping Ammad Butt from T20 series against West Indies without giving him chance against England in the one-off T20.

Sarfraz while talking to The Nation on Thursday demanded chief selector Inzamamul Haq to explain on what grounds a player, who was not tried, was dropped and how Chairman Shahryar Khan gave approval.

He further said Pakistan outclassed England in the one-off T20 International that was truly a great achievement for green caps and normally winning combination is not disturbed.

He said it was quite strange to witness that a fresh youth, who performed well in domestic cricket and managed to get included for the England T20, was dropped without providing any opportunity.

“West Indies had a good competitive squad after playing well against India and they should not be taken easy. The pitches in Caribbean’s are almost identical to UAE and they could pose serious challenge to green caps and Pakistan team being lying down at number 7 in ICC T20 rankings can’t afford to further downslide.”

He said Afridi issue is keep on haunting Pakistan cricket. “Boom Boom had made it very clear he would retire from all formats after World T20 and that was the reason he was named captain of the national team, but now he wants to carry on, which is not logical. Pakistan cricket must look forward and must plan for next year’s World T20 rather than thinking on Afridi. Sri Lanka keeping in mind for future, showed the door to highly successful all-rounder Dilshan. Afridi’s recent performances in English County are enough to show he had well past his peak and that is the reason he was not offered contract for next years’ County season.”

He said if selectors were again thinking on the lines of including Afridi then again groupings would surface and the atmosphere of the dressing room would be badly hampered. He said T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has a winning mentality and team would be spoiled had Afridi once again included.

Sarfraz also lambasted poor selection of players for the ODIs against England as there were no all-rounders in the Pakistan squad. Inzamam must inform the nation why genuine strikers of cricket ball like Ahmed Shahzad and Umar Akmal were not included.

He said it was only personal liking and disliking and it was not the case of temperament or behaviour as Inzamam was well-known for his short temper and never listened to anybody even not President Musharraf. He said it was Inzamam’s pathetic team selection that resulted in embarrassing defeats for Pakistan as Pakistan were well-short of quality players.

Sarfraz said after Hassan Ali’s arrival there is a huge question mark on M Aamir’s inclusion in the playing XI as he was a super flop in England. He failed to spearhead bowling and could not swing the ball or control his line and length.

He backed Azhar Ali to continue as ODI captain for at least another season. “First, the PCB didn’t pick Azhar for ODIs for two years but now when he is slowly getting into form and getting matured it would be injustice to drop him or replace him as captain. It was not Azhar’s poor captaincy but a highly pathetic team selection that led to Pakistan failure.”

Sarfraz said Azhar gave match-winning performances in Test series while batting at number three as there were certain elements, who wanted to make Azhar flop as skipper. He claimed that Wasim Akram had formulated a group consisting Karachi players, who play main role in inflicting damages to national team and flopping Azhar. He said Shahryar while appointing Azhar as skipper doesn’t consulted anybody as it is chairman’s prerogative, now Chairman must answer the nation why he formulated a two-member committee comprising Inzamam and Subhan to decide Azhar’s fate?

Wasn't as bad as I expected, speaks some sense. Agree with everything apart from the Amir and Umar/Ahmed statements.

The murmurs are only going to get stronger. Inzi is not doing a good job AT ALL.

This stint of Inzi is more and more feeling like his last few seasons as captain.

Amir haters are going to have a field day.

Sarf Nawaz has always spoken mostly sensible stuff on cricketing matters. Spot on about Afridi and Azhar.

Just trolling on Shehzad.

Strange to see this coming from you... Inzi and Mickey are the only light at the end of tunnel for pak LOI prospects... Mickey has a clear cut plan for players who he believe can be worked on and take forward, Moreover to achieve such results both coach and selector should work together. People jumping on Ammad butt's exclusion, but what i feel is Mickey is trying to get him ready for NZL/AUS tour where u need a fast bowling allrounder but not required for UAE.. rather wasting time in the bench in UAE, he can be worked on with the NCA coaches and get ready for the tough tours coming ahead... Mickey is a professional coach and Inzi i have no doubt about his commitment to work for the country...If ppl cry for INZI being the selector then they obviously deserve Ilyas, Qasim and Bari as selectors...

Umar and Shehzad needs to be in the team against WI.. Also have heard a lot about Amad butt is he good enough can be tried out in international matches?

Indeed, only AR in Pak domestic who can bowl with 140+ pace and can bat good.

But poor kid got dropped without even getting chance.

Umar Akmal has returned to T20I team, i dont see any chance of Shehzad and tbf, Shezzi should not come.

Load of tosh again from SN.

This article shouldn't have been posted since the person in question has frequently in the past made illogical and delusional comments.

Bakwaas Nawaz at it again. Shehzad a clean striker of the ball ? Wasim Akram plotting to form a Karachi group to oust Azhar ?

And of course, it was team selection that cost us the ODI series and nothing to do with the fact England are miles ahead of us in every department in that format.

LOL this guy is smoking some strong stuff.

Good for Ammad Butt that he is dropped. We have witnessed fate of enough premature debuts in Last 20 years. In a career of 15 years, Better to lose 3-4 years at start rather than losing years midway through your career courtesy stagnation and ineffective understanding of game.

Premature debuts have mostly ruined budding careers because may be these youngsta beuties assume that all of a sudden work ethics change after making a debut. After debuting so early they spend next decade, with their approach, shuffling in conundrum of Talunt vs Work Ethics.

Ammad Butt, and for that matter everyone, should understand the essence of "What doesn't kill me, Makes me stronger".

Not everyone is destined to "Veni,Vidi,Vici".

He is no different than his predecessors.

Don't know what he wants, he is not happy with anything finally our team is getting a little better and now again he is demanding changes though I agree on Afridi point no need to include him again. Questioning Amir why he didn't question Babar Azam performance he was also a big flop why he didn't say anything about Professor Sahab ? he himself had bad behavior issues and off course and now he is favoring bad boys.

PCB stops monthly pension of Sarfraz Nawaz for violating 'players welfare policy'

KARACHI: The has stopped the monthly pension of former fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz for violating the board's "players welfare policy".
Sarfraz, who is now settled in the UK, has also filed a petition in a local court against the Pakistan board for restoration of his pension and clearance of arrears.

"Going to court against the board is a breach of the players welfare policy as is constantly criticizing and insulting board officials and players,” a reliable source in the board said.

He made it clear that Sarfraz's pension was also stopped in the past by previous set-ups because of his habit of appearing on electronic and print media and making unsubstantiated claims against the board and national team players

"He has also been cautioned in the past not to tarnish the image of Pakistan cricket," the source said.
Sarfraz is known for critical comments on and in the past has made serious allegations of match and spot-fixing against players and officials.
The tall pacer played 55 Tests and 45 ODIs and is famous for nine wickets spell at Melbourne against Australia in 1979.

He is considered the inventor of reverse swing bowling.
