Are you excited about AlBaik's arrival in Pakistan? What's your favorite AlBaik menu item?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Popular Saudi food chain “AlBaik Food System Company” might be opening in Pakistan as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the company and Gas and Oil Pakistan Ltd (Go) under the Saudi Ministry of Investment.

The Jeddah-based food chain’s broasted chicken, fries, delicious nuggets and a myriad of sauces are very popular among the people. Most of Pakistani expatriates believe that the visit to Saudi Arabia is incomplete without this delicious chicken.

Reflecting Saudi Vision 2030 to enhance exports of rich national expertise and open new horizons for Saudi commercial expansion globally, this agreement would explore the possibility of establishing a strategic partnership to set up and operate Al Baik restaurants in Pakistan, marking a key step in Al Baik’s expansion strategy across the country.

The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of Saudi Minister of Investment, Engineer Khalid Al-Falih, and high-ranking delegations from both Saudi and Pakistani sides in attendance.

This event is the result of the Saudi Ministry of Investment’s persistent efforts to empower Saudi brands to expand internationally and enhance the kingdom’s standing in the global economic arena.

Go, in which Saudi Aramco has acquired a 40% stake, is a leading player in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector. This partnership underscores the kingdom’s commitment to diversifying its economy and creating new growth opportunities in foreign markets.

This initiative highlights the crucial role played by the Saudi Ministry of Investment in realising the objectives of Vision 2030 and reinforcing the kingdom’s position as a leading economic force both regionally and globally.

AlBaik is a life saver in Saudi Arabia. One of the best places. Love it.

Hope it opens in Bharat also.

Extremely overrated. There is nothing special about it but it is going to do great business in Pakistan especially because of the “boycott KFC and McDonald’s due to Israel” clowns.

na bro!

Al-Baik is nowhere as good as KFC. People hype it too much in KSA because it is local. In Pakistan, it will do great business because of our mentality.

I totally agree with you that it will capture the market here. Al-Baik will be in every major city of Pakistan within 10 years.

why is an oil company interested in this?

anyways, i wished Popeyes had started proper operations here.

Al baik's business in Pakistan will depend upon its pricing and quality.

The hype I think began when there was no other options in Makkah and at that time that was the only place Al Baik was available. So people started to associate Al Baik with Umrah and Hajj. One of the questions asked upon return once people had asked all the religious stuff was - did you try Al Baik?

I found AlBaik better than KFC.

A safer option this for local employment.

KFCs usually get burned down during riots by religious zealots. Now mazhab ke theekedars need to think twice.

Arabic illiteracy is quite common, they might read it is Labaik and associate with god/prophet anyways.

Hard to believe that a Gujrati would not know the food habits of Indians.
Well Gujarati and Marwadi Jains often describe themselves as vegan abroad to avoid confusion. I have a friend who carries a whole suitcase of ready to eats whenever he travels abroad. Vegetarian food abroad doesn't quite cut it for him since he doesn't eat root vegetables.

Popeye’s opened in Bharat couple of years ago and it’s been great. Love their stuff.

AlBaik already exists in India. Plenty of outlets in TN, Kerala and the North East. They offer lots of veggie options too.

That's a knock off version not the real thing.

They are currently only in UAE and Saudi.

Al Baik is kinda overrated in my opinion. I wouldn't say KFC is better that that either. KFC is pathetic in Pakistan, beyond pathetic in Middle East and somewhat decent in UK. Al Baik might be slightly better than KFC but still overrated. Maybe I'm not a fan of fried chicken but I did like Texas Chicken in Middle East especially with their special jalapeno sauce

I wouldn’t trust anything happening in Kerala until i experience it myself. They’re master fraudsters. Deadly might be right about this one. I tried checking on the internet and they seemed like knockoffs mostly.

It needs to launch in UK. 4million Muslims in UK, will make it popular easily. Now that most are boycotting KFC and others!

Yes, they would make a killing here. It would be a holy endeavour, going there after Jummah, can imagine all the somaliens, yemenis and syrians flocking to it

They’re mostly ok with the Kukar, just not beef, they love their chicken curry but weirdly have it with rice mostly

Kukad and mutton are popular everywhere in Bharat. Mostly eaten with naan , roti etc.

Beef is famous in Kerala and North Eastern Bharat.

This is a knock off?

Jollibee > AlBaik(Dubai, don't know if other versions are different) > Popeyes > Local chicken shop > KFC

KFC has failed big time to maintain the consistency in their authentic taste across their stores. It’s a big problem in Bharat where KFC doesn’t taste like KFC anywhere.

lol That’s south and East Indians bro, Northies have tandoori naan or roti.

I think the ones I lived with ages ago were from the South/East then, you very rarely see anyone from the North here. They also use to cook mainly with red onions / mustard oil which was something new to me and completely changes the taste. The North probably has more similar food to what I would typically have, does that region have the best food?

It depends for example I would eat a dosa and rice dishes from South, Wheat and side dishes from north.

When I used to eat meat I loved Chettinad Chicken which is spicy south Indian dish. but at the same time I loved Kadai Chicken, Chicken tikka massala,Chilli Chicken(Indian Hakka).

So for me it’s dependent upon what I’m in mood for but I usually prefer Punjab because that’s what was made in my home even though I grew up in Chennai.

I definitely don’t enjoy Bengali and Malayalee core cuisines but they have great fusion food which I like.

One in town, not bad alternative to KFC, batter's a bit thicker and crunchier compared to KFC, plus do a spicy version which is no where as horrific as those dipped burgers that literally burn your mouth off.

KFC discontinued Cheeza man!! That has been the major food disappointment for me :(

Al-Bail in Saudi Arabia >> Al-Baik in UAE.

Can’t say anything about what’s going on in their Bharat branches without having a taste of it.

McDonalds and Burger King amended their menu because majority of Hindus are vegetarian back in the days when they launched. The mix up here is because all the Indian posters are denying that the majority are VEGAN which is quite different to being VEGETARIAN.
According to various surveys, approximately 30% of Indians are purely vegetarian. Given holy days, fasts etc., I've found when planning events to plan on about 40% vegetarians. Of course this varies a little from state to state but broadly holds in the many places I've lived in India.

Most Indians have never tasted pork or beef. Beef - for obvious reasons. It's legally available in limited states and even there only in certain areas. Pork - because most restaurants just don't want the hassle. Serving pork would mean completely losing Muslim customers.

For the most of the 60% of Indians who do eat non-vegetarian food, it means chicken, fish and mutton.

As far as veganism is concerned, I was explaining to someone on the thread that he may have just run into a Gujarati Jain. Those guys just use vegan as a shorthand for their dietary habits to avoid long explanations. Else there's no real concept of veganism in India.

Yes I'm sure while there is a significant vegan community in India, the vast majority who don't eat meat will be vegetarian.

So this Al-Baik, is is just a Halal KFC type of place or does it actually sell healthy food?

It won't do great business unless the food is up to standard. Consumers might try it, but if they prefer the taste of KFC they will revert to that. I'm sure you would be the first person to agree that religious sentiments in Pakistan don't usually go beyond the throat, when it comes to real life they will vote with their belles.

TBF, KFC is pretty much halal in most places now including UK. There's one just up the road from me.

Pakistani aren’t born with taste buds?

Yes the list is long, harder to find a non halal KFC type place then a halal one.

Personally I haven't eaten KFC/Fried Chicken in a very long time.
It's not healthy (even if its grilled) and Pakistan does not need another fast food franchise.
It needs affordable, healthy food alternatives.

In Pakistan they can eat whatever, good weather there, walk around all day like stray dogs with your buddies burning of all the giberish and then wait for that timely pay check to arrive from the UK. Like have you ever seen a fat/unhealthy Pakistani other then Azam Booger Khan First Of His Name?

I haven't eaten a KFC in a long time either, must be years now. But I do remember it was pretty damn tasty back then, how it would stand up now I can't say. Pakistan is relatively new to the fast food game, it's still in big growth over there, people are not that educated about it, but I guess they will catch up same way as everyone else did around the world when they are forced to look at each other looking like blimps who have to waddle from one location to the next.

What's funny is when I was a teenager I used to get told off for eating street food in Pakistan because it contained too much crap. It's not like this is super science, the older generations were probably a lot more conscious of not eating rubbish. Didn't they used to have an old Yoga concept of rajasic vs tamasic diet in ancient India?

Never tried Albaik. Would love to try.

Good to see KSA launching it in Pakistan.

Still tastes finger lickin' good. 😋

However, the cleanliness and sloppy service can leave a lot to be desired at some of the stores.

Dont know about other cities, but the fried chicken market sucks in Pindi/Islamabad. The problem is, there isnt any innovation and most business owners buy franchises to launder their black money.

No one bothers to study the menus or the customers and what are their buying behaviors or what they want.

When KFC came to the Pindi/Islamabad market and they started selling breaded fried chicken and made a zinger burger out of a Thigh Piece of chicken, every other fried chicken brand that opened up, they started selling chicken burgers/sandwiches of thigh piece.

There isnt a single fried chicken fastfood that sells burgers made of a breast piece. I had to go to Canada to have a popeyes chicken sandwich that was made of a breast fillet. The best Chicken burger i ever had.

Basically, thigh pieces are cheaper, and easier to cook, as their is fat. Not everyone knows how to fry a breast piece properly.

So there is a market in Pindi/Islamabad for fried chicken if proper innovation is bought in where the business owner looks into what pieces of chicken should be used. I think KFC is also the only restaurant that sells full wings.

If this Albaik focuses on the quality of chicken meat, it will do good here

@Mamoon how is Chiefs burger? Gonna go down to Peshawar to try it. Is it worth the hype?

This is a knock off?
Yeah lol the real Albaik is Albaik without a space.

This is Al Baik.

Quite smart actually.

Speak for yourself, most of us love KFC here in Pakistan. It is the one fast-food brand that is pretty much nationally loved.

If something as average as Cheezious can do amazing business in Pakistan, Al-Baik will destroy the market here because of its brand name and association with KSA.

Chief is very ordinary, but it has a huge market share and brand value in Peshawar because its the oldest fast food brand in the city and has its own loyal fan base who would swear that it’s the best thing ever even though they haven’t stepped outside Pakistan.

Pakistani people are big on convenient boycotts. They will criticize people for eating KFC and McDonald’s while using Android phones which is hilarious.

This is the reason why they have boycotted Coca Cola and Pepsi for pick off localized versions that are clearly inferior.

There is a local brand of fast food in Pakistan called Cheezious. It is very average, but it is currently kicking KFC and McDonald’s on the backside in terms of market share.

Al-Baik is going to do amazing here partly because some people would actually love its taste while others would think they are doing the Muslim community a service by prioritizing Al-Baik over western brands that are supporting Israel.

I think that's slightly different as when you introduce israel into the picture then because of their genocidal campaign in Palestine, people will override their taste buds to shun products which support their cause. We have seen this in Britain as well.

This is only really tested when your life is affected significantly not with a slightly different tasting cola, and it is human nature. For example everyone in Britain would be all for supporting the Ukraine in the war against Russia, but if they had to pay a percentage of their income to fund it, support would drop off dramatically. Does that make them hypocrites?

They lost their authenticity but tapped into the massive market. They’re everywhere in Bharat.

KFC has not been able to maintain quality.

Popeye stores I visited recently are offering good stuff but they’re very new, let’s see if they go down KFC’s route or are able to maintain the quality.

A little overated imo. KFC and McDonalds are trash, here in the UK poor, low wage owners eat from such fast food outlets.

Fried chicken isnt hard to cook. I have sometimes asked in any decent restaurant and they happily made me some. The key is the quality of chicken, the fresher the better and of course the batter must be decent. KFC chicken is one of the lowest quality meats you'll find, same goes for most western food outlets.

Pakistan has so much quality fresh food, the animal is killed the morning and in your belly by the evening. Why people want to eat at rubbish overated fast food outlets is strange imo.

As for boycotts, its proven to help.

I see.

Yeah. I also find fast foods trashy. I try to eat clean nowadays.

Do you like your fish grilled, steamed or deep fried? Bhapa Ilish is besh bhalo, but cannot be a regular meal. I have stopped meat and fish and only have 10 boiled eggs for my protein. Once the health bug bites, the temptation for anything unhealthy just fades away.

People have different preferences when it comes to food, some enjoy KFC, others prefer homemade meals or local mom and pop restaurants.

However, it is surprising to see many here reacting so critically, as if Wasim Akram himself were denouncing those who occasionally indulge in pakoras and chai during the rain.

With the opening of an international branch in Pakistan, we should take the opportunity to celebrate it, and allow those who enjoy it to do so. There is no need to criticize Pakistanis who prefer their local fried chicken from small, family run establishments, as though they’ve never experienced anything else.

It’s disheartening to see some people continuously criticize every situation, even when there’s no real reason to do so. Let’s avoid unnecessary negativity.

These companies have food “scientists” that manipulate taste buds to get you addicted.
Rule of thumb avoid every Fast Food franchise, only exception is In-N-Out burger as they make it fresh.

While the economic opportunities are huge for such ventures as they bring about lot of modern jobs with great improvements in logistics, they create a huge health problem, and if Pakistan tax payers pay for it then they need to watch the ingredients.

The ingredients of American fastfood for same franchise and products is vastly different to ones in Europe, I have no love for Europe but Pakistan should implement such strictness on ingredients.

Absolutely but have you tried desi dishes? Fried bread is eaten every day for breakfast 😁

Interesting, as I eat mainly fresh food, fresh fruit, fresh meat etc, when I rarely visit a fast food outlet, I cannot taste the food and it makes me sick. I ask my family to bring me back fresh vegetables from Pakistan, even something as simple as garlic tastes 100 times better than it does from a supermarket here!

Not only veggies but I would even say utilise Pakistani claypots for cooking, they are considered to be of very rich soil.

It's even more sinister than that. Food that melts quickly in your mouth tricks the brain into thinking that you have eaten less calories than you actually have .
