Who will win?

The people and the media have done a good job of finding excuses for Canelo getting his backside whopped in several sparing sessions against GGG but the fact remains all boxer have a ceiling and vast majority will all have reached that ceiling before turning pro. The coach can make some technical adjustments but your fundementals will always remain the same. Canelo is in for a beating probably worse than what he encountered in sparing.

:)) So sparring and an actual fight are the same thing then, you have a very high IQ tell us more about boxing please :yk

Might be in the Minority but I think Canelo will win this. GGG has shown very weak defense and was getting touched up by both Brook and Jacobs. If he fights like that against Canelo I expect to GGG getting TKOed. My official prediction is Canelo winning by TKO in 11th round.

Another post that makes you look like a pretender than a actual boxing fan. Do you truly believe that a 21 year old Canelo was taking it easy against GGG? Or do you think in sparing boxers take it "easy". You know what taking it easy would mean? Punishment by the other man. Anyways according to Kellerman (First take) who was present during sparing Canelo was taking such brutal damage that GGG told his corner he will take it easy because he does't want to scar the Canelo.

Anyways I will let Saturday night prove that I am right and for the upteen time you are wrong

Canelo is young and fitter. He will raise the pace to a high level, using combinations when attacking GGG.

It wil be close but Canelo has a future and is Goldenboy's golden boy so any close fight going to the cards will see Canelo take it. GGG has to knock him out or get the ref to stop the fight, he cant win on points imo.

I totally agree that if it goes to a decision even if Canelo had won 4 or 5 rounds he will get the decision but I am certain it will not go the distance. In my opinion Canelo will show a lot of heart and put on a good show but at the end he will take so much punishment that eventually the fight will end in a TKO in favour of GGG. Also Canelo has put on a lot of weight and muscle which will effect his speed and even stamina in the later rounds. Realistically I don't see either boxer knocking the other out but then again you never know with power punchers.

p.s I am a huge Canelo fan but I don't see him being able to withstand a motIvated GGG who has waited for this particular showdown for well over two years.

What post are you talking about that's not what I said... and which times have I been wrong?
Anyhow, I merely pointed out how you advocated sparring on the level of an actual fight :yk2 it's clear who the pretender is here.

Canelo has agreed to fight for the IBF title, which means he can only rehydrate by 10lb as per fight day weigh in; you won't see him as big as he usually is in the ring.

ShahKhan007 If we are looking past the fact that Canelo was pretty green as an inexperienced rookie trying to learn from a world class fighter, does sparring in itself seriously account for much at all ? Joe Joyce KO'd Joshua in sparring to, many greats have been pummeled. What all fighters agree with is that sparring is sparring, a mock exam if you will; it is designed to hone your craft and test you but does not entirely simulate an actual fight, this is simple stuff which both GGG / Canelo would both agree with.

GGG may well triumph won't argue against that as its a close fight to call even though I favour Canelo, I"ll leave the petty point scoring to pretender fans with regards to the outcome as I just want to see a great fight. But were GGG to triumph it would be moronic to point to a sparring session from years ago as the reason for victory as you are suggesting

You can't be serious. How on earth does Floyd / Conor hype a completely distinct fight ? In fact they've milked the casual fan base dry and left them hung over to the point where there is no where near as much hype for GGG / Canelo compared to last year, this is the same reason why Oscar was upset when the glorified exhibition was announced.

Not only will boxing fans a lot of them had very little interest in MayMac will watch this fight but a lot of UFC and casual fans will also do the same some thanks to aforementioned fight which introduced a lot of UFC fans to the art of boxing.

I didn't think you would scoop so low to be afraid to even make a decisive pick. You created the thread so let hear it who will win the fight?

I've backed Canelo and voted for him in the poll as well but I'd be lying if I told you it's a decisive pick because we have two excellent fighters who'll be going at it and there is little to separate them when you look at the odds, GGG has nudged ahead but not by a lot; he's obviously the favourite. I honestly just want to see an amazing fight, am a big fan of both fighters.

Well, lets hope you're right and the fight does a 3.5 million PPV buy rate at the very least.

Hearts on GGG, Brain is on the younger, in the peak of his prime Canelo.

Can't believe am gonna be out till 5am to watch this tho, altho it is the biggest fight since Wlad/AJ.

At the very latest, ring walk will be at 4am but if things pick up on the undercard we could get a 3:30am start here in the UK

Hey, this is an off topic question but how come Canelo lost to Mayweather (they aren't the same weight class right?)?

Hey, this is an off topic question but how come Canelo lost to Mayweather (they aren't the same weight class right?)?

They fought at a catchweight of 152 lb, Canelo and both Floyd held a 154 lb world title but they agreed to fight at 152 given that Canelo is a big dude and Floyd wanted to neutralise that advantage to some extent. Anyhow at the catch weight of 152, all the light middle weight titles of 'the ring', wbc and wba at 154 lb were still on the line.

Canelo was just too out of his depth on fight night, his flat footed pressure style was tailor made for Floyd to exploit because it's just hard to set traps against a fighter who's a master of doing just that except he also happened to move exceptionally well when it came to his feet, upper body and shoulder rolls. But at the same time, Canelo was just 22/23 years of age and still growing as a performer at the top level despite brilliant wins over the likes of Moseley and Trout (was a close fight that some scored against Canelo). During that period however, many pundits and fans felt Canelo had the style to beat Floyd.

I understand their thinking because to trouble Floyd you need to apply pressure but Canelo is someone who comes forward looking to counter you while someone like Maidana cuts you off, roughs you up and mauls you relentlessly; he gave Floyd big big problems, I scored their first fight a draw.

GGG is the real life man of steel. Boy he can take a punch or what. GOAT.

Wow ! the fight has been scored a draw by the judges. I felt Canelo had done more than enough with his cleaner work and movement on the back foot which had GGG looking like a one dimensional headless chicken because he was made to miss so much but came on stronger in the 2nd half but it just wasn't enough for me.

I gave Triple G about 5 rounds in the fight, so much for that big talked up power; he did not hurt Canelo even remotely. Great fight anyhow, really enjoyed it.

Errr....This is utter and complete nonsense !!! A DRAW ?????? :sanga

118-110 Seriously.....Should be sacked this judge !!

Lol, Canelo was running away like a little girl. How was he supposed to land?

118-110?? That judge was either blind or drunk. This is what i hate about boxing.

GGG was relentless. I gave GGG at least 8 rounds.

GGG is one dimensional? Rubbish.

So did we see some fantastic 'counter punching' from Triple G today :yk2 you can't even understand his style properly, don't expect you to appreciate back foot movement which is used to neutralise your opponents offence, Jacobs exposed Triple G; Canelo absolutely embarrassed him; GGG looked like an amateur missing with all his shots and being countered / boxed all night long, his ears were boxed of tonight

GGG will murder him next fight. Canelo will be not be landing any of those surprise uppercuts or body shots, that's all that saved him this match. I believe he'll have him worked out.

How on earth was it a draw, triple G clearly got robbed,

Can't believe the 118-110 judge, Incredible

You don't counter a slug who's running away the whole match.

Joke of a post as usual. It's embarrassing how biased you are.

Absolutely! we saw that against Jacobs and he looked like an absolute amateur tonight, what is rubbish is the folk's lack of understanding of something called lateral movement and setting traps to counter against wild shots and the shots he did land, they were not clean or rolled / side-stepped. GGG the man of steel my foot unless you mean a damn punching bag! because they sure can absorb such punishment but am not sure if that's meant to win you fights.

This is why UFC fights are generally better.

Boxing is slowly descending into WWE 2.0.

GGG could not hurt Canelo and you're making up an excuse for that by claiming oh he was running away to hide the fact that he is out of his depth against fighters that are not static

Looked like a amateur? Cool story bro.

These casual fight fans must think Floyd is a runner to :)) they can't comprehend movement and think pressure wins you fights even if you fail to hurt your opponent and miss the target lmao

Canelo chin wasn't really tested by his power shots. GGG was mostly outworking him with jabs. There were a couple of flurries where he did have him shook but most of the fight Canelo did keep up his defence or just ran away. One thing is for certain, GGG definitely outworked him and pretty much everyone scored it that way, except you of course.

Yeah it is very cool bro, Canelo with his high in-ring IQ made GGG looked like an amateur which is why he failed to even remotely hurt him or hit the target often. He was punch drunk much like majority of his delusional fans.

Had him shook my foot, he barely hurt him. GGG was countered all night long with Canelo's upper cut and combination punching which was set up by his movement of his back foot, it made GGG look like a headless chicken especially in the first half because he missed the target as if he were drunk. Canelo slowed down a bit during the 2nd half and GGG had more success but Canelo finished stronger.

If you mean out-working = coming forward and missing with majority of your shots, yeah sure he did.

If GGG is such a god at cutting of the ring, why couldn't he catch the "runner" :yk2 He was made to respect Canelo's power and just was out of his depth vs his movement, his pressure was used against him. He looked like an idiot, was lucky to get the draw tonight

Bro how can you even say that ??? Canelo was absolutely struggling here.......

So basically, coming forward and taking a beating = you win the fight :))) the same fans are quick to point out that he has a granite chin, well you obviously must be watching him take bombs to make such a judgement so you don't even understand what you're watching or can't look beyond your fandom for the puncher who folk will naturally get behind because they don't appreciate fighters who are a lot more technically sound

Combination punches once every round doesn't win you rounds lol. Fatso was out of gas by the 6th.

Movement off the backfoot? Lol. When Canelo loads to combo or counter, it's so damn slow. Anyone can see it coming. GGG stayed because he didn't fear him at all. Walked right through those pillow hands.

I really have no idea what folk have been watching, all I can say is in the eyes of most casual fans GGG must have won specifically because he was coming forward but much of his offence was neutralised because Canelo was moving so well, I did not expect him to be so light on his feet; he basically built his plan around how Jacobs had performed and he had GGG beat for me as well.

Apart from two of the judges the majority of the fans, the commies and studio guests had ggg

This sort of thing ruins big fights

That's a tad harsh.

Many boxing experts are saying GGG won too.

You're spot on about Canelo's strategy but I think you're overstating the execution.

Headless chicken could barely land anything in the first 6, Canelo took some rounds off to pace himself much like Joshua did vs Wladmir and then finished stronger. Combination punches does more then enough to have you win the round unless GGG was seriously hurting Canelo which he did not at all.

So in that very last coupled of sentences you just prove that you're a casual fan, you first go onto suggest Canelo lacks speed which is just moronic, then you suggest that GGG 'walked through those pillow hands' which implies that he is in fact a punching bag :yk2 when you watch a fight through the lens of your fandom cant expect consistency from a casual

Well look that's my opinion so each to their own, and in the end it was a good fight and we got our money's worth am disappointed we didn't get a conclusive decision though. I don't expect much objectivity from the boxing media especially since a rematch is already being pencilled in long before this fight was booked.

Multiple combinations have to land in a round to win it when you're constantly getting out-jabbed relentlessly backed by 1-2s, not just one and he didn't even land that "one" every round. You're saying Canelo rolled off those shots or side-stepped. Rolled off? Yes. Side-stepped, no. He was merely moving his head and he did it well. Well enough to avoid majority of the shots? Hell, no.

Pretty embarrassing when the "punching bag" lands more punches than the puncher.

Brilliant fight. What people here are misunderstanding is that if Canelo tried to brawl, he'd have gotten dismantled so he played it smart. His pivoting, footwork and movement was immaculate. However, Gennady overall was more dangerous, landed more and was constantly dominating Canelo and not letting him counter attack. And oh my what a chin he's got, it was like he got fiercer with each shot to his face lmao.

Either Gennady was the winner or a draw. 118-110 was complete ** by the biased Mexican broad tho.

Canelo had the first three rounds and one of the last few, otherwise it was GGG for me. Canelos dodging had him in contention for the draw tho

There was no chance GGG was gonna win based off the scorecards when all the judges are bought out. But the boxing fans know who won this fight and that's all that matters.

Lennox Lewis, Shane Mosley, Antonio Tarvar, Terence Crawford, Erislandy Lara, Peter Quillin, and Micheal Conlan said the same.

It was a no-doubter for GGG.

I have no idea how this fatso is a middleweight. He comes in every fight at 180.

Because the weight you come in to a fight doesn't mean anything, only the weight you come into the official weigh in does.

Fighters dehydrate themselves on purpose for a few days before the weigh in to lose a majority of their water weight. Then re-hydrate before the fight. They can easily weigh 20+ pounds more on fight day than their weight on weigh in day.

Yeah GGG won the fight.

An argument could be made for Canelo as well, as he was the cleaner puncher, he got really good combos in, and was the better boxer technically throughout the fight.

But giving Canelo 10 rounds? Thats insane, no matter who won or didn't win.

Typical casual, those combinations are more then enough when headless chicken throws punches like a blind bat whilst missing the target due to the roll , side step and back foot movement casuals can't comprehend that before he was countered with power shots. His jab is useless when he can't use it to set up sustained offence, damage is what wins you rounds, boxing is not cricket where we can use stats like you are; ignorant people don't even know how flawed it is, that's why you're the same guy who was bigging up Conor for 'landing more shots' then Manny on Floyd as well lmao because a computer told you so which means he must have done really well

Casuals can't comprehend rehydration they are not advanced even though it's a simple concept for enthusiasts to understand, casuals are only limited enough to blindly advocate all their favourite fighters simply because they come forward.

Anyhow Canelo did not rehydrate as much as he normally does because to fight for the IBF title you can only add on an extra 10lb when weighed for a second time, he also wanted to retain his speed and be light on his feet which helped with all the movement we saw

In the end it was a close fight, I'd not have complained if either fighter won by a 2-3 point margin on the cards; there were many close rounds. It is just my opinion that Canelo edged GGG with his technically sound performance due his high in-ring IQ stemming from his counter punching style; his work a lot cleaner / more damaging (sure GGG got a granite chin but he still took bigger bombs which accounts for more then GGG's work with the Jab in my eyes which he was unable to follow up with enough or truly load up with power shots due to Canelo's movement). What did you make of the fight KingKhanWC

Yes we are all 'casual' except for our resident boxing expert shaz619 :p

Overall, respect to these two fighters. Most boxers these days are over hyped. These two are warriors. Looking forward to the rematch.

You have to expect that from the average fight fan who doesn't really understand how point scoring works. For most people, the fighter who is walking forwards is the aggressor, doesn't matter if his punches are being blocked and mostly landing on gloves while the guy going backwards is hitting the one walking in with clean counter shots.

Personally speaking I thought a draw was a fair result, Canelo won the earlier and later rounds, Golovkin dominated in the middle. It was a high class fight, Golovkin threw more punches, but Canelo probably got through with cleaner shots. One thing that was clear was that both these guys have iron jaws. They would have knocked out a lot of lesser fighters with the same punches in any other contest. Personally I thought it lived up to all the hype. That really was a superfight.

GGG is almost 36 years old now while Canelo is right in his peak at 27. GGG is on the decline, would the result be different if this was GGG in his prime?

That is exactly what I'm referring to, genius. And no, not every fighter comes in 20 pounds heavier the next day. Canelo drains himself at least 25 pounds whereas GGG fights at 165-170 at best. Pretty much every fight he weighs around at 165 a week before.

Except he did have sustained offence. It seems you only watched the rounds Canelo won.

What are you talking about?

Yes we are all 'casual' except for our resident boxing expert shaz619 :p

Overall, respect to these two fighters. Most boxers these days are over hyped. These two are warriors. Looking forward to the rematch.

I don't claim to be an expert, as I said that's my opinion. I scored the fight 115-113 for Canelo; if it went to GGG by 2-3 points I'd not have complained. What I have an issue with is casuals who'd in fact advocate the 118-110 score if it were in GGG's favour.

They don't understand rehydration or the significance of punch stats either it seems. Yeah totally agree, I respect GGG's pedigree because he's a lot more sound technically compared to the average brawler but applying pressure alone does not win the fight for me but that's what it appears to be for the average fight fan who can't tell the difference between shots which are landed clean and the ones which hit the arms/gloves or are rolled / slipped.

Ideally you want a conclusive finish so the draw sought of leaves a really big unfulfilled feeling but it's not an outcome which would have me in shock and spew things like day light robbery because it wasn't, the fight was very close; the only insult was one of the judges cards being way off the mark thanks to Oscar passing over the brown envelope to her; he gave her that same envelope prior to Floyd/Canelo as well and she scored that a fight a draw lol. It was a great fight overall, did you catch any of the under-card bouts ? Billy Joe Saunders (called out Khan during the post fight press conference) looked as good as he possibly could have and Anthony Yarde is a serious talent for his experience levels.

I'd love to see BJS with Canelo or GGG, he is criminally underrated; folk seem to advocate him as an opponent who'd get blasted out by both men within 6 rounds but they have no idea.

GGG is almost 36 years old now while Canelo is right in his peak at 27. GGG is on the decline, would the result be different if this was GGG in his prime?

Or maybe, when you actually get tested by elite opposition at 160lb you no longer look as invincible as you did against the likes off Kell Brook, Dominic Wade, Martin Murray and Daniel Geale.
