Why me?
This is a question the lone survivor from the Air India crash, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh sitting on seat 11A, must be thinking about over and over again.
With 240+ people losing their lives in the AI171 crash, the fact that Vishwash was able to walk away with what appear to be minor impact injuries is a modern-day miracle.
But maybe in his survival from this tragic event, apart from rightfully marvelling at our Creator's designs, there is a lesson for all of us.
The fact is that each of our life stories are full of "near misses".
From life-threatening events such as the time when you narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal car accident or when you almost got run over as a pedestrian, to scenarios in your professional lives when a last-minute check or change made by you saved your organization (and your employment!) from a potentially catastrophic disaster - each one of us had second chances in one shape or another.
"Earn it", were the last words to Pvt Ryan from his saviour in the 1998 War classic "Saving Private Ryan", and the same lesson should apply to us in all walks of life. Not only must we thank the Almighty for his largesse of a "second chance" and learn from our mistakes, but we must also understand and look to benefit personally from this opportunity and in the process, improve the lives of others around us. There is a reason why you have been given that second chance, "Earn it" and go on to do better things.
My sincerest condolences to all effected by the Air India tragedy and best wishes to Vishwash Kumar Ramesh for a healthy and fruitful life ahead.
