Why me?

This is a question the lone survivor from the Air India crash, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh sitting on seat 11A, must be thinking about over and over again.

With 240+ people losing their lives in the AI171 crash, the fact that Vishwash was able to walk away with what appear to be minor impact injuries is a modern-day miracle.

But maybe in his survival from this tragic event, apart from rightfully marvelling at our Creator's designs, there is a lesson for all of us.

The fact is that each of our life stories are full of "near misses".

From life-threatening events such as the time when you narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal car accident or when you almost got run over as a pedestrian, to scenarios in your professional lives when a last-minute check or change made by you saved your organization (and your employment!) from a potentially catastrophic disaster - each one of us had second chances in one shape or another.

"Earn it", were the last words to Pvt Ryan from his saviour in the 1998 War classic "Saving Private Ryan", and the same lesson should apply to us in all walks of life. Not only must we thank the Almighty for his largesse of a "second chance" and learn from our mistakes, but we must also understand and look to benefit personally from this opportunity and in the process, improve the lives of others around us. There is a reason why you have been given that second chance, "Earn it" and go on to do better things.

My sincerest condolences to all effected by the Air India tragedy and best wishes to Vishwash Kumar Ramesh for a healthy and fruitful life ahead.

If you are meant to live, you will live.

If you are meant to die, you will die.

I’ve seen multiple reports originating from Indian media claiming that this individual is being blamed for allegedly opening the emergency exit, which they say triggered the crash.

Not written for him to die then, Subhan Allah. Simple as that. May Allah guide him, and may this be the turning point for that inspiration. Ameen.

Away from his case, if we look at our own lives, we must also start thinking about the chances we have got and what we do with them.

I once almost got into a car crash. Road was icy and slippery. My car slipped and went to the other lane.

If there was a truck on the other lane, I could've been dead.

Allah (SWT) saved me. Alhamdulillah.

For this guy, survivor's guilt could be an issue.

He is supposedly a British citizen but speaks awful English with a terrible accent. There is something weird about this fellow.

I'll not surprised if seat 11A ticket price increase in the future .

Because Indians can't maintain dual citizenship. He most likely gave up Indian citizenship after he acquired British citizenship.

Zafar Masud has also milked the tragedy like a spring goat, and has used it to launch his career as a motivational speaker. Apparently, a voice told him prior to the crash that the plane will go down but he will survive. What crapola.

There are a lot of plot holes in the script of this 11A fellow. His explanation of how he survived seems straight out of Bollywood and doesn’t add up to the visuals that we have seen of the crash.

Moreover, in spite of being labeled a British citizen, he can’t speak a lick of English. I don’t buy the explanation that he may have acquired citizenship recently - even if he did, he would have spent a decent amount of time in the UK, and that would have reflected in his language.

The accent is not an issue, there are plethora of accents in the UK. The issue is the complete lack of fluency in his language.

He is as fluent as someone who has never stepped out of India, didn’t go to a good private school and has never worked or interacted properly with English-speaking people before.

I agree that his name matches that of the person who was supposedly on 11A, but there is no evidence that he is actually who he claims he is.

It is too early in all of this chaos for people to get to the bottom of this, but the truth will unfold soon.

For me, he seems to be a bystander who is exploiting the tragedy to scam Boeing for $.

At this point, everything is being taken at face value but when the time will come for Boeing to compensate the victims’ families, they will do their due diligence.

After all, India has a glowing reputation of being full of scammers with no moral conscience. It is not beyond some of them to exploit such tragedies to make quick bucks.

If it was a scam & he was a bystander, how would he be able to lay claim to seat 11A & the identity of the man sitting there, if you were walking past a crash site, how would you know which seat is next to the emergency exit? And you can’t really lie about your identity, you’re not pulling that off in this day and age.

There must be a CCTV footage of when he boarded the plane at Ahmedabad airport.

No passenger has survived from the crash, he could claim to be anyone and people will take it at face value this early on.

His explanation of how he survived simply doesn’t add up to the visuals of the crash.

He simply didn’t have enough time do all the of the stuff that he claimed that he did, and even if he did, he would have been caught up in the fire and not walk away with his white t-shirt looking good and with just a few minor abrasions.

Moreover, the plane crashed 32 seconds after takeoff, so it’s not like he knew for a considerable period of time that the plane might go down. He simply didn’t have the time to work out how he can exit the plane.

The media knows that his story doesn’t add up to what happened, but they are afraid to call him out yet because it is a very sensitive time. This is beside the point of him allegedly living in England for 20 years and yet he can’t speak half-decent English.

I agree that in this day and age, it is not possible to impersonate someone publicly, but it is too early for people to get to the bottom of it.

If his story is a fabrication - which I highly suspect it is - it will be confirmed once it is time for Boeing to compensate the families. Surely, their authorities will ask him questions that the media reports are afraid to ask right now.

If it is a fabrication then he will get found out very soon; but why would you lie like this, knowing you’re going to be exposed?

And his escape does defy reason, but miracles do happen as a consequence of Allah’s (swt) will.

Here is another video: :inti

More evidence that he is a scam.

In a matter of seconds, he was able to break through the emergency exit, walk out of the plan amidst the cloud of fire, smoke and toxins, knew where the exit was of the college and started using his phone (which also miraculously survived) and was walking casually.

This is besides the fact that he speaks broken English in spite of being in the UK for 20 years.

There is absolutely 0% chance that he was on the plane. I’m amazing that people are actually buying his story.

That was my thought straightaway but why the airline so quite on this if he is a fake?

It is too early for anyone to take action against him or probe properly. It is a very sensitive matter.

Air India is getting bashed all over the media and if they investigate this, they would get even more bashing for being insensitive.

This is also the reason why I feel media reporters are not asking him tough questions.

His scam will be exposed in a few months when unfortunately this become yet another forgotten tragedy or when it will be time for the Air India or Boeing to financially compensate the victims’ families.

What about his family in UK, they confirmed he spoke to them and there was suppose to be another brother on the plane who passed away.

Actually, where is this fella now? If he is not in UK right now then that should give us a big clue.

Was wondering the same, his brother died and he spoke to his family, so if he was fake why haven't they ousted him yet.

Lone Air India survivor carries coffin of brother killed in crash

The British man who was the sole survivor of last week's Air India plane crash has helped lay his brother to rest at a funeral in western India.

Vishwashkumar Ramesh's brother Ajay was also on the ill-fated flight but did not survive the tragedy.

A visibly upset Ramesh was one of the pall bearers who carried his brother's coffin to the crematorium in the town of Diu, his arm and face still covered in white bandages. He's spent most of the past five days in hospital.

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed seconds after taking off on Thursday from the western Indian city of Ahmedabad. At least 270 people were killed, most of them passengers.

Mr Ramesh's mother walked with the coffin in a blue sari along with other mourners, as he held it on his right shoulder.

Several people from the town - which lost 14 other people to the crash - came out for the funeral even as the rain lashed the procession.

No one is clear how Mr Ramesh managed to survive. He even tried to go back to the blazing plane to search for his brother, one of the first responders at the scene told the BBC.

In a new video that emerged earlier this week, ambulance driver Satinder Singh Sandhu is the man seen guiding Mr Ramesh to safety as he walks out of the crash site with flames and thick smoke billowing into the air behind him.

Mr Sandhu, a supervisor with the emergency ambulance services in Ahmedabad, says he had no idea who he was helping, or that Mr Ramesh had escaped from the plane. He only found out later that day on the news that the man was the sole survivor of the crash.

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, 40, was in seat 11A on the flight. His brother is reported to have been sitting a few seats away.

All other passengers and crew were killed and nearly 30 people also died on the ground after the plane hurtled down and crashed into a doctor's hostel.

But Mr Ramesh miraculously survived, managing to get out of the wreckage through an opening in the fuselage.

The new video shows Mr Sandhu, who's wearing a blue turban, walk up to Mr Ramesh and guide him to safety.

Mr Sandhu said he was having lunch with his colleagues when he first noticed a "massive fire with thick smoke rising into the sky".

"At first, we thought it might be a car accident or a gas cylinder blast. Soon, we learned it was a plane crash. I immediately instructed my team to bring an ambulance, and rushed to the site."

Satinder Singh Sandhu said he only realised who Mr Ramesh was when he saw the news later

Speaking to BBC Gujarati, Mr Sandhu said that he was just trying to do his job. In his decades-long career, he said he had encountered many challenging situations.

But what surprised him that day was how Mr Ramesh, after being rescued, kept trying to go back to the site of the crash.

"He had no idea what he was doing. He kept going in and out of the complex. We told him to stop, and dragged him away to an ambulance so that he could receive medical care," Mr Sandhu said.

"That's when he said to me that his relative was trapped inside and he wanted to go save him. We did not speak a word after that."

Mr Ramesh later told India's DD News that he was trying to go look for Ajay.

Sole 'survivor' is now carrying coffins, pretending his brother died in the crash. How much longer can he keep this elaborate act of deception going ? @Mamoon
