He is clearly not doing the job that he is there for but is this a temporary glitch or a deeper issue?

although....

So maybe compared to his teammates not doing that bad!

He's overrated and overhyped regular in all 3 formats now undeservedly needs more to be a genuine spinner or all rounder on his way to be oming another bits and pieces cricketer.

Please tell me who his replacement is.

ibtisham sheikh, umer khan, usama mir, hasan khan, mohammad asghar, zafar gohar

that's not "no one"

None of them are good enough yet apart from Zafar who doesn't get any chances. Umer Khan has done well but finger spinners generally thrive in the UAE anyway.

shadab khan isn't good enough for his spot either.................sooooo....

He is vice captain too...

Shadab is a decent young player, but there is no question that he has been hyped to the moon ever since his debut.

Shadab is a proper talent. Has earned his place in the team.

However, he needs to improve his craft and learn new things, simply because cricket world studies players like never before. If he doesn't, he will lose his place very fast.

They are figuring him out. Leg spinners are already vulnerable to attack.

Leg Spinners are boom or bust, either they get plenty of wickets or they go for plenty, they are not going to be economical like a pre 15 degree Ajmal and Hafeez.

Needs to go back to the drawing board with someone like Mushy. Don’t think he has a bowling brain tbh.

Fawad Ahmed vs Shadab Khan in PSL

Why is Shadab not able to spin the ball as much and why is he so much flatter?

Saeed Ajmal was saying that Shahdab is lacking confidence at themoment and that they are tryinh to build his confidence.

He said that a lack of wickets recently had affected Shadab and the way he has been bowling.

HBL PSL grew my confidence, says shining star Shadab Khan

Sharjah, 24 February 2019:

Barely two months after being noticed at the HBL PSL 2017, Shadab Khan made his international baptism with a man-of-the-match award against the ICC World T20 champions West Indies.

Then 18, Shadab returned with figures of 4-0-7-3 at Bridgetown and followed that up with four for 14 in his next shorter format match.

His confidence surprised the cricketing world. The unassuming lad from the small town of Kamar Mushani (meaning bank of a river) was as unknown as a village in the Mianwali District.

The district had produced two greats of Pakistan cricket – Imran Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Shadab would play cricket and, as a pass time, jump in the nearby canal with his childhood pals. He would surprise the village inhabitants with his leg-breaks and confident batting. He knew how to swim in troubled waters.

Shadab made his initial strides long before his HBL PSL debut for Islamabad United in the second edition in 2017. A year before, he had played for Pakistan in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh, finishing as joint-highest wicket-taker for his team with 11.

A few months later, he made his first-class debut for Pakistan ‘A’ on the tour of England, taking five wickets and scoring a valuable 48 in team’s win over Sri Lanka “A” in an unofficial Test.

But, his name propped up when made a match-turning 132 and had figures of four 84 and five 82 for Pakistan ‘A’ against Zimbabwe in October that year, that paved his way into the HBL PSL.

“PSL grew my confidence,” said Shadab. “Since I had played for Pakistan ‘A’, I found PSL easy and it allowed me to learn more and more. You rub shoulders with international and senior players and that’s an invaluable experience.

“HBL PSL provides a good platform to young players and my advice to all the players will be to work hard and make use of this golden opportunity.”

He took nine wickets in HBL PSL 2 and instantly came on selectors’ radar.

“The tour to the West Indies was great and captain Misbah encouraged me,” Shadab recalls.

He also made his Test debut on that tour. He took nine wickets in Islamabad’s title win in 2018.

Although Shadab managed to get just four wickets in Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2017 but it was his confidence against India that made headlines. He instantly convinced skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to take a review after he trapped Yuvraj Singh in front of the wicket.

“You grow in confidence by playing regularly,” said Shadab. “I was convinced that the ball had hit the pad first and then the bat, so I was pretty sure and Sarfaraz backed me in taking a review.”

England’s umpire Richard Kettleborough was unmoved, but on replay he had to change his decision, much to the amazement of the crowd and commentators.

Slowly and gradually, Shadab made an impact in the longer format as well, scoring three half centuries in as many Tests in the United Kingdom in 2018, one in a crunch situation against Ireland and two versus England.

Pakistan’s head coach Mickey Arthur believes Shadab can become a genuine all-rounder in future.

“His batting is going to get better and better, and he’s our best fielder. He’s in the game all the time and he’s just a lovely, lovely boy,” remarked Mickey last year.

“He has got everything to become a successful all-rounder.”

After being part of ICC Champions Trophy victory Shadab wants to win the World Cup for Pakistan.

“Its a dream to win the World Cup and I will do my best to contribute to team’s victory in England,” vowed Shadab, who has 47 ODI and 44 T20I wickets. His tally in five Tests is 12.

At times Shadab misses a jump in the canal as he can no more go to that place for the fear of too many people would gather to see him.

“I miss my friends, but I tell them that it’s like a movie. Once I achieve what I aim for then, this movie will finish.”

Conceded 21 runs in his first over today against Quetta Gladiaotrs.

Extremely overrated cricketer. A fringe Limited Overs player at best. Should not be in the playing XI in any format.

Very true
Nothing players with a ATG player attitude.
I think he considers himself as one of the greatest in the world. Jumps here and there for cameras

Like most of the talented young Pakistani cricket he has regressed after showing some signs of brilliance in the beginning.

What do you think who is currently best spinner in Pakistan?

In Tests, Yasir is still the best. However, he should not be picked outside Asia again. He is terrible on those wickets and has regressed very badly with the bat.

In Limited Overs, Zafar Gohar deserves more opportunities. He looks a more refined spinner than Shadab. Our quest to play all-rounders has made our spin attack very weak in ODIs and T20s. We need a specialist spinner who makes the team on bowling merit.

Considering Shadab's returns against the good teams, he does not deserve to be in the team purely for his bowling. He needs to fight with Imad and Nawaz for an all-rounder spot, and Imad is winning that battle for now.

Unfortunately, Shadab and Faheem are Mickey's blue-eyed boys. As long as he is the coach, they will continue to get an uninterrupted run.

You are spot on
Z gohar spin the ball more than anyone in Pakistan
I think Z gohar also can bat.
Because shadab is very medicore against spinners and his batting cost us match against Bangladesh in asia cup.
Gohar needs to work on his control he bowls too many short bowls

So many here come up with these ridiculous statements. Be it Hassan Ali or Shadab Khan. How on earth do you want them to act? Is it a certain way you act before you are considered an ATG?

Enough with the obsession with submissive attitude. Cricketers can express themselves regardless of their stature.

Will come good eventually very talented guy sometimes you have to persevere with a player it may not work everytime but if it does then he will give you 10 years minimum

Relax guys, he is just 20 years old and spinners take time to get into their groove and leg spin bowling while an attacking option is not an easy art.

He has done decently in his short career till now, his last two months have been worse in terms of his performances but that can be just him being out of form.

He might not be doing extraordinary things but gives an attacking option as a bowler who can bat as well. His MOM against SA after he hit few sixes was manifestation of that.

Leg spinners are really good to have in LOIs and I dont think anyone is that better than Shadab in leg spin in Pakistan at the moment that we can ignore Shadab's fielding and batting for the other leg spinners bowling ability alone.

If there is any leg spinner who on his leg spin ability alone can replace Shadab as a player, I would like to here the name.

The only decent all rounder options we have are Imad, Shadab, Fahaeem, Nawaz and Yamin, there is no other option so its better to groom what we have at hand. With our batting lineup we really need someone who can atleast bat a bit at no 8, it not only gives batting depth but also gives bit more liberty to top order.

Shadab can be rested for 1st two matches against Aus like others and someone like Zafar Gohar can be tried. Among young spinners Umer Khan has been exceptional with his game sense and setting up a batsman. Ibtisam has been decent as well.

Zafar and Ibtisam can both bat a bit as well.

Shadab can be a mainstay in ODIs but for Tests I would rather have Zafar Gohar instead. Zafar and Yasir would make an Excellent Test duo.

Zafar should definitely have played over Bilal Asif against Aus and NZ tests.

Nawaz is way better than him as an all rounder.

While I'm not saying Shadab is amazing, I cringe whenever somebody calls Nawaz an all rounder. The guy is a terrible bowler, and batsmen, his fielding is just okay.

People are forgetting his age and how much cricket he has played over the last 12 months.

6 plays out 6 dots at a crucial time in Eliminator 2!

The show-off does not deserve a spot in Pakistan's playing XI. Both Imad and Nawaz are far better options.

When you start concentrating more on your hair style and weird beard styles rather than your cricket, you are setting yourself up for failure. I think Hassan has learnt his lesson. Until, Shadab does the same, he should be kept out of the team.

He's been poor at times in the PSL. This is worrying to see specially with the World Cup on the horizon

9 ball duck comes to an end in Eliminator 2

After a stellar first year, Shadab's legspin has become easy to read and against top sides will not be a dependable matchwinning spinner.

I have no words to describe his limited overs "batting".

His attitude lately has been a bit off too. Seems to be all smiles and fun, which is great, but it's almost like the fire is missing. That being said, "it's a fun cricket," :yk2. So, hopefully this does not carry over to the world cup.

He is getting adverts and is in the cameras quite often, so he has served his purpose.

He is mainly in the team for show only, whatever little performances he produces are for bonus only.

I honestly think he will finish his career as an all time great for Pakistan.

I would prefer that he gets some rest and come back refreshed.

He was absolutely awful with the bat. Looked like someone who has not held a bat in his life:

9 innings
44 runs
Average 6.28
Strike rate 77.19

His bowling wasn't as effective as expected either:

Overs 47
Runs conceded 347
Wickets 11
Average 31.54
Economy rate 7.38

Should go into modelling and stop playing cricket.

Shadab of 2017 was better than the shadab of 2019. It happens when a player leave the hard work. In 2017 he wanted the regular place so he did the lot of hard work & once he get the regular tag he joined the ATGs track of Hafeez & Malik.

Shadab, a word of warning:

Cricket first.

The rest comes after that.

It's very disappointing that 4 editions of PSL been finished & we still failed to find a single genuine allrounder and a single match winning batsman.

The Shadab of 2017 was an unknown quantity.

Now opponents have done their homework on Shadab who has failed to evolve and develop his game. The selectors should stop picking him for every series and let him become more seasoned in domestic cricket.

Imad is not a PSL's product & no Imad is not a genuine allrounder. He is not a bowler who can throw 10 overs & not a batsman who can take team from 170 to 280.

sure he's no razzaq, kallis or even hafeez before chucking.

but he's the closest player we have to a genuine all rounder

he's economical and can pitch in with 40-60 odd scores.

Boss as I said this happens when a player leave the hard work. Being exposed is not a mistake, it does happen with every cricketer but the thing is how you overcome on weaknesses but as Saj said cricket first which shadab has forgotten.

Unfortunate to see him decline since 2017. His breakout year was tremendous but he definitely needs a spell out to refocus.

Bhai yehi to mera concern hei even after 4 PSL editions if still we have Imad in our wallet as best AR then what is the gain of PSL.

I have a bad feeling. That this guy has gone the umar akmal way. Like many other talents in Pakistan that looked a million bucks on debut. The fame seems to have got to him. He hardly looks serious in the field. It is just him having a good time with his mates who are in the other team.

Sportsmanship and friendship are good. But their has to be some desire to fight it out for your team.

His batting looked so casual in the end. No desire or hunger there. Zafar deserved a spot ahead of him.

I hope his is not going to be the familiar story of a young Pakistan cricketer starting with a bang before petering out into mediocrity.

Agreed. Needs to be dropped and go back to domestic cricket. I think he doesn’t know what his strengths are.

PSL is just for filtering players, the players who can handle pressure and perform against quality players. It cant produce players. Players are supposed to be produced in regular domestic cricket.

PSL is doing what it is supposed to do, your expectations are wrong.

I guess we are too fast to make player a star and to make him a nobody.

He is a 20 year old guy who obviously is struggling due to number of factors. Every sportsman experiences ups and down in the career. Age is with his side, he just needs to work hard with right attitude to come on top of this.

The guy is not even 21 yet, had test half centuries and wickets across the board. He is out of form, does that require so much flack?

It's Ok if his game needs evolving - which it sorely does.

His attitude on the field sucks though. He is laughing and joking when a playoff birth is on the line. Others rescued him.

Bats like a taliender in Limted overs unfortunately. His bowling form is worrying too. Picking Yasir Shah in the squad versus Aus is not going to help our spin stocks.
