Shaheen Shah Afridi to play for Fortune Barishal in BPL 2025

In a major development for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season, Pakistan's left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will be joining Fortune Barishal. The franchise confirmed the signing of the star pacer through an official announcement.

Shaheen, one of Pakistan’s leading fast bowlers for a long time, has been a crucial figure in the national team’s pace attack. Known for his speed and swing, the left-arm pacer has the ability to break partnerships with his deadly bowling. Shaheen had previously been rumored to play in the BPL, but injuries prevented his participation in past seasons, despite interest from teams like Comilla Victorians.

However, with Comilla not participating in this year’s BPL, Shaheen will now join the defending champions, Fortune Barishal, led by Tamim Iqbal. The team has already established a strong lineup with key players such as Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Rishad Hossain.

Fortune Barishal clinched the BPL title in the previous season by defeating Comilla Victorians in the final. Under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal, the team has once again formed a strong squad and is expected to give a tough competition for the title.

The BPL 2025 will kick off on December 30, with the final scheduled for February 7.

Fortune Barishal Squad: Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tanvir Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ripon Mondol, Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taijul Islam, Shohidul Islam, Ariful Islam, Kyle Mayers, Dawid Malan, Mohammad Nabi, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Ali, Jahandad Khan, Pathum Nissanka, James Fuller, Nandre Burger, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Pakistan Cricket is bloody joke. Shaheen can miss a high-profile test series to be "rested" for the CT, but will play in freaking T20 league while that series is going on?

Fans deserve to be outraged.

So that's mean Shaheen was dropped from the test squad ,not 'Rested' as suggested by PCB .

How can someone's who is rested but grants NOC from PCB to Play low level league .some strange things going in pakistan cricket .

Either there has been some miscommunication between PCB and the supreme leader, or they are dumb enough to think that this will not spark outrage among fans. Considering how much the PCB bends to social media pressure, it's highly likely that his NOC will get revoked.

Whatever the actual reason may be, it is a remarkably dumb decision to leave Shaheen out of the test squad.

And if he is not interested in playing the premier format then he should grow a pair and announce his retirement from that format.

Shaheen playing in low level league is insult of premier fast bowler of pakistan.

Maybe he is not interested to Play Test cricket but can't blame him for what PCB has done with him recently (First he removed from captaincy , than dropped from test squad at home in the middle of series ,than again rested/ dropped for important test series vs South Africa)

Weird feeling,

This guy may not be playing international cricket 3-4 years from now.

Said it as soon as the test squad was announced. Shaheen would pick any t20 league instead of playing FC or building up his body. Brainless Afridi.

This confirms that he is no longer interested in playing Test Cricket anymore.

I can see plenty of Pakistani pacers go this route. PCB really needs to think about increasing compensation for test matches to address this.

He and his father in law get so much admiration in that league , I don’t blame him for running off to Naagin league.

He has played 31 tests. That's an entire test career going by the last 30 year track record of Pakistani bowlers.

And what do players do after leaving test cricket eg: Ashwin just now? Play _ PL of course!

Nothing to see here.

What’s this fascination with playing BPL?

Degrading your own value at this age! Shaheen is more than capable of bagging big contracts in ILT20, MLS, the Hundred and BBL.

Why waste your own value?

Easy money? Maybe that's why.

Nice part-time gigs.
