1 - he has not played any as he took part in the BPL and likely needed a few weeks off after it finished.

2 - he played one 50 over game in the royal London cup.

3 - he has not played recently so cannot comment on his 50 over form.

4 - At domestic level, personally I dont think format matters. We have seen the likes of Shafiq play T20 during tournaments which shows that format is not a big deal when it comes to club level cricket.

5 - 1 game at the royal London cup.

Now I would like to say that all this is largely irrelevant. Afridi despite not playing 50 overs in a while, should still prove to be a class above the rest.

I am confident that he will be on the victorious side tomorrow with a solid performance, which will explain exactly why he is selected.

So, how does your football analogy hold true if he has no 50-over form to speak off?

Playing a T20 domestic game and playing a final are very different. Has Shafiq played a T20 final without playing a game for two years?

So he played one game in the Royal London Cup, but you seem to suggest in an earlier post he had played regularly. Why were you being disingenuous?

Your just going round in circles now. He has played regularly albeit not for HBL. Just watch tomorrow and you will see why he is playing.

When a player is still good enough to get into our international team, you can only imagine what he will do to domestic level players.

I have mentioned it so many times now, but you do not not seem to understand. I said he has played regular cricket this year. I also said during the HBL campaign this year he has been unavailable as he has just finished the BPL campaign and probably needed a rest. Dont see what is so hard to understand.

And yes if Nawaz currently gets into our national team then Afridi is certainly good enough. Much prefer Afridi even now than Nawaz who bats like a tailender and bowls like a part timer.

Have you been following the team that Afridi is gonna join since game 1? I haven't been watching them but if there was an under-performer in the team, then it wouldn't hurt benching him for Afridi now would it?

Why can't you state a number? How many matches has he played?

How many T20's has he played all year? At least you won't be afraid to state a number now.

What were Afridi stats in he his final matches that he still warrants a place? Why can't you back up what you claim?

If you want to prove something, go find the stats yourself. Afridi has played Asia Cup, World T20, T20 Blast, Royal London Cup and BPL this year. So like I said he's played regularly. If you want specific numbers go find them. They have nothing to do with the subject regardless.

Afridi is eligible to play for HBL. He will participate in the final. It's not a big deal. Get over it.

Well obviously it doesn't hurt the team if Afridi joins unless a performer gets left out. However, all domestic players can have is to win the domestic tournaments. If players like Afridi come along and snatch that opportunity for fun then clearly the domestic players would get hurt.

T20 Asia Cup - 4 matches
World T20 - 4 matches
T20 Blast - 12 matches
Royal London Cup - 1 match
BPL - 11 matches

So in 12 months he has played 31 T20s and 1 50 over game. So basically 2.5 T2Os every month?

11 of them in the substandard BPL.

He seems really active.

How would you know if a player was hurt? Some might get hurt, others might not. They may feel happy to have played a contribution in getting their team to the finals and have done their bit.

I personally don't know anyone who would happily sit out from the final. If by any chance the player is happy to sit out then he doesn't deserve to play for Pakistan.

Do u have Afridi phobia? Shahid bhai is a legend, superstar and a very patriotic person. He does not need to play any domestic games to prove himself.

I don't care if he fails to perform in the final, his presence is enough to inspire the team and especially the youngsters. For them its a dream playing with a legend.

Averages don't matter much. If everyone judged a player through it than Younis Khan is better than Richards.
Do u remember Afrid's match winning 7/12 against the West Indies which helped us win the match and series in their own backyard, winning overseas and especially outside Asia is no joke. His 6 wickets against Australia in the U.A.E, his heroic bowling in the 1997 finals in Australia and much much more.

Yeah, average means out of 18 years of his cricket, you can count on one hand wherever he performed.

Now, trust me, even if I put you in the Pakistan team for 18 years, you'll be able to perform that number of times, because the sample is SO LARGE.

Thus, what it means is he's pathetic.

i did say the same to many of my friends that i will outperform him when give chances like him...he was a low iq fella with mediocre performance......curse for our criket.

I can give you the answer. Because Afridi is not "selfish" like those other cricketers. He doesnt play for his stats. He is a match-winner. He also has a big heart.

It's one and the only Sahibzada Shahid Khan (The Lion Heart) Afridi!!

None of the greats with 300 plus can match him when it comes to playing for the team.

He came in with 68 needed of 18.3 overs. He just needed to play sensibly play the percentage shots and take his team home. But he wasn't here to play for his team he was here to make a statement that he can use as leverage to push his way back in to the side.

A 25 off 25 isn't going to do that, but a 40 off 25 would haven that's what he went for, to hell with the team.

So it was a classical Afridi performance. It was for Afridi first and last, the team never came in to it.

Indeed. Its one of the biggest myths that many Pakistan fans have swallowed that Afridi's kamikaze brand of eyes closed slogging is him being "selfless".

I can't think of a more selfish cricketer than one who refuse to adapt his game no matter how many times the coach or captain asks, regardless of match context, and repeatedly gifts the opposition his wicket when the situation calls for responsibility.

It isn't because he's a stupid individual - its that he knows his sponsors pay him to be the impulsive, untamed slogger he's marketed as ! Its pure self-interest. He never got all those endorsements and lucrative commercial deals because he's a responsible batsman who pinches the 1s/2s and sensibly rotates strike.
