Shahid Afridi on Shoaib Malik in his book:

"His lack of experience was his shortcoming; he was after all just a kid"

"A helluva cricketer, yes, but no leader"

Not sure what is to be gained by speaking ill of his colleagues.

I mean there is truth in this statement. We had just groomed Younis Khan for 2 years under Bob Woolmer. He was supposed to be the natural successor. Malik was still too young and paired with a first time head coach. It was a recipe for disaster. Once given the captaincy he should have been given longer but I think that stint as captain adversely hurt Malik's career and he never quite picked it up after that.

This is a worse thing to say than the legs shaking by Shoaib Akhtar.

Poor comments from Afridi. Shouldn't be throwing players under the bus like this .

His book may sell at least.

Do you even know the reason why Malik became the captain instead of YK?

Afridi and his pathetic statements show everything that is wrong in PAK cricket.

I mean why cant a 25 year old become the captain?

Why should he listen to so called seniors who dont even make the team on merit?!

Its fine for afridi to not listen to the head coach waqar and a senior to him but malik needed to listen to afridis advice

To be fair Malik isn't fit to be a captain even right now, putting his performances aside.

Malik was a good option for ODI and T20 captaincy and he should have been given more time, but the likes of Afridi, MoYo, Razzaq etc. were not happy to see a junior player bypassing them. There was no cohesion in the dressing room, and Malik had nowhere to hide after disastrous Asia Cup in Pakistan as well as the Sri Lanka series in 2008-2009.

The biggest blunder was making him Test captain. He was never a Test caliber player and that experiment was never going to end well. Of course, the captaincy circus from 2007 to 2011 where Malik, MoYo, Younis and Afridi all took turns as captain before it eventually landed in Misbah's lap would have been avoided had Younis not refused to take over after the 2007 World Cup, and his decision came as a shock because it was obvious since 2005-2006 that he was going to be Inzamam's successor.

I have been quite critical of his selfish decision in the past, but now I feel that perhaps he deserves some empathy. Woolmer was a father figure for him and he credits him for rejuvenating his career. His death probably devastated him more than any other player, and he didn't think he was in the right frame of mind to lead the team.

That of course doesn't change the fact that he displayed very poor leadership two years later when he eventually got over his grief and replaced Malik as captain. In spite of leading Pakistan to the World T20 title, he lost the dressing room within 9 months.

Have added actual quote from Afridi's book in post#1

Shoaib Malik isn't fit to make anything nowadays and has always been a overrated captain due to the multiple Sialkot Stallion victories in the Faysal Bank T20 Competition.

The 2 teams that he has captained at PSL(Karachi and Multan) have also suffered terribly under him and his attitude dosen't look that great as a captain for any kind of cricket.

Thats true, and his recent outings as a captain have showed us that hes an incompetent captain and his leadership qualities are totally over rated.

He is throwing them all under the bus... you don’t talk like that about people you worked with after you are not at the job. What can you possibly gain from it?

Even 16 yrs doesn't make comments like these .He is showing world picture this is Pakistan cricket for you.

Good to tell the truth eventually, whats the point of lying, its an autobiogrophy at the end of the day. Stop critisizing it.

Nobody asking him to lie.. just don’t run your mouth if you ain’t got anything positive to say.. what’s good bad mouthing people you have worked with for so many years and they are still playing for the national team? That’s just bad manners and being a bad human being!

Is there anything positive about Pak cricket in his book. All i have been hearing is him bashing his teammates.
Cute from him not mentioning when he tried to smell the ball or his disgraceful behavior to saif badar in PSL:wy
