Multan Sultans’ star all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been ruled out of the Abu Dhabi-leg of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 due to a back injury. The former Pakistan captain was training in Karachi for the upcoming HBL PSL 6 matches when he experienced pain in his lower back following which he was examined by a doctor who has advised him a complete rest.

Shahid, who appeared in Sultans’ four Karachi-leg matches, has been replaced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi who would be joining the Sultans squad in Abu Dhabi.

Shahid Afridi: “While training for the remainder of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6, I felt lower back pain and had to consult a doctor. Unfortunately I have been advised to rest and can no longer accompany my team Multan Sultans for the Abu Dhabi-leg.

“I am disappointed that I would be sitting out of the tournament, but my best wishes, support and prayers are with the team to take the trophy.”

Meanwhile, Islamabad United have roped in left-handed batsman Umar Amin and West Indies opener Brandon King. The latest additions mean they have now have a complete 20-player squad.

Peshawar Zalmi have added Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sameen Gul and Khalid Usman as reserve players in their squad.

Good riddance for MS. They already have two leg spinners and Afridi was only taking a spot from UQ. Not sure who this Asif guy is. Very average domestic stats.

Now then it's in abu dhabi every team will take any average spinner for psl sake lets hope they have prepared better t20 wickets.

Who is asif afridi?
Seems like another oldie :facepalm

Not the youngest (34 years old) but in my opinion a decent selection. Was one of the most impressive SLAs in National T20 Cup and endorsed his decent white ball pedigree in Pakistan Cup as well. Is a decent lower order bat too, so a good strategic pic in my opinion.

Normally I would question why a player is playing any format at the age of 45+. But Afridi is probably one of the most physically fit cricketers to ever play the game. He looks remarkable for his age which even officially is 45.

The only person more ageless than him is Tom Cruise.

Sad to hear. He just brings a star presence when he is playing these days. I always live in hope he will do something special as well. :))

Big loss for followers of the PSL.

Still capable of the occasional match-winning performance too.

Maybe they can digitally fill in Afridi’s absence in the games for TV audience with replaying a couple of first ball ducks , attempting a big six.

He should simply retire , there's no way the body is gonna hold up at 40 +

He should just retire from the game altogether. What is it with the likes of him and Shoaib Malik that they don't know their time is up. Both are now playing professional Cricket with players who are young enough to be their son's. Begaanni shaadi mein Abdullah deewana for goodness sake have some shame both of you.

How does Boom boom keep the motivation to play PSL in his mid 40s?

Remarkable!
