Mickey Arthur at a presser after KK beat LQ in PSL 3:
(Local players in PSL) "A lot of the local players have been leading the way so I'm excited. However, batting is something we need to keep working on and hopefully we'll find another gem somewhere who can get into the Pakistan side like Fakhar Zaman last year."
(Have you found the two players you were looking for) "Unfortunately no, not yet. Hussain Talat played well yesterday, though. In PSL 1, I think of Hasan Ali who really stepped up and came into our setup. PSL 2, I think of Shadab Khan and Fakhar Zaman. I haven't seen anybody just yet who has given me the joy I saw with those guys."
(Shahid Afridi's contribution) "I can only speak incredibly highly of the contribution Shahid Afridi is giving in the dressing room. He took that catch the other night and said 'you said you have to be able to field to get in the Pakistan team, well I can do it and I'm available'. He's been outstanding and he's been advising Imad, who has done a really good job. He's been outstanding, he's trained hard, he's done everything asked of him. His bowling has been fantastic, his fielding has been good and I know there's an innings somewhere in this competition where he will win a game for us. The experience with him has been extremely positive."
(Ravi Bopara's performance) "I was hard on Ravi last night in our debrief as I felt he let the game drift last night, he should have finished it in the 19th over. Today he came out with a bit of fire in his belly and went and played an innings we wanted. We wanted to get to 100 in 15 overs then get 50 off the last 5 and Ravi played exceptionally well to get us 10 runs more than that."
(Regarding players playing in leagues) "We're gonna look at every player individually. We've got a squad of 20 we're looking at for the World Cup and we'll cut that down to 15 and I've got a plan for each of those players. If time allows, then they can go to these leagues but if they're tired and need a break and we need to condition them, or work with them, then they'll stay. We'll judge every case on its merit. If I think it's a good cricketing experience, we'll send them. I'm only talking about the time period leading upto the World Cup because for us, that's the pinnacle."
(Criticism of Dubai pitches) "This is a very good cricketing wicket. It's a different wicket to what we normally have here in Dubai. What it does, is that it shows class. The good players play well on these wickets. Players that play well on flat wickets and against mediocre attacks are exposed on wickets that offer a little bit of pace and bounce. I'm very happy with the standard of the wicket."
(Amir's fitness) "I'm hoping that Mohammad Amir will be fit on the 1st. We're not going to risk him with the tournament and more cricket ahead. We had a bit of a scare with him yesterday but he woke up fine this morning. It was a wonderful opportunity to get Usman Shinwari into the competition."
(Usman Shinwari) "Shinwari was outstanding today. We've been building him up, he's worked incredibly hard in the past 4 months since the SL series to get himself to where he is now. We had him cleared by the medical committee and our support staff and the staff at the NCA have done a fantastic job with him. The way he bowled tonight and the performance he gave was very pleasing."
