Shahid Afridi's real age? [Solved: He was born in 1977]

As domestic cricket is ignored by the selectors, under 19 international cricket becomes very important. For players to get noticed they need to produce and if you play against players that are 3 yrs younger, you will get noticed. But its only a short term fix for most as when they play against the big boys they are shown up most of the time.

Relax guys....mustafa afridi (shahid afridiz younger brother) is my childhood friend. Mustafa just turned 32 last month. And shahid has always been 3 years older then him. So that makes him 35. He was born in 1977 according to Mustafa.

sometimes he bats like he hasn't been born yet!

he isn't the first and won't be the last to add a few years to his DOB. Waqar had a big bushy beard at supposedly 17 lol

And here comes captain generaliser! Thankyou! :kami

Erm! That's the truth. I have read lots of posts here from Pakistani PPers that they meet many people from Pakistan, who hide their age or fake their age. It's norm as I have heard from many PPers.

the video shows saleem Elahi as 19 maybe mix up with ages
im sure afridi is younger than him

LOL this is epic!

Pakistani men behave like women around the world. Love hiding their age. Don't know why!

 only the cricketers do it (or should I say used to do it), for obvious reasons (play in the U19, outperform younger guys, remain in the side for longer periods, etc, etc)

Don't generalize on the whole Pak male fraternity. :azhar

Yeh, remember Afridi wearing the number 77 shirt for a while

Is Boom Boom really 39 years old now? lmao seems a lot younger :afridi

what does it matter how old he is? he is a legend who can serve the country for many years to come if he so chooses

ICC building him up as a 32 year old is so funny.

So they build Afridi as a 21 year old in 1996, and expect everyone to forget?

They were building him up as a 16 year old and than bam the proof was in front of our eyes when they showed his age as not 16, but 21, was it an error or what?

Afridi was born in 74, making him 37 right now, not 32.

1974 will make him 41 not 37.

This thread is coming to us from the future. Everybody knows that he's only 16.

He looks so young for his age. Most Pakistani youngsters look older than him.

Money i tell you, its a sorcery that makes people look young. I mean look at Amir, Shahrukh, Akshay, Tom etc, do they look past or close to 50?

I am 35 years old and I remember Afridi coming in the testing center at Karachi for a paper when I was giving my 1st year exams. So +/- he is of the same age as mine on paper. His real age only his parents can tell! :)

My cousin who is born in 1975 recalls playing regularly against Afridi at Shadab Cricket Club in Karachi. According to him Afridi was the same age as his or the least a year younger. He says, Afridi used to study at Ibrahim Ali Bhai school and twice failed in his Matric exams. My cousin is sure Afridi has altered his age and is either 39 or 40.

That means he's at the age in accordance with the amount of balls it took him to reach his first century. The stars are aligned :afridi2

The 'he is 16' jokes are quite dated; give them a rest.

I reckon he's probably 37-38, which makes perfect sense as well. Anyhow, it doesn't matter, since he'll take the field in an ODI for the last time on Friday.

Don't know abt Afridi but Younis is on record saying that he is 4 years older than what he is listed as

Every Pathan/Afghan i see always look much older than their actual age, I always ask them if they change the date when they arrive in Canada and they always smile. This guy who claimed he was "18" use to come to my school in a car right after dropping his son at kindergarden

:))) :)))

it def is a desi habit

we played an intra-school soccer tournament once.

it was supposed to be under 16 and I remember a teammate loudly exclaiming upon seeing the opposition players:

'Their sons might be under 16 but they certainly arent'

they lodged a complain and he got suspended for a game:)))

watch aik din geo ke saath with afridi
he himself says hes 3 years older than his actual age
that means 1977 is his real dob

How old is boom boom now ? :yk :afridi I think he is immortal / time-less , he doesn't age

If OP was right, he should be 42 by now, which clearly seems untrue. Afridi can still run and hit massive shots.. not to mention he does not look 42 by any means.

I remember back in 6th grade during Islamic Studies class, it was the first day of school and to lighten things up and make the class fun the teacher was asking us kids what we'd want to get in Jannah. One girl said she wanted some Prada purse or bracelet. My best friend in the class said he wanted a Ferrari and I said I wanted infinite amount of KFC chicken leg pieces.

But I take that back, first I want to know the real age of Shahid Afridi, that will be my first wish in Jannah.

5 years? If this practice is still going then it means they're probably playing 23-24 year olds in U19 teams lol. What a sham.

he's retired, has nothing to do with Pak cricket anymore yet people continue to obsess over him - that's the magic of Afridi

During his innings at Derbyshire Afridi joked with Vince who asked him to run a double that he was 40 years old now, stump mic picked it up TalhaSyed :))

Shahid Afridi is forever young :)) the guy who interviewed him on winning the MOM at Derby was the same guy who interviewed him when he hit the 37 ball hundred in Kenya

His opening partner yesterday wasn't even born when Afridi hit the 37-ball hundred.

He just says these things to make others feel better about growing old.

We all know that Afridi is born in 2001 and will have his 16 birthday soon :afridi

Funny thing is Afridi's age was questioned quite ridiculously but others with more questionable age such as Saqlain and even more so Razzaq were hardly ever mentioned.

Still not over it, everyone knew his real age was 2-3 years more but for him to finally admit it... damn. It’s like the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle or the missing Malaysian airline plane finally being solved.

Man has aged beautifully though, Mash’Allah :afridi

Played age group cricket with afridi, and I know for a fact he was 20-21 when he made his debut.

Hasan Raza was 18 when he played his 1st test.

Hiding your age was a common thing back then. There was one guy who played u-19 for zone 2, who had 2 kids. His kids used to come to watch his u-19 game :)) btw he was a friend and we went to his wedding and knew he was at least 25.

Has anyone ever wondered why afridi did not play in the 2005 u-15 WC in England?

Bone testing had just started, and he would have fallen outside the range.

True Hero.

The guy still has model like looks at 42. He must tell us the secret

So are the nerds who keep the cricket records going to finally change the details of his 37-ball century?

It's not like his century is any less awesome or wasn't a record that stood for 17 years. It's still an insane feat for a guy batting for the first time, even if he was 19 or 21 or whatever.
