Shahnawaz Dhani isn't your typical bowler that will bowl yorkers and get you wickets by destroying stumps.

He is someone that likes to bowl short, and bowlers like him raly on good captaincy. An ODI captain needs to know how to place the right field for such a bowler. Having a deep fine leg or deep square leg is important especially as Dhani will create more chances there with his bowling.

If Dhani doesn't get a good captain that can place him the fielders or make strategies than I believe this bowler won't be able to live up to his potential in international cricket.

Maybe Dhani would have to take more charge and make his field placements if Babar isn't able to do so. But Babar needs to be the one with making strategies like how having a fielder at short making the bowler think that its gonna be a short delivery.

I realized this that when Dhani was bowling against Netherlands, he was bowling his short deliveries and the batsmen was just swinging his bat on it, yet the field placement towards deep fine and square was just so wrong.

I dont see Dhani being successful under the captaincy of Babar Azam if things continue like this. He will need a captain that can come with good field placements and strategies. Dhani was successful in PSL not only because of Rizwan, but because Andy Flower would be relaying msgs on the field aswell

Ok great. We should kick out Babar as a captain to accommodate dahani.

Excellent logic.:azhar2:misbah3:troll

His face reminds me of Shabbir Ahmed.

Looks good steady seamer but nothing eye catching

Hes a kind of bowler from which you have to extract a performance. Had he been with South Africa or Australia, they would had known how to utilize this guy.

Look at how Dhoni would utilize Kuldeep Yadav. Misbah with his pacers used to defend 250 and less scores quite successfully.

This guy has a lot of potential but isn;t gonna be utilize. If he doesnt break into international cricket by 2024, he will be a freelance T20 player. ANd he would be more effective that way by playing in better set ups

As good as he is, he is more of a gimmick right now instead of a proper bowler

Yes, we need light hearted humour and entertainment but we mustn’t go overboard with it the way Rizwan and his friends do.

But he is barely getting games to stake his claim.

That he only got a dead rubber even vs Netherlands tells everything. He's fighting for scraps, gets a game every few months if he's lucky.

We needed to give him proper chances.

I too am kinda worried about his focus though. I hope he dreams of having a long career for Pakistan rather than just making few headlines playing in leagues.

To the op: He actually has an amazing yorker in his armory. Watch him more.

He isn't unconventional. He is a very conventional (high quality) right arm fast bowler who just happens to extract steep bounce. Bit like Jofra Archer.

But your captain point stands and is very valid. They need to help him with fields.

Most of all though the guy needs to play. He will show what he's capable of but give him a proper chance.

His line and length and approach was extremely defensive in the last ODI. He was more concerned about being economical rather looking to take wickets.

While captain plays a big role but, to be a successful pacer you need to have your own cricketing intelligence and know your strengths and weaknesses. You cant let your career hang on the hope of getting a captain that sets plans and does everything for you.

Naseem was setting his own field and had his own plans aligned with obviously team plans in Netherlands series. So if there is a certain thing Dahani wants to do, he first needs to be confident and then share it with his captain.

Hes got two skills in his armory i-e steep bounce with away movement if it's there and a decent yorker , But again Ambrose made a career because of these attributes , Dhani needs to brave and intelligent if he wants to be successful with those attributes , having defensive captain not going to help him either because he himself not smart enough.

Why are you inpatient. He is barely 21-22. Let him be around the set up get trained by good physios and work for some scraps.

Some things are planed behind the scenes before the match as well. Plus a bowler doesn't have to rely on his captain all the time, needs to develop bowling intelligence himself as well. This is where Pak made a huge mistake by not appointing a head coach after wt20 who knows how to manage and prepare a team. Someone like Flower, Stuart Law, Steve Rhodes etc. Saqlain is good but should have been used as an assistant or spin bowling coach as he understands the spinners well. Plus Saqlain wasn't interested in the role himself either.

Dale Steyn is one of the best minds in cricket as far as fast bowling is concerned. He was a mentor to Rabada as well. Has been working recently with SRH. Recommended Nortje to SA's selectors. If Pak can afford him, should hire him ASAP as bowling coach. Don't think Tait is what Pak needs.

Given the nod today against India.

Huge opportunity for him against a very strong line-up.

Dahani is one of those players that looks happy to be at this level. I was worried after seeing his level sycophancy of the Ind players before the T20 WC. He is too talented to for this sycophancy

I don’t understand what the hype is about this guy? He’s a poor bowler. Even in the PSL he didn’t look that good. He is a rubbish bowler and has done nothing to prove otherwise.

Well he is the highest wicket taker in last 2 psl seasons combined. 1 more wicket than even Shaheen.

He has not been at his best recently because he has hardly played enough to build rhythm but he is quality. Let him play more and you will see.
Wasn't bad today btw.

He bowled OK but the wicket had a something and needed to attack the off stump more with a fuller length.

He bowled well today.
He doesnt have Naseem’s talent but has a lot of heart and absolutely no one should fault him today.

He is a crucial bowler for us in Australia, he didnt do too bad today,, as he saved us runs with his bowling. I believe that he can be a good option in death overs

Yes on totally flat wickets but looking to restrict scoring won't work against good players, as we know at this level it's the wickets that win matches. You can chase 50 of 18 if you have wickets in hand

Fuller bowl was easier here….see how our batters lost wickets. We didn’t challenge them enough with short balls or even back of length.

his batting actually put us back in the game.

the passion and energy is awesome

he didnt bowl that bad...some wides but rizwan's injury caused a few misses

i would rather. take him over hassan ali. atleast he offers something different

hassan ali is treated as a medium pacer

I am not talking about half volleys. You need to attack the off stump on wickets with something and this wicket had enough. Naseem showed what could be achieved

This guy's 'got it'. Similar build to Kumar and gets a lot of bounce. PSL unearthed a rough gem

Not gonna lie

I am a fairly grumpy person. I don’t like non serious, comedy cricketers like Dahani. However, today he bowled so well in such a high intensity game, and he batted brilliantly as well.

Well done Dahani. Keep going. Keep it up fella!

Oh boy

Shaheen
Naseem
Dahani
Rauf

These 4 bowlers for the World Cup in Australia

:aag

Excellent with both bat and ball today, surprised by it, just need to keep working hard and stop his goofing around.
