Doesn't have the best stats but what an innings he has just played. First time both 8 and 9 have scored centuries in the same innings. As we have seen with Shai Hope, stats aren't everything and some players are selected and persisted with if the selectors see something in them.

Unorthodox but seems to be effective.

Doesn't look the most competent behind the stumps though.

Excellent 50 in testing times - needs to stay there and get WI a 100+ lead

Gutsy 61 runs - could well be a match winning innings in the final analysis.

It looks like he's worked hard on his batting and made some adjustments in his technique.

Always useful to have a keeper who can score important runs - something which Pakistan hasn't had in a long time.

Not bad but I wonder why Shai Hope is not the keeper.

West Indies can play a specialist batsman by making Hope keeper.

Dowrich had a horror tour in 2017 but he's started this tour well showing grit with the bat.

WI have some depth in the keeping department after a long time - there's also Joshua Da Silva who had a good domestic season earlier this year and performed in the intrasquad warmup.

Joshua da Silva, the substitute wicketkeeper, was called on the field to keep wickets after regular keeper Shane Dowrich walked off the field on the third day of the third Test between England and West Indies due to injury.

Dowrich suffered an injury just after the lunch break while trying to gather a delivery from Shannon Gabriel behind the stumps.

The keeper failed to collect it cleanly as the ball hit his mouth and cut his upper lip. Initially, it was Shai Hope who donned the gloves before Da Silva took over as the substitute keeper.

It is allowed for a substitute to keep wickets, provided he doesn't bat, bowl or act as captain. According Rule 24.1.2 of MCC's Laws of Cricket, "A substitute shall not bowl or act as captain but may act as wicket-keeper only with the consent of the umpires." The law does not apply if a wicketkeeper violates the code of conduct.

Da Silva hadn't featured in a single international game for the West Indies before this one, and captain Jason Holder gave him a handshake to welcome him.

The 22-year-old Da Silva has played 16 first-class matches and 10 List A matches in his career. He scored a century in a warm-up game in England ahead of the ongoing Test series.

Dowrich has been replaced by a substitute wicketkeeper before. In the second Test between India and West Indies in Hyderabad, in October, 2018, Jahmar Hamilton replaced Dowrich after Dowrich was hit on the knee by a delivery from Gabriel.

In the Ranji Trophy, soon after the amended rules came into effect - substitutes previously weren't allowed to don the gloves - Unmukt Chand came on as a wicketkeeper against Hyderabad in the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, replacing Rishabh Pant.

West Indies wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich has retired from international cricket just 10 days after a surprise call-up to their one-day squad.

Dowrich, 32, was named in a 15-man squad for December's three-match ODI series against England on 20 November.

He had won only one ODI cap and last represented West Indies in a Test against New Zealand in 2020.

"We want to thank Shane for his contribution," said Cricket West Indies (CWI) director Miles Bascombe.

"He is a disciplined, hard-working cricketer who always gave his utmost in front and behind the stumps.

"We respect his decision to retire and appreciate it is not an easy one to make. We wish him all the best as he steps away from the international stage."

Dowrich made his sole ODI appearance in 2019, though did play 35 Tests for West Indies from 2015 to 2020. He hit 1,570 runs in Tests at an average of 29.07, with three centuries.

He had been called up following a strong 2023-24 campaign as captain of Comb C&C in the Super50 Cup.

CWI have confirmed they will not name a replacement for Dowrich for the series against England, which begins in Antigua on Sunday.

After the ODI series concludes, West Indies and England will meet in five T20 fixtures from 12-21 December.

Not many were expecting such a decision from him after he was names in the squad for the upcoming series.
