In past people used to watch cricket for Afridi but these days its Sharjeel for whom people watch cricket. As for as Sharjeel is playing people are watching. Yesterday though it was a dead rubber but my cousin and friends were on their t.vs till Sharjeel stayed there. My point is that Sharjeel is fastly becoming very popular among people and Many people would come to the ground when Pakistan next play in U.A.E just to see Sharjeel bat like they come to see Afridi.

Not to the that extent

He seems to be more similar to Abdul Razzaq when it comes to persona

give sharjeel the good looks of Afridi and he will surpass his popularity.

major factor will be that right now there are no such players available who can bat like that.

Hopefully it doesn't get to his head like it did to Afridi's...

he doesnt have the flowing locks and cheesy smile :afridi

sharjeel has a working brain from whatever i have seen of him in the limited number of representations for pakistan, afridi was a really dud cricketer, with the potential he had, he let it go to the garbage.

Lacks the charisma and marketability of Afridi - definitely has potential though to be an explosive opener.

I hope he doesn't turn into a bowler and then starts coming at 6 and then starts regressing. But for now he is doing good...

Hope he continues to improve because now the bowlers will target him as they know how important he is for Pakistan to get them a good start

exactly.once he becomes the main wicket, he will be the target for the opposition just like warner, gayle, mccullum, sehwag and sanath... Not mentioning gilly because if he fails they had hard - hitting batsmen till symonds...

:sa Afridi's popularity is in equal parts to his Good looks and Off field charisma as well. .Pretty much a B-Grade successor to Imran Khan. ! Wasim came pretty close (atleast in India), but he was way too great a player for people to be distracted by his looks :27:

Sharjeel is someone I look forward to watching bat .

I've followed the PAK batting innings in last 5 ODI's only to see how much he's scored. Became a fan seeing his batting VS NZ in 2016 T20WC..

Pak cricket has been needing a Superstar for long . .That is what drives the image of PAK cricket. ! And I don't beleive for a second that Amir is the one ..! Maybe the past bowlers set the bar way too high for him.. But Sharjeel has the potential. Hope he gets better. (and fails against us at ICC tourney's as is custom!:yk3) ..

Sharjeel doesnt have Afridis movie star good looks and the attention seeking personality of Afridi who always wanted to be in the spotlight. Sharjeel seems like a quiet unassuming type of guy that just goes about his business. He will be more like a Razzaq type of player.

Also Afridis popularity had a hugely detrimental effect on his career because of his BOOM BOOM nickname and the image of him as purely a six hitter and entertainer he used to go for stupid shots just to please his fanbase and live up to his fanbase. The Few times when Afridi knuckled down and played a normal innings he showed he was a skilled batsman he was actually really good at rotating the strike and running hard changing ones into twos but because that was boring he just succumbed to playing the entertainer. watch his innings in WT20 2009 SF and Final to show his potential to be a good ODI bat he could have average 35 at a strike rate of 100 and gone down as an ATG ODI all rounder.

Afridi's charisma is a different league. But let me put it this way.

When Afridi was around, I'd only watch Pak bat when he got in. Or when I felt like laughing at them trying to chase a target :) But I'm digressing.

My point is, in the last few years, there's been nothing compelling for me to watch in Pak playing cricket. Except for the few times I've seen Sharjeel bat.

That's ok as far as his performance is not altered. He seems to be only hitter in Pakistan cricket after Razzaq who considers himself as a pure batsmen rather than slogger. It was really impressive from him how he was handling spinners in yesterday's match other players like Afridi Awais zia Mukhtar Ahmad would have choosen to slog right from the very first ball of spinners.

So far whatever I have seen he could be our potential match winner for us and that would multiply his popularity.
